One fear I have towards aging as a woman is losing independence and needing assistance with daily tasks. However, this chapter discusses the importance of preventative care and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Engaging in regular exercise, intellectual stimulation, preventative screenings, and taking care of social and emotional needs can help support aging in place and reduce the likelihood of needing long-term care assistance as one ages. Aging is shaped not only by biology but also lifestyle, so making healthy choices over a lifetime can give women a degree of control over how they experience the later years.
