- 1. Caravans- A British Love Affair Documentary Analysis
- 2. What are the themes throughout the documentary? The themes that run throughout the documentary are ; • How caravans gave people adventures • Social History • Changing British society to cultural. What is the narrative structure? The narrative structure is Single Strand, Non- Linear, Closed.
- 3. Camerawork During the interviews , the camera shots that were used were , low angle shots, close up’s, medium close up’s and medium long shots. The interviewee was always framed to the left or right of the centre, and the camera shot followed rule of thirds. Handheld camera work was used an awful lot of actuality footage. This included videos of caravans on the road.
- 4. Mise-En-Scene All of the interviews were done in caravans. This enforces the love of the caravans from the interviewees. Here is an example. All the lighting during the interviews are focused on the interviewee, and the lighting is ambient lighting.
- 5. Sound Voiceover The voiceover is a female , who speaks standard English. Old upbeat music is used as a music bed for the whole documentary. The music was reflective of that time period.
- 6. Editing There was a lot of montage editing throughout the documentary of archive material of the 1950’s,60’s and 70’s. There was also montage editing of landscapes and caravans. • All questions were edited out of the interviews, and sometimes we heard the person before we seen them. There were also old family photos , home movies and videos of families in caravans years ago. As an effect, static was used in the background when war photos were shown.
- 7. Graphics The only graphic that was used was this , at the very start of the documentary which introduced it.
