The goal of SIMVote2009 is to work with students and faculty members of individual high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools to develop and implement this program on campus, educating and empowering students to become more civically engaged. We will provide each participating schools “Campus Leaders” with training on how to successfully implement this program, as well as provide support to participating schools every step of the way. Through workshops on elections and democracy, interactive activities, which utilize the Arsalyn Program’s Democracy in Action curriculum, and introductory seminars, the students will engage with the issues that drive elections, the processes of holding elections and the issues that affect elections in our democracy.
My favorite part of this project is that it is intended to be flexible - each school can decide whether to incorporate SIMVote into many days of curriculum, just one day centered on a SIMElection, as a student club on campus, or in any form that fits each schools’ needs best. Here is a list of elements that have been previously incorporated into SIMVote:
SIMElection: we will provide personalized ballots designed to fit the needs of each school,
SIMRegistration Drives,
Student-led workshops taught to peers, to younger students, and to community groups,
Teacher-led workshops incorporated into classroom curriculum,
Guest speakers including local candidates and their staff to speak to issues driving elections,
A voting “field day” in which students campus-wide participate in various activities to promote civic engagement, and
Service projects: both student-led and teacher-led.

MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) are university-level courses that can be taken without enrolling in a full degree program, often at no cost. They provide opportunities for many students to study high-quality courses from prestigious universities through online videos and interaction. While MOOCs do not lead to formal qualifications, they allow independent study and are ideal for those seeking to supplement their skills. However, dropout rates tend to be high, with reasonable computer literacy needed. MOOCs are best suited for those wanting low-cost access to quality courses that can be combined with work or other study.

It also provides insight into students' learning styles to help schools design effective online courses and student services. Western Wyoming Community College uses the READI prior to students starting online classes through a demo course and introductory discussions. The READI flags struggling students and helps dispel myths about online learning in order to improve retention rates.

Providing online tutoring for todays college student is a growing challenge for student support services in higher education. Some institutions contract with an outside vendor to provide this service, while others create their own virtual tutoring programs. Many schools, however, find they do not have the resources, human or monetary, to attempt either option. This session will explore practical steps and challenges for setting up ones own virtual tutoring program and will include lessons learned. The session will also share the challenges and benefits drawn from community colleges that choose to participate in eTutoring.org, a collaborative program provided by the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium (CTDLC).

Online education allows learners to access courses anywhere through internet-connected devices. Known as massive open online courses (MOOCs), they break barriers of time and location for education. MOOCs benefit learners by spreading knowledge faster and allowing learning outside classrooms through flexible schedules with unlimited access to course materials. However, challenges include low completion rates due to lack of accountability and difficulty getting feedback without in-person interactions. Potential solutions involve using online discussion forums and offering incentives to encourage teacher feedback to improve completion rates and sense of community among online learners.

Confused?
• If college is ready to pay as whole, all members (Professors
and students will be using the platform freely)
• If complete college doesn’t want to integrate it, individual
professors can register and buy (becomes free for
corresponding students)
• Students only need to pay if they want to extend the
assistance after their college/professor have bought.
18. Pricing
• Individual Colleges : 15$ per semester per course
(a genuine price for such a vast expenditure and offerings. If
there are 50 courses, this will cover a lot)
• Individual Professors : 20$ per semester per course
(a bit more than 15$ as the college completely is not accepting)
• Individual Students : 2$ per semester for all courses
(an optimum price only if they want a premium version as the
number of students targeted are more in number and college
students have less budgets but they surely can spare 2$ per
semester for such an convenient option)
