1. Human influence has warmed the climate at a rate unprecedented in recent millennia. The atmosphere and oceans have warmed, sea ice and snow cover have diminished, and sea levels have risen.
2. Each of the last three decades has likely been the warmest in the Northern Hemisphere over the past 1400 years. Global surface temperatures have increased 0.85°C since 1880, and the ocean has absorbed over 90% of this increased heat.
3. Glaciers and ice sheets have declined, ocean waters have warmed and become more acidic, and extreme events have increased as greenhouse gas levels have risen to their highest in at least 800,000 years.
