R.K. Narayan was an Indian English writer best known for creating the fictional town of Malgudi. The story focuses on an astrologer who works under a tamarind tree in the town, using his experience to predict people's futures through clever guesswork despite not truly understanding astrology. While initially seeing a stranger as just another customer, the astrologer comes to realize he is the same man he attacked years ago while drunk. The astrologer and his family live in poverty as shown through his wife's plans to buy sweets for their daughter with the meager earnings.

● I feel a little upset to know about their pitiable economic
status.
● To get twelve and a half annas, the astrologer's wife
planned to buy Jaggery and coconut to prepare sweet for
their daughter.
● Their daughter was demanding sweets for a long time.
● This shows the obligation of the family where a single
daughters simple wish remained pending for a long time
due to the lack of money. 10
