2. What are prepositions??
They link the subject to the object.
He walked to the store.
They show concepts: time, place, direction, and manner.
The dishes are on the table.
They show a connection and/or relationship within the
sentence.
There are many fears held toward creepy crawlies.

3. Become familiar with them
Remember the common prepositions
Look for preposition that are NOT on this list, and keep
track of those as well.

4. Remember, a prepositional phrase…
Is a preposition and an object.
To the beach
Behind the counter at work
Toward the man and his wife
Can separate a subject and a verb
Students with written out goals are more likely to succeed.
Children in a candy store can go crazy.

5. In vs. On
Time:
Use IN before months with NO specific dates, with seasons, and
with years with NO specific dates.
Ex: In March, I will be buying a new car.
Ex: In the fall, Thomas is planning to travel.
Ex: Charlotte ran a marathon in 2009.
Use ON before days of the weeks, holidays, and months WITH
specific dates.
Ex: On Saturday, the women went to a parade.
Ex: We are having a picnic on Labor Day.
Ex: On February 7, 2011, Connie celebrated her birthday.

6. In vs. On
Place:
Use IN when referring to the inside of a place.
Ex: I was in the mall when you called.
Ex: Marcy left the remote in the kitchen.
Use ON when referring to the top of a place or when referring
to coming to a particular place.
Ex: Melissa put her keys on the counter
Ex: A new theater is opening on Rt. 3.
