Character education is helping students
become better members of society and of
the global community by helping them
develop morals, resolve conflicts, showcase
manners, and have respect for themselves
and others, among other characteristics.
It is important for students to get some form of
character education so they can become
stable, positive, and successful citizens of
the world.
 In the 21st century, character education is
becoming increasingly important due to the
need to communicate effectively and the
globalization of jobs and interactions.
 The need to have interpersonal relationships,
reason ethically, and do their parts as
respectable members of society all have
their roots in character education, and make
it that much more important.
 Videos—watch videos of situations and
discuss as a class to decide the ethical
decision to make in that given scenario
 You could also put these videos up on Facebook,
like we did in here, and have each student
respond with what they would do in that
situation.
 On a blog, wiki, etc., assign students to give
a compliment on a regular basis
 Once a week, every other day…
 Something they have seen classmates doing that
they like/approve of
 Create videos of scenarios or use digital
storytelling websites to create scenes in
which a situation occurs where the person
has to do the right thing
 Like “Pass It On—Values” commercials
 Create posters that showcase manners to use
inside or outside the classroom
 Similar to the inspirational posters you find
around schools
 Creating videos would be a fun way for the
students to show what they think character
education and being a “good person” is.
 Split into groups, give the students free reign or
give them specific parts of character education
(developing morals, civics, ethical reasoning,
conflict resolution, manners, interpersonal
relations, respect)
 Have them either shoot a video using provided
camera or create a story using a digital
storytelling site
 Create script, cast actors, work out problem
 Character education is very easy to integrate
into everyday lessons
 Students have opportunity to be creative and
come up with problems and solutions on
their own
 Can use pretty much any form of technology
to enforce character education
