There are 8 malesand 7 females.
Theyhave recently arrivedtothe UnitedStatesfromRussia.
The studentsspeak English.
The studentshave visual impairments.
These studentsare AuditoryandKinestheticlearnersdue totheirvisual impairment.
State Objectives
My studentswillidentifythe activitiesof the 4th
of Julyholidaybyeatingfoodsspecifictothe
holiday( hotdogs,hamburgers,apple pie,andwatermelon),identifyingthe colorsthroughtouch
( redis a heatingpack,blue isan ice pack and white isa cotton-ball),recognizingfireworks
througheatingpoprocks candy andlisteningtofireworksonYouTube andcomparing/
contrastingthe similaritiesanddifferencesbetween America’sIndependencedayandRussia
day by listeningtoapodcast fromboth celebrations.Theywill identifytheseactivitiesbythe
endof the weekwith98%accuracy.

The media chosenforthese studentsisayoutube.comvideosothatthe studentscanhear the

The materials are handwarmersto depictthe colorred, cotton ballstodepictthe color white
and an ice pack to depictthe colorblue. Othermaterialsinclude:hamburgers,apple pie,potato
salad,watermelon,andpop –rocks. ( to explainfireworks).

Teacheruse of material will be toprepare the foodsforthe studentstotaste,open upthe
youtube.comvideo,freeze the ice pack,activate the handwarmerandbringthe cotton balls.
2. The studentswill sample eachfooditemandlistentothe soundof fireworks.The studentswill
taste the pop rocks aftera brief overview of whatwill happenwhentheyputthe pop-rocksin
theirmouths.Thiswill symbolizewhatactionsafire workhas.
o To activate the lessonIwill askthe studentsaboutthe festivitiesinRussiaon“Russia
Day”. I will playapodcast fromthe celebrationsof bothcountries.Iwill askthe students
whattheynotice abouteach celebration. ThenIwill explainsome of the similarities
betweenthe 4th
of JulyandRussiaDay. Thenas a class we will compare andcontrast
bothcelebrations.
o Next,Iwill explainourfirstactivity.Iwill passoutthe foodsthatAmericanswouldhave
at a cookout on the 4th
of July.The studentswill samplethe hamburgers,apple pie,
potatosalad,and watermelon.We will discussthe student’slikesordislikes.The
studentswill compare orcontrastwhattheywouldeaton “RussiaDay”. Thentheywill
tell me whattheyprefertoeat inRussia.
o Afterthat,I will introduce the colorsof the UnitedStatesflagthroughtouch.First,I will
letthe studentstoucha hand warmer.Iwill explainthatitisthe colorred.Second,I will
have themtouch a cottonball that wouldrepresentthe colorwhite.Lastly,Iwill pass
arounda coldice pack that will representthe colorblue.Iwill tellthe studentsthat
those were the colorsonthe Americanflag.Then,Iwill passarounda ruler(stripes) and
a cut out of a star to explainwhatisonthe UnitedStatesflag.
o The nextactivitywill be toexplain4th
of Julyfireworks.Toexplainthisconcept Iwill
introduce whata fireworkdoesandthatit isa loudsound.ThenI will playavideothat
has the soundof fireworks.ThenIwill give the studentspop-rockcandywhichwillgive
theman ideaof how fireworkspopandcrackle inthe air.

The studentswill have the chance tobe involvedfromstartto finish.Theywill beginthe
lessonbybeingdiscussingthe similaritiesof the 4th
of Julyholidayand“RussiaDay”. Then
theywill have the optiontosample Americancookoutfood.Thentheywill use theirsense
of touchto associate feelingwithcolor.Afterthattheywill listentothe soundof fireworks
and experience the explosionof pop-rockcandyintheirmouths.
Evaluate
I will evaluate the lessonbywhetherornotthe studentsseemtoenjoywhattheyare doing.
I will see howtheyreactto the differentactivities. Iwill see if the soundsare easytohear
and if the videoworkswell enough.

learnedtosee if the lessonwasbeneficial tothe students.If notthenI will rearrange the
lessonaccordingly.
