  1. Slide 1: I am going to tell you about the beautiful country of Italy. Italy is a very nice country that you should visit.
  2. Slide 2: Italy is located in the continent of Europe. It is divided into 20 provinces. In Italy there are also 2 independent states, the Vatican in Rome and the Republic of San Marino in Emilia Romagna (see red circles). Italy is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, and is shaped like a boot. The countries that border Italy are France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia.
  3. The two groups of mountains in italy are the alps and the appenines. The alps are shaped in a curve. The alps have tall and spikey points and ‘newer’; the appenines are ‘older’ and smoother. The appenines go along the peninsula in a stripe, the alps are an arch all along the northern borders with France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.
  4. The main lakes are lake Maggiore, lake Garda and lake Como. Lake maggiore is a part in Italy (Piedmont) and a part in Switzerland. Lake Como is both in Lombardy and Switzerland. Lake Garda is between Lombardy and Veneto. The four main rivers are river Po, Adige, Arno and Tevere. The river Po goes across the north of Italy from the western alps and drops in the Adriatic sea. The river Adige starts in the north-east alps and drops in the Adriatic sea. The Arno passes both florence and Pisa. The Tevere river passes within Rome.
  5. Slide 5: The first settlers in Italy were the Italics. The Roman Empire was a big empire based in Rome. The romans built lots of buildings. The coliseum in Rome is one of the famous buildings the romans built that you can still see today.

In 27 BC Octavian (called Augustus) becomes the first emperor of the Roman Empire. Beginning in the 1300s AD The Renaissance begins in Italian city-states such as Florence and Venice. In 1861 United italy is established, ending the Kingdom of the Borbons in the south and the Austrians in the North East. In 1915 AD Italy enters World War I on the side of the Allies. In 1940 AD joins forces with Hitler in World War II. In 1946 AD Italians vote to end the monarchy, and the country becomes a republic.

  9. Slide 6:The flag is called tricolor. The Italian flag is like a pizza, the green is basil, the white is mozzarella and the red is tomato sauce. They started using the tricolor when italy became a united country in 1861. two young revolutionarier brought in red and white from their towns (one was the colour of Bologna, red), and added green for hope….
  10. In Italy the language is Italian. In Italy they use the Latin alphabet. The Italian language comes from Latin which was spoken during the Roman republic and empire.
  11. Most Italian people enjoy pasta and pizza. Italy is famous throughout the world for its delicious food and wine. The many regions in Italy have each a wealth of many different traditional recipes, so Italian food is really amazing.
  12. Some popular places to go in Italy are Rome, Venice and Florence. Many other beautiful towns can be also visited nearby and all along the peninsula and the islands. A Holiday in italy would include site seeing, going to see the beautiful art in art galleries and visiting various local museums, but also boating, going to the beach, skiing and trekking from north to south!
  13. Most Italian people love football. They also enjoy cycling, and racing cars.
  14. Some of the famous super cars made in italy are the Ferrari, the Lamborgini and the Maserati. Italy is also famous for Alfa Romeo and Fiat. The Maserati that is on the slide is famous for the crown on the front.
  15. In Italy They start school at 6 years old and complete school at 18 years old. The university of Rome and Bologna are two of the oldest universities in the world. The university of Rome was founded by the catholic church in AD 1303.
