Essay Television Violence and Its Effects
Television Violence and Its Effects Violence on television is a primary cause of violence in real life
Teenagers my age are constantly being bombarded with so called parental warnings and film
certificates which intend to provide us with guidance on what we should and should not be
watching, if it be on the box or at the cinema. Politicians and social campaigners try to convince
us TV is bad for us, a device which corrodes the moral fabric of society and corrupts our children
with relentless images of violence . Is this a fair and accurate statement? Or merely an unfair and ...

This is where I believe the role of the parent should be more prominent. I believe that content on
TV cannot just cater for children and teenagers but for adults as well which is why such programs
are shown later at night. I believe it is the parent s responsibility to be able to control what their
children watch and politicians should be less forceful in blaming TV on a whole.
Though I believe I have clearly shown television does not constantly corrupt the airwaves with
relentless images of violence, can certain programmes cause us to become violent? I can again
confidently say that the answer is NO.
A unique study carried out around 1995 suggests that programmes do not affect our behaviour. The
study was published in the Observer on Sunday 29th of October 2000 and therefore implies it is a
reliable source of information.
1995 was the year that television would finally arrive on one of the most remote habited islands, St
Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean. Though the arrival of television caused mass excitement, there
was also concern that exposure to television would have an impact upon the islands children,
considered to be the best behaved in the world. Such an event provided the perfect opportunity

Employee Income Security Act
The Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) is a federal law that sets
minimum standards for most voluntarily established pension and health plans in private industry
to provide protection for individuals in these plans per the U. S. Department of Labor website.
ERISA makes it mandatory that if a person participates in a plan, the plan provider must make
known to the participant important details. This is the law that ensures that the plan provider is
abiding by the fiduciary laws. Plan providers must have a process in place for complaints or if
participants would like to appeal decisions made regarding their plan. Participants have the right to

Nature Vs Nurture In Criminal Behavior
Criminal behavior has always been a focus for psychologists for several years. When studying
criminal psychology, psychologists engage in many various kinds of investigation and
experimentation to try and find out why criminals commit offence. What is a criminal s motive and
what makes them commit a crime? Is it the responsibility of an individual s genetic makeup that
makes them a criminal or is it the environment in which they are raised and surrounded by that
determines their criminal behavior? Extensive research has been conducted regarding these
questions. Several conclusions have been generated from a number of twin studies, family studies,
adoption studies, and laboratory experiments. There are many conclusions that gear towards both...

Behaviorists argue that people are not born with a violent disposition; rather they learn to think
and act violently as a result of their everyday experiences (Bandura, 1977). Albert Bandura
(1977) states behavior is learned from the environment through the process of observational
learning. This popular behavioral notion is known as the social learning theory. Bandura
believes that humans are active information processors and think about the relationship between
their behavior and its consequences. Studies of family life, for example, show that aggressive
children often model the violent behaviors of their parents. In 1961, Bandura conducted the
famous bobo doll experiment in which children observed the people around them behaving in
various ways. The experiment involved exposing children to two different adult models; an
aggressive model and a non aggressive one. After observing the adults and their aggressive or
non aggressive behavior, the children were later allowed to play in a room with the Bobo doll by
themselves. When they played with the doll by themselves, alone in a room, they began to imitate
the actions they had previously observed by the adults. The children who had observed the adults
aggressively playing with the doll imitated a similar aggressive behavior while playing with the
doll alone. Those who observed the

Ralph Waldo Emerson Theory
Ralph Waldo Emerson was born on May 25, 1803, in Boston, Massachusetts to Ruth Haskins
Emerson and William Emerson, minister (Waldo, 1983). Emerson eventually grew up to also
become a leader in the Church. The social environment of Boston at the turn of the nineteenth
century would progressively be stamped by the conflict between its more seasoned conservation
values and the radical change developments and social optimists that were risen in the decades
leading through the 1840s. Emerson was one of five surviving children. Waldo, as Emerson was
called, entered Harvard at age fourteen, instructed in the summer, held tables, and with his brother
Edward, composed papers for other understudies to pay his costs. Graduating in the center of his
course, Emerson instructed in his brother William s school until 1825 when he entered the
Holiness School at Harvard (Waldo, 1983). Emerson also opened his own school in Chelmsford,
Massachusetts. The design of Emerson s mental life was molded in his early years. Ralph Waldo
Emersonbecame known as the voice of intellectual culture in the United States.
Emerson s early life also included preaching after being ordained in 1829 to serve the Old Second
Church until it no longer pleased him in 1831. The early death of his wife, Ellen Tucker, from
tuberculosis caused Emerson to give up on the church and resign in 1932. He began to engage in
altercations often with the church about Communion and public prayer. In one of his essays he

This Way For The Gas, Ladies And Gentlemen Essay
INTRO:Tadeusz Borowski is a polish poet and short story writer who grew up in a time during
the holocaust. He published most of his works for the underground press as they were brutally
honest from his personal experience. He struggled in search of good moral values despite his Nazi
occupation. In his short storyThis way for the gas, ladies and gentlemen was set in a concentration
camp in Auschwitz. The narrator was a polish prisoner who worked under Nazi rule, we can
assume it is based on Borowski s real life.
BODY 1: ABOUT LIFETadeusz Borowski was born in 1922 in a small town of Zhytomyr,
Ukraine. Both of his parents were sent to work elsewhere and his brother was in boarding
school. Leading his aunt to raise him. His parents and his brother returned in 1934. Despite his
families financial situations and the outbreak of WW2 he studied at secret gatherings and
passed all his high school exams. In 1940 he enrolled at an underground polish literature faculty
at Warsaw University and became one of their best students. Borowski also earned money as a
warehouser at a sale in Praga. He would soon meet the woman who would become his wife,
Maria at a monthly magazine meet(culture.pl). In 1942 he published his secret collection
Gdziekolwiek Ziemba (Wherever the Earth). He was arrested in 1943 and sent to Auschwitz to a
concentration camp then deported to a Dachau camp in Germany (britannica). Many polish men
were forced to work for the Nazi s, as Borowski was one. Immediately

Reflection Analysis
In 2017, it seems engagement in controversial discourse is the ultimate taboo. In fear of offending
others, youth avoid discussions of religion, political opinions, and economic problems altogether.
Or, in contrast, discussions of these topics turn hostile and have to be extinguished in the
classroom. The result of this problem is that many young people do not know what they truly
think about controversial topics, and a generation of apathetic thinkers that never go beyond the
mainstream media for their opinions is produced. A society without individual core beliefs and
values cannot function as a democratic republic. I think it is important for our society to be able
to discuss controversial topics because I think that, like Christ, we should meet others where they
are. Every day, I see people dismiss an idea simply because it does not fall in line with their
particular political partyor because the idea conflicts with the sentiments of the popular media.
Instead, if we hear out the challenging opinions of others, we can unravel ideologies of our own.
I also see people who avoid the news or political disputes at all costs because they do not want to
feel the debaters contention. I too dodged the nightly news and the following dinner table
deliberations until I attended Volunteer Girls State in June 2017. At Volunteer Girls State, I learned
how to be civically engaged in my community and how to be an effective leader. Throughout the
week, I participated as a Senator,

War Heroes History
For me, this answer is easy; I would not exist and I don t think we would either. Wars aren not
only fought by soldiers, but sometimes also by bankers. It is not the warriors who fight for our
freedom everyday, but by ordinary citizens with a warrior spirit. They are our neighbors, nurses,
night watchmen and news reporters who heard our nation s cry for help and stood up to answer
that call. Sisters, brothers, moms and dads to someone who love them very much as we all do.
They embody the fighting spirit inside all Americans in every home across our nation. When
asked to think of veterans, images of historical war heroes are often the first to flash into
someone s mind. So many know the history of Dan Daly, a famous Marine Sergeant who
endangered himself to save his wounded comrades and was recommended for the Medal of
Honor three separate times. There is Molly Pitcher and Patrick Henry, Ethan Allen and even
George Washington. One might even think of more contemporary heroes like Santiago Erevia,
Melvin Morris or most recently, USN Seal Edward Byers. All these heroes are famous for being
battle hardened generals and masters of the battlefield or commanders on the high seas. It is almost
universally agreed upon that these people are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My history textbooks give five clear cut reasons as to why America entered WWI, but it doesn t
catalogue the greatest reason of them all that ordinary americans responded to the call of duty to
fight for what they believe in. World War I and II was a harsh wakeup call for the American
public. Not only were the technologies of war advancing, the harsh realities of it were
broadcasted into the living rooms of ordinary families. Despite this, ordinary people like an
orphaned cotton picker from Texas named Audie Leon Murphy still joined the fray and we as a
nation learned that wars aren t won by nations, but by

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Goat Milk
COMPOSITION OF GOAT MILK Goat milk is made up of water, lipids, protein, carbohydrates,
minerals and vitamins. However, Guetouche et al,2014 states that the composition of milk varies
among breeds within the same species, and also from one dairy to the other, depending on the
period of lactation and diet. Therefore, there is slightly difference in composition among the
goat milk of different breeds. Roughly, goat milk is 88% water and 11.4% solids; it contains
3.2% fat and 8.13% of fat solids. It is also comprised of calcium (0.11%), phosphate (0.08%) and
magnesium (0.21%)(Guetouche et al,2014). LIPIDS Goat s milk derives many of its most
distinctive properties from its lipid fraction. The average total fat content in the milk is similar to
that found in other ruminant species, (Table 1) despite reports that the percentage of fat in goat s
milk exceeds that of the cow. Such a misconception is most likely derived from the fact that the
average percentage of milkfat, as with cow s milkfat, is a variable component, often ranging
between 3.0 and 6.0 percent. There are also district breed differences in fat composition. It should
be remembered, however, the quality and quantity of feeds, genetics season, stage of lactation, etc.
all influence the average percentage of goat milkfat. In California DHIA goat records... Show more

The lactose concentration is usually found to be lower than that found in cow s milk, but the
magnitude of the difference is hard to quantify because of the variation in methods of analysis
employed. A consensus has not been developed on whether to analyze for lactose in the non
hydrated form or the mono hydrated form, and this water of hydration is capable of introducing a
five percent variation in the reported concentration of the same actual amount of lactose. Efforts are
being taken to reduce this

Introduction Getting oneself out on the market is the most important part of getting a new job.
In order to do this, a person must market themselves. In order to properly market themselves, a
potential candidate has to know the resources in which to present themselves as good employee

After finishing the online application, I sent the HR Director my resume along with a cover

This company makes and sell Polyurethane Resins for use in plastic tubing and other
application that take plastic. I worked there as a temp several years ago and I enjoyed my time
there. They have a very good compensation package, benefits, the company does things for the
employees such as gives the employees yearly bonuses and every quarter each employee
receives a check from BFI for recycling. Just like with Ford, their online application is long and
you must know exactly what position it is you are looking for. I applied online and emailed my
resume to the Director of Human Resources. Mittal Steel is the third company on my list. I
already knew a little bit about this company because Mittal Steel in Cleveland, Ohio used to be
LTV Steel, and I was employed with LTV Steel for close to ten years. I enjoyed working in the

how the person visually looks like. Some eating disorders are caused by stress which eventually

While eating disorders may first appear to be solely about food and weight preoccupations ,
people suffering from eating disorders often try to use food and the control of food to cope with
feelings and emotions that may otherwise seem overwhelming ( Barbee J.G 2). Being able to
control something in their lives make them feel better, therefore, makes them feel less
discouraged. Those diagnosed mentally feel lonely, and assume that nobody can relate with
them. Depression is a way that many people cope with their eating disorders. Having an eating
disorder modifies the way others view each other. People now believe that what is shown on the
internet is the ideal body image for everybody. In reality the body type portrayed in advertising
as the ideal is possessed naturally by only 5% of American females ( Eating Disorder Statistics 1 ).
Our media s increased obsession with the thin ideal and industry promotion of a perfect body may
contribute to unrealistic body ideals in people with and without eating disorders. Success and worth

Housing Market Failure
The housing market crash of 2007 to 2009 is said to be one of the main reasons for the housing
market crash. The crisis occurred when homeowners were not able to make payments on their
mortgage. Homeowners were unable to keep up with payments when low introductory rates
converted to regular rates. Real estate property began to lose its value, leaving many homeowners
with a negative equity. Soon after the housing bubble the government took over (two GSEs) Fannie

Essay On The Doll Test
After Martin Luther King Jr. s assassination, white people did not understand what African
Americans had to go through during this time. The main issue was the disconnection between what
whites knew about the racism and what the black had experienced. The Doll Test implemented by
the two Doctors Kenneth and Mamie Clark were interviewing throughout this experience African
Americanchildren who could choose between four different types of skin colored dolls. The
alarming results were that the majority of children prefer to choose the white doll, which they
indicate as something good and positive. Dr. Kenneth Clark recalled: The Dolls Test was an
attempt on the part of my wife and me to study the development of the sense of self esteem in
children. We worked with Negro children I ll call black children to see the extent to which their

and so the chain continued in spreading racism. Elliott showed back in 1968 how simply you can

Moral Values of Silas Marner and Godfrey Cass Essay
Justice is the quality of being just as well as complying with the principle of righteousness and
also performing one s moral obligations (Oxford Dictionary). Moral values are important in Silas
Marner throughout the novel as those people who do good deeds are rewarded while those who
fail in their moral duties to others are punished. As George Eliotwas a religious person, she believed
in fate and providence as there was a higher being rewarding and punishing our conduct. This theme
is portrayed throughout the book and seen most prominently in the characters of Silas Marnerand
Godfrey Cass.

is well respected. He is referred to as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Silas Marner is the main protagonist in the book, although the reader is not given a good
impression at the start of the novel. He is full of greed and his only joy and pleasure is seeing
his precious gold. This can be backed up by the quote Silas lived in solitude, his guineas rising in
the iron pot (Chapter 2 page 19). His reaction when his gold is stolen is that of disbelief. It is as
if one of his family members has died. The quotes His heart leapt violently and His trembling
hand prove this. This incident is very ironic as people had accused him of stealing money but
now the tide had turned and now it was his money which had been stolen. The consequence of
the stolen money means that Silas opens up to the whole of the community. He starts to become
good friends with Dolly Winthrop, the wheelwright s wife. Chapter 12 sees the turning point of
Silas life. The readers are also introduced to Molly Farren, Godfrey Cass wife. Molly is addicted
to opium and this leads to her dying and, perhaps by coincidence, her baby arrives at Silas door.
At first, he thinks his gold has arrived but this gift is more important than his gold according to
him. Silas instantly becomes a better person when the child arrives at his door. He used to crave
his precious guineas but now he desires this baby. The thoughts and cravings he had for his gold
have now been replaced by this treasure . He says that She ll be my little un and nobody

Ceo Succession
CEO SUCCESSION: THE ULTIMATE MEASURE OF BOARD PERFORMANCE
by Clarke Murphy, The Corporate Board July/August 2010
Item number one on any description of corporate board duties is hiring and firing of a chief
executive. However, success in CEO selection depends in large part on shaping a sound
succession process from the board level. Shareholder advocates now see good CEO succession
planning as a reflection of the quality of the board itself.
Public debate regarding corporate governance issues tends to focus on one primary topic at a time,
depending on the dictates of current events. Classified boards, overboarding, director compensation,
risk management the attention of the corporate governance community has been focused on each ...

Because it centers on an event thought to be in the distant future and whose timing is ill defined, it
lacks urgency compared with day to day tasks. There is little perceived cost to putting it off.
The inclination to put it off is exacerbated by the Pandora s box of issues that rigorous succession
planning forces a board to confront. Identifying the competencies and experiences needed in the
next CEO requires solidifying the company s long term strategic plan, which often involves the
painful elimination of options.
Succession planning also shines a bright light on how well the organization develops internal
candidates (something explicitly called for in the Whole Foods shareholder proposal). The
development of internal candidates in turn requires careful human capital management. Failure here
can set off a horse race, or prompt the loss or demotivation of those executives who are not being
considered for the top slot, but are valuable to the company. It also demands the establishment of
consistent and objective benchmarking that includes not only internal candidates, but appropriate
external candidates as well.
Finally, successful succession planning demands the right attitude from the incumbent CEO. The
naming of a successor is viewed by some as a personal prerogative, by others as a threat. Because
succession planning is a tangible manifestation of the limited tenure of any CEO, it is

Brief history:
Burger King s first restaurant, originally called Insta Burger King, was opened on December 4,
1954 in a suburb of Miami, Florida by James McLamore and David Edgerton; both alumni of the
Cornell University School of Hotel Administration.
In 1967, after eight years of private operation, the Pillsbury Company acquired Burger King and its
parent company Burger King Corporation. At the time of the purchase, BK had grown to 274
restaurants in the United States.
When Burger King Corporation began franchising in 1967, it relied on a regional franchising
model where franchisees would purchase the right to open stores within a defined geographic
region. These franchise agreements granted BKC very little oversight control over its franchisees
and resulted in issues of product quality control, store image and design and operations procedures.
Burger King Egypt:
The opening of the first Burger KingВ® restaurant will took place during the second quarter of
2007 at Egypt s City Stars Mall, Cairo, one of the largest shopping malls in the region. A further

The Great White Fleet Analysis
One of the greatest contributors to Blue s success in fighting the plague was the U.S. Navy s
Great White Fleet. The fleet was set on a course to go around the world, with many stops along
the way. San Francisco was listed as a stop, but only if it was plague free. Blue warned if the city
couldn t guarantee it was plague free, there would be trouble. The fleet would be diverted to
Seattle (Chase 171). Having the fleet be diverted would be a major blow to the city of San

Importance Of Perseverance
Perseverance leads to success through ambition and endurance. Two great examples of people
who persevered in life are Ruth and Joni Eareckson Tada. Ruth, a godly woman, faced many
difficulties, but achieved her goal and God s favor with the help of perseverance. Joni Eareckson
Tada used perseverance to overcome the many obstacles she faced after suffering a tragic accident
that left her paralyzed. Both these women could have given up and walked away from the situations
they faced, but they decided to persevere, leading to triumph.
Everybody faces obstacles in life, whether they be small or big. How people react to the obstacles
placed in their lives is what builds people s character. This is where perseverance plays a key role
with the help of endurance and ambition. Perseverance is the ability to overcome obstacles even
when you feel failure is inevitable. It is running an extra mile when exhausted or staying up late in
order to finish a paper. Perseverance is the ability to overcome emotional, physical, and even
financial failure. It is never giving up even though the going gets tough.

being in a wheelchair when she said, In a way, I wish I could take to heaven my old, tattered
Everest and Jennings wheelchair. I would point to the empty seat and say, Lord, for decades I
was paralyzed in this chair. But it showed me how paralyzed You must have felt to be nailed to
Your Cross. My limitations taught me something about the limitations You endured when You laid
aside your robes of state and put on the indignity of human flesh. At that point, with my strong
and glorified body, I might sit in it, rub the armrests with my hands, look up at Jesus, and add,
The weaker I felt in this chair, the harder I leaned on You. And the harder I leaned, the more I
discovered how strong You are. Thank you, Jesus for learning obedience in your suffering...You

Comparing John Stuart Mill s The Subjection of Women and Florence Nightingale s Cassandra
For thousands of years, women have struggled under the domination of men. In a great many
societies around the world, men hold the power and women have to fight for their roles as equals
in these patriarchal societies. Florence Nightingale wrote about such a society in her piece,
Cassandra, and John Stuart Mill wrote further on the subject in his essay The Subjection of Women.
These two pieces explore the same basic idea, but there are differences as well. While they both
recognize its presence, Mill blames the subjection of women on custom, and Nightingale blames it
on society. These appear to be different arguments, but they may be more... Show more content on

He feels that because women have been in this position for so many years, it would feel irregular
to deviate from it. The subjection of women to men being a universal custom, any departure from
it quite naturally appears unnatural (Mill 1157). As he continues, he reveals his thoughts on the
matter to the reader: this relic of the past is discordant with the future, and must necessarily
disappear (Mill 1159). Mill explores many aspects of the issue. He attempts to uncover the
differences between the sexes to provide maybe another solution to the problem, but to no avail,
nothing final can be known (Mill 1162); nothing is as strongly stated as when he places the blame
on custom. Later in his essay, while exploring the systems of past societies, he comes to the same
conclusion as earlier. Only this time, he states that there has been some improvement in the system
as time went by; however, equality has not yet been reached. He believes that the small increase in
power over time is enough to suggest that equality is the solution: Through all...human history, the
condition of women has been approaching nearer to equality with men. This does not itself prove
that the assimilation must go on to complete equality; but it assuredly affords some presumption
that such is the case (Mill 1160). This quote is yet another contribution to the blame of custom. In
the past, societies lacked equality

Tetrahymena Lab Report
In order to test the rate of phagocytosis in tetrahymena, the tetrahymena need to ingest particles

India ink is deep black colored ink containing dispersed carbon particles. The trethymena treat the
India ink as if it were food and ingest it. There were three concentrations of India ink that were
fed to the eukaryotes The percent s that were used are: 1%, 5% and 10% of India ink. After
certain time intervals, the tetrahymena were fixed with a compound called 3% paraformaldehyde

Giovanni Falcone Research Paper
Analyse the impact Giovanni Falcone made against the Sicilian mafia:
Giovanni Falcone was born in Palermo, Sicily on May 18th, 1939. Falcone was born into a poor
neighbourhood. He grew up with children who would turn out to be Mafiosi in future as the area
of Sicily was flowing with mafia and ironically Falcone, being one of the largest figures to stand
against the mafia was also born where the original Sicily mafia was also first formed. Giovanni
Falcone went through school with good marks and after going through high school Falcone had a
brief history of learning at a naval academy before attending the University Of Palermo to study
law. Falcone graduated in 1961 and began to practice law, he then became a judge in 1966 on
the coast of Sicily that was heavily populated with Mafiosi. Falcone was shocked with the
brutality of the mafia and the belief of the people that the mob was invincible. Falcone believed
with hard work and thorough investigations that the mafia could be proven of their guilt. Giovanni
Falcone s early life of seeing the mafia first hand influenced him to stand against the mob and to

Physical Therapy Is The Health Profession
Physical therapy is the health profession that provides treatment and management of physical
disability, malfunction, or pain via various modalities, and without the use of medicines, surgery, or
radiation [1]. An individual who practices physical therapy is known as a physical therapist.
Physical therapists are experts of the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems, and they evaluate
and treat patients for issues that involve those systems [2]. The role of a physical therapist is to
evaluate patients, and to provide treatment to patients that focus primarily on movement. This
includes, but is not limited to, restoration of movement as well as improving movement, reducing
pain levels, returning function that may have been lost, and improving function.[2] The most
predominant clinical setting where physical therapists... provide care include hospitals, outpatient
clinics, private practices, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home health, school systems,
and sport centers [2]. Typically, to receive access to the services provided by a physical therapist,
a patient has to be referred to a physical therapist by a physician. [2] Therefore, physical therapyis
usually a secondary health care. The profession of physical therapysounds fantastic, because it is.
However, the art of physical therapy wasn t just born a perfect creature; it took some time to
develop as a great profession.

American Hustle is a movie that attempted to portray the Abscam Sting of 1978. This name was
given to an FBI operation that involved seven members of Congress. The FBI lured public

Orbital debris come from a variety of human activity in orbital space. One major source of orbital
debris comes from launched rockets and man made satellites[1]. When a rocket is launched, the
upper stage booster that gives a spacecraft its final boost into orbit is often left in orbit[2]. These
boosters may stay in orbit for decades and if there is still fuel remaining inside them they may
explode and create a cloud of debris[2]. One example was when a Chinese Long March 4
exploded on March 11, 2000 [3]. The payloads of the rocket often contribute greatly to the
amount of orbital debris as well. In 2009, two satellites smashed into each other and created a
cloud of debris with over a 1,000 pieces longer than 10 centimeters [4]. While collisions between
debris do not add to the total mass of debris in orbit, they do add to the number of smaller pieces
and increase the chances of further collisions in the future[4]. There were even cases where debris
was created from intentional destruction of satellites in order to test anti satellite weapons[5]. The
amount of debris is increasing with human activity in space.
The growing number of orbital debris inconveniences and even endangers future space missions.
Low mass particles often impact the solar panels of spacecraft in orbit[6]. This creates a

Media Gender Roles
Is our belief influenced by the Media
We are living in a world where your identity is influenced by the media. Media is involved in our
daily lives. Media has represented on what people think about topics, one of the most common ones
is gender roles. Media indicated their messages into our consciousness at every opportunity that it
had. Gender roles are a set of norms dictating the personality and actions of people based on their
biological sex or what they identify. Gender roles in media are used in delirious stereotypes can
cause self image in young adults, causing loss of confidence, mostly in women. Many authors had
expressed their opinion about gender roles in media through non fiction articles. For instance, Katty
Kay and Claire Shipman, who wrote, The Confidence Gap, confronts the lack of woman s
confidence impacting their performance. Another example is given by Cordelia Fine, who
wrote, Why Toys so Gendered? in which she says that gendered toy marketing doesn t create
gender stereotype, but it reinforces them. Lastly, Allison Lantagne, who wrote, Gender roles in
Media, says that is up to the individual to decide what type of role they are going to adopt. She
also includes that media reinforces social norms because the public accepts them. I agree with
Allison Lantagne says that the media has an influence on our beliefs and attitudes toward gender
because of its perfected image of genders, projects what a woman and a male should do, and what

Vte Case Studies
Treatment for non invasive VTE consists of three phases: initial phase, early maintenance phase and
long term secondary prevention phase (Figure 2). Low molecular weight heparin, unfractionated
heparin and fondaparinux are the keys of initial treatment for patients with DVT and PE. Heparin
act by binding to the natural anticoagulant antithrombin, thereby consequently increasing the
activation of thrombin by antithrombin and several others activated coagulation factors.
Unfractionated heparin (UFH) is an immediate anticoagulant for patients of VTE which are
clinically instable. Patients who might undergo advanced therapies for VTE such as fibrinolysis,
catheter based intervention and surgery is therefore preferred UFH. It is usually administered as an

Colin is an interesting character who starts off figuratively and literally closed away from the
rest of the world, but with help from new friends and love he was able to grow. The first example
of this is the symbol of something closed or covered used to represent Colin. This could be the
painting he covered, or most importantly the windows he had boarded up. Colin s windows
were boarded up so they sunlight couldn t come in, which represented his story arc perfectly.
Colin wasn t letting the literal or metaphorical sunlight into his life. However, the scene where
his friends Mary and Dickon rip off the boards and let the sunlight shine into his room was also
deeply symbolic. Showing that Colin could only let happiness into his life when he let
friendship bloom. The next example is when Colin states I shall live forever and ever and ever, I

everything that grows, and I shall never stop making Magic. This quote comes after the scene

Racial Disparities In America Essay
Introduction In today s society people are hurting and they are struggling to survive. The federal
minimum wage is $7.25, while each state within the United States provides its own minimum
wage. Low wages equals no healthcare, which in turn equal s to individuals being sick and not
being able to receive the help they need. Low wages also equals mass incarceration which in turn
equals to high crime. The high crime usually involves low income neighborhoods, which in more
than one way effects minorities.
The system has also privatized the school and prison system, which go hand in hand with the
economic reality of today. The racial disparities of today, was triggered by the downfall of the
economic system that is in place right now. Families are struggling and individuals are looking for
a way out. This paper will identify the realities African Americans face with the issue of economic
justice along in the United States.

The historical aspect of the civil rights movement was the tip of the iceberg of the social and
economic injustice of African Americans within the United States. From the 1900s to the late
1980s economic disparities existed between African Americans and other ethnicities. According to

Kierkegaard Vs Nietzsche
My research proposal consists in a parallel reading of Soren Kierkegaard s and Friedrich Nietzsche
s works, with a focus on the topic of Irony. In this respect, I aim to compare these authors
interpretation of the nature of Irony, and to show how they both do not see it as an expression of an
attitude of disengagement. Instead, these two thinkers see the ironist s attitude as that of the one
who sets out to disrupt our given for granted habits, having the purpose of deepening and
transforming our ethical and religious committments.
In reading Nietzsche and Kierkegaard this way, I am mostly grounding my interpretation in
Jonathan Lear s lectures on Irony and Ralph Harper s study of Existentialism. On one hand, I am
adopting Lear s view of Irony as connected to the cultivation of virtue and of human excellence;
Irony, is then the capacity of turning the faimiliar in the unfamiliar, as a part of the diffcult pursuit

Branch stated We are imposing amateurism on these students . I think this is very important
because it makes it clear what is really going on in the world of collegiate athletics. Athletes are
not given a choice, they are told what to do and how to do it; with no option to object. Before
some rules came into play really talented athletes went straight to the professional level without
going to college. Now athletes have to go to college for at least one year or so depending on the
sport they play. This in turn helps bring in the millions of dollars for the schools. So why can t the
athletes that make this all possible receive some form of compensation?
Yes, the athletes receive scholarship but this money isn t a fair trade with all that the

The Salary Inequities For The Female Employees Essay
Mike Honda once said, Equal pay isn t just a women s issues; when women get equal pay, their
family income rise and the whole family benefits (Honda, n.d.). Although more businesses are
supportive of closing the pay gap, it is still a problem in most established companies. There are
several reasons for the pay gap, yet in many cases it is thought that the main reason is because
women are less likely to negotiate their salary. Even if this is the case, companies need to be aware
of their employee s salaries to stay within their legal obligation. This is what Joe Black, the
president of Acme Manufacturing, has discovered within his organization.
Critical Factors
The central dilemma for this case with Acme Manufacturing is the salary inequities for the female
employees. There are concerns that these inequities were the result of gender discrimination based
on the information provided by the current HR director and her belief of how the previous
president felt about female employees at the company. Although this may be hearsay, the fact that
there are inequities and rumors, it is still grounds for concern and further investigation by HR. Joe
Black, the current President of the company, is looking for the best solution to resolve these
concerns. Based on the job evaluation study performed by a compensation consultant, there is a
concern that three female supervisors and the female HR director are underpaid relative to
comparable male salaried employees. Now that this

The No Child Left Behind Act Of 2001 ( Nclb )
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) is a United States Act of Congress that is a
reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which included Title I, the
government s flagship aid program for disadvantaged students. No Child Left behind was enacted
with the intent to become a government aid program for disadvantaged students, and eventually
raise the general educationstandards for the United States. This act was created with the idea to
close the achievement gap with accountability, flexibility, and choice, so that no child is left
behind (ESEA) to put most simply. The act serves to only require certain basic skills, but does
not have any national achievement standards, as it is decided on by each individual state. The
bill was signed into effect by George W. Bush in January of 2002. Many people, opposers and
supporters alike, argue that it is a one size fits all approach to education and teaching that puts too
much emphasis on testing and doesn t fund schools properly, making it nearly impossible to
achieve success. The law was initially designed to introduce national standards to a system in
which students in some demographic groups were more likely to succeed and others likely to be
left behind. But it allows states to determine how success is measured, which could be the source of
its downfall.
The problems with NCLB seem to be endless. The biggest, and most easily solved, is the lack of a
plan. NCLB was enacted with several goals:

Business Model Final
Business Model Final2 Business models have a huge impact on how an organizations operate. It is
crucial that an organization chose a business model before inception in order to succeed. Basically,
business models have become the new basis of competition, replacing product features and benefits
as the playing field on which companies emerge as dominant or laggards (Plantes, 2013).
The business model canvas is an excellent choice for businesses to use when starting a business. It
was created by Alex Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur. The Business Model Canvas, is a strategic
management and entrepreneurial tool and it allows you to describe, design, challenge, invent, and
pivot your business model (The Business Model Canvas, 2015).
From a business standpoint, the business model canvas is easy to use and it comes in different
forms of software. Start up businesses can use the model in a variety of ways. The business model
canvas can help them determine who their customer base will be and aid them in finding out how to
reach them. In today?s business world, competition is everywhere. A start up business must be able
to be competitive in order to succeed. Finally, a start up business must be able to understand the
competition and where they stack up against them.
A good example is a children?s clothing store. They must be able to understand what has made their
competitors like Carter?s and

Promoting Judo to Tier A Elite Sport in Hong Kong Essay
In recent years, in order to enhance the opportunities to win medals in international competitions,
the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) proposed Elite Sports to support athletes to reach an elite
level. However, only 16 sports events receive Tier A support from the Elite Training Program
operated by the HKSI with effect from April 2013. The EliteSports Committee rejected some
popular sports, for instance, Judo, soccer and basketball. The issue of whether Judo should be
included in Hong KongElite Sports (Tier A) has been discussed for several years among scholars
and universities in Hong Kong. Despite strong objection from HKSI, however, Judo should be

It clearly validates that elitism is not contradictory to popularization and windsurfing is a
favourable demonstration of the above. After the victory of Lee Lai Shan at the 1996 Atlanta
Centennial Olympics, Hong Kong government invested a considerable amount of resources in
windsurfing. Judo can absolutely follow the track of windsurfing since some marvellous Judo
players are performing outstandingly in the international competitions; for example, YU Kin Ting
captured a gold medal in Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games. Promoting judo to Tier A, therefore,
helps the promotion of Judo in the community in fact, which simultaneously indicates that the
elevation of Judo is an essential and compulsory element in the process of popularization and the
road of Judo for all .
Judo, in alternative vision, is a special sport that highly emphasizing the moral spirit in respond to
the argument that Judo, as a physical activity, should focus more on the other aspects brought on by
sports, such as, health status enhancement, socio cultural issues, including globalization and
institutionalization of judo, rather than trophies and winning. One can argue that judo elitism alone
is a catalyst of all the issues mentioned above, which is even more effective than other sport events.

Rhetorical Analysis Of The American Crisis By Thomas Paine
In the cold winter months of 1776, a group of colonial soldiers experience the perils of the
Revolutionary War. They had lost New York City to British troops in August, and 11,000 American
volunteers had given up the fight to return home to their families between September and
December. Morale is low, and the service contracts of George Washington s troops are about to
expire on December 31 (history.com, par. 1). Thomas Paines pamphlet, The American Crisis, puts
some fuel back in the fight. Paine s use of rhetorical devices helps him achieve his purpose of
encouraging laymen to join the fight and soldiers to continue the fight against Great Britain.
During a time of remorse among the colonial people, Thomas Paine uses connotative language ...

Tom Brady
Is Tom Brady really the G.O.A.T? Nobody thought they would be talking about Tom Brady going
down as the best Quarterback in football history. Brady has been in the league for 15 years and has
broken so many records and has some more to break. Brady also has a 172 51 win to lose record
which is 3rd of all time for a Quarterback, he also has a couple more years in the League. Tom
Bradyis the Quarterback for the New England Patriots. He has won four super bowls and has won
six AFC Championships. He is the only Quarterback to be picked in the 6th round and go on to
six super bowls and win four of the six. Brady has also went to the AFC Championship five
consecutive times NFL record, Brady is also the only Quarterback to win six AFC
Championships. Tom Brady has had the best NFL career for a Quarterback ever, being picked in
the 6th round many people did not believe he would be an amazing Quarterback like today. In

good reason some people would accuse Brady of being involved. After the season of 2015 16

do not think Brady will try to appeal this time, because he beat the court twice and what is the

Essay about Advice to Choose the Best Cleaning Company
When it comes to cleaning the floors in your home, there are a plethora of companies to choose
from. Most of them use the same technology. Many of them do a good job, but there are some
companies that would rather take your money than make you a raving fan. Here are five ways to
be sure you are working with the right carpetcleaning company.
1.Don t Select a Company Based on Their Cheap Ad Prices.
Often, people are lead to believe that they are going to get a quality job at an incredible discount
when they call the company whose coupon they clipped out of the Sunday paper. These ads are
nothing more than a gimmick to get the company through the door. Once they get in there, they
will use bait and switch tactics and try to convince you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A competent carpet cleaner is going to take you on a walkthrough of your own home where they
can discuss problem areas with you. They will discuss areas where their services should be able to
help, where they may not work. The carpet cleaner should meet the expectation that they
themselves set. If they do not meet the expectation, they need to return and take care of those
problem areas free of charge.
If they still cannot fix the area to the expectations they set, they should, without question, refund
your money.
4.Do Your Homework
Anyone can tell you anything you want to hear to get into your home. You can either take their word
for it, or you can ask them for references, client testimonials or businesses that are referring their
business out to other clients. Call the Better Business Bureau to find out if their business is in good
standing with the community. You can also check with local chambers of commerce and other
business organizations.
You do not have to just take their word for it. There are plenty of other carpet cleaning companies
to choose from.
5.Always Remember: Safety First
The carpets are usually going to be cleaned during the day when the breadwinner is at work. The
home will either be empty or only one spouse will be at home. It is of upmost importance that you
know that the company you are inviting into your residence does background checks and screens
their employees. You want to be sure your family is safe

Australian Dual Citizenship Essay
Australian dual nationals can travel to the US: Malcolm Turnbull
The article Australian dual nationals can travel to the US published on the 31st of January 2017 by
The Sydney Morning Herald, written by Tom Mrlloy and David Wroe, reflects how Australian
citizens with dual citizenship will not be affected by the US s contradicting immigration
prohibition. At the Parliament House, Canberra, Mr Turnbull stated that people with dual
citizenship are approved to visit the US, despite their beliefs or culture.
The main issue raised in this article was that Australian citizens which hold a dual citizenship are
not allowed to travel to the US. Mr Turnbull confirmed dual citizenship holders are safe to visit the
US with no harm or worry. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I never knew citizens from countries, such as, Pakistan, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey or Iran, loss
permission to travel to the US, conversely, owning an Australian citizenship. I found this very
unfair. I know those countries may have terrorist and dangerous people, but minority is like them,
they are still people, like us. In the future, I believe, I would like to support everyone from refugee
countries. I would like to take action helping the innocent people, who had nothing to do with the
bombing and terrorist attacks. Those five countries withdrawal of dual citizenship could become an
on going issue, affecting my community, as well as, I believe, nationally and internationally.
Family connection could be lost or interrupted, causing distress, anger, grief and etc., initiating
conflict on the planet. My suggestion to resolve this problem, would be considering or further
discussing possible prevention measures being overlooked to avoid the situation from escalating.
I believe, everyone in Australia should be treated fairly and have equal rights. I also support people
with dual citizenship and background from Pakistan, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey or Iran should be
treated the same as all Australian citizens, despite their race or background. I was disappointed with
the negative change of the US citizenship rights, as a young boy with a dual Iranian Australian

Causes Of Homeless Killings
When I was a little girl I used to host funerals for all the creatures that had passed away. I would
cry when plants died, or if I stepped on an ant. Once a tree fell on my mom s car and I insisted
that we cover it with flowers so that it would be honored properly. I felt a kinship to anything
that I deemed once alive. I had several pets growing up that touched my youthful heart, but as
they passed from this world to the next, they in turn broke it. Others felt no real life at all; babies
are stillborn, families are homeless, and people are murdered every day. There is only one life to
live and their chance was taken away from them. I felt that these innocent beings did not deserve
such a horrible fate as death. How could such pure souls be

Armenian Genocide Essay
The world becomes a better place when there is humanity. Humanity exists when there are people
who have the desire to give, instead of take. When these generous people give without the
expectation of taking back, the world automatically offers them the better. There was poverty in all
the villages of Armenia. Armenian Christians were continuously under attacks. The attacks against
Christian Armeniansoccurred throughout the year 1915. This is the age that is well known for the
Armenian Genocide, which was carried out by the Ottoman Turks. Escaping the Ottoman forces, my
grandmother, Sosek Boghosian, found herself as a refuge in Iraq. Horrific acts continued to be
committed to my grandmother s descendants.
Many people had no place to live or sleep. I have interviewed my grandmother to make myself more
educated about the Armenian Genocide. She contributed to the Armenian culture in many different
ways. Mrs. Boghosian studied about the genocide from her beloved mother. Following her mother s
footsteps, she became more generous day by day. She contributed to the Armenian Culture by
teaching her children and grandchildren how to help one another. This was followed by donating
food, clothes and shelter for the kids in orphanages. These unfortunate children lost their guardians
in the genocide, along with 1.5 million other deaths.
The Armenian people lived in a very safe environment until some obstacles beset them. When the
Turks were informed that the Armenians were living a

The Importance of Homework Essay
Students spend hours doing it, teachers spend hours checking it. Homework is sometimes a burden
to teachers and students but still it is necessary. Some people doubt homework s effectiveness, but
teachers and researchers agree homework is essential. Homework helps students get better grades in
school.
Some people don t know exactly what homework is. Homework is defined as an out of class
activity assigned to students as an extension or elaboration of classroom work(KidSource). There
are three types of homework teachers generally give out. The first is Practice assignments, they are
assignments that reinforce newly acquired skills or knowledge(KidSource). An example of these
assignments is writing definitions down for new words ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents, students, and teachers all sometimes wonder how useful is homework? Though studies
examining the relationship between homework and school achievement have been inclusive(ERIC).
Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades
in school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than
schools that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means that homework is working. Studies have
generally found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite
helpful(KidSource). Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in
student performance.
Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not
just a waste of time. The national PTA suggest that from K 3 grades there should be no more
than 20 minutes a day, for 4 6 grades there should be 20 40 minutes of homework, and from 7 12
grades time varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource). Anymore
than these recommended amount of times is seen excessive by the national PTA. Surprisingly
U.S. students are working as hard as Asians: 24% of eighth graders do more then two hour of
homework compared to Japans 28% and Germanys 17%(Brimelow108). Are we working to hard,
researchers don t think so, U.S. student grades are improving. As of 1996 one in every sixth grader

Compare And Contrast Essay On The Hobbit
The Hobbit was a novel which revolved around the Lord of the Rings trilogy. J. R. R. Tolkien
wrote this book as an aid to his PTSD. This novel was loosely based on the Medieval Times,
from the Anglo Saxon and Scandinavian works. The narrative followed around a group of people
on a quest to take the treasure of Smaug. There are many important components of each story.
These include its plot, themes, or setting. In this essay, I will be explaining the similarities and
differences between the three races of The Hobbit. The first topic of discussion will be the
comparison of the race s physical traits. These physical traits allow a reader to visualize
characters. It also gives the reader to make their own judgements of a race based on appearance.
In the terms of height, the hobbits and dwarves are shorter than an average human. The hobbits
... wear no shoes... thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads... (2, Ch. 1) This race also
loves peace, quiet, and a good tilled earth. The dwarves, however, are stocky and tough. An
average dwarf grows a long bread on their faces and wear heavy cloaks. Verification for this
account is, It was a dwarf with a blue beard tucked into a golden belt, very bright eyes under his
dark green hood. (7, Ch. 1). They are very strong from their continuous work in the mines.
Dwarves worked in mines and caverns to acquire the many gems needed for their crafting. The
dwarves also had experience in fighting wars with other races. Elves are a

Men and Women in British Literature Essay
The portrayal of men and women has varied in different stories throughout history. Many portray
women as beautiful, deceptive, manipulative, and smart, while men are portrayed as being strong,
masculine, and easily tricked. In many of the works covered in the course Major British Writers
to 1800, men are advised to refrain from acting lustful, believed that it would harm their overall
ability to succeed in whatever the characters aimed to do. An example of this is seen in Sir Gawain
and the Green Knightwhen Gawain is deceived by Lady Bertilak in an effort to prove that Sir
Gawain is imperfect. The depictions of men and women are very similar in Fantomina by Eliza
Haywood, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and Phyllis and Aristotle. .... Show more content on

While Sir Gawain was nearly beheaded as was Aristotle in their stories, the result of the deception
by Fantomina was an unplanned pregnancy. I feel that Haywood shows morality in this result
because, unlike other works, the man is not punished for being deceived, with the only real trouble
of Beauplaisir being that he knows of the existence of his child, which is an internal punishment
for his actions. Beauplaisir being unpunished and having his name remain untarnished while
Fantomina was sent to a monastery with her child is an example of how Haywood remained
consistent with the portrayal of other works in regards to male and female portrayal while also
distinguishing herself and her work from other works. The portrayal of women in Milton s Paradise
Lost is very different from the other works. While women are often seen as being deceitful,
devious, and smart, the depiction of Eve is different as she is seen as being dumber and more
inferior to Adam in all areas besides beauty. This portrayal of Eve assisted in the progression of
Paradise Lost as Eve ate the forbidden apple after being persuaded by Satan to eat the apple.
While the incident caused Adam to also disobey God, it created a bond between Adam and Evethat
was greater than before the incident when they were considered pure. The bond between Adam and
Eve that is improved through the learning of new emotions, trying new things, and the

Objectivism and The Fountainhead Essay
Objectivism and The Fountainhead
How should we live our lives? Do you live for others or for yourself? What do you deem to be
the ideal: selflessness, or selfishness? Why? Ayn Rand s novel The Fountainhead addresses these
issues and her philosophy behind it called Objectivism. Her rebellious rhetoric is to convince us
that the only true virtue is selfishness and that we should abide by its standards and live for
ourselves.
Ayn Rand was from the Soviet Union, and her background helps us to understand her rhetoric about
why she preached her philosophy. Born in Russia, and a hater of the revolution, Ayn Randdreamed
of America as an Eden of individualism. When she got there becoming first a Cecil B de Mille

The Objectivist states that this is the only world we can know. It is irrelevant if there is a
heaven, or a hell, or life elsewhere. We know what we do through our senses and reason. What we
perceive with our senses we know to be real (Garmong). Existence exists and the act of grasping
that statement implies two corollary axioms: that something exists which one perceive and that one
exists possessing consciousness, consciousness being the faculty of perceiving that which exists
(Rand qtd. by Peikoff 1)
The second point addresses the idea that thinking is the path to knowledge. The Objectivist rejects
the idea, stated by Plato, that all we know is that we know nothing. Emotions, feelings, and
premonitions are not concrete and therefore are rejected as sources of knowledge. Concrete
evidence dictates certainty thus rationalizing knowledge (Garmong). The third point is the ethics of
Objectivism: rational selfishness and the pursuit of our own happiness. We are the beneficiaries of
our own actions, and we shouldn t let others dictate our lives (Garmong). Thought requires
selfishness, the fundamental selfishness of a rational faculty that places nothing above the integrity
of its own function. A man cannot think if he places something anything above his perception of
reality (Rand qtd. by Peikoff 5). Politically and

The Tip Of The Tongue
Abstract
The tip of the tongue (or TOT) phenomenon is the inability to retrieve a specific word, while
typically knowing quite a lot of information about it. In recent years, experimental psychologists
interested in human memory have studied the TOT phenomenon in the hope of better
understanding why this mental process is interrupted as well as any useful techniques for
overcoming it. This paper describes two sets of experiments held at separate American universities.
The first set of experiments investigates which phonological components are capable of facilitating
word retrieval. The second assesses how often a group of subjects could retrieve rare target words
on the basis of their definition alone, while simultaneously comparing semantic and phonological
cues for the target words.
The Tip of the Tongue Phenomenon:
A Momentary Inability to Retrieve Words Stored in Our Memory
The tip of the tongue (or TOT) is an experience involving difficulty retrieving a specific word or
name, while knowing that it is stored in your memory. Individuals experiencing the TOT
phenomenon tend to recall one or more features of the target word, such as the number of
syllables it is comprised of, or its initial sound and letter. People in this state report feelings of
anguish and frustration when searching for the word, and a sense of relief when the word is finally
found. For example, in conversation or in writing you might have had the experience of trying, but
failing to

  • 2. Essay Television Violence and Its Effects Television Violence and Its Effects Violence on television is a primary cause of violence in real life Teenagers my age are constantly being bombarded with so called parental warnings and film certificates which intend to provide us with guidance on what we should and should not be watching, if it be on the box or at the cinema. Politicians and social campaigners try to convince us TV is bad for us, a device which corrodes the moral fabric of society and corrupts our children with relentless images of violence . Is this a fair and accurate statement? Or merely an unfair and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is where I believe the role of the parent should be more prominent. I believe that content on TV cannot just cater for children and teenagers but for adults as well which is why such programs are shown later at night. I believe it is the parent s responsibility to be able to control what their children watch and politicians should be less forceful in blaming TV on a whole. Though I believe I have clearly shown television does not constantly corrupt the airwaves with relentless images of violence, can certain programmes cause us to become violent? I can again confidently say that the answer is NO. A unique study carried out around 1995 suggests that programmes do not affect our behaviour. The study was published in the Observer on Sunday 29th of October 2000 and therefore implies it is a reliable source of information. 1995 was the year that television would finally arrive on one of the most remote habited islands, St Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean. Though the arrival of television caused mass excitement, there was also concern that exposure to television would have an impact upon the islands children, considered to be the best behaved in the world. Such an event provided the perfect opportunity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Nature Vs Nurture In Criminal Behavior Criminal behavior has always been a focus for psychologists for several years. When studying criminal psychology, psychologists engage in many various kinds of investigation and experimentation to try and find out why criminals commit offence. What is a criminal s motive and what makes them commit a crime? Is it the responsibility of an individual s genetic makeup that makes them a criminal or is it the environment in which they are raised and surrounded by that determines their criminal behavior? Extensive research has been conducted regarding these questions. Several conclusions have been generated from a number of twin studies, family studies, adoption studies, and laboratory experiments. Behaviorists argue that people are not born with a violent disposition; rather they learn to think and act violently as a result of their everyday experiences (Bandura, 1977). Albert Bandura (1977) states behavior is learned from the environment through the process of observational learning. This popular behavioral notion is known as the social learning theory. Bandura believes that humans are active information processors and think about the relationship between their behavior and its consequences. Studies of family life, for example, show that aggressive children often model the violent behaviors of their parents. In 1961, Bandura conducted the famous bobo doll experiment in which children observed the people around them behaving in various ways. The experiment involved exposing children to two different adult models; an aggressive model and a non aggressive one. After observing the adults and their aggressive or non aggressive behavior, the children were later allowed to play in a room with the Bobo doll by themselves. When they played with the doll by themselves, alone in a room, they began to imitate the actions they had previously observed by the adults. The children who had observed the adults aggressively playing with the doll imitated a similar aggressive behavior while playing with the doll alone. Those who observed the ... • 7. Ralph Waldo Emerson Theory Ralph Waldo Emerson was born on May 25, 1803, in Boston, Massachusetts to Ruth Haskins Emerson and William Emerson, minister (Waldo, 1983). Emerson eventually grew up to also become a leader in the Church. The social environment of Boston at the turn of the nineteenth century would progressively be stamped by the conflict between its more seasoned conservation values and the radical change developments and social optimists that were risen in the decades leading through the 1840s. Emerson was one of five surviving children. Waldo, as Emerson was called, entered Harvard at age fourteen, instructed in the summer, held tables, and with his brother Edward, composed papers for other understudies to pay his costs. Graduating in the center of his course, Emerson instructed in his brother William s school until 1825 when he entered the Holiness School at Harvard (Waldo, 1983). Emerson also opened his own school in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The design of Emerson s mental life was molded in his early years. Ralph Waldo Emersonbecame known as the voice of intellectual culture in the United States. Emerson s early life also included preaching after being ordained in 1829 to serve the Old Second Church until it no longer pleased him in 1831. The early death of his wife, Ellen Tucker, from tuberculosis caused Emerson to give up on the church and resign in 1932. He began to engage in altercations often with the church about Communion and public prayer. In one of his essays he wrote, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Reflection Analysis In 2017, it seems engagement in controversial discourse is the ultimate taboo. In fear of offending others, youth avoid discussions of religion, political opinions, and economic problems altogether. Or, in contrast, discussions of these topics turn hostile and have to be extinguished in the classroom. The result of this problem is that many young people do not know what they truly think about controversial topics, and a generation of apathetic thinkers that never go beyond the mainstream media for their opinions is produced. A society without individual core beliefs and values cannot function as a democratic republic. I think it is important for our society to be able to discuss controversial topics because I think that, like Christ, we should meet others where they are. Every day, I see people dismiss an idea simply because it does not fall in line with their particular political partyor because the idea conflicts with the sentiments of the popular media. Instead, if we hear out the challenging opinions of others, we can unravel ideologies of our own. I also see people who avoid the news or political disputes at all costs because they do not want to feel the debaters contention. I too dodged the nightly news and the following dinner table deliberations until I attended Volunteer Girls State in June 2017. At Volunteer Girls State, I learned how to be civically engaged in my community and how to be an effective leader. Throughout the week, I participated as a Senator, ... • 10. War Heroes History For me, this answer is easy; I would not exist and I don t think we would either. Wars aren not only fought by soldiers, but sometimes also by bankers. It is not the warriors who fight for our freedom everyday, but by ordinary citizens with a warrior spirit. They are our neighbors, nurses, night watchmen and news reporters who heard our nation s cry for help and stood up to answer that call. Sisters, brothers, moms and dads to someone who love them very much as we all do. They embody the fighting spirit inside all Americans in every home across our nation. When asked to think of veterans, images of historical war heroes are often the first to flash into someone s mind. So many know the history of Dan Daly, a famous Marine Sergeant who endangered himself to save his wounded comrades and was recommended for the Medal of Honor three separate times. There is Molly Pitcher and Patrick Henry, Ethan Allen and even George Washington. One might even think of more contemporary heroes like Santiago Erevia, Melvin Morris or most recently, USN Seal Edward Byers. All these heroes are famous for being battle hardened generals and masters of the battlefield or commanders on the high seas. It is almost universally agreed upon that these people are... My history textbooks give five clear cut reasons as to why America entered WWI, but it doesn t catalogue the greatest reason of them all that ordinary americans responded to the call of duty to fight for what they believe in. World War I and II was a harsh wakeup call for the American public. Not only were the technologies of war advancing, the harsh realities of it were broadcasted into the living rooms of ordinary families. Despite this, ordinary people like an orphaned cotton picker from Texas named Audie Leon Murphy still joined the fray and we as a nation learned that wars aren t won by nations, but by ... • 11. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Goat Milk COMPOSITION OF GOAT MILK Goat milk is made up of water, lipids, protein, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. However, Guetouche et al,2014 states that the composition of milk varies among breeds within the same species, and also from one dairy to the other, depending on the period of lactation and diet. Therefore, there is slightly difference in composition among the goat milk of different breeds. Roughly, goat milk is 88% water and 11.4% solids; it contains 3.2% fat and 8.13% of fat solids. It is also comprised of calcium (0.11%), phosphate (0.08%) and magnesium (0.21%)(Guetouche et al,2014). LIPIDS Goat s milk derives many of its most distinctive properties from its lipid fraction. The average total fat content in the milk is similar to that found in other ruminant species, (Table 1) despite reports that the percentage of fat in goat s milk exceeds that of the cow. Such a misconception is most likely derived from the fact that the average percentage of milkfat, as with cow s milkfat, is a variable component, often ranging between 3.0 and 6.0 percent. There are also district breed differences in fat composition. It should be remembered, however, the quality and quantity of feeds, genetics season, stage of lactation, etc. all influence the average percentage of goat milkfat. In California DHIA goat records... While eating disorders may first appear to be solely about food and weight preoccupations , people suffering from eating disorders often try to use food and the control of food to cope with feelings and emotions that may otherwise seem overwhelming ( Barbee J.G 2). Being able to control something in their lives make them feel better, therefore, makes them feel less discouraged. Those diagnosed mentally feel lonely, and assume that nobody can relate with them. Depression is a way that many people cope with their eating disorders. Having an eating disorder modifies the way others view each other. People now believe that what is shown on the internet is the ideal body image for everybody. In reality the body type portrayed in advertising as the ideal is possessed naturally by only 5% of American females ( Eating Disorder Statistics 1 ). The main issue was the disconnection between what whites knew about the racism and what the black had experienced. The Doll Test implemented by the two Doctors Kenneth and Mamie Clark were interviewing throughout this experience African Americanchildren who could choose between four different types of skin colored dolls. The alarming results were that the majority of children prefer to choose the white doll, which they indicate as something good and positive. Dr. Kenneth Clark recalled: The Dolls Test was an attempt on the part of my wife and me to study the development of the sense of self esteem in children. • 16. Moral Values of Silas Marner and Godfrey Cass Essay Justice is the quality of being just as well as complying with the principle of righteousness and also performing one s moral obligations (Oxford Dictionary). Moral values are important in Silas Marner throughout the novel as those people who do good deeds are rewarded while those who fail in their moral duties to others are punished. As George Eliotwas a religious person, she believed in fate and providence as there was a higher being rewarding and punishing our conduct. Silas Marner is the main protagonist in the book, although the reader is not given a good impression at the start of the novel. He is full of greed and his only joy and pleasure is seeing his precious gold. This can be backed up by the quote Silas lived in solitude, his guineas rising in the iron pot (Chapter 2 page 19). His reaction when his gold is stolen is that of disbelief. It is as if one of his family members has died. The quotes His heart leapt violently and His trembling hand prove this. This incident is very ironic as people had accused him of stealing money but now the tide had turned and now it was his money which had been stolen. The consequence of the stolen money means that Silas opens up to the whole of the community. He starts to become good friends with Dolly Winthrop, the wheelwright s wife. Chapter 12 sees the turning point of Silas life. The readers are also introduced to Molly Farren, Godfrey Cass wife. Molly is addicted to opium and this leads to her dying and, perhaps by coincidence, her baby arrives at Silas door. At first, he thinks his gold has arrived but this gift is more important than his gold according to him. Silas instantly becomes a better person when the child arrives at his door. Ceo Succession CEO SUCCESSION: THE ULTIMATE MEASURE OF BOARD PERFORMANCE by Clarke Murphy, The Corporate Board July/August 2010 Item number one on any description of corporate board duties is hiring and firing of a chief executive. However, success in CEO selection depends in large part on shaping a sound succession process from the board level. Shareholder advocates now see good CEO succession planning as a reflection of the quality of the board itself. Because it centers on an event thought to be in the distant future and whose timing is ill defined, it lacks urgency compared with day to day tasks. There is little perceived cost to putting it off. The inclination to put it off is exacerbated by the Pandora s box of issues that rigorous succession planning forces a board to confront. Identifying the competencies and experiences needed in the next CEO requires solidifying the company s long term strategic plan, which often involves the painful elimination of options. Succession planning also shines a bright light on how well the organization develops internal candidates (something explicitly called for in the Whole Foods shareholder proposal). The development of internal candidates in turn requires careful human capital management. Failure here can set off a horse race, or prompt the loss or demotivation of those executives who are not being considered for the top slot, but are valuable to the company. It also demands the establishment of consistent and objective benchmarking that includes not only internal candidates, but appropriate external candidates as well. Finally, successful succession planning demands the right attitude from the incumbent CEO. The naming of a successor is viewed by some as a personal prerogative, by others as a threat. Ruth, a godly woman, faced many difficulties, but achieved her goal and God s favor with the help of perseverance. Joni Eareckson Tada used perseverance to overcome the many obstacles she faced after suffering a tragic accident that left her paralyzed. Both these women could have given up and walked away from the situations they faced, but they decided to persevere, leading to triumph. Everybody faces obstacles in life, whether they be small or big. How people react to the obstacles placed in their lives is what builds people s character. This is where perseverance plays a key role with the help of endurance and ambition. Perseverance is the ability to overcome obstacles even when you feel failure is inevitable. It is running an extra mile when exhausted or staying up late in order to finish a paper. Perseverance is the ability to overcome emotional, physical, and even financial failure. Comparing John Stuart Mill s The Subjection of Women and Florence Nightingale s Cassandra For thousands of years, women have struggled under the domination of men. In a great many societies around the world, men hold the power and women have to fight for their roles as equals in these patriarchal societies. Florence Nightingale wrote about such a society in her piece, Cassandra, and John Stuart Mill wrote further on the subject in his essay The Subjection of Women. Mill explores many aspects of the issue. He attempts to uncover the differences between the sexes to provide maybe another solution to the problem, but to no avail, nothing final can be known (Mill 1162); nothing is as strongly stated as when he places the blame on custom. Later in his essay, while exploring the systems of past societies, he comes to the same conclusion as earlier. Only this time, he states that there has been some improvement in the system as time went by; however, equality has not yet been reached. He believes that the small increase in power over time is enough to suggest that equality is the solution: Through all...human history, the condition of women has been approaching nearer to equality with men. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Orbital debris come from a variety of human activity in orbital space. One major source of orbital debris comes from launched rockets and man made satellites[1]. When a rocket is launched, the upper stage booster that gives a spacecraft its final boost into orbit is often left in orbit[2]. These boosters may stay in orbit for decades and if there is still fuel remaining inside them they may explode and create a cloud of debris[2]. One example was when a Chinese Long March 4 exploded on March 11, 2000 [3]. The payloads of the rocket often contribute greatly to the amount of orbital debris as well. In 2009, two satellites smashed into each other and created a cloud of debris with over a 1,000 pieces longer than 10 centimeters [4]. While collisions between debris do not add to the total mass of debris in orbit, they do add to the number of smaller pieces and increase the chances of further collisions in the future[4]. There were even cases where debris was created from intentional destruction of satellites in order to test anti satellite weapons[5]. The amount of debris is increasing with human activity in space. I had the pleasure of seeing the play The Playboy of the Western World in the Alley Theatre on October the 9th. The theme of The Playboy of the Western World was social conventions, all of the character had a certain criteria on who was accepted by their community. The play sends a message of the things people will do to be accepted in their society. • 38. Kierkegaard Vs Nietzsche My research proposal consists in a parallel reading of Soren Kierkegaard s and Friedrich Nietzsche s works, with a focus on the topic of Irony. In this respect, I aim to compare these authors interpretation of the nature of Irony, and to show how they both do not see it as an expression of an attitude of disengagement. Instead, these two thinkers see the ironist s attitude as that of the one who sets out to disrupt our given for granted habits, having the purpose of deepening and transforming our ethical and religious committments. In reading Nietzsche and Kierkegaard this way, I am mostly grounding my interpretation in Jonathan Lear s lectures on Irony and Ralph Harper s study of Existentialism. On one hand, I am adopting Lear s view of Irony as connected to the cultivation of virtue and of human excellence; Irony, is then the capacity of turning the faimiliar in the unfamiliar, as a part of the diffcult pursuit of becoming human . Although more businesses are supportive of closing the pay gap, it is still a problem in most established companies. There are several reasons for the pay gap, yet in many cases it is thought that the main reason is because women are less likely to negotiate their salary. Even if this is the case, companies need to be aware of their employee s salaries to stay within their legal obligation. This is what Joe Black, the president of Acme Manufacturing, has discovered within his organization. Critical Factors The central dilemma for this case with Acme Manufacturing is the salary inequities for the female employees. There are concerns that these inequities were the result of gender discrimination based on the information provided by the current HR director and her belief of how the previous president felt about female employees at the company. Although this may be hearsay, the fact that there are inequities and rumors, it is still grounds for concern and further investigation by HR. No Child Left behind was enacted with the intent to become a government aid program for disadvantaged students, and eventually raise the general educationstandards for the United States. This act was created with the idea to close the achievement gap with accountability, flexibility, and choice, so that no child is left behind (ESEA) to put most simply. The act serves to only require certain basic skills, but does not have any national achievement standards, as it is decided on by each individual state. The bill was signed into effect by George W. Bush in January of 2002. Many people, opposers and supporters alike, argue that it is a one size fits all approach to education and teaching that puts too much emphasis on testing and doesn t fund schools properly, making it nearly impossible to achieve success. The law was initially designed to introduce national standards to a system in which students in some demographic groups were more likely to succeed and others likely to be left behind. Many portray women as beautiful, deceptive, manipulative, and smart, while men are portrayed as being strong, masculine, and easily tricked. In many of the works covered in the course Major British Writers to 1800, men are advised to refrain from acting lustful, believed that it would harm their overall ability to succeed in whatever the characters aimed to do. An example of this is seen in Sir Gawain and the Green Knightwhen Gawain is deceived by Lady Bertilak in an effort to prove that Sir Gawain is imperfect. Beauplaisir being unpunished and having his name remain untarnished while Fantomina was sent to a monastery with her child is an example of how Haywood remained consistent with the portrayal of other works in regards to male and female portrayal while also distinguishing herself and her work from other works. In recent years, experimental psychologists interested in human memory have studied the TOT phenomenon in the hope of better understanding why this mental process is interrupted as well as any useful techniques for overcoming it. This paper describes two sets of experiments held at separate American universities.
