 Anandakanda means ‘Roots Of Bliss’.
 Ananda kanda is one of the subject text which gives an elaborate
description of rasa-shastra .
 Deha-vada concept of rasa-shastra has been describes elaborately
along with loha-vada in this text
 This book is written in the form of shiva Parvati sambhasa
 Following the ancient texts of rasarnava,rasahridyatantra rasaratnakar
etc. the subject is arranged in very simple ,orderly and comprehensive
manner.

Ayurveda acarya Shri V.B.Nataraja Shastri , President of Atreya Ayurveda shala of
vishirpur revised those 3 matrikas and this Anandakanda book was published in 1952
from Tajor Saraswati library tamilnadu.
Before this the 1st
publication of Anandakanda was published by Trivandrum Sanksrit –
series edited by K.Sambashiva shastri in 1928 AD

UNIQUENESS :
 Each part of this book is named as Visranti which indicates the state of tranquility
and feeling of ease.
 Each chapter of this book is known as Ullasa .It indicates that as one goes
through the book he gets delighted & attains happiness.
 Text based on Raseshwar Darshana (it means that the Jeevan mukta is achieved by
accomplishing pinda shiratwa by rasa seva). Jeevan mukti is only by using parada.
 First book to show the relationship between rasashastra and divine
accomplishment
 Other then the subject matter we come across many aspects of ayurveda like
dincarya, rutucarya , importance of yoga in rasa siddhi.
 Also 64 divya aushadi like somvelli , Atasi , rohini etc are mention .
 The first text to mention ushapana as a rasayana .

 Importance of knowledge and practice of yoga in attaining rasa siddhi has been
highlighted by the author.
 While describing the qualities of the sisya of rasa shastra narrating him as ‘satkarma
nirvata suri ‘.
 In this text ‘bhunaga’ (earthworm) is been described for medicinal purposes. Along
with herbs and set of minerals its use has been highlighted in context of ‘jarana’
siddhabida and other such topic.
 Around 49 uparasa are listed in which 9 are audbhid , 10 jangama dravyas and 30
Parthiva Dravya .
 Anandakanda referred to 12 lohas.
 Anandakanda , uparatna category is unique and completely different from all the other
text .(suryakanta, candrakanta, tarakanta, kantaka, vaikranta, sasyaka, Vimala,
peroja)

CRITICALAPPRAISAL
 Most importantly Dravya classification have been discussed very lucidly by the author
 Only parada is classified as maharasa in this text other all are been termed as
uparasa
 Interestingly it is not clear , why the term maharasa comes under uparasa catergory
while remaning all text has referred to maharasa respective category.
 It is a matter of conjecture why animal and herbal dravyas were included along with
parthiva under uparasa category.

Anandakanda is an important text.
 The subject matter of this text is arranged systematically.

previous rasashastra text.
