The Clock Shadow Building project in Milwaukee, Wisconsin achieved high levels of sustainability through its site planning and materials choices. It decreased energy consumption by 50% using salvaged wood sunscreens and maximizing natural daylight. Energy was further reduced with 27 geothermal wells installed below the building. Over 50% of building materials were salvaged, including the exterior siding, doors, and interior finishes. Rainwater was collected and stored on site to flush toilets, reducing potable water usage. These green features led to numerous awards and certifications for the mixed-use building completed in 2012.
