For CI350, we had to pick four Twitter accounts from a video that we were interested in
and follow them. All of the accounts that were mentioned in the video were educationally based
in some way or another. The four that I chose were David Truss, Eric Sheninger, Tom Altepeter,
and Jerry Blumengarten. The first of these, Truss, is a high school principal that implements days
that he calls ‘#nooffice days’. These are days that he is out of his office for the entire day,
visiting classrooms and being active in the school. I really like the idea of this. I have thought
about getting a master’s degree in administration and trying to be a principal and I think that this
is a great philosophy to have with the job. There are way too many principals out there that are
just too comfortable sitting in their offices all day long. Sheninger is another principal. He
questions a lot of current educational practices, which is a good thing. I am not sure that
everything about the current education system needs to be changed, but complacency is
something that does not belong in the educational field, and seeing someone that embraces
change so much is a breath of fresh air. Altepeter is an assistant principal that tweets about social
justice and just mind opening things in general. I really liked some of the quotes that he tweeted.
They are generally about education, but can be transitioned into everyday life as well.
Blumengarten is a retired educator that answers questions on Twitter. Anything that you may
have questions about you can get his opinion on.
