It is a hard, brittle, silver-white transition metal that is commonly found in minerals like cobaltite and erythrite. Cobalt is used to make pigments, magnets, batteries, alloys, and as a component of vitamin B12. Exposure to high amounts can cause health effects like lung problems and heart issues.
