Character Break-down
Female
Name: Milly
Role: Leading Female
Playing age: Early 20’s (22 ideal)
Ethnicity: Any
Description: Milly is mature, artistic yet incredibly shy
and introverted. She is a young woman who has to deal
with a large number of setbacks in her life, a number due
to her anxiety in social situations. Lives alone, uses
art to help her cope and express emotions.
Our choice of character
 Milly is the lead character of our narrative, an introverted young woman.
 By choosing a female lead, we can apply David Gauntlett’s empowered female
theory. This is the theory that women are in control of what they do and do
what they want for themselves, not for the male gaze.
 Also, a female Protagonist conveys an ideology that women are strong in
themselves and can get by independently.
 Additionally, during our opening sequence, we want the audience to feel some
sympathy for Milly, especially as she finds it difficult to feel content and
comfortable in social situations. However, we want the audience’s emotion to
change as the plot progresses, and them to feel empathy for the emotions that
the Milly is feeling.
Our chosen actress
 We have decided to cast Laura Wilson as our actress playing Milly. We auditioned a
few people who met our character break-down, however decided that Laura was the
best at conveying the character through movements and emotions.
 Laura is 19, however she would be able to pass as a university graduate.
 Laura has a large amount of acting training, such as being a member of Curve Young
Company and has appeared in a number of plays. She has also done some on screen
training as part of a multimedia production she was recently in
 We have discussed the commitments with her and she plans to take time off work in
order to be a member of our cast.
Why we have chosen Laura
 One reason we feel that Laura suits playing this role is because of her age and
maturity. Although she is 19, she has an older playing age. This is also beneficial
because being younger than her character, some of the audience may perceive her
as seeming younger than she is suppose to be.
 A study has shown that “the withdrawn look of introvert faces is instantly
recognisable” and Laura is able to play on this. She is able to make her face appear
worried, or reserved, all the time.
 Also, Laura’s face would not be associated with threat or risk and we can use this as
the character she is playing is one who is likely to stay away from danger or trouble.
 However, aside from her facial features we will also be relying on the way that
Laura acts to emphasise the character she is playing, such as looking uncomfortable
with the change of moving in somewhere unknown to her.
Contract
 In order to secure Laura as the actress in our production, we are
sending her a contract binding her to our production.
 We will be sending her this alongside the shooting schedule so
she can book the dates off for filming.
 We will also be sending her a model release form to accept
recordings and photographs being taken as part of our
production.
