Purpose of the product
I am going to create a music streaming and sharing app/website named Sound
Owl. The app will allow users to stream music and share clips of the song or the
entire song with friends, through the app or through other apps or websites. This
allows music to be shared instantly amongst friends as links are shared, so all it
takes is a click of a button. This also means that our user amount will gradually
increase due to word of mouth. Users can upload their own music, but will have
to pay for this feature.
This is an app/website for the people who don’t want to pay monthly
subscriptions. The app will be completely free to use, however will run ads. These
ads will be the source of revenue, users can also pay to remove advertisements if
they really want to. In many aspects, it is similar to streaming services such as
Spotify and Apple music, with additional features that it make it more of a social
network than a music streaming service.
As anyone can get the application, it will connect the music community and help
people find new kinds of music that they may not have listened to before.

App names
Target audience
Reload- I chose name of one of the
apps/websites. I chose this name as users will
be reloading with all the latest news in the
music industry.
The logo of the app will only be seen on the app store and
on the sign up page. This is because users may dis like it if
the logo is literally everywhere. I will have the name of the
app at the top of the page all the time so whenever a
screenshot of the app is shared, people will know what to
search in order to find it.
I would update the app on a regular basis as
there are always ways to improve. Most
updates will be just for maintenance, but
other updates will bring new features, which
makes the users happy and may bring in new
users.
Type of content
This app will be used for the general
public to stream and share music
with anyone on they have contact
details for.
Sound Owl- I chose this name for
another app or website that will more
so focus on audio and not other media.
I chose an Owl in particular to represent
the app as Owls have very good
hearing.
The app will be mainly targeted at ages 12-40.
This is because anyone can make an account,
therefor there will be content for everybody,
meaning I am able to aim for a very large target
audience. It is a free app with no paid
subscriptions, therefor it is easily accessible for
everyone. However, people in the older
generation may want to stick with their current
music app and not make a change
Target audience
The app will be mainly targeted at ages 12-40. This is because anyone
can make an account, therefor there will be content for everybody,
meaning I am able to aim for a very large target audience. It is a free
app with no paid subscriptions, therefor it is easily accessible for
everyone. However, people in the older generation may want to stick
with their current music app and not make a change.
According to Katz Uses and Gratifications theory, users will experience
personal identification with our app as they will refer to it in everyday
life and use it to express themselves to other users. The app will also
inform and educate users with new music that has been shared by
others.
The app will cater to the socio-economic needs of people in Middle
class (B) and lower working class (C1), this is because the app is free
with no subscription, so it is a good alternative to Spotify for example
as it is accessible for everybody everywhere.
Target audience continued
According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs my app will cater to
the psychological needs. The app will give a feeling of
belongingness and love needs to some users, as they are
surrounding themselves with people with similar interests and a
love for music. Second to this, as the app allows you to upload
your own music, it can fill the esteem needs of users as they may
feel accomplished after they see people listening to their music.
According to Hartley’s Theory, the general target age range for
my app is 12-40. This is because anyone can make an account,
therefor there will be content for everybody, meaning I am able
to aim for a very large target. Secondly, all genres of music are on
the app, so there is something for everyone. Therefor I am able
to target a large age range.
App Functionality
Sound Owl is a music streaming and sharing app/website. The app will allow
users to stream music and share clips of the song or the entire song with
friends, through the app or through other apps. This allows music to be
shared instantly amongst friends as links are shared, so all it takes is a click of
a button, there will be a drop down menu so the user can select how they
want to share the music. This also means that our user amount will gradually
increase due to word of mouth. Users can upload their own music, but will
have to pay for this feature.
This is an app for the people who don’t want to pay monthly subscriptions.
The app will be completely free to use, however will run advertisements.
These ads will be the source of revenue, users can also pay to remove
advertisements if they really want to. In many aspects, it is similar to
streaming services such as Spotify and Apple music, with additional features
that it make it more of a social network than a music streaming service.
Production PlanMonday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday
On the first day
of production, I
need to get
together a
qualified team
of app designers
in order to start
the process of
creating an app.
As this is a
fresh idea in
the
application
market, I
need the
staff to sign
an NDA in
order to
safeguard
my ideas.
Other
aspects need
to be
considered
here also
such as how
much the
team are
getting paid
After the team
has been
assembled and
contracts have
been signed, we
need to start
Wire-framing.
This is the visual
creation of what
each page will
include. This is
vital in the
project and gives
a mutual
understanding of
what needs to go
into the app.

Expected Revenue and How it will be made
The main source of income for my app will be through the advertisements.
Some income will come from content creators who want to upload their own
music to the app for £0.99. There is an option to remove ads for £2.99 if
some users want ads removed. In order to make enough money from
advertising, we need as many users as possible. The more users on our app,
the more we get from advertising companies. The overall profit from this will
be enough to keep the app running. As time progresses and more users join,
higher profits will be made which can be used for further development. The
reason I have not chosen a subscription service is because I want this app to
be accessible to literally everyone, with no monthly payment being needed.
Most of the advertisements will be targeted at the younger audience (14-21),
as I feel that they will take up the majority of my user base. So for example
companies such as Nike, Adidas, Off-white and Beats by dre.
Legal and ethical issues
Legal issues
Opening meetings act- the policy behind open meeting laws are that any decisions made by the
government and legislation should be made openly and not in secret. Therefor the general public
can be fully informed regarding decision making bodies. However, communications that take
place over social media have potential to not follow this act. For example, friending, tweeting and
messaging via social media is widely considered informal, therefor a meeting can be constituted
under most open meeting law regimes.
Discrimination- as the majority of the world have access to the internet, you need to be very
careful in order not to discriminate against anyone. This is because if we discriminated against
anyone, it is likely that we would face sever legal issues.
Copyright- it is necessary to be cautious of what you post on social media to avoid any potential
copyright charges. If something copyrighted is posted, the poster should make sure they obtain a
physical record of the copyright licenses.
Privacy- the majority of social media platforms give the user control over their own privacy. Even
though the majority of privacy concerns apply to individuals, users who are public should be just
as careful as everything posted online stays online forever, even if you delete it there is a likely
copy.

Guidelines and Conditions
The world Wide Web Consortium (W3C) established the standards for interoperating web based
content. This has been done through releasing any browsers that do not follow these standards at
all time, browser makers are effecting Web developers, users and businesses. When there is a
lack of support for these standards, using and developing web based technology become difficult
and expensive. The main goal is to support the core standards and encourage browser makers to
also abide by these standards. This would ensure simple and affordable access to web based
technology for everyone.
https://archive.webstandards.org/mission.html
Terms and conditions are used in order to help everyone understand their rights and or
obligations. This allows the parties to focus their energy on agreeing the specifics of an order.
Terms and conditions also provide comfort for the user as the terms are compliable for the
majority of the user base. By having terms and conditions, you are much safer legally as the users
have agreed to the terms and conditions.

The flow of pages represent how you will be able to access each feature of the app.
Due to the app having so many features, I can not make the design and flow of
pages too complicated. Therefor the apps features will be separated into categories
in order to keep organization and a professional feel about the app.
Revenue of app
The main revenue of the app will come from advertisements. Company's will
pay for us to run their ad in order to reach out to our users with related
products. For example, all though the app is aimed at ages 12-40, the
advertisements will predominantly be aimed at people aged 14-21 as they
will make up the majority of the user base and will be more likely to buy
something online than someone over the age of 40 who may prefer to go to
the shop and make the purchase in person.
I have chosen to run advertisements on my app as the main source of
revenue as it has minimal effect on the apps function and we can tailor the ad
specifically to a user by using cookies, this increases the likelihood that the
user will open the advertisement, which gives us revenue.
Many successful social media’s business models are running ads. For example,
three of the most popular social media platforms, Facebook, Instagram and
Twitter all run ads, that is how they remain free.
Conclusion
In conclusion, throughout this LO3, I have identified some of the main aspects
of creating an app. For example how we will make revenue, legal issues and
the apps flow of pages. Overall, this LO ha been focused on how the app will
be made and all other factors that I need to take into account to make my app
earn as high revenue as possible and avoid legal issues by including terms and
conditions. I have also looked at ethical issues in order to avoid offending
anyone or being unethical as that would reflect badly on the business. This is
so that all legal issues are avoided and we do not commit any copyright
infringes so that no one in our team gets jail time or their reputation ruined.

Unit 35 Lo3

  • 1.
  • 2. Purpose of the product I am going to create a music streaming and sharing app/website named Sound Owl. The app will allow users to stream music and share clips of the song or the entire song with friends, through the app or through other apps or websites. This allows music to be shared instantly amongst friends as links are shared, so all it takes is a click of a button. This also means that our user amount will gradually increase due to word of mouth. Users can upload their own music, but will have to pay for this feature. This is an app/website for the people who don’t want to pay monthly subscriptions. The app will be completely free to use, however will run ads. These ads will be the source of revenue, users can also pay to remove advertisements if they really want to. In many aspects, it is similar to streaming services such as Spotify and Apple music, with additional features that it make it more of a social network than a music streaming service. As anyone can get the application, it will connect the music community and help people find new kinds of music that they may not have listened to before.
  • 3. Content Social Media app ideas Colour scheme Frequency Brand identity App names Target audience Reload- I chose name of one of the apps/websites. I chose this name as users will be reloading with all the latest news in the music industry. The logo of the app will only be seen on the app store and on the sign up page. This is because users may dis like it if the logo is literally everywhere. I will have the name of the app at the top of the page all the time so whenever a screenshot of the app is shared, people will know what to search in order to find it. I would update the app on a regular basis as there are always ways to improve. Most updates will be just for maintenance, but other updates will bring new features, which makes the users happy and may bring in new users. Type of content This app will be used for the general public to stream and share music with anyone on they have contact details for. Sound Owl- I chose this name for another app or website that will more so focus on audio and not other media. I chose an Owl in particular to represent the app as Owls have very good hearing. The app will be mainly targeted at ages 12-40. This is because anyone can make an account, therefor there will be content for everybody, meaning I am able to aim for a very large target audience. It is a free app with no paid subscriptions, therefor it is easily accessible for everyone. However, people in the older generation may want to stick with their current music app and not make a change
  • 4. Target audience The app will be mainly targeted at ages 12-40. This is because anyone can make an account, therefor there will be content for everybody, meaning I am able to aim for a very large target audience. It is a free app with no paid subscriptions, therefor it is easily accessible for everyone. However, people in the older generation may want to stick with their current music app and not make a change. According to Katz Uses and Gratifications theory, users will experience personal identification with our app as they will refer to it in everyday life and use it to express themselves to other users. The app will also inform and educate users with new music that has been shared by others. The app will cater to the socio-economic needs of people in Middle class (B) and lower working class (C1), this is because the app is free with no subscription, so it is a good alternative to Spotify for example as it is accessible for everybody everywhere.
  • 5. Target audience continued According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs my app will cater to the psychological needs. The app will give a feeling of belongingness and love needs to some users, as they are surrounding themselves with people with similar interests and a love for music. Second to this, as the app allows you to upload your own music, it can fill the esteem needs of users as they may feel accomplished after they see people listening to their music. According to Hartley’s Theory, the general target age range for my app is 12-40. This is because anyone can make an account, therefor there will be content for everybody, meaning I am able to aim for a very large target. Secondly, all genres of music are on the app, so there is something for everyone. Therefor I am able to target a large age range.
  • 6. App Functionality Sound Owl is a music streaming and sharing app/website. The app will allow users to stream music and share clips of the song or the entire song with friends, through the app or through other apps. This allows music to be shared instantly amongst friends as links are shared, so all it takes is a click of a button, there will be a drop down menu so the user can select how they want to share the music. This also means that our user amount will gradually increase due to word of mouth. Users can upload their own music, but will have to pay for this feature. This is an app for the people who don’t want to pay monthly subscriptions. The app will be completely free to use, however will run advertisements. • 7. Production PlanMonday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday On the first day of production, I need to get together a qualified team of app designers in order to start the process of creating an app. As this is a fresh idea in the application market, I need the staff to sign an NDA in order to safeguard my ideas. Other aspects need to be considered here also such as how much the team are getting paid After the team has been assembled and contracts have been signed, we need to start Wire-framing. This is the visual creation of what each page will include. This is vital in the project and gives a mutual understanding of what needs to go into the app. After the team has been assembled and contracts have been signed, we need to start Wire-framing. Before the app is released for all users, it is important it has a beta stage. This is because during the Beta, people will identify issues with the app that can be fixed before launch. Launch day, put the app on the app store and google play store. • 9. Expected Revenue and How it will be made The main source of income for my app will be through the advertisements. Some income will come from content creators who want to upload their own music to the app for £0.99. There is an option to remove ads for £2.99 if some users want ads removed. In order to make enough money from advertising, we need as many users as possible. The more users on our app, the more we get from advertising companies. The overall profit from this will be enough to keep the app running. As time progresses and more users join, higher profits will be made which can be used for further development. The reason I have not chosen a subscription service is because I want this app to be accessible to literally everyone, with no monthly payment being needed. Most of the advertisements will be targeted at the younger audience (14-21), as I feel that they will take up the majority of my user base. So for example companies such as Nike, Adidas, Off-white and Beats by dre.
  • 10. Legal and ethical issues Legal issues Opening meetings act- the policy behind open meeting laws are that any decisions made by the government and legislation should be made openly and not in secret. Therefor the general public can be fully informed regarding decision making bodies. However, communications that take place over social media have potential to not follow this act. For example, friending, tweeting and messaging via social media is widely considered informal, therefor a meeting can be constituted under most open meeting law regimes. Discrimination- as the majority of the world have access to the internet, you need to be very careful in order not to discriminate against anyone. This is because if we discriminated against anyone, it is likely that we would face sever legal issues. Copyright- it is necessary to be cautious of what you post on social media to avoid any potential copyright charges. If something copyrighted is posted, the poster should make sure they obtain a physical record of the copyright licenses. Privacy- the majority of social media platforms give the user control over their own privacy. Even though the majority of privacy concerns apply to individuals, users who are public should be just as careful as everything posted online stays online forever, even if you delete it there is a likely copy. • 11. Guidelines and Conditions The world Wide Web Consortium (W3C) established the standards for interoperating web based content. This has been done through releasing any browsers that do not follow these standards at all time, browser makers are effecting Web developers, users and businesses. When there is a lack of support for these standards, using and developing web based technology become difficult and expensive. The main goal is to support the core standards and encourage browser makers to also abide by these standards. This would ensure simple and affordable access to web based technology for everyone. https://archive.webstandards.org/mission.html Terms and conditions are used in order to help everyone understand their rights and or obligations. This allows the parties to focus their energy on agreeing the specifics of an order. Terms and conditions also provide comfort for the user as the terms are compliable for the majority of the user base. By having terms and conditions, you are much safer legally as the users have agreed to the terms and conditions. https://www.rocketlawyer.co.uk/article/terms-and-conditions.rl
  • 12. App: Flow of Pages Log in page Home page Sign up page Profile MusicExplore App settings Search Trending Share Save/Download Profile settings Following/followed Terms and conditions Privacy Contact us The flow of pages represent how you will be able to access each feature of the app. Due to the app having so many features, I can not make the design and flow of pages too complicated. Therefor the apps features will be separated into categories in order to keep organization and a professional feel about the app.
  • 13. Revenue of app The main revenue of the app will come from advertisements. Company's will pay for us to run their ad in order to reach out to our users with related products. For example, all though the app is aimed at ages 12-40, the advertisements will predominantly be aimed at people aged 14-21 as they will make up the majority of the user base and will be more likely to buy something online than someone over the age of 40 who may prefer to go to the shop and make the purchase in person. I have chosen to run advertisements on my app as the main source of revenue as it has minimal effect on the apps function and we can tailor the ad specifically to a user by using cookies, this increases the likelihood that the user will open the advertisement, which gives us revenue. Many successful social media’s business models are running ads. For example, three of the most popular social media platforms, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter all run ads, that is how they remain free.
  • 14. Conclusion In conclusion, throughout this LO3, I have identified some of the main aspects of creating an app. For example how we will make revenue, legal issues and the apps flow of pages. Overall, this LO ha been focused on how the app will be made and all other factors that I need to take into account to make my app earn as high revenue as possible and avoid legal issues by including terms and conditions. I have also looked at ethical issues in order to avoid offending anyone or being unethical as that would reflect badly on the business. This is so that all legal issues are avoided and we do not commit any copyright infringes so that no one in our team gets jail time or their reputation ruined.
