This study evaluates the waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) as a predictive measure of 12-month all-cause mortality in patients with first-ever acute ischemic stroke (AIS) compared to body mass index (BMI). Findings indicate that WHtR is a superior indicator of adiposity and is associated with increased mortality rates when values are either too low or too high. The results imply that WHtR could serve as a modifiable risk factor in assessing the prognosis for AIS patients in the Mexican mestizo population.
