  1. -Thank you for having me -The first part of the presentation will give brief overview of the CLIP project -The second will show how materials can be integrated in teaching -I’m going to move quickly, please stop me if you have questions. A lot of time reserved at the end for discussion. -So what is CLIP? -Creating sharable, open-source info lit tutorials -Funded from 2009-2011 by a Library Services and Technology Act grant -Planning members from WOU, CCC, OSU, WU -----Help to plan project, review materials -We welcome participation and feedback from all
  2. -Create tools that help many institutions to embed IL into class curriculum -----Address JBAC (joint boards articulation commission) mandate to embed IL. CLIP striving to produce tools that will help. -----Eliminate redundancy in resources across institutions -At the same time, striving to produce flexible materials that can be used in many circumstances -----Create materials that are relevant and usable -----Respond to your needs – tell us what you need! -Create a community that is interested and invested in the project. -----Not only is this a collection of materials produced by us, but the hope is that other educators will contribute to tutorial creation and content. -----By creating relevant materials and establishing the project’s value, hope to open avenues to continually support the project. Funding ends June 30, 2011 with no clear solution for staffing. Products and web presence will be hosted by WOU for at least the next 5 years.
  3. -Tutorials -----Address “big” common IL ideas, critical thinking skills -Quizzes -----Simple, 4-question, multiple choice quizzes -----Designed so that instructors can assess whether students have viewed and absorbed tutorial content -Discussion points ------Questions or points that an instructor can raise in class or online discussion to synthesize tutorial viewing -Guidance -----Use suggestions, descriptions, examples -----FAQ answers to some pedagogical questions, etc. -----Currently working on expanding content. Think about what you want for later in this presentation.
  4. -Analytics showing tutorial visits -----Users from all over the world -----Nearly 3,600 visits in past academic year -----1,645 last month (a little longer) -Highest state usage is in Oregon -----Map from 2009-2010 academic year usage -----Larger circles = higher usage -----Indicated the institutions
  5. -Priorities -Simple. Promote the project, form partnerships to integrate CLIP into curriculum, and maintain and create materials

  7. -By now you may think CLIP could be handy or useful -Here I’ll speak to some ways you can use the tutorials and additional content
  8. -We have mapped the up-to-date AA/OT IL outcomes to existing CLIP tutorials -----Allow CLIP users to easily find tools that address specific outcomes [CLICK ON GRAPHIC TO SHOW WEBSITE MAP] -----Future resources will also be mapped to the IL outcomes -----A scaffolded map is under development for Tutorials/outcomes spread across WR 115/121/122
  9. -Can link to tutorials on page on your website -----Many flash, video tutorials with audio, some website-style aids -----For accessibility purposes, all video tutorials have optional closed-captioning, and .doc text-only script also provided -----Source files provided, you can customize tutorials if you have Adobe Captivate 4 or 5. (All current tutorials were created with version 4) -Can provide access to them through course or subject guides (LibGuide template) -Can be embedded in LMS- Blackboard, Moodle, etc. -----Good way to incorporate quizzes and help instructors to embed tutorials into class assignments ----------Complement face-to-face library instruction, or stand alone [CLICK CLASS ASSIGNMENT GRAPHIC TO SHOW CHEMEKETA SYLLABUS]
  10. -CLIP workshops around virtually and around the state to help librarians and instructors effectively use CLIP materials -----Showcase new materials -----Show examples of how CLIP can be incorporated into classes -----Demonstrate how to edit and create your own tutorials -----Most future workshops and presentations will be virtual.
