For my Community and Leadership class we had to find an organization to talk about how it uses new media. I chose to talk about The La Junta Kids Rodeo.

The first Kids Rodeo was in 1938
Includes horse racing, queen contest, and rodeo
events
Non-profit organization
Ran by board members and volunteers
Donations and prizes from community members and
businesses allow for rodeo to continue
3. Mission Statement
To promote cowboy tradition in the Arkansas Valley
and surrounding areas of Southeastern Colorado.
4. Why?
Why I chose this organization?
I participated in it since I was 6
I am now a board member
My step-father is the president
My grandfather was one of the first contestants
Rodeo/horse racing is part of me
My grandmother was the secretary
My step grandparents both participated in the rodeo
and continue to volunteer

The new media tools being used are trying to reach
an audience.
The organization wants to spread the word and get
more people involved.
More kids participating

New media tools did not replace but contribute to the
older media being used
Radio-some board members will go on the radio a
week before the rodeo
Newspaper-the local newspaper will write an article
before the rodeo
After the rodeo, the paper puts the winners in an article
as well as a thank you to the supporters

The new media is not being used effectively

Not very many likes
Geared more towards one part of the rodeo
Queen Contest
Does not promote the rodeo very well
Needs more pictures up

What I would do differently?
Update the Facebook page and website
Evenly talk about all the rodeo
Not just one part
It is hard to keep up with
Event is only once a year
But
Try to make at least monthly posts
Can keep up with pro rodeo
Rodeo news around the state
