Workshop: Setting the Foundations for an Iterative Course Evolution Model – A...Blackboard APAC
Elements of exemplary course design are well documented and readily accessible from various resources. Most notable are the Blackboard Exemplary Course Program (http://bit.ly/2jCURRd) and the Quality Matters Rubrics and Standards (http://bit.ly/2jdtwTG). While these are excellent resources that outlines the goals and standards to improve the learning experience of students in an online or blended course environment, workload associated with its deployment and management is difficult to evaluate.
With increasing strain on teaching and learning support teams within institutions, this exacerbates the challenge faced by instructors and academics of HOW to approach improving their courses in a scalable and manageable way.
This workshop will focus on facilitating participants in the development of a course evolution and management framework. The goal is to guide participants in establishing a unique set of foundations for course design, upon which iterative improvements can be planned and executed in a manageable manner. These can then be mapped against relevant Exemplary Course Design Rubric elements to create short-, mid-, and long-term milestones.

The document discusses a presentation about e-learning and workforce development in Virginia. It outlines how the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) is partnering with Education To Go (ed2go) to provide online non-credit courses statewide. Ed2go offers over 300 online courses and 130 career training programs. The partnership will help VCCS expand access to training and meet growing workforce demands.
The document describes an online examination system project created by 4th year computer science students. The proposed system aims to automate the exam process for a college and reduce costs and issues with the current manual system. It would allow instructors to create and upload exam questions online, and students to take timed exams via computer and immediately receive results. The system is intended to save time and resources compared to printing, distributing and grading physical exam papers. It also aims to increase security and reduce cheating opportunities during exams.
The study is an online, computer aided tool that was designed primarily for the conduct of online examination. The system
was created using PHP, a web based scripting language, and MySQ
L as the database software. The system focuses on
the automation of students' examinations; preparation, scheduling, checking and grading. A database is provided for the
storage of exam questions, answers to questions and students' records. The system allo
ws instructors to create an exam
by entering questions with its corresponding answers into the database. Instructors are provided with three options on the
type of exam; these include, True or False, Multiple Choice and Fill in the Blanks.
There are three
account types based on the intended users. One is the Administrator Account; this can be used to create
instructor accounts. It can also be used to delete or suspend other accounts based on activity status. The Instructor
Account allows teachers to create
student accounts and enroll the same. This account can be used also to create,
activate, edit, delete exams and monitor students' performances. The Student Account is for the officially enrolled students
where they can take exams and view scores even from
previous examinations.
This software allows instructors to keep track of students' performances from all exams since the results will be stored in a
database linked to an online system. While taking the online exam, students can choose the number of exa
m questions
that will be displayed on the screen at a given time.
A student can take the exam only on the specified date and time set by the instructor. Ideally, a particular exam should be
taken only once. In cases of retakes due to valid reasons and spe
cial exam considerations, the instructor is given the
option to administer the previously activated exam, edit or create a new set of questions.
One limitation though, this online system is not to be used to compute for the class performance for the final
grade since
this requires other components such as seat works, graded recitations, laboratory activities, etc. This only computes and
shows the scores from previous exams and the average.
This project involves developing a web-based online examination system that allows students to take customizable objective tests from any location via the internet. It would enable educational institutions to conduct tests, quizzes, and collect feedback without paper. Key features include allowing teachers to create and manage tests and questions, scheduling exams, providing results instantly upon completion, and generating performance analysis reports.

The document discusses EdifyOnline, a platform that helps institutions find and engage online teaching talent such as adjunct professors and teaching assistants. It highlights issues in the current adjunct placement process like high costs and inefficiency. EdifyOnline aims to address these issues by creating a shared marketplace for online teaching talent, standardizing processes, and providing tools to measure teaching effectiveness. The document provides an overview of EdifyOnline's solutions and value propositions to institutions. It also addresses frequently asked questions about how EdifyOnline screens candidates, monitors performance, and helps facilitators familiarize themselves with course content.
Feedback to students on their work and attainment is at the centre of successful learning in higher education. However many top rated universities find it hard to match high levels of student satisfaction with teaching and learning in general with levels of satisfaction in assessment and feedback. There are many factors which impact the quality of the feedback, and at UEA we are keen that the opportunities to enrich through digitisation are not constrained to the replication of previously paper based practices. For this reason we have initiated a project to harness all of Blackboardäó»s interactive tools to raise the quality of feedback. The overall aim of the project is to embed assessment and feedback in teaching and learning, so that feedback becomes a dialogic process and not a product in itself. This presentation is a report on our progress so far and looks at a range of interventions and their results, as we scale up to campus wide integration of Blackboard assessment and feedback tools. The evidence of impact comes from the academic community and students. We welcome interaction from fellow delegates during the presentation, as we discuss how Blackboard supports us to move forward with feedback.
Managing high quality second generation virtual programsAndrew Saint
This document provides an overview of managing high quality second generation virtual programs. It discusses key topics like the digital classroom model versus online classes, incorporating virtual learning, customizable curriculum, and teacher development. It also addresses operational considerations like funding, personnel, and technology systems. The goal is to help administrators understand best practices for running a successful virtual learning program.
This presentation discusses open educational resources (OER) and their benefits. OER are teaching and learning materials that can be freely used and modified. The presenter argues that adopting OER through entire degree programs (replacing all required textbooks with OER) can significantly improve affordability for students, increase student success rates, reinvigorate teaching methods, and achieve these benefits at scale across many students and institutions. The presentation cites research showing positive impacts of OER adoption on student outcomes like course completion rates and credits earned. It encourages moving beyond just swapping textbooks to fully leveraging the capabilities of OER, such as creating renewable assignments that students find valuable.
1. The document describes an online examination system that allows educational institutions to conduct exams online. It discusses the need for such a system to replace traditional paper-based exams and outlines some of the key features and advantages of the online approach.
2. The system would allow institutions to create tests, students to take exams remotely, and for answers to be automatically evaluated and results generated. This saves time for both institutions and students compared to traditional exams.
3. However, the document also notes some disadvantages, such as an inability to verify that the actual student is taking the exam. Overall, the proposed system aims to provide a more convenient and efficient way for institutions to conduct exams compared to manual paper-based processes.
This document provides an overview and progress update of an online tutoring system final year project. It describes the key features and functionality of the online tutoring system including providing flexible online academic support and unlimited access to tutoring. It outlines the basic flow diagram of the system and work that has been completed such as the user interface, lecture notes, login/signup, tests, results, and database. Remaining work is noted as sample test conduct and management of sample test results.
