SXSW 2013 Film - The Future of The Soundtrackamanda_krieg
A decade ago every major film was accompanied with a soundtrack release. In the age of digital singles however, the belief that the soundtrack is dead has taken root and affected both the filmmaking and music communities. With less money to be made from records in general, more and more producers and studios hesitate to consider music as an ancillary revenue stream. But with soundtracks for films like "The Hunger Games," "Twilight" and even "Project X" topping the charts, and the advent of technology such as Spotify, 8tracks, ex.fm and many others...is the soundtrack really dead, or do filmmakers and executives just need a new perspective?

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

CD sales
1. CD Sales
How the sales of CD’s have changed in the last five years
2. Pre-Digital Downloading
• Before time of digital downloads music industry was based off of CD sales.
• In 2000, 37 billion United States dollars where made from CD and record sales.
• Since then, file sharing and downloading has greatly increased due to faster
technology.
• Because of this CD and physical sales have vastly decreased, resulting in that
particular section of the industry to fade away substantially.
• People who want a specific album but do not have the money may go to sites
such as ‘YouTube converter’ or ‘Pirate Bay’ to download the album or song for
free.
• This causes artists to rely heavier on the sales of concerts which is why they go on
multiple tours a year.
5. ITunes
• Artists who sell physical copies of their CD/ Album gain 100% of the profit.
• In contrast, artists who sell their work from iTunes loose a considerable
amount profit for each song the sell.
• To break down and give an example of how much an artist truly makes
from iTunes we are going to say an artist is selling their song for $9.99.
• The artist will only be making 94 cents of profit. The record company
apprehends $5.35 and iTunes takes the remaining $3.70.
• iTunes is a company who unfortunately rip there customers off and profit
large while giving minimal support to its clients and artists.
6. Spotify
• Music streaming sites are platforms such as Spotify where the public
may access an incredible amount of music in an inexpensive way.
• Artists who have their music on these platforms could be insanely
popular and incredible fan base but it would still require there music
to be played 4,053,110 times on Spotify for an artist to profit
minimum wage.
• Realistically artists do not really profit from streaming sites.
7. How present artists make money
• Performers in the music industry make the majority of their money from
concerts, tours, and royalties.
• Many artists who have reached stardom create their own record label in
order to cut out the middle man.
• Once an artists has created their own record label they proceed to gain
practically 100% accepting the commission various hosting platforms take.
• Popular artists such Jay Z and Kanye West can profit an acceptable $1.5
million per concert.
• Even less popular artists can profit $10,000 as long as they have a decent
fan base attending their concerts.
