A Reflection of my PLN
through out EDU 210

At the beginning of EDU 210, I created a
professional learning network on Twitter
with the username @chloe_argent.
Twitter is one of the most popular social
media sites on the web, however I had
never used it and felt confused by the
etiquette used on the site.

However, I soon embarked on my first stage of
building my PLN, and I decided to become fully
immersed in the site by adding the App on my cell
phone so I could check it regularly. I began
searching for people and resources I could “follow”
who would enhance my professional knowledge.
In order to become more comfortable with
the site, I reached out to my followers on
Twitter, and started experimenting with
Tweets.
The more I tweeted and used hashtags, the
more followers and comments I seemed to
acquire. Over time, I began to evaluate the
importance of those who I was following.
Some of those I was following seemed to add
relevant information and articles, while
others seemed to simply clog up my
Newsfeed.

As I added and deleted those I was following to gain a more productive
PLN, I started commenting on the articles and tweets of those I was
following. My favourite follower, Huff Post Education, posted articles
regularly that highlighted many issues and trends occurring in the
field of education. Although sometimes controversial, they got me
thinking about my own Philosophy of Teachnology and future
pedagogical approaches.
Future Employers and Volunteer Organizations
The ATA @albertateachers and ABC Headstart

Keeping up with the current events involving my future employer (The ATA) has
helped me keep up to date with all the changes in Education that impacts my
knowledge about employment opportunities in the future. Following organizations I
volunteer with also keeps me involved with the programs I care about as well as
updates me on other ways I can get involved.
My Classmates and Professors
Following my classmates and university professors makes me feel more
involved in my university experience. It is an easy way to connect with the
people I meet in my classes, and following my professors allows me to see their
tweets that are a great supplement to in-class learning.
As I became more comfortable using Twitter, I started to
engage in my PLN more by favoriting, commenting, and
retweeting several tweets.
In the End…
• In the end, I increased the number of pages I was following, but
not my followers by a whole lot. This is something I will have to
work on as my PLN grows through out my pre-service teaching
and teaching career!
To Tweet or not to Tweet…
At first I was skeptical of Twitter, but the more I used
it the more I liked it. It is an incredibly easy to use
form of social media, so pretty much anyone can use it.
The only thing I didn’t like was the 140 character
tweets. It was hard to keep my thoughts to a minimum,
and sometimes frustrating having to cut them down.
Otherwise, I am glad I chose twitter as my PLN. It’s way
faster and easier in my opinion to connect to the
resources and people I want as compared to other
social media sites. Also, it doesn’t require a whole lot of
personal info so it’s appropriate to use in the
classroom. Retrieved from

Chloe Argent's PLN Reflection

  • 1. A Reflection of my PLN through out EDU 210 By Chloe Argent
  • 2. At the beginning of EDU 210, I created a professional learning network on Twitter with the username @chloe_argent. Twitter is one of the most popular social media sites on the web, however I had never used it and felt confused by the etiquette used on the site.   • 3. However, I soon embarked on my first stage of building my PLN, and I decided to become fully immersed in the site by adding the App on my cell phone so I could check it regularly. I began searching for people and resources I could “follow” who would enhance my professional knowledge.
  • 4. In order to become more comfortable with the site, I reached out to my followers on Twitter, and started experimenting with Tweets. The more I tweeted and used hashtags, the more followers and comments I seemed to acquire. Over time, I began to evaluate the importance of those who I was following. Some of those I was following seemed to add relevant information and articles, while others seemed to simply clog up my Newsfeed.
  • 5. HuffpostPost Education @HuffPostEdu As I added and deleted those I was following to gain a more productive PLN, I started commenting on the articles and tweets of those I was following. My favourite follower, Huff Post Education, posted articles regularly that highlighted many issues and trends occurring in the field of education. Although sometimes controversial, they got me thinking about my own Philosophy of Teachnology and future pedagogical approaches.

  • 7. Future Employers and Volunteer Organizations The ATA @albertateachers and ABC Headstart @abcheadstart Keeping up with the current events involving my future employer (The ATA) has helped me keep up to date with all the changes in Education that impacts my knowledge about employment opportunities in the future. Following organizations I volunteer with also keeps me involved with the programs I care about as well as updates me on other ways I can get involved.
  • 8. My Classmates and Professors Following my classmates and university professors makes me feel more involved in my university experience. It is an easy way to connect with the people I meet in my classes, and following my professors allows me to see their tweets that are a great supplement to in-class learning.

  • 10. As I became more comfortable using Twitter, I started to engage in my PLN more by favoriting, commenting, and retweeting several tweets.
  • 11. In the End… • In the end, I increased the number of pages I was following, but not my followers by a whole lot. This is something I will have to work on as my PLN grows through out my pre-service teaching and teaching career!
  • 12. To Tweet or not to Tweet… At first I was skeptical of Twitter, but the more I used it the more I liked it. It is an incredibly easy to use form of social media, so pretty much anyone can use it. The only thing I didn’t like was the 140 character tweets. It was hard to keep my thoughts to a minimum, and sometimes frustrating having to cut them down. Otherwise, I am glad I chose twitter as my PLN. It’s way faster and easier in my opinion to connect to the resources and people I want as compared to other social media sites.
