Real Number
 All numbers you have studied so far are REAL
 This means that we can graph them on a number line
Rational Numbers
 A rational number can be written as a fraction OR as a repeating decimal
 Examples of rational numbers would be −2,
1
3
, 1.2121212121, 4 and −3.75
Irrational Numbers
 An irrational number cannot be written as a fraction OR as a repeating decimal
 Examples of irrational numbers are 7, 1.23456, and 𝜋
Integers
 An integer can be positive, negative, or 0
 An integer does not include fractions or decimals
 Examples of integers are -3, 6, 0, 1, and 10.
Whole Numbers
 Whole numbers can only be 0 or positive
 Whole numbers can not include fractions or decimals
 Examples of whole numbers include 0, 1, 3, 10, 12, and 20039384
Natural (or Counting) Numbers
 Natural numbers can only be positive
 Natural numbers cannot include fractions or decimals
 Examples of natural numbers include 1, 2, 5, 6, 1000393, and 1000000000
