Gone through articles and presentations on the web and got a half-baked understanding of the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA)?
Refer to my DITA Quick Start presentation for the 2007 STC India Conference to learn to evaluate, plan and start implementing DITA.
In this presentation, you will learn about the following:
o Structured authoring and XML
o Key DITA concepts: topics, maps, specialization
o DITA architecture and content model
o Authoring in topics
o Organizing content using DITA maps
o Creating relationship tables
o Conditional text and reuse in DITA
o Metadata support in DITA
o DITA tools, standards and processes
o Publishing with the DITA Open Toolkit
In this session, we will look first at the rich metadata that documents in your repository have, how to control the mapping of this on to your content model, and some of the interesting things this can deliver. We'll then move on to the content transformation and rendition services, and see how you can easily and powerfully generate a wide range of media from the content you already have.
Unilever implemented Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) to standardize and optimize its North American inbound and outbound transportation processes. The multi-year project involved rolling out OTM to 29 plants, 29 distribution centers, 164 co-packers, and over 800 suppliers across the US and Canada. While the implementation faced some challenges around dock scheduling, carrier EDI connectivity, and rate data issues, the initial pilot helped address many of these. Current focus areas include improving system integration between OTM and SAP, setting up EDI for ocean shipments, and leveraging OTM's optimization capabilities.

Escaping Dependency Hell: A deep dive into Gradle's dependency management fea...Roberto Pérez Alcolea
Have you been in the situation where your project builds as expected but a few hours later it won’t anymore? Does this include symptoms such as ClassNotFoundError or NoSuchMethodError exceptions? Well, you are not alone, you probably are or have been in ‘Dependency Hell’ and believe me, we all have been there.
It doesn’t matter if you are about to start a green field project or touching an existing one, most likely you will suffer from this at some point in your career. Unfortunately, compilation issues are not the only symptoms of being in ‘Dependency Hell’, another problems are (and not limited to):
- Intentional and unintentional Breaking API changes in libraries
- Multiple components depending on the same module but with different, incompatible, APIs.
- Multiple libraries providing the same feature (multiple logging libraries).
- Incompatible versions of a runtime.
- Misaligned dependencies of a component
- Depending on transitive dependencies that eventually disappear from our projects
This list can be extensive and overwhelming! As a developer I just want my build to work!
Fortunately, Gradle Build Tool Team has heavily invested engineering efforts for many years in their Dependency Management machinery to address these issues from both sides, the consumer of modules but more importantly, better software modeling for library producers.
In this session we will navigate, as library consumers, how we can influence the dependency resolution machinery in Gradle to keep your build in good state and reproducible. In addition, we will explore a few Gradle features to do better software modeling in order to publish good metadata that benefits consumers of our libraries.
Some familiarity with Gradle is recommended but not required.

Virtualizing allows consolidating many systems onto fewer physical servers through efficient use of resources.
The update to NIST Special Publication 800-63 Revision 3 covers guidelines on digital identity management, identity proofing and authentication of users working with government IT systems over open networks – and serves as de facto guidance far beyond government and into many industries that are depending on secure user authentication.
Part of the guidelines recommend higher-assurance authentication, including the use of multi-factor authentication with public key cryptography, where private keys are tightly bound to the device. This, of course, is the core of the FIDO approach which has been implemented in over 300 FIDO certified products worldwide that are powering authentication solutions from top service providers such as Google, Facebook, Aetna and more.
In this presentation, experts review the NIST guidelines and their relationship to FIDO Authentication.

CARA now offers a plug-in approach that provides all the ease of use of the Java Applet without the issues. It also allows direct upload from Windows Explorer / Mac Finder and also Outlook.
CARA for Pharmaceutical Labelling documentsGeneris
Labelling made simple
Managing Labelling documentation is a complex matter for Life Sciences companies, given not only the variety of the documents (Core Data Sheets through to individual labels for different dosage forms, strengths and markets), but also the need for managing translations, regulatory affairs interactions internally and with authorities, the changing industry regulations for such content, and the need to interact with Product Supply and integrate feedback loops from new safety / efficacy data and regulatory directives. CARA allows this complexity to be handled in a secure and simple way.
CARA provides tools for:
> Structured authoring - Author individual components that are collated to single labels
> Submission and production integration - Seamlessly integrate the label documents with both labelling production systems and submission systems
> Master Data Management - Integrate seamlessly with a variety of master data management systems (product information) or manage it in CARA
> Where Used - Easily track and trace where each version of each label has been submitted and approved during which date period
> Translations - Manage translations of labels including providing a portal access via CARA to translation companies
DocLink for managing hyperlinks in DocumentumGeneris
DocLink is a tool that converts file system hyperlinks between documents stored in a Documentum repository to Documentum URLs, allowing the links to remain clickable when viewed from within Documentum. It scans PDFs for file path hyperlinks and changes them to Documentum links for temporary viewing without altering the source documents or MD5 checksums. This allows documents with inter-file links to be viewed within Documentum while maintaining the original file system paths for regulatory submissions.

existing mobile support (via browsers)
is now supplemented with a mobile-
specific app.
CARA v3.2 offered full support for
mobile phones and tablets via
browsers, including the ability to
access the slimmed-down CARA
Portal via such devices, and an HTML
download alternative to the standard
Java Applet for Apple devices where
applets are not supported.
CARA v3.3 adds a specific phone app
that allows you to:
• search the repository
• view content
• view and edit properties
• complete workflow activities
• receive notifications when content
you have “subscribed” to has been
altered
• download content to the device to
view offline.
The app supports the following devices:
- Apple - Android - (Windows 8 / Blackberry planned)

Email integration extensions
In standard platforms, import of emails
is restricted to importing as a specific
document type, which means that a
customer’s custom attributes are not
available. In addition, the extraction of
attributes is hard-coded. CARA
extends this to allow mapping of email
attributes to repository attributes,
including extracting email content.
Once the emails are imported into
CARA (via drag and drop), you can
either access the attachments by
viewing the email and opening the
attachments from there, or by using
the new Extract feature to extract
attachments and automatically link
them to the email as a Related
Object.
