1. @CI350class: Following @CI350class was very helpful when it comes to class
assignments. When I didn’t understand one of the topics I would get on twitter. Seeing
these tweets was helpful because it either sparked ideas or provided further explanation
for me. It was cool to see the different videos and webpages about using technology in
the classroom. One tweet that I really found interesting was a tweet from November 23,
2013 that said, “It’s not about the technology, it’s about what teachers can do with it!”
This had a link to it that takes you to this website. As I was reading this, I kept thinking
of how different education would be if all teachers found technology an important tool.
Teachers, even older ones, need to realize that although they did not have all of the
technology that we have now, we need to use it to interest our students.
@d_martin05: D Martin is a math teacher. I chose to follow him because I thought I
could get some help finding ideas to use technology in education. I was not so
impressed with his tweets because they did not meet my expectations. His tweets were
focused more toward his student’s assignments and his personal life. However, this was
helpful because it does show how to have a twitter account for your students. It was a
good way for me to see what was appropriate for students. Using twitter for
assignments or to answer questions to a further extent is a more effective tool for
students. I think this is a better tool than using something like email because the
students will be on twitter anyway. So if the teacher posts something, they can see it
while on twitter rather than having to remember to check their email. Twitter is a more
convenient tool for not only secondary students, but also for parents of elementary
school students.
@GwynethJones: To be completely honest, “The Darling Librarian” annoyed me to
death! She was not helpful at all. I chose to follow her because I want to teach early
elementary so I thought it would be good to follow her to see what it would be like for a
librarian with little kids. She actually did have a few good ideas like the “Reading in a
Wonderland.” That was the only tweet I saw that was the least bit helpful, and it did not
even pertain to my unit plan. She basically only tweeted about her personal like and
other unnecessary things that would not be useful in a classroom or with children.
@ChrisWejr: I decided to follow Chris because he is a kindergarten through sixth grade
school principal. Because want to teach at that level I thought it would be good to see
what the principal’s thoughts were throughout his day and life after having the job he
has. There was one great article that he posted where he said, “Educating Educators.”
The article talked about how education has changed so much in the past 15 years. It
said that we cannot continue to follow the same teaching methods we have been using
because it is no longer working for us anymore. Educators have said that it is much
harder to engage all students with the technology we have in today’s society and the
content they are using in their classrooms. It talked about the debate between
technology being a positive or negative thing in the classroom. It could be positive
2. because it would engage the students and keep them learning, but it could also be a
negative thing because it could distract the students with all of its capabilities. However,
it is important to use what we have to engage our students.
@cmcgee200: I chose to follow Chris McGee because he is a curriculum coordinator
and is technologically savvy. Chris’ twitter was one of my favorites to follow because it
was so helpful. He showed so many different ideas and examples of different ways to
integrate technology into education. He had examples for younger and older students,
most of which he did not actually tweet, but that he retweeted. As we have been
learning in this class, it is so important to integrate technology into education in an
effective way in order to keep the students interested and to keep them learning. With
the technology advancements we have today it is hard for people to focus on anything
that does not have some sort of technology included in it. I think he has been a perfect
example of what education must include, because as I have read, technology is no
longer an option.
