True gums are formed from the disintegration of internal plant tissues, mostly from the decomposition of cellulose in a process called gummosis. Gums contain high amounts of sugar and are closely allied to the pectins. Gums are especially common in plants of dry regions. They are used primarily as adhesives, and are also used in printing and finishing textiles, as a sizing for paper, in the paint and candy industries and as drugs.
Resins are formed as oxidation products of various essential oils and are very complex and varied in chemical composition.

This document discusses the management and utilization of waste byproducts from fruits, vegetables, meat, and sugarcane processing industries. It describes how wastes such as peels, seeds, and pulp from various fruits like apples, apricots, bananas, citrus fruits, grapes, guavas, and mangos can be used to produce products like pectin, oils, dyes, and animal feed. Vegetable wastes from potatoes, tomatoes, and beans are also discussed. The document outlines how byproducts in the meat industry like blood, hair, skin, and bones can be utilized.
This presentation is the result of an inquiry made by the Italian students involved in the Comenius project, on the local production of organic food, including meat, fish, cereals, dairy products, wine and olive oil.
The information provided comes from original sources and it is “first hand” collected.
The students have interviewed, over a period of three months, farmers and food producers of the Lake Garda area in Italy and they have investigated the footprints of these products on the environment, analyzing the criteria for the commercial choices of the owner.
The document summarizes the evolution of human diet over time:
- For most of human history from 30,000-50,000 years ago, diets consisted primarily of plant foods.
- Around 5,000 years ago, the agricultural revolution brought profound changes through domestication of plants and animals.
- The industrial revolution 200 years ago and subsequent technological innovations over the past 4 decades further radically changed diets.
- Compared to human and biological evolutionary timescales, adaptations to dietary changes and increases in population through these periods have been dramatic.

Encapsulation techniques are used to preserve and protect ingredients in foods. Microencapsulation coats droplets of liquids, solids or gases in thin films that control release under different conditions. This allows controlled release of flavors and protects ingredients. Encapsulation finds applications in foods like dry beverage mixes and chewing gum where it prolongs flavor sensation and shelf life. There is also increased demand for encapsulation of vitamins and nutraceutical ingredients to mask strong flavors. Nanocapsules provide targeted delivery systems to carry and release flavors or nutrients when desired. Fabricated and instant foods incorporate encapsulated ingredients to add nutrition and convenience.

This document provides an overview of fermentation processes and fermented foods. It discusses how fermentation is one of the oldest methods of food processing and preservation. Fermentation uses microorganisms like yeasts and bacteria to alter foods through production of acids, alcohols and flavors. It serves purposes like enriching diets, preserving foods, and reducing cooking time. The document then discusses various types of fermentation like yeast fermentation and different fermented foods like bread, wine and vegetables. It also discusses fermentation chemicals and their uses in industries.
The document discusses using dried plums as ingredients in animal protein products like meat and poultry. It provides research showing dried plums can extend shelf life, retain moisture, act as an antimicrobial and antioxidant, and replace phosphates. Dried plums come in forms like puree, powder and fiber that can be added to meat in processing or marinades to improve quality without characterizing flavor.

Food technology is the application of science to food manufacturing and preservation processes. Throughout history, methods like drying, salting, and smoking helped preserve seasonal foods. The Industrial Revolution brought mechanization, increasing food production volumes. New technologies like instant milk powder, freeze drying, decaffeination, vacuum fillers, and PCR food testing have contributed greatly to the modern global food supply.

Shade Grown Coffee Benefits
Organic coffee is a better choice than regular coffee. This is because organic coffee has all of the benefits of coffee and none of the impurities than can be found in a regular cup or java. And shade grown coffee is often a better choice than plain organic. Why is this? What are the shade grown coffee benefits that convince us to buy shade grown instead of organic or regular coffee?
Shade Grown Coffee
Shade Grown Coffee Benefits
Gourmet coffee
Sustainable agriculture
Preservation of biodiversity
Soil preservation as a priority
Commitment to responsible land management
Shade Grown Coffee Benefits 1: Shade grown is gourmet coffee
A couple of years ago we wrote about gourmet coffee and what that means.
In general gourmet coffee is characterized by high quality beans and skillful preparation. In the world of coffee many consider Jamaican Blue Mountain, Kona from Hawaii, select organic coffees from Panama and Arabic coffee from Colombia as being of high gourmet quality. But there is more to the story.
Growing coffee in the shade results in a finer coffee. This is similar to growing coffee at higher altitudes. The beans mature more slowly and with deeper and richer flavor.
Shade Grown Coffee Benefits 2: Sustainable Agriculture
The ideal way to grow coffee in the shade is to plant coffee within an existing forest. Mother Nature takes care of the rest. In this ideal situation there are no herbicides, fungicides, pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. This is organic coffee at its finest.
Forested coffee farms are bio-rich buffer zones for plants, flowers and wildlife that are at risk as a result of deforestation and poor land management. Planting coffee under the existing forest canopy results in a high quality coffee. And income from selling the shade grown coffee helps the farmer keep the land in its original pristine condition.
Without having to resort to the use of synthetic fertilizers or other chemicals the natural plants are all preserved. And the water table is not polluted. Sustainable agriculture is one of the best shade grown coffee benefits.
Types of waste and magnitude of waste generationPritika Rana
Food industries generate large amounts of waste from their production processes. [1] Meat industries produce waste like blood, hair, skin and bones from animal slaughter. [2] The milk industry's main waste is sludge from wastewater treatment. [3] Fruits and vegetable industries deal with solid peels and skins as well as liquid waste from juicing. Proper utilization of these wastes is important to reduce environmental impact.

Sustainable Organic Farming in the Philippines: History and Success Storiesx3G9
The passage summarizes the history and development of organic farming in the Philippines from the 1980s to the present. It describes how the modern organic movement began as a protest against industrial agriculture, and led to the formation of groups like MASIPAG to promote sustainable farming practices. Over the decades, organic farming grew in the Philippines, supported by various NGOs and farmer groups. The national government also began supporting organic initiatives in the 1990s focused on export markets. By the 2000s, organic certification programs were established, and the sector continued expanding with government policies and programs to promote organic agriculture nationwide.

BIOCONCEPT - Bogusław Bednarz from Kańczuga and Gardenia Sp. z o.o. with
