The Clinton/Lewinsky impeachment scandal involved a sexual relationship between President Bill Clinton and White House intern Monica Lewinsky from 1995 to 1997. Linda Tripp, a co-worker of Lewinsky's, secretly recorded phone conversations with Lewinsky about the affair and turned the information over to Independent Counsel Ken Starr, who was already investigating Clinton. In 1998, Clinton denied having "sexual relations" with Lewinsky but later admitted to an "inappropriate relationship." He was impeached by the House for perjury and obstruction of justice but acquitted by the Senate. The scandal increased polarization between political parties.
