2. Problem or Opportunity
A problem our team has noticed is the absence of a consistent source of podcasts.
Podcasts are similar to video, but are only audio. This particular medium is used for
not only educational purposes, by is also a means to express oneself and to entertain.
Though other podcast platforms exist, there isn’t one single, universal method to obtain
and create podcasts.
We’d like to resolve these issues with one, universal podcast streaming service.
Our service would include an app and a website so that listeners can listen on all their
devices and enjoy the amazing content that users have uploaded.

to attract even half of these we could form an extremely strong presence in the world

4. Solution
We’ve seen an tremendous opportunity to universalize the podcast experience
through our podcast platform, Castable. Castable is a podcast listening and creation
platform with an straightforward user interface. Not only that, but Castable is a
completely universal platform and will be available on all devices. To accomplish this,
Castable will have a mobile app and a website. This ensures that people can listen to
their podcasts whenever and wherever they’d like. Similar to the video platform,
YouTube, we intend for Castable to become a distinct community for people who
develop and listen to podcasts.

6. Customer
Podcasts are a notable new medium for people to express, entertain, and teach
others and themselves. However, there isn’t one reliable, universal source of podcasts.
This is where Castable comes in. Our idea is to create a new and reliable source for
podcasts. Unlike other podcast platforms, Castable is a universal podcast platform
available on all devices. We believe that Castable will completely revolutionize the way
people will listen to podcasts.
Our main target demographic is young people, especially those interested in
technology and media. These individuals are exactly the kind of people who are going to
want and use our product. We believe that we could create an amazing community of
these people through their podcasts.

9. Prototype
Our prototype is a rough draft version of the Castable app. As we actually come to
develop the app, we’d like to tighten up the design a bit by establishing a better flow
between the content. We’d also like to establish a more distinct color scheme and logo
to make the Castable brand more recognizable. The screens of the app we choose to
highlight are the home screen, the explore screen, and the user channel screen. Though
there are many more screens (i.e. history, playlists, saved), these are the ones we
choose to display. The next few slides explains each screen in more detail.
10. Home Screen
This is a basic version of what the Castable app home screen might look like. At
the top of the screen is the Castable logo, a search bar, a user icon, and a settings
button. When clicked, the user icon redirects the user to their profile and the settings
icon redirects to the settings. These three aspects are always shown on every screen, but
not every prototype shows it. To the left of the screen is the collapsable menu. In the
next few screens, the menu is not shown. This menu features a home button, a history
button, a subscriptions button, a ‘saved’ button, a playlists button, and an explore
button.
The home button redirects the user to the home menu if they’re not already on
it. The history button shows the user’s podcast listening history. The subscriptions
button shows the podcasts and people the user has subscribed to in addition to their
subscriptions’ most recent uploads. The saved button takes the user to the list of their
saved items. In short, the saved function allows a user to save a podcast for later without
actually having to listen to or subscribe to it just yet. The playlists button shows the
user’s playlists. A user can create a custom playlist or import other users’ playlists to
their own list. Lastly, the explore button takes the user to the explore screen shown next.
The other aspect of the Castable home screen is the suggested podcasts. When a
user first logs in, Castable will show them the current and trending podcasts, the most
recently uploaded podcasts, and podcasts suggested for them based on their interests.
Each section displays two podcasts where and a ‘play’ or ‘save’ button with each one.
There is also a ‘see more’ button the user can push to see more podcasts under each
section.
11. Explore Screen
This screen shows the explore screen. This
screen is reached by pressing the ‘explore’ button
on the menu. The explore screen is a way for users
to find more podcasts. The explore screen features
many buttons each with a topic and design behind
it. When a button is clicked, it redirects the user
to a new screen containing many podcasts of a
specific topic. These 9 buttons are just a few
examples of what might be popular topics for a
podcast. The ‘see more’ button at the bottom will
show more topic buttons.
There is also a home button at the top of the
screen, though the home screen can still be
reached through the menu.
12. User Channel Screen
This screen shows a user’s podcast channel. At the top of a
user’s channel is their username with a banner behind it. This
banner can be customized to the user’s liking. On the prototype,
we’ve displayed a simple rainbow design. At the bottom right of
the banner is a subscribe button. When clicked, this button
subscribes a user to the entire channel and will from now on make
the channel show up in their subscriptions. Below the banner is a
list of the creator’s different series. A creator can create different
series depending on their podcast’s topic. Up to 2 series are
showed, and the remainder must be scrolled to be visible. A basic
shadow effect is used to show a user that there are, in fact, more
series. Next to the series name is a button to show more functions.
When clicked, the user is given more choices to subscribe to the
specific series (but not the entire channel), save the series, and
listen to the series from the beginning. Also shown is the creator’s
most viewed series and most recent uploads. Though it is not
shown, each episode would also have a play button and a save
button.
13. We are a squad of aspiring teenagers from Skyridge High School in Lehi. We are
aiming for the $5,000 prize to help make our ideas real. We aren’t afraid to work our
butts off in order to achieve this goal. We know that we have some stellar ideas and are
excited to pitch them to you. We work great together by having a variety of skills that
function together. Thank you for considering us to be selected for the final event.
