This document outlines CILIP Ireland's strategic plan and action plan for 2018. The strategic plan has 5 objectives: advocacy, workforce development, member services, standards and innovation, and operations and governance. The action plan details priority programmes and actions for 2018 to support the strategic objectives, including advocating to government, supporting professional development, recruiting new members, engaging employers, and using digital platforms and good governance.

– The objectives of CILIP Ireland shall be the creation of a sense of community within the
profession, advocating and building influence among key decision makers in Government and
supporting CILIP Ireland members to develop their professional skills and standards

Working with CILIP and supported by our Development Manager, the CILIP Ireland Committee will
Support CILIP evidence based advocacy by providing local knowledge and insight
Support CILIP campaigns (My Library By Right; A Million Decisions) through local promotion and engagement,
increasing public awareness by promoting the relevance and benefits of library and information services
Advise CILIP on political engagement, the NI Programme for Government and opportunities to advocate to local
politicians and key stakeholders to facilitate being seen as trusted advisors on library and information policy issues
Lead on demonstrating the value of professional development
Foster and encourage personal responsibility for advocacy, integrating into the daily work of CILIP Ireland
members, and embedding advocacy as part of educational preparation for library and information workers
Represent CILIP Ireland in responding to consultations

Workforce development

Working with CILIP and supported by our Development Officer, the CILIP Ireland Committee will
Encourage and enable CILIP Ireland members to develop, adapt and enhance their skills, encouraging a cross-
sectoral approach to knowledge sharing, signposting and delivering high quality and valued training opportunities
via a relevant and comprehensive CPD programme
Foster leadership, increasing the number of mentors available to support professional registration candidates, and
encouraging a culture of peer support
Work with existing partners (Ulster University to encourage and support the CILIP accredited LIM course; LAI), and
investigate strategic partnerships with analogous associations and special interest groups
Celebrate the profession

Working with CILIP and supported by our Development Officer, the CILIP Ireland Committee will
Retain a strong, broad sector wide membership
Promote revised CILIP membership 2018 model to encourage returning members and provide a focus for recruiting
new members, equipping library and information professionals to demonstrate the value of CILIP membership to
employers
Grow CILIP Ireland membership through engagement, support and communications
Take a structured approach to communications with members, utilising targeted comms, dynamic web content and
impactful social media; keeping pace with technology and embracing new communication tools
Provide mechanisms by which library and information workers can communicate, network and knowledge share
Facilitate employer engagement, ensuring our activities reflect the needs of current library and information
workforce, and examining emerging industries and future skills

Working with CILIP and supported by our Development Officer, the CILIP Ireland Committee will
Support CILIP initiatives in standards & innovation
Engage with and input to CILIP policy developments, providing a local perspective and seeking to influence at
national level
Learn from national initiatives, cascading learnings to membership and adapting and applying locally as appropriate
Keep abreast of best practice and international developments and seek opportunities to engage with national and
international library and information communities

Working with CILIP and supported by our Development Officer, the CILIP Ireland Committee will
Operate in an open and transparent fashion, utilising CILIP Ireland website and digital platforms to publicise the
workings of the committee and facilitate two way communication with membership
Introduce and inculcate the CILIP Ireland constitution, ensuring succession planning and continuity
Minimise financial risk through good governance and careful management
Remain sustainable
Produce an annual Action Plan outlining actions in support of objectives and strategic priorities
