has received marginal attention in the arena of user interfaces (UIs) for Recommender Systems (RSs). To our knowledge, a little
is known about the use of patterns in this specific class of applications, in spite of their increasing popularity, and no RS
specific interface pattern is available in existing pattern languages. We have performed a systematic analysis of 28 real-world RSs in
a variety of sectors, in order to: (i) discover occurrences of existing general (i.e., domain independent) UI patterns; (ii)
identify recurrent UI design solutions for RS specific features; (iii) elicit a set of new UI patterns for RS interfaces. The analysis
of patterns occurrences highlights the degree at which “good” UI design solutions are adopted in RSs for the different sectors. The
new patterns can be used by UI designers of RSs to improve the UX of their systems.

Owning the product by owning the user experience
Effective product ownership means owning the user’s experience (UX) of that product. This presentation provides a practical introduction to UX concepts and methods as adapted for Agile software development. Sample deliverables, activities and results will be drawn from the Avalon Media System project, a jointly developed open source system developed by Indiana University and Northwestern University. This was presented at Agile Indy 2014.

How well has this venerable set of the 10 Commandments for UX stood the test of time as the technology and user expectations changed?
We'll discuss the original purpose of the heuristics, how to apply them to a structured UX evaluation, if they've stood the test of time, and whether they will apply as technology continues to evolve.
We’ll also explore whether new heuristics should be developed to account for other, recent aspects of the modern interaction and technology landscape. To illustrate this we will introduce a proposed new set of heuristics for a specific and important part of our digital interactions – social media.
