Teddy Roosevelt took over the presidency after McKinley's assassination in 1901. As president from 1901-1909, he was the youngest president at 42 years old. Roosevelt established many progressive reforms known as the "Square Deal" which regulated large businesses and protected consumers and workers. Some key aspects of the Square Deal included trustbusting, railroad regulation, meat inspection laws, and the Pure Food and Drug Act.
