Challenger Space Shuttle Disasters
During the Challenger Space Shuttle Disaster, many professional responsibilities were neglected.
First, engineers did not hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public (Ethics Code II. 1.
a.). For example, although the ice inspection team found the launch situation to be of great concern,
the launch director authorized it anyway (Texas A M University 5). At this point, professional bodies
or public authorities should have been notified.
Second, it was every engineer s responsibility to contact relevant officials on the matter. They should
have cooperate with the proper authorities in furnishing such information [and provided] assistance as
may be required (Ethics Code II. 1. f.). Third, there is an ethics violation when the recommendation to
launch is passed along without engineer support and signature. According to the Ethics Code, in
section II. 2. B., Engineers shall not affix their signatures to any plans or documents dealing with
subject matter in which they lack competence, nor to any plan or document not prepared under their
direction and control. Thiokol s management ignored this code and misrepresented the dissent among
the qualified engineers (Texas A M University 5). On a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, after receiving no support with management on the subject, Boisjoly should have
approached the appropriate authorities with the matter. Such response would be warranted as the
matter concerned public safety, the upmost priority for engineers. Also, since Thiokol management
ended up disregarding the engineer s judgment, Boisjoly should have removed himself from the
project and ceased all work on it. Such response is unaffected by Boisjoly s age, job status, or personal
life. While those factors may be important to him, as an engineer, matters concerned with the public
safety, health, and welfare come

What Is My Personal Nursing Philosophy
Philosophy of Nursing
As a professional nurse, my personal philosophy of nursing is based on the core belief that all
individuals possess unique characteristics and needs. Each person is the product of their own personal
growth through learning and experience, resulting in individual and unique cultural, spiritual and
developmental dimensions.
Nursing is a dynamic, helping, healing and caring process. It employs the unique application of
knowledge and skills to improve the quality of life. Nursing is unique in its ability to provide a
comprehensive and compassionate view of the health needs of every patient. The professional nurse
promotes collaboration with the entire health care team and utilizes all available resources for the
benefit of the client. I believe that the following values should guide the practice of nursing and
provide the basis for the formulation of a philosophy of nursing;
When making decisions about an individual nurse s scope of practice, the first and foremost
considerations are the best interests of the patient, and the importance of promoting and maintaining
the highest quality of health services.
Nursing care should be delivered in a way that respects the uniqueness and dignity of each patient
regardless of culture, ethnicity or religion.
The therapeutic relationship between nurse and patient is fundamental to nursing practice, and is based
on trust, understanding, compassion, and support. It

The Brady Bunch During The Vietnam War
The Brady Bunch was just reflective to the direction that family standards was shifting towards, and
even though The Brady Bunch wasn t the perfect nuclear family they still did uphold a vision of an
almost impossibly perfect blended family that came together so seamlessly after a remarriage. While
the idea of remarriage was changing the idea of marriage so did the supreme court case Loving v.
Virginia in 1967 which lead to the legalization of interracial marriage. In some ways the case shifted
the public s perception of what marriage was expected to be. As a result of this you got new types of
entertainment like Guess who s coming to dinner? Showing an interracial couple that came out
ironically unplanned around the same time as the court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The census statistics during this period shows a distinct transition in family dynamics and the growth
of blended families across the nation. The transition to a broader definition of what marriage can be is
what arguably has led to societies social shift to a larger acceptance of marriage that maybe
historically didn t fit what the media portrayed as the ideal marriage; like blended families, interracial
marriage, and in recent years the shift to acceptance of homosexual marriage and relationships that
even in the 1960s was portrayed in cinema. The ideal shift of a perfectly imperfect television family
that obviously have face trials and tribulations but still provides a loving home for children and a
vessel for moral teachings is something that we still see today on television. Full House is arguably an
outcome of the progression from The Brady Bunch era that expanded the idea of what marriage and
family could be. Full house is a form of a blended family in a non traditional way. Instead of a
remarriage you have a widowed single father with three daughters and his two male best friends
helping raise them. Without previous shows like The Brady Bunch paving the way for non traditional
families, shows like Full House might have never been given the avenue to tell these stories of non
traditional families that were actively living in the

Leadership And Hofstede s Five Dimensions
Leadership and Hofstede s Five Dimensions
Jordan Luke
ORG300 Applying Leadership Principles
Colorado State University Global Campus
Sheila Landfairmueller
December 7, 2014 Leadership and Hofstede s Five Dimensions In my experience, working in a team
environment not only means working together collaboratively, but also means being sensitive to
cultural differences and outlooks within the team. Dr. Geert Hofstede, a Dutch social phycologist,
devised a way to recognize these cultural differences in five distinct dimensions (Hofstede s Cultural
Dimensions, n.d.). This essay will discuss these five dimensions and how they relate to leadership, as
well as presenting arguments on which combination of these dimensions makes the most ... Show

(Geert Hofstede, n.d.). A high score in this dimension represents a society that accepts an unequal
distribution of power, and those employees will accept their place in this hierarchical system more
readily than those societies with a low score (Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions, n.d.).
Related to leadership. Power Distance relates to leadership in how employees view their leadership
structure (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). In a high scoring PD culture, a clear social status of the leader is
very important, so that employees can show proper respect (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). Low Power
Distance scores indicate less tolerance of unequal distribution of power, and in turn employees will
not put as much stock in the social status of their leader, but how accessible that leader is for
collaboration (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010).
Individualism (IDV) Individualism (IDV) is the second dimension of the Hofstede model, and
represents whether the culture is of an individualist mindset, or collectivist mindset (Geert Hofstede,
n.d.). Cultures with a high score in Individualism demonstrate a lack of interpersonal connection with
each other, and a lack of sharing of responsibility beyond family and friends. (Geert Hofstede, n.d.).
The positive from an individualist mindset is the self reliance and enjoyment of individual challenges
that can contribute positively to the whole (Geert Hofstede, n.d.). Cultures

Howard Thurman Essay
Howard Thurman was born in Daytona, Florida (1899) into an overtly segregated and racially biased
community. Due to an absence of educational opportunities for African Americans in Daytona,
Thurman chose to attend a religiously affiliated high school in the Jacksonville area. As he progressed
in age, Thurman developed a unique style of nature mysticism through his veneration of
environmental phenomena. Additionally, Thurman was a prolific student who excelled at almost every
level of study. After he completed his education, Thurman held teaching positions at various colleges
and engaged in wide reaching lecture tours. During this early period in Thurman s career, he began to

By acknowledging each individual s status as a child of God, the damning effects of fear, deception,
and hatred can be eradicated by the powerful love of Christ. For Thurman, the true spirit of Christian
relationships rests in the ability to love one s enemies. Although this specific teaching is not new or
unique, its application to Christian relationships (especially between the disinherited and the
privileged ) is extremely pertinent. Enmity between two individuals or two groups of individuals
causes a physical and spiritual disunion that obstructs the individual s ability to experience the power
of Christ. Therefore, I must resolve to always demonstrate an attitude of love toward my enemies in
order to preserve the unity that is so vital to genuine spiritual experience. Ultimately, I found Howard
Thurman s theory on the disinherited to be both logically valid and extremely thought provoking. In
truth, I experienced a deeper engagement with Thurman s ideas than any other spiritual practitioner
that I have explored thus far this semester. This study has caused me to reflect on my own status as a
privileged individual, realize my need to identify with the disinherited, and remember to demonstrate

The Metropolitan Opera Monologue
After I watched Carmen, what impressed me the most is Ms.Garanča s performance and the music of
this opera. I think the music wonderfully shapes principal s personality and Ms.Garanča s performance
made Carmen more vivid. She performed this opera in The Metropolitan Opera in 2010. In the first
act, when Ms.Garanča sang L amour est un oiseau rebelle , I can tell Carmen s charm and uninhibited
personality. She knows that she is very attractive to men, so she is very confident about herself and
tries to draw all the men s attention. The melody of this aria is very stretchy and flowing and it
contains a strong temptation, gorgeous and elegant. What s more, In the keywords of L amour , the
chorus companion made it particularly outstanding, I think it carries a beauty and naturalness. Added
Ms.Garanča s performance, it fully shows Carmen s bold, passionate and full of mysterious charm of
the character. Also, in the same act, when Carmen tempted Don Jose, she sang another famous aria
Près des remparts de Séville , the melody is full of passion and it also contains a bit of wild, it further
shows carmen s characterization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Guest Star Featured Is Sara Picklesimer
Recently this week, we ve been discussing perception and how it impacts the way we communicate in
our daily lives. Interestingly enough, this episode of COMMPENDIUM hosted by Professor Stephen
Stifano focused on this subject and its attributes. Our guest star featured is Sara Picklesimer, a
University of Louisville graduate and now currently a doctoral student at the University of
Connecticut in the field of communication. She was born in Pinesville, Kentucky, and started off as a
biology major before realizing her passion was communication after taking her first public speaking
course. Despite being a shy and reserved individual, Ms. Picklesimer found that she actually enjoyed
and was surprisingly good at this field. She now teaches a gender and communication course here at
the University of Connecticut, which ties in gender through music and a variety of other aspects in
relation to communication. She gives us her expert lecture on two primary topics related to perception:
thin slicing and the impact and effect of gender on the ways in which we communicate.
Professor Stifano mentioned some of the foundations of perception that we have discussed in our
lecture, including selective attention and perceptual filters. The other aspects revealed in this podcast
are thin slicing and gender. All of these elements tie into each other in terms of communicating
effectively and making decisions, and what make up perception. We learned that perception is

Why The Sky Is Blue Or Why Humans Are The Dominant Species...
Have you ever wondered why the sky is blue or why humans are the dominant species of Earth? I
haven t either. I have noticed, however, that there is no logical reason for certain things like why
humans have opposable thumbs but lions don t or what is it about a colour that makes it your
favourite. There is no reason for certain things to be the way they are, but we accept them to be the
only way of life and even fight over it. One completely arbitrary thing that seems to be universal is the
idea of a year. What makes a certain point in the Earth s elliptical orbit the beginning and why can t
everybody agree on one day? What makes January first the first day of the year? Why can t the first
day be September twenty third or June twenty first? What makes January so special? In fact, different
cultures and religions have different days for when the year begins. For example, the Jews celebrate
New Years (or Rosh Hashanah) on the first of the month of Tishrei (which, this year, is on October
second). Why can t there be an agreed upon date for this absolutely arbitrary idea of the beginning of
the year. In addition, there isn t even an agreed upon number of days in a year. Most years, in the solar
calendar, have 365 days but every four years, there are 366 days. In the lunar calendar, there are 354
days. As well, who is to say that there are twelve months in a year and about 30 days in each. Why not
four months or 20 months? This idea is only one thing that nobody can find a

I have a grudge against my neighbor named John, and John has pushed the last of my buttons. Ive

The main problem that I have with John is that he blames me for everything bad or catastrophic that
has happened to the towns folk and the surrounding area. He has blamed me for theft, murder,

335 of the Civil Code.
The words used in paragraph (1) of Article 335 of the Civil Code, in enumerating the persons who
cannot adopt, are clear and unambiguous. When the New Civil Code was adopted, it changed the word
descendant, found in the Spanish Civil Code to which the New Civil Code was patterned, to children.
The children thus mentioned have a clearly defined meaning in law and do not include grandchildren.
In the present case, Roderick and Rommel Daoang, the grandchildren of Antero Agonoy and Amanda
Ramos Agonoy, cannot assail the adoption of Quirino Bonilla and Wilson Marcos by the Agonoys.
Therefore, the general rule is that only statutes with an ambiguous or doubtful meaning may be the
subjects of statutory construction.

The subject provision of the Local Government Code, Sec. 74 Paragraph (b) provides that No recall
shall take place within one year from the date of the official s assumption to office or one year
immediately preceding a regular local election . Hence, It is a rule in statutory construction that every

Cardiovascular Disease In Men
Although men had ruled the earth for years together, the male gender is highly susceptible so far heart
disease is concerned . More men are living with and dying of Coronary Heart Disesse (CHD) than
women and have more hospital discharges for Cardiovascular disease ( CVD ) and CHD. The
prevalence of CHD is higher in men within each age stratum until after 75 years of age, which may
contribute to the perception that heart disease is a man s disease.
The classic risk factors for CVD are the same in women and men, but there are gender differences in
the prevalence of risk factors. Dr Bernadine Healy first introduced the concept of the Yentl syndrome
in 1991, suggesting gender bias in the management of CHD.

Decreased sexual activity and function are common in patients with CVD and are often interrelated to
anxiety and depression. The Stockholm Heart Epidemiology Programme (SHEEP) study of post MI

is reasonable for patients who can exercise ≥3 to 5 METS without angina, excessive dyspnea,
ischemic ST segment changes, cyanosis, hypotension, or arrhythmia (Class IIa; Level of Evidence C).
In 2005, the Princeton Conference suggested that post MI patients who had undergone successful

Research Paper On World Hunger
The Oxford Dictionary defines hunger as a feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack of food,
coupled with the desire to eat 1. World hunger, however, takes this definition and brings it to a global
scale. Internationally, there is an estimated 850 million people that don t have enough food to lead a
healthy lifestyle. While this number has gone down by 100 million in the last decade2, it is still the
worlds leading health risk and the poor nutrition that comes with it is still the cause of death for nearly
3.1 million children under the age of 5 each year3. Thankfully, there are organisations that work to end
world hunger. However, this leads me to my focus question
Is there enough support and awareness to stop world hunger and prevent the undernourishment of
children?
My aim was to find out whether organisations that work towards ending world hunger and the
undernourishment of children have enough support and awareness to reach their goals. My primary
resource is a survey that was conducted in my community. My secondary resource include the World
Vision official website, the United Nations World Food Program website, and several other websites.

British Petroleum s External and Internal Environments

British Petroleum, BP, began as the Anglo Persian Oil Company in the beginning of the 1900 s. The

Usefulness Of The Concept Of Their Current World Essay
Usefulness of the concept to their current world
It encourages the productivity of an organization as employees are hired based on their skills and
knowledge not because of favoritisms or luck. It gives way to division of labor and encourages
specialization. It brings orderliness at work places as there are procedural devices in the work place
and rules governing the behavior of individuals in each position in the structure. It leads to
responsibility, charity, predictability, neutrality and consistency. It offers identity and security to the

The Development of Characters in Hermann Hesse s...
The characters in a novel can make or break a story. In fact, some of the plot details, symbols, or
themes will appear confusing or thoughtless solely if the characters are not properly worked into the
novel. However, characters, when well thought out, can also enhance a work of literature, pushing it
beyond the realm of generic plots and simple, noncomplex themes and symbols. In the novel
Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse, the development of Characters such as Siddhartha, Govinda, and
Vasudeva help the reader to better understand the central message that the author is trying to portray.
At the beginning of the story, two major characters are introduced: Siddhartha and Govinda. Govinda
constantly follows Siddhartha and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This situation enhances the theme of light and darkness present in the novel. As Govinda is portrayed
as a shadow, at this point in the story he is only a by product of the light of enlightenment that
Siddhartha is metaphorically facing. This theme is communicated largely through these two
characters. If it was communicated in any other way, as through imagery, for example, the story would
not have been as complex.
Another theme in the novel that is communicated through the use of characterization is the theme of
sleep and meditation. The protagonist Siddhartha often uses either sleep or deep thought to forget
something that has happened in his pas life. Siddhartha is an extremely dynamic character.
Throughout the novel he moves form a rich lifestyle to a poor deeply religious one, back to a rich one,
and finally he pursues a poor lifestyle once again at the end of the book. Siddhartha is indecisive in
this whole process and in order to forget each one of his past lives he either uses sleep or deep
meditation. When he leaves his wife and child, he walks to a river and falls into a deep sleep. He had
dies and a new Siddhartha had awakened from his sleep (Hesse 100). In Siddhartha, sleep and
mediation even has the power to transform someone. The fact that this is illustrated through the
character of Siddhartha sperarates this novel from other works of literature.

different, and in a very good, yet odd way. Nobody has really seen anything like what he has
envisioned and brought to the table. Not only is he extremely unique, but he is also very relatable to
anyone who has ever felt like an outsider or that they were weird or even rejected by the world. In this
way, his audience can really connect with his films, even though they are out of this world
imaginative. Honestly, Burton is my all time favorite director, and for the same reasons as anyone else,
I can identify with his art. One person s craziness is another person s reality he has said. Not all of his
work is mind blowing or even amazing, but you can t deny that when you watch one of his films you
feel just a little bit transported to another world. He has transformed modern cinema with his
Burtonesque style and has also inspired many other directors, actors, artists, films, and shows. He s
also given actors dozens of opportunities to start up and expand their careers. Maybe his films aren t
everybody s cup of tea , but there s just no denying his glittering talent. It is inspiring to see someone
come from such a rough beginning to come out on top, giving hope to many. Tim Burton has truly left
his stamp on the world of film, as I believe to be one of history s best directors, and changed the world

HBS Case Study 2: Costco Wholesale Corporation Financial Statement Analysis (A) Lee Hathaway
MMS 185: Managerial Finance Professor Veraldi September 27, 2007 It is important for stockholders
to continuously re evaluate their investments. Although some investors do this more frequently and
thoroughly than others, the majority of shareholders do so at least once each year. Therefore, Torres
desire to update her analysis in order to determine whether Costco was still operating efficiently

industry s leading competitors and there seems to be no reason for Torres to sell her shares as long as

As a percentage of net sales, Costco s operating income rose from 2.70% in 1997 to 2.91% in 2001.
This is a positive factor, meaning that the firm became more efficient. Another interesting trend which
demonstrates growth is the rise in interest income and other expenses from 0.07% of sales in 1997 to
0.13% in 2001 on the income sheet. Typically, this value fluctuates each year with the amount of cash
a company keeps on hand. Costco s increase suggests that the company either increased its amount of
short term deposit investments held, switched its funds to money market funds, savings accounts, or
CDs with higher yielding interest rates, or their existing funds experienced a growth in interest rates.
Moving onto the income statement portion of the common size financial statements, an increase in
cash and equivalents (3.20% of total assets in 1997 to 5.97% in 2001) and receivables (2.69% of total
assets in 1997 to 3.22% in 2001) coupled with a decrease in inventory signify Costco s improving
efficiency over this five year period. It is important to mention two points. First, the decrease in
inventory as a percentage of total assets from 30.8% in 1997 to 27.14% in 2001 signifies an increase
in the turnover rate, perhaps due to

Bernard Roth s Rhetorical Analysis Of Reasons Are Bull Shit
The Rhetorical Analysis of Reasons Are Bull Shit
With the use of the Aristotle Rhetorical Triangle, Bernard Roth proves that reasons are bull shit. Now,
what is the rhetorical triangle exactly? The rhetorical triangle is made up of three different parts of
persuasion. The first is ethos, which is also usually known as the author s credibility. The second is
pathos, where the author uses emotion or language to grab your attention. And finally is logos,
therefore using logic to persuade. In the chapter, Reasons are Bull Shit of the book The Achievement
Habit, Bernard Roth proves that reasons are bull shit by using ethos, pathos, and logos of the Aristotle
Rhetorical Triangle. Some say Bernard Roth doesn t have ethos for his book The Achievement ...

education than you because maybe you might actually when a thousand dollars doing a survey or

seems to be the early 2000s, this is for Americans, this company and the world things drastically
changed due to unethical behavior from some of the company s top leaders within the organization.
What will be revealed in this case study below, many people would not believe that all this happen
over the course of a short time and how far people will go to gain what they believe is success at any
cost.
Introduction
In this case study we were asked to draw upon deontological ethics, and briefly discuss how Adelphia
Communications executives violated the trust of the company s shareholders and the trust of that of
the larger public. Throughout this paper I will highlight two key ethical problems that were raised by
the Adelphia Communications case. Utilizing Immanuel Kant s Categorical Imperative, deontological
ethics or so duty rights will be shared. Then I will apply the deontological framework of business
ethics to the two key ethical problems that will be identified. Finally Kant s Categorical Imperative
will be applied to those two ethical problems as well.

The Threat Of The War Against Terrorism
As the world evolves new threats appear and some stand by what they believe in. These beliefs cause
harm to other people. An example this would be, big military forces trying to prove a point by killing
innocent civilian lives. This is where the Counter Terrorism forces comes into play. Such as the United
States Seal team six, United kingdom S.A.S and Kopassus Gultor 81. They seek out those who do
wrong and bring them to justice. The only problem is that they need to have a stronger force to be able
to do their job more effectively and perform well in urban areas. By having a larger force, Many
countries can work together in helping the innocent lives of people by getting information of these
terror acts. Most recently in Brussel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would help to find terrorists and prevent any atrocities from happening and it ll most definitely

faces is terrorism. Polls from December 2 6 2015 show that terrorism was 16% of Americans biggest
concerns (Cook). This goes to show that terrorism is a problem not only for the American people but
the entire world. Countries can start by improving their homeland security. After the United states was
attacked on September 11, they did major adjustments to Homeland Security, such as improving
screening for passenger bags at airports. Advanced passenger information and name record data to be
able to find high value targets if they ever try board on any plane. Many things the United States have
improved on the European countries should improve on too, especially with many terrorists making
fake passports and using those to pass any airport. Also with German Chancellor Angela Merkel
allowing refugees to come to Europe, it should be a necessity to have strict policies on passports. With
Germany being the dominant country bringing refugees, mostly from Syria. That is why most
countries who accept refugees should enforce their passports policy and give the refugees special
identification, this should increase the security and address any issues countries

1. One of the factors that I considered when looking into dental schools was the ability to establish a
strong foundational knowledge that will allow students to excel in their respective fields. When
looking at Boston University, I found that by offering a rigorous course load, GSDM was able to
produce some of the most renown dentists in the country. Secondly, the combination of their amazing
professors and a state of the art clinic which allow students to practice their skills on patients was one
of the most enticing factors that drew me to this university. Thirdly, the CAGS graduate study program

reminded by my college professors that I teach as I learn, as in I always strive to help those around me

working with classmates is even more important. Using my interpersonal skills, I believe that I would
be able to connect students to work together. Finally, I can bring a sense of humor to the classroom. I
know that dental school is a place of focus, but I believe that having a balance of humor and focus is
crucial to prevent students from being stressed. During stressful times, many people burn out, but
when humor is incorporated within a classroom environment, not only will the students benefit, but
the professors will benefit as well. I would contribute to the school by integrating myself within one of

Dbq Jury System
There are certain aspects of the United States government that seem to be at the core of ensuring
democracy for all citizens. These ideas include representative leaders like the President, or the
bicameral legislature. Similarly, the jury system is another structure of the government that many
people hold close to their hearts. Although it seems like the ultimate way that the citizens can self
govern, is the jury system really the best way to reach a verdict in civil and/or criminal cases? The
bottom line is that the jury system is an outdated structure. Specifically, bench trials, or trials decided
only by a judge, are much more effective than jury trials because judges are more educated, less
susceptible to popular influence, and are not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In trials like that of Casey Anthony, the mother arrested and charged with killing her two year old
daughter Caylee, the popularity and widespread coverage of the case definitely influenced how
citizens across the country believed Anthony should be sentenced (Document D). Anyone who saw
one news story on the case that was then called to the jury probably already had formed their opinion
on the status of Anthony s innocence, without reviewing any court evidence. Consequently, their
predisposed opinion, similar to the cats on the jury in Cartoon 3 of Document E, could have resulted
in a weighted outcome. Also, the fear of a wrong decision made by the jury could have motivated a
juror to vote solely for the outcome most popularly desirable. For example, Document D quotes Janine
Gonzalez, a nearby member of Anthony s community, as saying She (Casey Anthony) better move and
move to a faraway place. Even though, in the end, Anthony was declared innocent, the fear of her life
as well as the possible violence that could occur after the verdict could have been enough to sway a
juror to convict her just to satisfy a popular

Arguments Against Teen Activism
Teen activism is when teens see problems in their communities or in the world and they take actions to
try to fix those problems. Thanks to the teen activists of the world, problems such as lack of access to
an education and too much electronic waste in the environment are in the process of being solved.
Teen activists are brave and they persevere. Teen activists do not take no for an answer; instead, they
face the obstacles in their way, learn from their mistakes and stand up for what they believe in. They
inspire others and help to make our worId a better place. Without the effort of teen activists, problems
like the ones mentioned above might not be addressed. Teen activism plays an important role in
helping to solve the issues in our world. When teen activists see a problem, they do whatever they can
to try and fix it . An essential part of teen activism is gaining support for a cause. Therefore, teen
activists talk to their families, friends and others, such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Personal Aspects Of Personal Strengths
Have you ever experienced something that changed your outlook on life? Personal strength is
realizing you are at low times, but finding the positives even when it seems like nothing will get
better. During times of weakness, I struggled with finding hope and strength within myself. Personal
strength defines us as individuals. Because I experienced the loss of a good friend, and the divorce of
my parents at a young age, I was able to find personal strength.
Through the support of my friends and family, I was able to find personal strength after the loss of a
dear friend. In October of 2016, all of my friends and loved ones received the horrible news that our
friend had been in a horrible car accident. On October 15th, 2016 our blue eyed, blonde and beautiful
friend had passed away at only sixteen years old. Through this horrific time, it became very hard for
me, my peers, and my family to find strength. When we heard the news, our hearts ached, our bodies
trembled and our minds shut down. I simply felt nothing, but pain and sadness. This hardship became
very hard to stay positive and keep hope for better things to come in the future. Finding strength soon
became easier because I was not alone. I was not the only one trying to cope with the loss. We all
supported each other through this hard time. The support from my friends and family, for we were all
struggling together made it easier to find personal strength.
Because I realized that I was not alone, I was able to find

Kadampa Meditation Paper
While looking through the field visit site list and researching many of the different options, I was
drawn to the Vajradhara Buddhist Center, also known as the Kadampa Meditation Center of North

role in Buddhism, and get to actually experience meditation for myself. Through this hands on

takes great dedication and commitment to master.
Before visiting, I did some preliminary research to gain a perspective on Kadampa Buddhism. I found

A Short Story About Thomas

A grin formed across Thomas s face, as he glanced over at the grim reaper costume that was lying on
top of his dresser. Snatching it up, he pulled the black robe over his head, and then placed the skull
mask over his face. Covering his head with the hood, he grabbed the plastic scythe that was leaning
against the wall.
Standing in front of the mirror, he gazed at the dark, voiceless creature with the two empty eye sockets

The Effects Of Carbon Dioxide On Our Oceans
Our oceans absorb almost twenty five percent, each year, of all the carbon dioxide that human activity
emits into the air. Scientists originally believed that the idea of our oceans absorbing extra carbon
dioxide that is in the air was a positive idea, because it would deter global warming. But, they soon
came to the realization that this absorption process was having similarly disastrous effects, as global
warming does, and it what happening to our oceans. This phenomenon, of our oceans taking in the
excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, leads to ocean acidification; a term used to describe how
our oceans are becoming increasingly more acidic over time. However, just in the past 200 years,
ocean acidification has increased by thirty percent, and this number will only continue to increase due
to our current rate of industrialization.
Carbon dioxide is one of the major greenhouse gases, and is one of the most common gases found in
the earth s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere in mass amounts by human
activities and then absorbed by our oceans. The main way that carbon dioxide is added to the
atmosphere is by the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. Increased energy composition and with
the industrialization age, beginning in the 18th century, has led to a drastic spike in the burning of
fossil fuels and therefore the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The main emitters of
carbon dioxide are cars, airplanes, and factories

  • 2. Challenger Space Shuttle Disasters During the Challenger Space Shuttle Disaster, many professional responsibilities were neglected. First, engineers did not hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public (Ethics Code II. 1. a.). For example, although the ice inspection team found the launch situation to be of great concern, the launch director authorized it anyway (Texas A M University 5). At this point, professional bodies or public authorities should have been notified. Second, it was every engineer s responsibility to contact relevant officials on the matter. They should have cooperate with the proper authorities in furnishing such information [and provided] assistance as may be required (Ethics Code II. 1. f.). Third, there is an ethics violation when the recommendation to launch is passed along without engineer support and signature. According to the Ethics Code, in section II. 2. B., Engineers shall not affix their signatures to any plans or documents dealing with subject matter in which they lack competence, nor to any plan or document not prepared under their direction and control. Thiokol s management ignored this code and misrepresented the dissent among the qualified engineers (Texas A M University 5). On a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, after receiving no support with management on the subject, Boisjoly should have approached the appropriate authorities with the matter. Such response would be warranted as the matter concerned public safety, the upmost priority for engineers. Also, since Thiokol management ended up disregarding the engineer s judgment, Boisjoly should have removed himself from the project and ceased all work on it. Such response is unaffected by Boisjoly s age, job status, or personal life. • 3. What Is My Personal Nursing Philosophy Philosophy of Nursing As a professional nurse, my personal philosophy of nursing is based on the core belief that all individuals possess unique characteristics and needs. Each person is the product of their own personal growth through learning and experience, resulting in individual and unique cultural, spiritual and developmental dimensions. Nursing is a dynamic, helping, healing and caring process. It employs the unique application of knowledge and skills to improve the quality of life. Nursing is unique in its ability to provide a comprehensive and compassionate view of the health needs of every patient. The professional nurse promotes collaboration with the entire health care team and utilizes all available resources for the benefit of the client. I believe that the following values should guide the practice of nursing and provide the basis for the formulation of a philosophy of nursing; When making decisions about an individual nurse s scope of practice, the first and foremost considerations are the best interests of the patient, and the importance of promoting and maintaining the highest quality of health services. Nursing care should be delivered in a way that respects the uniqueness and dignity of each patient regardless of culture, ethnicity or religion. The therapeutic relationship between nurse and patient is fundamental to nursing practice, and is based on trust, understanding, compassion, and support. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Brady Bunch During The Vietnam War The Brady Bunch was just reflective to the direction that family standards was shifting towards, and even though The Brady Bunch wasn t the perfect nuclear family they still did uphold a vision of an almost impossibly perfect blended family that came together so seamlessly after a remarriage. While the idea of remarriage was changing the idea of marriage so did the supreme court case Loving v. Virginia in 1967 which lead to the legalization of interracial marriage. In some ways the case shifted the public s perception of what marriage was expected to be. As a result of this you got new types of entertainment like Guess who s coming to dinner? Showing an interracial couple that came out ironically unplanned around the same time as the court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The census statistics during this period shows a distinct transition in family dynamics and the growth of blended families across the nation. The transition to a broader definition of what marriage can be is what arguably has led to societies social shift to a larger acceptance of marriage that maybe historically didn t fit what the media portrayed as the ideal marriage; like blended families, interracial marriage, and in recent years the shift to acceptance of homosexual marriage and relationships that even in the 1960s was portrayed in cinema. The ideal shift of a perfectly imperfect television family that obviously have face trials and tribulations but still provides a loving home for children and a vessel for moral teachings is something that we still see today on television. Full House is arguably an outcome of the progression from The Brady Bunch era that expanded the idea of what marriage and family could be. Full house is a form of a blended family in a non traditional way. Instead of a remarriage you have a widowed single father with three daughters and his two male best friends helping raise them. Without previous shows like The Brady Bunch paving the way for non traditional families, shows like Full House might have never been given the avenue to tell these stories of non traditional families that were actively living in the ... Leadership And Hofstede s Five Dimensions Leadership and Hofstede s Five Dimensions Jordan Luke ORG300 Applying Leadership Principles Colorado State University Global Campus Sheila Landfairmueller December 7, 2014 Leadership and Hofstede s Five Dimensions In my experience, working in a team environment not only means working together collaboratively, but also means being sensitive to cultural differences and outlooks within the team. Dr. Geert Hofstede, a Dutch social phycologist, devised a way to recognize these cultural differences in five distinct dimensions (Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions, n.d.). This essay will discuss these five dimensions and how they relate to leadership, as well as presenting arguments on which combination of these dimensions makes the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Geert Hofstede, n.d.). A high score in this dimension represents a society that accepts an unequal distribution of power, and those employees will accept their place in this hierarchical system more readily than those societies with a low score (Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions, n.d.). Related to leadership. Power Distance relates to leadership in how employees view their leadership structure (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). In a high scoring PD culture, a clear social status of the leader is very important, so that employees can show proper respect (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). Low Power Distance scores indicate less tolerance of unequal distribution of power, and in turn employees will not put as much stock in the social status of their leader, but how accessible that leader is for collaboration (de Mooij Hofstede, 2010). Individualism (IDV) Individualism (IDV) is the second dimension of the Hofstede model, and represents whether the culture is of an individualist mindset, or collectivist mindset (Geert Hofstede, n.d.). Cultures with a high score in Individualism demonstrate a lack of interpersonal connection with each other, and a lack of sharing of responsibility beyond family and friends. (Geert Hofstede, n.d.). The positive from an individualist mindset is the self reliance and enjoyment of individual challenges that can contribute positively to the whole (Geert Hofstede, n.d.). Cultures ... • 8. Howard Thurman Essay Howard Thurman was born in Daytona, Florida (1899) into an overtly segregated and racially biased community. Due to an absence of educational opportunities for African Americans in Daytona, Thurman chose to attend a religiously affiliated high school in the Jacksonville area. As he progressed in age, Thurman developed a unique style of nature mysticism through his veneration of environmental phenomena. Additionally, Thurman was a prolific student who excelled at almost every level of study. After he completed his education, Thurman held teaching positions at various colleges and engaged in wide reaching lecture tours. During this early period in Thurman s career, he began to formulate and cultivate the major ideas that would comprise his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By acknowledging each individual s status as a child of God, the damning effects of fear, deception, and hatred can be eradicated by the powerful love of Christ. For Thurman, the true spirit of Christian relationships rests in the ability to love one s enemies. Although this specific teaching is not new or unique, its application to Christian relationships (especially between the disinherited and the privileged ) is extremely pertinent. Enmity between two individuals or two groups of individuals causes a physical and spiritual disunion that obstructs the individual s ability to experience the power of Christ. Therefore, I must resolve to always demonstrate an attitude of love toward my enemies in order to preserve the unity that is so vital to genuine spiritual experience. Ultimately, I found Howard Thurman s theory on the disinherited to be both logically valid and extremely thought provoking. In truth, I experienced a deeper engagement with Thurman s ideas than any other spiritual practitioner that I have explored thus far this semester. This study has caused me to reflect on my own status as a privileged individual, realize my need to identify with the disinherited, and remember to demonstrate love to my ... I think the music wonderfully shapes principal s personality and Ms.Garanča s performance made Carmen more vivid. She performed this opera in The Metropolitan Opera in 2010. In the first act, when Ms.Garanča sang L amour est un oiseau rebelle , I can tell Carmen s charm and uninhibited personality. She knows that she is very attractive to men, so she is very confident about herself and tries to draw all the men s attention. The melody of this aria is very stretchy and flowing and it contains a strong temptation, gorgeous and elegant. What s more, In the keywords of L amour , the chorus companion made it particularly outstanding, I think it carries a beauty and naturalness. Added Ms.Garanča s performance, it fully shows Carmen s bold, passionate and full of mysterious charm of the character. Also, in the same act, when Carmen tempted Don Jose, she sang another famous aria Près des remparts de Séville , the melody is full of passion and it also contains a bit of wild, it further shows carmen s characterization. ... • 10. My Guest Star Featured Is Sara Picklesimer Recently this week, we ve been discussing perception and how it impacts the way we communicate in our daily lives. Interestingly enough, this episode of COMMPENDIUM hosted by Professor Stephen Stifano focused on this subject and its attributes. Our guest star featured is Sara Picklesimer, a University of Louisville graduate and now currently a doctoral student at the University of Connecticut in the field of communication. She was born in Pinesville, Kentucky, and started off as a biology major before realizing her passion was communication after taking her first public speaking course. Despite being a shy and reserved individual, Ms. Picklesimer found that she actually enjoyed and was surprisingly good at this field. She now teaches a gender and communication course here at the University of Connecticut, which ties in gender through music and a variety of other aspects in relation to communication. She gives us her expert lecture on two primary topics related to perception: thin slicing and the impact and effect of gender on the ways in which we communicate. Professor Stifano mentioned some of the foundations of perception that we have discussed in our lecture, including selective attention and perceptual filters. The other aspects revealed in this podcast are thin slicing and gender. All of these elements tie into each other in terms of communicating effectively and making decisions, and what make up perception. We learned that perception is selecting, organizing, and ... I have noticed, however, that there is no logical reason for certain things like why humans have opposable thumbs but lions don t or what is it about a colour that makes it your favourite. There is no reason for certain things to be the way they are, but we accept them to be the only way of life and even fight over it. One completely arbitrary thing that seems to be universal is the idea of a year. What makes a certain point in the Earth s elliptical orbit the beginning and why can t everybody agree on one day? What makes January first the first day of the year? Why can t the first day be September twenty third or June twenty first? What makes January so special? In fact, different cultures and religions have different days for when the year begins. For example, the Jews celebrate New Years (or Rosh Hashanah) on the first of the month of Tishrei (which, this year, is on October second). Why can t there be an agreed upon date for this absolutely arbitrary idea of the beginning of the year. In addition, there isn t even an agreed upon number of days in a year. Most years, in the solar calendar, have 365 days but every four years, there are 366 days. In the lunar calendar, there are 354 days. As well, who is to say that there are twelve months in a year and about 30 days in each. Why not four months or 20 months? This idea is only one thing that nobody can find a ... In fact, some of the plot details, symbols, or themes will appear confusing or thoughtless solely if the characters are not properly worked into the novel. However, characters, when well thought out, can also enhance a work of literature, pushing it beyond the realm of generic plots and simple, noncomplex themes and symbols. In the novel Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse, the development of Characters such as Siddhartha, Govinda, and Vasudeva help the reader to better understand the central message that the author is trying to portray. This situation enhances the theme of light and darkness present in the novel. As Govinda is portrayed as a shadow, at this point in the story he is only a by product of the light of enlightenment that Siddhartha is metaphorically facing. This theme is communicated largely through these two characters. If it was communicated in any other way, as through imagery, for example, the story would not have been as complex. Another theme in the novel that is communicated through the use of characterization is the theme of sleep and meditation. The protagonist Siddhartha often uses either sleep or deep thought to forget something that has happened in his pas life. Siddhartha is an extremely dynamic character. Throughout the novel he moves form a rich lifestyle to a poor deeply religious one, back to a rich one, and finally he pursues a poor lifestyle once again at the end of the book. Siddhartha is indecisive in this whole process and in order to forget each one of his past lives he either uses sleep or deep meditation. When he leaves his wife and child, he walks to a river and falls into a deep sleep. He had dies and a new Siddhartha had awakened from his sleep (Hesse 100). Another interesting trend which demonstrates growth is the rise in interest income and other expenses from 0.07% of sales in 1997 to 0.13% in 2001 on the income sheet. Typically, this value fluctuates each year with the amount of cash a company keeps on hand. In the Israelites wars of Jericho recorded in the Books of Joshua, the invasion of the city of Jericho led to the putting of everyone to death except the family of Rahab at the command of the Lord. In addition humanity has also recorded countless histories of the manipulation of religion to the detriments of the victims. In various ways, religion has been used as a tool for politicization and violence. It has been a very common experience to politicize religion. • 28. Dbq Jury System There are certain aspects of the United States government that seem to be at the core of ensuring democracy for all citizens. These ideas include representative leaders like the President, or the bicameral legislature. Similarly, the jury system is another structure of the government that many people hold close to their hearts. Although it seems like the ultimate way that the citizens can self govern, is the jury system really the best way to reach a verdict in civil and/or criminal cases? The bottom line is that the jury system is an outdated structure. Specifically, bench trials, or trials decided only by a judge, are much more effective than jury trials because judges are more educated, less susceptible to popular influence, and are not ... In trials like that of Casey Anthony, the mother arrested and charged with killing her two year old daughter Caylee, the popularity and widespread coverage of the case definitely influenced how citizens across the country believed Anthony should be sentenced (Document D). Anyone who saw one news story on the case that was then called to the jury probably already had formed their opinion on the status of Anthony s innocence, without reviewing any court evidence. Consequently, their predisposed opinion, similar to the cats on the jury in Cartoon 3 of Document E, could have resulted in a weighted outcome. Also, the fear of a wrong decision made by the jury could have motivated a juror to vote solely for the outcome most popularly desirable. For example, Document D quotes Janine Gonzalez, a nearby member of Anthony s community, as saying She (Casey Anthony) better move and move to a faraway place. Even though, in the end, Anthony was declared innocent, the fear of her life as well as the possible violence that could occur after the verdict could have been enough to sway a juror to convict her just to satisfy a popular ... • 32. Personal Aspects Of Personal Strengths Have you ever experienced something that changed your outlook on life? Personal strength is realizing you are at low times, but finding the positives even when it seems like nothing will get better. During times of weakness, I struggled with finding hope and strength within myself. Personal strength defines us as individuals. Because I experienced the loss of a good friend, and the divorce of my parents at a young age, I was able to find personal strength. Through the support of my friends and family, I was able to find personal strength after the loss of a dear friend. In October of 2016, all of my friends and loved ones received the horrible news that our friend had been in a horrible car accident. On October 15th, 2016 our blue eyed, blonde and beautiful friend had passed away at only sixteen years old. Through this horrific time, it became very hard for me, my peers, and my family to find strength. When we heard the news, our hearts ached, our bodies trembled and our minds shut down. I simply felt nothing, but pain and sadness. This hardship became very hard to stay positive and keep hope for better things to come in the future. Finding strength soon became easier because I was not alone. I was not the only one trying to cope with the loss. We all supported each other through this hard time. The support from my friends and family, for we were all struggling together made it easier to find personal strength. Because I realized that I was not alone, I was able to find ... Kadampa Meditation Paper While looking through the field visit site list and researching many of the different options, I was drawn to the Vajradhara Buddhist Center, also known as the Kadampa Meditation Center of North Carolina. I discovered that they offered an Introduction to Meditation class which seemed to be perfect for me. The Kadampa Meditation Center s website describes the class as being ideal for beginners and newcomers to Buddhism and meditation. With having no prior experience with any Buddhist practices or meditation, I presumed this class would be a great way for me to learn the basics of meditation, its role in Buddhism, and get to actually experience meditation for myself. Through this hands on learning experience, I was able to learn that meditation is much more than just a casual practice; it takes great dedication and commitment to master. Before visiting, I did some preliminary research to gain a perspective on Kadampa Buddhism. I found that the New Kadampa Tradition puts a high emphasis on Buddha s teachings and applies many practical methods to their practice. Then, we were to close our eyes and begin meditating, while focusing and concentrating on that image of Buddha in our minds. Leaves the colors of a brilliant sunset, playfully glided and danced along the street s edge. He smiled. Soon the vending trucks would be pulling up outside, and the town folks hurrying about as they prepared the streets for the Festival of Ghouls. A grin formed across Thomas s face, as he glanced over at the grim reaper costume that was lying on top of his dresser. Snatching it up, he pulled the black robe over his head, and then placed the skull mask over his face. Covering his head with the hood, he grabbed the plastic scythe that was leaning against the wall. Standing in front of the mirror, he gazed at the dark, voiceless creature with the two empty eye sockets and grisly teeth. For a moment, he imagined the creature, not as ... • 36. The Effects Of Carbon Dioxide On Our Oceans Our oceans absorb almost twenty five percent, each year, of all the carbon dioxide that human activity emits into the air. Scientists originally believed that the idea of our oceans absorbing extra carbon dioxide that is in the air was a positive idea, because it would deter global warming. But, they soon came to the realization that this absorption process was having similarly disastrous effects, as global warming does, and it what happening to our oceans. This phenomenon, of our oceans taking in the excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, leads to ocean acidification; a term used to describe how our oceans are becoming increasingly more acidic over time. However, just in the past 200 years, ocean acidification has increased by thirty percent, and this number will only continue to increase due to our current rate of industrialization. Carbon dioxide is one of the major greenhouse gases, and is one of the most common gases found in the earth s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere in mass amounts by human activities and then absorbed by our oceans. The main way that carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere is by the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. Increased energy composition and with the industrialization age, beginning in the 18th century, has led to a drastic spike in the burning of fossil fuels and therefore the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The main emitters of carbon dioxide are cars, airplanes, and factories ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
