The “Greening of Aiken” project is a model, “deep energy retrofit” on the University of Vermont campus. It demonstrates that renovation can out-perform new construction, while meeting a tight budget. This project sets an example for low energy-consuming design and construction, responsible use of natural resources, and healthy learning and work environments.

This is a collection of housing projects in California (mostly) that are all electric (no natural gas use). By eliminating fossil fuels and using California's low carbon electricity their GHG emissions are very low.

Climate-responsive (passive) design is key to green buildings design and is based on the way a building moderates the climate for human good and well-being. Solar energy and wind energy can be effectively combined with climate-responsive design to produce electrical power by photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbines (WT). Today, urbanization and the increasingly dense populations of the world’s largest cities are pushing architects to reach for new heights in sustainable building skyscraper designs. But, there are a few green buildings in this world that capture the eye. This presentation provides a preview of Modern “eco-scrapers” that are bridging the gap between breathtaking building design and clean technological ingenuity .

Cost-effective, code-compliant and sustainable, mid-rise wood construction is gaining the attention of design professionals nationwide, who see it as a way to achieve higher density housing at lower cost—while reducing the carbon footprint of their projects. Yet, many familiar with wood construction for two- to four-story residential structures are not aware that the International Building Code (IBC) allows wood-frame construction for five stories and more in building occupancies that range from business and mercantile to multi-family, military, senior, student and affordable housing. This presentation reviews the benefits of multi-story wood construction, the code requirements and discusses the design techniques used in multi-story wood construction.

The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.
Org Design is a core skill to be mastered by management for any successful org change.
Org Topologies™ in its essence is a two-dimensional space with 16 distinctive boxes - atomic organizational archetypes. That space helps you to plot your current operating model by positioning individuals, departments, and teams on the map. This will give a profound understanding of the performance of your value-creating organizational ecosystem.

I am a Project and Engineering Leader with extensive experience as a Business Operations Leader, Technical Project Manager, Engineering Manager and Operations Experience for Domestic and International companies such as Electrolux, Carrier, and Deutz. I have developed new products using Stage Gate development/MS Project/JIRA, for the pro-duction of Medical Equipment, Large Commercial Refrigeration Systems, Appliances, HVAC, and Diesel engines.
My experience includes:
Managed customized engineered refrigeration system projects with high voltage power panels from quote to ship, coordinating actions between electrical engineering, mechanical design and application engineering, purchasing, production, test, quality assurance and field installation. Managed projects $25k to $1M per project; 4-8 per month. (Hussmann refrigeration)

ARCHITECT
Solomon Cordwell Buenz & Associates
COST
$33.6 million
At this 70-story condominium tower at Lake
Shore East, McHugh worked as a concrete
subcontractor with longtime building partner
Bovis Lend Lease to create the structure of
340 on the Park, which was briefly the second
tallest all residential high-rise in Chicago and
the second tallest in the United States.
The building continues McHugh’s tradition
of environmental innovation. It is the first
residential tower in Chicago to meet the
stringent certification of the U.S. Green
Building Council LEED Program, Leadership in
Energy and Design. Another innovation was to
create its reinforced concrete floors with speed
and accuracy, McHugh is using flying concrete
forms up to 70 feet, rarely seen on the Chicago
skyline. The building contains a two-and-a-half
story wintergarden at the 25th floor. The north
side of the building is contoured to minimize
interference with the views from Buckingham
Plaza next door. The lower level will be
connected by a public pedway with the Blue
Cross-Blue Shield Tower.
