Rizal moves to Paris where an International Exposition is being held. His roommates are Captain Justo Trinidad, a former governor and refugee from Spanish tyranny, and Jose Albert, a young student from Manila. In his spare time, Rizal dines with the De Tavera family, which includes several physicians, artists, and the wife of Juan Luna. He befriends Edward Bousted, the son of a rich French businessman from Singapore who is married to a prominent family from Manila.
