Focusing the League’s
Community Impact
A stunning 25 percent of Philadelphia residents, double the national rate, are at
risk for hunger. Even more people—39 percent of Philadelphia’s children—live
in poverty, with their basic nutritional needs unmet. To fight this epidemic, the
League launched our Apple a Day Healthy Living Initiative™ in 2012. The goals of
Apple a Day programming are to FEED our community:
Creating a Home for
Our Membership
Having purchased our first permanent Headquarters in 2003, we are now poised
to undertake significant renovations in order to transform it into the professional
environment that will support our volunteers’ work in the community.
The second floor will be renovated to create:
• two Committee Meeting Rooms
• a Community Room that can be divided for use by smaller groups
• a fully-functional Kitchen to support events and meetings
• a Members’ Lounge for interest group gatherings and informal meetings
The third floor will be remodeled to establish:
• a Board Room for the League’s leadership groups
• an Administrative Suite of four professional work spaces for employees and
League leaders
To ensure sustainability and protect our investment, a portion of funds raised will
establish a maintenance endowment, income from which will be used to defray
expenses of owning, operating, and caring for our Headquarters.

education programming for children and their
caregivers.

Greener Partners, Lankenau Medical Center,

programming.

receive a 26-week annual supply of fresh
produce, paid for by the JLP.

What size gift should I make?
Each member’s participation in this historic campaign is what matters most. Please
give an amount that reflects your personal circumstance and honors the importance
of the League in your life.
Anonymous 2:1 Challenge Match
A generous League member who wishes to remain anonymous has issued a
challenge. She will match, 2:1, all new or increased gifts made between now and
May 31, 2014, up to $150,000! In the words of our challenger, “Every one of us has
gained something from League membership and has a stake in our future; every one
of us should give!”
How is this campaign different from the Annual Fund?
Annual Fund gifts are sought on a yearly basis from each League member to help
sustain our day-to-day activities, both internal and external. They are critical to a
balanced budget. Capital campaign contributions are being sought from the general
membership this year only and will be used to support Apple a Day programming and
Headquarters renovations.
I want to support the League!
Need time to be more generous?
Gifts of $2,012 or more may be paid over three fiscal years:
Three annual
installments of:
Total contribution of:
$3,334 $10,002 (Leadership Donors
of this amount or more will be
recognized on a permanent
display in the renovated
Headquarters)
$2,500 $7,500
$1,667 $5,001
$1,000 $3,000
$670.70 $2,012 (in honor of our
Centennial year)
FACILITATE increased access to fresh produce
EDUCATE adults and children to experience the connection
between healthy eating and healthy living
EMPOWER individuals to become advocates
for their own health and wellbeing
DISTRIBUTE fresh produce in areas classified as food deserts
Our groundbreaking Apple a Day programming, developed with our community’s
urgent needs in mind and at heart, will target, focus, and strengthen our influence in
the communities we serve.
