The document discusses the impacts of climate change on various species and ecosystems in India. It notes that climate change threatens species like the snow leopard, lesser fishing eagle, whale shark, and Olive Ridley turtle by destroying their habitats. It also discusses how climate change endangers forests, which play an important role in carbon sequestration. Deforestation accounts for 26% of India's greenhouse gas emissions. The document calls for actions like preventing deforestation, developing renewable energy, and enacting policies to combat climate change in order to protect the environment and human livelihoods.

Status of Heavy metal pollution in Mithi river: Then and NowIJRES Journal
The Mithi River runs through the heart of suburban Mumbai. Its path of flow has been severely
damaged due to industrialization and urbanization. The quality of water has been deteriorating ever since. The
Municipal and industrial effluents are discharged in unchecked amounts. The municipal discharge comprises
untreated domestic and sewage wastes whereas the industries are majorly discharge chemicals and other toxic
effluents which are responsible in increasing the metal load of the river. In the current study, the water is
analysed for heavy metals- Copper, Cadmium, Chromium, Lead and Nickel. It also includes a brief
understanding on the fluctuations that have occurred in the heavy metal pollution, through the compilation of
studies carried out in the area previously.

Lodhi (or Lodi) Garden - New Delhi... popular tourist place for greenery loversAmit Ranjan
A bunch of snaps that I took at Lodhi Garden....
About Lodhi Garden (from wikipedia)-
Lodhi Gardens is a park in Delhi, India. It contains architectural works of the Lodhis, a pashtun Muslim dynasty which ruled much of Northern India during the 16th century. The gardens are situated between Khan Market and Safdarjung's Tomb on Lodhi Road.
Lodhi Gardens was originally a village surrounding monuments surviving from the Sayyid and Lodhi dynasties, but the villagers were relocated in 1936 in order to create the gardens. As there is little architecture from these two periods remaining in India, Lodhi Gardens is an important place of preservation. The tomb of Mohammed Shah is visible from the road, and is the earliest structure in the gardens. The architecture is characterised by the octagonal chamber, with stone chhajjas on the roof and guldastas on the corners.
In the middle of the gardens is the Bara Gumbad and Sheesh Gumbad. The Bara Gambad ("Big Dome") consists of a large rubble-construct dome, a three domed masjid (mosque) and a residence surrounding a central courtyard, where the remains of a water tank can be seen. Opposite the Bara Gambad is the Sheesh Gambad, which contains the remains of an unknown family.
This case study will be useful for environment subjects,it will enhance your knowledge about the the growing menace of global issue POLLUTION in our country
The relationship between humanity and the environment is a delicate balance. Since the industrial revolution, the world's population has increased exponentially, and with the population growth, the environment has been profoundly affected. Deforestation, pollution and global climate changes are amongst the adverse effects the population and technological expansion has introduced. Included in this category are both subjects dealing with attempts to reduce the negative impact on the environment, and subjects which aim to gain a greater understanding of the environment itself.

In this lesson you will comprehend how the consumption of everyday p.docxmigdalialyle
In this lesson you will comprehend how the consumption of everyday products affects the availability of renewable and nonrenewable natural resources for future generations and learn about environmental threats to our home.
Read the following information to help you define three different types of resources—renewable, nonrenewable, perpetual.
1. On earth, there are only limited amounts of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas. There are also only limited amounts of minerals, such as iron, copper and bauxite. These resources either cannot be replaced by natural processes or require millions of years to replenish.
2. Some renewable and nonrenewable resources can be recycled or reused. This process decreases the rate at which the supplies of these resources are depleted. For example, aluminum cans can be recycled and turned into “new” cans or other aluminum products many times over. Recycling reduces the need to mine bauxite, the mineral used to manufacture aluminum.
3. Renewable natural resources include plants, animals and water when they are properly cared for. Minerals and fossil fuels such as coal and oil are examples of nonrenewable natural resources.
4. Trees, wildlife, water and many other natural resources are replaced by natural processes. Plants and animals can also be replenished by human activities. Water is continuously cycled and reused. Sunlight, wind, geothermal heat, tides and flowing water are perpetual resources.
Water is a resource that is typically considered renewable. However, over usage of water can cause us to use it faster than it is replenished.
The chart below approximates daily water consumption in the United States:
1. Thermoelectric Utilities 187 billion gallons/day
2. Irrigation 137 billion gallons/day
3. Public Water Supply 36 billion gallons/day
4. Industry 26 billion gallons/day
5. Rural and Livestock 8 billion gallons/day
Total 394 billion gallons/day
What are the threats to our environment?
Biodiversity
Biodiversity is all of the Earth's plants, animals, ecosystems and genes. It includes the tallest tree, the smallest insect, and the most delicate coral reef ecosystem. Biodiversity is what allows the Earth and all of its creatures to adapt and survive.
As humans, we are completely dependent on biodiversity for survival. Yet we are destroying large parts of our natural world. In places far and wide, humans are squeezing out other forms of life, sometimes causing the extinction of entire species.
We have the power to change our course. Each of us can act to protect our biodiversity and help create a sustainable future for life on Earth. Learn more about biodiversity and how

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

31. “At one time they said climate change is a myth – today there is another myth at work – the governments of the world are doing something worthwhile to fight climate change – this is the inconvenient truth” Al Gore
32. Yes. Let us debate the carbon-energy issue -- not whether it causes climate change, but the strategies needed to wean ourselves away from carbon.
33. Jungle nadikimaahai. That is what our ancestors believed. We would do well to heed the wisdom of the ages handed down to us by the Rig Veda.
34. This stick insect imagines it will live forever. We are no different.
35. Photo: Dr. Anish Andheria/Sanctuary Photolibrary Kids for Tigers, the Sanctuary Tiger Programme works with one million Indian children and is preparing them to combat climate change.
37. What can India do? Voluntarily set and achieve carbon reduction targets and demand no-cost or low-cost technology transfers from the industrial north, which is responsible for our climate crisis by spewing a disproportionate amount of carbon into the Earth’s atmosphere. Prevent deforestation, which accounts for nearly 26 per cent of all greenhouse emissions in India. Develop new and alternate energy technologies (wind, solar and tidal) and bring policies – fiscal, regulatory, environmental – in line with climate change imperatives. Invest in making power generation and distribution more efficient, emphasizing the use of renewable energies, pollution control and soil and water conservation.
38. 5. Develop sophisticated scientific projects and models on the impact of climate change so as to better understand and predict the intensity and geography of climate change and develop region-specific solutions. 6. Give population control, education, health and sustainable transport the priority they deserve. 7. Create financial incentives to encourage carbon sequestration and storage and penalize irresponsible carbon emissions. 8. Play a more positive global role and demand that industrial nations cut back sharply on carbon emissions.
39. What can we do? Consume less, waste less, walk and use public transport. Protest against deforestation and support those working to regenerate natural ecosystems. Plantations of eucalyptus do not really help combat climate change as they will soon be cut for commerce. Plant native trees. Use solar and wind energy even if these cost marginally more now. Convince your housing society to use your building terrace for a community solar facility. Switch to energy-saving appliances. Turn computers and other electric gadgets off when not in use. Save water. Recycle newspapers, bottles – everything you can.
40. 7. Think before you take that next flight. Air travel leaves a huge carbon footprint. Trains are more climate-friendly. If you are building that dream home – think green. Ask your architect to design an energy efficient home. Learn all you can about climate change and share your knowledge with others. Watch the films ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ and ‘The 11th Hour’. 10. Say “NO” to plastic bags and urge your neighborhood to follow suit. 11. Vegetarians have a lower carbon footprint than non- vegetarians. 12. Buy local goods, rather than materials from afar, which have been transported using fossil fuels.
