The present study is focussed on biodegradation of the vinegar effluents by mixed culture bacteria isolated from the soil. The presence of acetic acid in the vinegar plant effluent contaminates the water and soil erodes if the effluent is released into the soil, ultimately contaminate the ground water table. It is necessary to remove acetic acid from the vinegar plant effluents. The technique used in this study in order to remove biodegradable matter is Aerobic Biodegradation. Varying initial concentrations of vinegar is synthetically prepared in the laboratory, which resembled the effluent released from the vinegar plant by adding the vinegar of 1%, 4%, 7% to 1250 ml water respectively. The mixed culture bacteria from the soil grown on standard Lysogeny Broth medium and introduced into the aerobic fluidized bed reactor after 24 hours and the bacteria (Bacilli, Cocci)biodegraded the organic matter i.e., acetic acid present in the sample. Samples analysed for vinegar concentration, DO and salinity, electrical conductivity for every 24hr, 48hr, and 72hr by volumetric analysis. The pH, DO, salinity, electrical conductivity and concentrations of the each samples measured for every 24hr, 48hr, and 72hr respectively. The pH of 1%, 4% & 7% samples varied from 6 to 9, 5 to 8.5 & 3 to 7 respectively from day1 to day3. The dissolved oxygen altered from 4ppm to 1ppm for 1% sample from day1 to day3 and from 5ppm to 2ppm for 4% vinegar sample for day1 o day3. Electrical conductivity of 1% vinegar sample increased from 52 to 58 from day1 to day3.

Potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate and citric acid together with vacuum packing have extended puree shelf life by 3-6 months in our trials at ambient conditions (T<25C).
However, the gap lies on the efficacy of the preservative combination in retarding or stopping the growth of harmful pathogens in the puree, and also their effects on β-carotene retention is unknown.

Two ethanol fermenting Saccharomyces cerevisiae were isolated from date juice and grapes and grown in YEPD medium. They were characterized for alcoholic fermentation using sugarcane molasses and their growth conditions were optimized with respect to pH and sugar concentration. Results revealed a temperature of 30ºC, pH 6.0 and 6.5% sugar concentration as optimum for fermentation. Stress tolerance tests showed that date juice isolate was highly tolerant to temperature, pH and high ethanol concentration in the medium. liberation of some extracellular polymeric compound (EPS) e.g. proteins, carbohydrate, acids etc. that are

This study evaluated the survival of Salmonella enteritidis (SE) and Salmonella typhimurium (ST) in drinking water with and without the addition of 7 different acidifiers and prebiotics under indoor environmental conditions in Malaysia. The results showed that only two of the products tested significantly reduced the titers of SE and ST in water. However, one of the effective products reduced the pH of the water too much for chickens to drink. An acidifier called Digester Broiler reduced SE and ST significantly when added to water at a dosage of 0.5ml per liter, providing a potential in vitro method for evaluating the efficacy of Salmonella control treatments in drinking water.

Two tests were performed comparing the disinfectants Bioclean and Rodasept in a commercial hatchery and on broiler breeder eggs in Costa Rica. Bioclean and Rodasept were each used in different areas of setters and hatchers, with Bioclean applied at concentrations of 400-1000 ppm and Rodasept at 80 ml/gallon. Testing found lower levels of bacteria and fungi growth in areas treated with Bioclean. A separate test spraying Bioclean or Rodasept on broiler breeder eggs also found less bacterial growth on eggs treated with Bioclean compared to Rodasept or no disinfectant.
5 Salmonella Water Malaysia
The study aimed to determine the survival of Salmonella enteritidis (SE) and Salmonella typhimurium (ST) in drinking water under indoor environmental conditions in Malaysia, and the efficacy of 7 acidifiers in reducing their survival. Only two acidifiers were effective against the Salmonellae - Digester Broiler and vinegar - but their low pH levels meant birds would not drink the water. Digester Broiler at 0.5ml/L reduced SE and ST counts the most significantly without affecting water pH or palatability. Further in vivo studies were needed to fully assess the acidifiers' potential under controlled and field conditions.
