Capstone Reflection
Greetings MBA Students! Several of you have requested more information on the "reflection paper"
so I am providing more explicit instructions below: 1. The paper should be 3–5 pages long, double–
spaced, 1–inch margins all around, 11–pt Times New Roman font. (I won't be a stickler on these
details). 2.There is no single "right" content expected for the reflection paper; that is, different
people can be expected to reflect uniquely on the simulation experience. Just think about your
simulation experience for a while and then write about what stands out to you. 3. You should keep in
mind that this is a capstone/strategy class; accordingly, your "reflections" may address strategic
(rare, consequential, directive) issues, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, we decided that we needed to pick a business strategy and stick with it to develop in key
markets and create success with all having the same goal in mind. Once we keyed in on that and
made our decisions based on our own calculation and predictions, we started to see greater results.
Most businesses do not get a practice round to see if they will make it in the business world as we
did before we actually began and get a clean slate to try again. In reality, if we would have had a
failed business venture, it would have resulted in a huge loss and we would have learned from our
mistakes and had to invest more money on another attempt. Luckily, that was not the case, and we
were able to make more analyzed decisions and complete the simulation quite successfully. The
overwhelming part of the simulation was the time it took in making the decisions, when you have
three CEO's who think very differently. Once we realized the decisions actually do need to be
thought out and discussed, which took typically three to four hours of our own time outside class,
we started to see results. In the beginning, we really underestimated the amount of time was needed
to make educated decisions. Also, I felt just as we got the hang of the project and adjusted our
strategy, more decisions were added, which took

3.0 Business Strategy Game (BSG) Overview (BSG Period Week 7 to 12) 3.1 General management
of the firm and strategy implementation The BSG emphasizes the integrative skills and perspectives
required for general management of a firm. In order to develop this set of skills, you will need to
draw on things you have been taught in functional areas such as accounting, finance and marketing
and learn how those different functional areas work together in a successful enterprise. The best –
and most painful – way to learn those integrative skills is by spending a number of years working as
general manager of a firm. The closest we can get in the classroom is good competitive business
simulation. We will use a computer–aided competitive simulation in the first part of the course to
give you some experience dealing with the challenges of general management. The Business
Strategy Game is a computer simulation game that is designed to help students understand the
challenge of managing a business and create an integrated, capstone experience. It will provide you
with a realistic competitive environment, albeit a simulated one, that will require you to utilize
everything that you have learned in the past several years as a business major. In addition, there are
several other dimensions to the game that will help to prepare you for the "real" world that you are
going to face soon. First, you will be asked to work closely with others. It will

Marketing Simulation : Target Market, 4p's Of Marketing,...
The marketing simulation allows us to develop a solid knowledge in the field of marketing. It helped
to implement the marketing strategy in a lifelike environment and enhance our skills. We were able
to implement all aspects of the marketing strategy including target market, product design, pricing,
marketing communication mix, media selection, promotion, and place. Throughout the simulation,
all 4ps marketing elements have been developed.
The aim of this paper is to cover how each area of the simulation relates to what we have discussed
in the class. We are going to discuss target market, 4p's of marketing, performance metrics and
research data.
TARGET MARKET
Figure out the typical customers is the first marketing strategy. Business should find the right
customers who would by your product and tailor and focus its marketing effort toward them. Thus,
this target market represents the group of customer offering greatest opportunity.
The simulation marketing game helped me develop a great solid knowledge and skills on how to
define the target market. The Various target markets have different demographic, psychographic
characteristics, products use demands, price sensitivity and other preferences. Knowing different
characteristics that differentiate the market segments was helpful in choosing the right target market.
During this simulation, we came up with several characteristics that make the particular target
market to be unique. These segments vary in size and

SETTING RESERVATION PRICES
In the real world, reservation prices are derived from industry knowledge, business experience, and
due diligence.
In the Simulation, each player will receive Confidential Information about Bel Vino and Starshine.
 The Confidential Information gives specifics about value creation opportunities at each target.
 The Confidential Information is different for each role.
 Use the Confidential Information with the financial data and valuation tools in the Simulation to
estimate the value of each target from the perspective of your assigned role.
 Based on these, you decide on your reservation prices for Bel Vino and Starshine
 If your role is Bel Vino, your reservation price for BV is the lowest price you would accept; for
SS it is the
highest price your would pay.
 If your role is Starshine, your reservation price for SS is the lowest price you would accept; for
BV it is the

How Do Video Games Help In The Educational System?
The Videogaming industry is one of the largest parts of the entertainment industry. Most gamers
might cite that gaming is fun or a positive way to spend an afternoon, while those opposed to the
idea only see it as a waste of time. Throughout the home gaming lifespan, it has had lots of success.
The Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the Wii all sold roughly two hundred million units certainly
proves this statement. With this in mind, we can see that gaming carries a lot of influence, especially
with the younger crowd; moreover, what you did not know is that gaming technology could be
easily applied to other systems to make them better than they were before. That is correct, video
games can improve our everyday functions. The argument presented will not be whether or not to

The current developments could not only be used to enhance the educational system, but, could be
used in both major construction projects and various careers of importance.
The Educational system has long been outdated, most bigger high schools do not have access to the
critical educational systems that they require. One way we could revamp this system is with video
games. Now, one question that might be raised, is how would videogames help in the educational
system? One way videogames help is through the training and honing of the data retention skill.
Memorizing basic abilities and learning to use your learned skills to survive in the game enforces
the positive light of remembering things equals rewards. Without memorizing and practicing those
advanced moves, your progress will be heavily limited. This re–enforces the idea of retaining data in
order to make yourself better. To further back up my point, Sarah D. Sparks writes about Daphne
Balimer, and how she talked of how "regular but not obsessive playing of action games does not
lower students' ability to pay attention. In fact... game playing can improve students' attention
control" (Sparks 1). Without a single doubt, the

Organizational Group Dynamics and Politics Essay
Group Dynamics and Politics Within Organizations Individuals have their own personalities that can
influence their enthusiasm and productivity within an organization. In addition, individuals also
form groups and are part of teams that work together to reach a common goal within organization.
According to Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly, and Konopaske (2009) dedicated and cohesive teams
can have a tremendous impact on organizations effectiveness and the global market. However, all of
this happens within the frame–work of office politics and can hinder or enhance the organization's
effectiveness. Therefore, it is important to not only understand individuals, but also groups, teams
and office politics within the organization. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third phase is when the group decides they need to get the project completed before time runs
out and there is the final burst of energy. This model works well with projects and groups that have
deadlines to reach their objectives. For example, the sustainability committee at the National
Environmental Health Association was tasked with writing a white paper on how the organization
viewed and was dealing with the issue of sustainability. The group identified tasks and then
everyone worked on their part. The committee then reviewed the work that was done and
determined next steps and the work moved along until the group realized they only had a month left
to finish the project. There was a burst of energy form the group members to finish the project on
time. Once the project was completed, the committee went back to their normal level of
participation and activity. From this example, it is clear that groups can and do follow the
punctuated equilibrium model. However, once the special project was over, the committee went
back to their normal group activity. This suggests that both group development models are relevant
based on the needs and purpose of the group. Group formation, development and outcomes are
complicated and there are many factors that play a role in how they will function (Gibson, et al.,
2009). By understanding not only the two previously

Half Life Research Paper
Half Life, everybody loves Half Life right? One of the most successful games in history, it's been
given countless awards in the time since it's release. With people to this day still developing Half
Life mods you'd expect them to have built upon the original to try to improve its quality. Some, like
Black Mesa have, others, like Sven Co–op have most certainly not. Now don't get me wrong, it has
nothing bad about it in principle, the idea was to add multiplayer missions to Half Life and allow
players to combine their strength against bots. On paper the idea of multiplayer Half Life sounds
amazing, however all things come at a cost, and this mod paid that cost dearly. In terms of its
original function Sven co–op serves its purpose fine, with players all on ... Show more content on

I found the AI had much higher numbers than the players on every server, reaching upwards of 300
enemies in 10 minutes on some. The servers actually had at most 32 or so players but that many can
cause a lot of damage. So much havoc was caused in fact, that the players could lag the server to a
halt. Unfortunately for the game this took very little to manage, because when such a large group of
people are all causing explosions and banging on walls, or all trying to fit down one passageway
while trying to hit each other with crowbars. So the servers lag out too easily, of course, I imagine a
lot of games would have this problem if the players could run amok too. However part of the blame
for this rests with Half Life, its engine wasn't built to support 32 living players working together and
heavy instances of AI beside them. There were other errors and problems that aren't the fault of
Valve, like the fact that there was no way to mute players spamming the voice and text chat (and boy
did they), or that the guns either did virtually no damage to enemies or would one shot them every

Human resource management development and strategic management enhanced by simulation

By thinking ahead, senior managers can implement a process that takes into account the strategic
thinking workshop approach put forward by Graetz, (2002, pp. 458–9). The advantage of this
approach will be realised when staff from around the world are brought together on a problem–
solving exercise. It is also necessary to take into account the communicative skill gaps that exist and
what type of interpersonal skills are needed, and this is especially true in the ` context of decision
making vis–a–vis strategic alliances, for example (Trim and Lee, 2003). What needs to be
understood, however, is how individuals from different cultures relate to people from outside their
cultural value system. The key issues which surface are issues such as the appropriate way in which
to communicate within the organisation's hierarchy, and if necessary, how to communicate with
government representatives. Therefore, training and staff development personnel in international
organisations need to identify which ` type of simulation exercises will be most suitable for training
staff vis–a–vis careers in an international organisational setting. Human resource management
specialists will, therefore, need to develop staff development programmes that enable an individual
employee to develop their skill base continually. This means, according to Blunden (1997, p. 277),
that an individual needs to develop an ability to transfer his/her learning and skills from one
situation to

Cyber Attack And Cyber Attacks Essay
Most nations today fear terror attacks that include bombing use of reinforcements like machines
guns and other firearms. This is because terror attacks most of the times leave many people dead and
others disabled while others are left without families. However, there is another attack today in
many nations that can be destructive like a terror attack and this is the cyber–attack and threats.
Cyber–attacks can be responsible for large mass destructions by making all systems connected to
cyber networks fail to work (Rhodes 20). An example is the Morris worm that affected the world
cyber infrastructures and caused them to slow down to a position of being impractical. Therefore, as
a result of these cyber–attacks resources are being established and designed to help counter the
attacks.
Cyber threat simulation is one of the resources that have been deployed to help deal with cyber–
attacks. A cyber threat simulation is an approach where a real life attack is imitated and used to test
how a firm using cyber infrastructures can respond to the threat (Montana and UcedaVelez 579). A
threat is created where there exist two groups in one company the group bringing in the threat to the
company and the group responsible for finding a solution to fight the threat. Simulations help to
measure the speed of a real attack and how long it takes the company to respond to the threat.
Cyber security industry has decided to establish new ways to measure the speed of threats rather
than relying on

Beer Simulation
Root Beer Simulation At the outset, I have to acknowledge that I had a problem with this simulation.
Initially, in my first two orders, I confused the backlog and inventory sections, so that I believed I
had a significant surplus in inventory. Therefore, rather than minimizing the bullwhip of supply and
demand, I exacerbated the problem by limiting my supply well below the number of orders coming
in, much less below what I could fill with the backlog and incoming orders. This error on my part
certainly led to increasing instability, not only in my own incoming orders, but also in the entire
supply chain. The simulation also kept auto–filling my initial order, which was only 10,000 cases,
despite me ordering a significantly larger number of cases. I could not get the simulation to operate
properly and allow me to place a larger order. It kept auto–ordering the 10,000 cases. I could not get
it to place an order other than 10,000 cases. Because of this glitch, I continued to increase my
backlog. I simply could not order more than 10,000 cases. I address this issue because the glitch
certainly impacted my opinion of the computer simulation as a means of learning. In this scenario,
the initial computer simulation was absolutely worthless as a learning tool. I made an error in my
first order, but I do not think that error was meaningful. Instead, it appears that whatever number of
cases I placed in my initial order would be the number of cases ordered over the next several

Tijuana Summary
Questions Derived from Moral Landscaping
Ian Bogost investigated how games could teach particular procedures and practical systems to
players. But Julian Dibbel's investigation in Tijuana revealed how players could transform
procedures into self–serving, manipulative machines. Profiteering is likely not the lesson Bogost–or
Epistemic Games for that matter–hoped to teach players. But what is the difference between
Epistemic Games transferring players' power into solutions to real–life problems and Blacksnow
transferring power into real–life profit? Simply stated, it is the players' motivation. More complexly
stated, a game like Candy Crush commits no moral error by placing players into a work–based
system of economic growth.
Candy Crush transfers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And are these games really just simulations of real–life? This would make sense since games now
have real–life applications and implications. But all things considered, the difference between a
game and a simulation is arbitrary and based strictly on one's definition of each term. If the
difference relies on how realistic the game is in its mechanics and play style, then Call of Duty
might as well be called a combat simulator. Does a VR set such as the Oculus Rift–along with the
still–in–development rifle–shaped controller and multi–direction gaming treadmill–automatically
turn a game into a simulation? Perhaps every game is a low–stakes simulation of its real life
counterparts. Pit, then, is a non–digital, non–profit simulation of stock market trading...that is, of
course, unless one started playing for money. Then, does the inclusion of money turn a game into a
simulation, or even into work? These terms are debatable. What is clear is the driving factor behind
why games are made–beyond artistic expression, though not mutually exclusive of it, is the desire
for profit.
The gaming industry, much like the motion picture industry, is a business, driven by profit. Whether
other companies design games for other uses–to teach or to problem–solve–is outside the scope of
what the industry (not so much the indie developers) prides itself on. King wants to make money for
its product; that is common sense. Whether the company makes money on the front

Everest Is A Simulation Game Created By A Collaboration...
1. Executive Summary Everest, is a simulation game created by a collaboration between Forio
Business Simulations and Harvard Business School, in which the objective is to virtually climb to
the top of the world, Mount Everest. The gruelling virtual climb is meant to reflect real life problems
of climbing a mountain, such as oxygen scarcity, volatile health conditions, and unpredictable
weather. One of the main features of the climb however is the students who are thrown randomly in
groups of 5–7, and are expected to collaborate and ultimately climb to the summit. The intuitive
design of the simulation gives each team member a wide variety of information, distinct goals, and
one role. The information is intentionally restricted towards certain individuals due to their roles.
The goals are aligned with the roles of group member, the team leader's goal is to get everyone to
the top of summit. There was two attempts in climbing the mountain. The first approach involved an
autocratic leadership style, combined with limited communication, and group conformity ended in
unsatisfactory results. The second time, with lessons learned from the first attempt, was overall
better, as tasks was delegated, combined with shared decision making and improved
communication, showed a significant improvement in performance. Although, Everest is an
oversimplification of various organisational models, the experiences received for the team, as well
as myself were tremendous. This

Simulation In Nursing Case Study
1. According to McGonigle and Mastrian, (2012), the use of simulation to allow students to interact
with technology has become part of nursing school curriculum. Simulation in nursing school helps
students to learn what is expected in a real clinical situation. Simulations create scenarios where
nursing students can manipulate variables and make a clinical decision after seeing the results. 3D
simulation can mimic the real clinical situation and encourage students to make decisions they
would make at work. Students can learn skills such as blood draws, intravenous or foley insertion,
wound care and medication administration with no fear of causing harm. The simulations enable

Across the United States of America, hospitals encourage incorporation of technologies in their
daily operations. One component of the so–called Meaningful use, is a promotion of EHR use by
healthcare providers (McGonigle Mastrian 2012). New healthcare organizations must embrace
technology because it promotes organization growth, efficiency, lower costs and increased profits.
My organization opened its doors for business a year ago, and the managers are still pondering on
what technology incorporate in its daily operation. The company still uses old fashion paper charting
which is vulnerable to high costs and medical errors. We use non–certified computer templates for
progress notes, and there is no network communication between departments. For instance, the
internal medicine has no access to the psychiatric or psychology department records and vice versa.
Introducing EHR in this organization can improve the quality of care and probably cut operational
costs. Harnessing technology such as electronic medical records, use of Pyxis machines, e– scribing
and eradicate interoperability between departmental computers can improve daily operation and
provide seamless patient care. Tools such as e–library can be used for patient education

How do Video Games Make People Smarter?
In today's world, video games are a big part of today's entertainment. Not only are video games
popular, they are very beneficial as well. Video games are actually very good for people.
Unfortunately, not everyone believes this. Some people believe video games are unhealthy. It is
important to know video games can improve a person's knowledge, since many people believe the
opposite, despite the fact they can develop important skills and can even help people's health.
Video games can expand a person's mind and make it easier for them to gain knowledge. Those
who play video games may actually have the ability to become very intelligent. At Business ... Show

Schools and jobs are teaching people skills through video game
simulations, so the players can get a feeling of what something is truly like. A video game
simulation
that is very close to the real task someone is trying to master is probably more effective then reading
some instructions. Video games are stereotyped to make someone brain dead, but they actually do
the
complete opposite by helping players develop important skills.
Many people believe video games are bad for a person's health, but that is far from true. In fact,
video games can actually improve people's health. The Huffington Post reported, The study found
that when people undergoing chemotherapy or other serious treatments were immersed in a virtual
gaming world, they reported significantly less stress and fear. In addition, those being treated for
burn
wounds found a decline in their pain ratings by rates of 30 to 50 percent (Guarini n.p.). Thanks to
video games, some victims of harsh burns had a significantly smaller pain rate. Stress is also a big
problem in today's world, and the fact that video games reduce stress proves they are healthy.
The Huffington Post also claimed, A study of 681 healthy individuals ages 50 and older revealed

Evaluation Of The Business Game Simulation
1. Introduction The purpose of this report is to outline the evaluation of the business game
simulation SimVenture, which aims to offer a simulated experience of how organisations work
enabling skills and knowledge It also reflects the use of relevant entrepreneurial theories into
practice while making decisions in the business and clearly stating the financial achievements at the
end of it.. The report evaluates team performance and decision–making within the perspective of
results achieved in the simulation at the end of three virtual years. 2. Group Work We knew that
teamwork is all about being able to work smoothly and efficiently within a group. Doing this we
draw on a number of other skills, the ability to encourage and inspire, to compromise and ignore our
own ego, communication and other interpersonal skills such as negotiation, influence, advising and
interpreting. 2.1 Leadership and team working The actual work on the SimVenture simulation was
spread over ten meetings, from February to April, to integrate it in the general learning experience.
In order to facilitate efficient teamwork and mutual understanding, we did research on Belbin self–
perception inventory, redistribute the questionnaire and prepare the interpretation materials for each
team member. After this, we checked and compare the results and each of us exercised its role as he
knows better, from co–ordinator, shaper, resource investigator or team worker (Belbin, 1996).

Different Training Methods Are Affective
Some of the different training methods are affective in there own way, but can they be used for
continuing employees? One of the great perks of having the business simulation is that it can be
used for all employees, new and seasoned, to be able to develop further knowledge. With
simulations they do not all have to be complex, like having all the business processes of the
organization. The simulation could simply have specific skills related to them. These concepts could
include communication, feedback, leadership and team skills, problem solving, decision making,
managing resources, budgeting, and the list continues. Essentially every department can have its
own business simulation game to learn the processes necessary. This allows the company to move
individuals internally and allow for growth within the company. Say they have an individual who
has been doing accounting for the company and want to promote them to finance manger, they can
use a business simulation game to have them better understand the tasks they will be performing as
a finance manager before having them go into it blind. Another example could be that the company
has noticed there is some lack of communication going on between the manager and his employees.
The simulator could enhance the mangers understanding of how to communicate stronger, which
can improve the satisfaction of employees. Being able to take the simulation and adjust it to the
necessary processes that the company is looking to use for

We learned how to read and understand financial reports allowing us to determine what areas
interact and how to balance the effects of decisions. We were able to learn hot to pick out the
important variables in business reports to examine our results in comparison to other teams.
General Advice It is now very clear to us that you cannot run a business half–heartedly. Clear, good
decisions cannot be made at the last minute; time and energy must be put into every decision in
order to do well in the business world. One of the most important lessons learned was never to
assume you've won before the simulation is over. We possessed the highest shareholder value for all
rollovers except the final round. Our placement dropped to fourth in the final round as a result of
poor allocation of funds due to the assumption that we couldn't be beat. When the simulation
began, we felt confident in our team's vision, goals, and strategic plan. After the first rollover, we
quickly became aware that the success of a company relies heavily on the dynamics of the market.
The strategic decisions of competitors weigh heavily on the overall direction of a company. Our
original plan quickly became obsolete in the tumultuous bike industry, and we were forced to re–
evaluate our competitive positioning. To this end, we learned

Policy Gaming For Strategy And Change Essay
Research Assignment 1
Summary: Policy Gaming for Strategy and Change
The following assignment is a summary of the article Policy Gaming for Strategy and Change that
was written by Geurts, Duke and Vermeulen in 2007. In the article, it can be read how companies
can use gaming simulations in order to analyse future scenarios and adapt certain strategies to their
complex organisational environment.
The article begins with an introduction about policy gaming, why it is becoming more useful for
today 's organisations and the statement that the unstable environment of today is a risk to
organisations strategies, and that these risks would require coming up with innovative and creative
solutions in order to solve these issues.
It is stated, that there are two functions within a game policy that directly addresses this dilemma,
namely on one hand as a customised and interactive approach and on the other as an opportunity to
shape the own future, which can be explored and analysed, due to a mixture of role–playing and
strategic simulation.
Further on, the article is divided into two parts. In the first part, the authors explain how exactly
policy gaming works, so how it is build up and how it is practiced. In the second part, the authors
make a step further and defining how powerful simulation gaming is actually by using examples,
which show the potential that simulation gaming has in real world cases. In the end, as the last part,
they are giving a conclusion and their own

APRIL 2016 INTRODUCTION What can we as teachers do to influence our learners to become
entrepreneurs? The government of Botswana has been over the years working tirelessly in trying to
curb unemployment more especially among the youth, as well as motivating them to venture into
different kinds of businesses as a way encouraging entrepreneurship and trying to diversify the
country's economy which is highly reliant on diamond exports. This includes among other things,
coming up with initiatives such as the Youth Development Fund (YDF) which exists to fund youth
businesses to help fight unemployment and poverty. One of the programs of late is the Economic
Stimulus Package (ESP) which aims at up–skilling and up–scaling unemployed youth among one of
its many mandates. Again, there is the Citizen Entrepreneurship Development Agency (CEDA)
which aims at providing financial and technical assistance to citizens to develop their businesses
(CEDA, 2016). Not only does CEDA offer financial assistance to developing businesses but also to
already existing ones. What is more, it also offers training, mentorship and advisory services to new
entrepreneurs as well as those that have been in the industry for a while. It is however worrisome

What Are the Ethical Issues in Simulation?
Ethical issues in simulation
Introduction
The ethical game simulation is designed to provide insight to ethical dilemmas faced in business
organizations and the lessons learnt assist those in the management positions, employees and other
partners to make critical decisions that if taken lightly could lead the business down the drain. The
decisions reached are to be ethical in that they have to follow the standard conduct governing the
organization that is morals and values and ensure increased ethical awareness ADDIN EN.CITE

Discussion
Ethical game simulation presents some ethical issues in an innovative manner that encourages
people to think far and wide through the different spheres in the society. In trying to find solutions
one must understand that people look at situations differently usually brought about by the different
backgrounds that we come from, identify the most natural lenses or perspective to each individual as

Business Simulation
What have you learned Business simulation is simulation used for business training or analysis.
Most business simulations are used for business acumen training and development. Learning
objectives include: strategic thinking, financial analysis, market analysis, operations, teamwork and
leadership. The business gaming community seems lately to have adopted the term business
simulation game instead of just gaming or just simulation. The word simulation is sometimes
considered too mechanistic for educational purposes. Simulation also refers to activities where an
optimum for some problem is searched for, while this is not usually the aim of an educational game.
On the other hand, the word game can imply time wasting, not taking things too ... Show more

Working Through The Marketplace Live Simulations Essay
While working through the marketplace live simulations, we had thought from the beginning the
best way to start out our company would be to first create a lower level computer which was a part
of the group workhorse. Our workhorse was a very low scale computer, only giving the customer
the basic necessities that would be needed. After creating our first product, it did not sell the way we
wanted to see we needed to go into a new direction. As the simulation had progress on, we had
turned our attention away from the workhorse brand and started to go for the better types of
computers such as the traveler and Mercedes type computers. Once we started focusing more on
these types of computers our profit was increasingly coming much larger than when we were only
looking at the workhorse.
Another aspect that really helped us grow as a company was the use of all the input that was given
after the quarter had been finished. We could go back and look what we were doing right and what
we were doing wrong. I would rate our performance to be high, even though we did not do very well
in the simulation compared to other teams we were able to pull ourselves out of last place and go
higher in ranking. We were able to look at the challenges and figure out what exactly was the
problem and what was the best solution to these challenges.

fact, we laughed and start making joke of how our market share was so small compared to others.
What did I do well during the simulation? Thinking back to the first day of the simulation until the
very last, I think what my team and I did very well was communication within the team. Although
our team doesn't seem to be very engaging with the game, however, we tried our very best to make
an improvement in each quarter. After quarter 3, we start to

Unit 4 Business Simulation Games
Over the course of being in college, there were multiple opportunities to be involved with business
simulation games. Business simulation games are a great way to take all that has been learned and
apply it to the simulations decisions. The processes involved really give someone the ability to
understand how each decision impacts the companies overall performance as a whole, and then
access the companies performance. It is also very surprising how the knowledge that has been taught
over the course of college is applied, but not directly put to pen and paper, but merely a mental
function that is not thought of until after the simulation ends. Another vital piece to the business
simulation is how managerial skills are developed overtime. To better ... Show more content on

For example, SWOT (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) analysis and TOWS (strategic

realize what the strengths of the company and then with the understanding of what opportunities are
available, the team would utilize the strengths to take advantage of the opportunities. The ability to
act upon originally taught information to us subconsciously showed how impactful the learning
experience can be. Looking back to what was explained earlier, Krathwohl's Bloom's revised
taxonomy is noticeable in the functions that were occurring during the simulation. Both dimensions
are occurring during the decision rounds and when strategic plans are created it forced further usage
of this taxonomy. Even in ERP, the taxonomy was affecting the continuing decision round processes.
Included with ERP was the ability to recognize the affects of marketing and pricing on the sales on
the products being sold. Even the knowledge of how the different functions worked without directly

Tata Stimulation Game Essay
The strategy simulation game is to provide insightful information with different scenarios which
help in understanding the differences in different market structures of monopoly, oligopoly,
monopolistic competition, and perfect competition. The overall goal of the simulation games is to
maximize Quasar's profits and be competitive by making decision on strategies in dynamic market
conditions. Simply, the total revenue minus the total costs is the method to calculate a firm's profit.
However, the company also has to consider how the sales price will affect the demand. The
simulation game shows that when the price is set too high, the demand will be low, vice versa. When
the company set the price within the average total cost curve and ... Show more content on

The second scenario is to determine how the production processes can affect the company profit.
When the demand rises, I think that upgrading production process in machineries can improve the
operation efficiency and effectiveness. Therefore, I choose to upgrade the production process and
reset the price at $2200 which generates $2.21 profits with 9.4 million units in demand.
Advertising is the most effective methods to increase sales and detailed planned marketing strategies
can assist companies in reviewing their existing position with foresight long term competitive
advantages (Dibb, 2002). Long–term brand value creation through advertising has positive effect on
brand choice because advertising is used to inform consumers about features and benefits, to
strategically position a brand and to build awareness (Jedidi, Mela, Gupta, 1999; Low Mohr,
2000, p.3). This reflects that the simulation game's demand changes according to the advertising
investment made. If the advertising budget is reduced, the demand shows reduction too. Advertising
acts as a communications platform that educate customers about the company and the products
which generate more sales (Kotler Keller, 2009).
Upgrading production process can be done in two ways. One way is through upgrading existing
tangible resources such as equipment and supplies, and the other way is to upgrading through
intangible resources such as

Module 5 Simulation Summary
To maximize net worth over the course of module 6, I focused on completing orders as fast and
efficiently as possible. Using a combination of timing, effectively ordering materials and prioritizing
orders, I maximized production and turnover. During the simulation, I found bidding on contracts
that allowed the longest time frames for completion with the highest payouts was the most effective
strategy. I was able to bid on contracts I knew I would secure and order materials during the same
turn. I was able to be even further ahead and I had a lot more leniency while manufacturing each
order. In the beginning of the simulation, I focused on acquiring all my workers within the first few
turns. I hired five employees who had three–star ratings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To achieve a high net income and be effective in fulfilling contracts in the simulation, it was
important to have a strategy set in place. This requires a standard of control over how the business
was going to operate and fulfill orders effectively. In order to gain a higher reputation to secure
higher value contracts within the game, I worked to acquire specific contracts and purchasing
materials to produce the items that would be shipped out to customers. I also found it important to
have employees who were highly skilled within each area that they were employed in order to
maximize the production process. By having higher skilled employees, I found it easier to
continually fulfill contracts at a constant rate as and minimize slack between each area of
production. I also found it highly important within the simulation to be able to adapt quickly to
changing market and contact requirements because each required a different set of machines,
number of materials and time to be produced. It was very important to understand the time constants
in order to effectively produce and fulfill each contract within the time that was allotted. Having a
diversified production process was also important so that the production process wasn't constrained
to producing one type of contract. Through the game, I learned the

The term ``case method ' ' has come to refer to a wide range of teaching styles and objectives that
can be adopted within the use of case studies for teaching (Dooley and Skinner, 1977). It has been
proposed that the case method can be used to: . gain illustration of particular points, issues or
managerial principles; . provide managers with a neutral situation in which they are free to explore
problems (because they are not their own); . relate theory to practice; . confront the complexities of
specific situations; . develop analysis and synthesis; . develop self–analysis, attitudes, confidence,
responsibility; . develop interpersonal skills, communication and listening; and . develop judgement
and wisdom and enliven teaching. The method may gain the student 's intellectual and emotional
involvement and assist the long–term retention of understanding and bring realism into instructional
settings (Romm and Mahler, 1991; Osigweh, 1989; Smith, 1987; Christensen and Hansen, 1987;
Dooley and Skinner, 1977). The case method is not without its limitations. Cases may be limited in
the extent to which they present the realities of an organization. Yin (1989) comments that a case
need not reflect a complete or accurate rendition of actual events; its purpose is to establish a
framework for discussion among students. Similarly Towl (1969) describing case writing at Harvard

a multi–stage supply chain with minimal expenditure on back orders and inventory. There are four
stages, manufacturer, distributor, supplier, retailer, with a two–week communication gap of orders

is a one–point cost for holding excess inventory and a one–point cost for any backlog (old backlog +

Suppliers, manufacturers, sales people, and customers have their own, often incomplete,
understanding of what real demand is. Each group has control over only a part of the supply chain,
but each group can influence the entire chain by ordering too much or too little. Further, each group
is influenced by decisions that others are making. This lack of coordination coupled with the ability
to influence while being influenced by others leads to what Stanford's Hau Lee refers to as the
Bullwhip Effect. It refers to the effect that the amount of periodical orders amplifies as one moves
upstream in the supply chain towards the production end. Even in the face of stable customer
demand small variations in demand at the retail end tend to dramatically amplify upstream the
supply chain with the effect that order amounts are very erratic, and can be very high in one week
and almost zero in the next

KUGY tried to adapt production to such a level where our team would not have any car in stock at

Moreover KUGY tried to decrease its labour cost and invest in automation instead. Our team
decided it will suit our company strategy and image and to have three extremely technologized
production plants, with small but very skilled labour forces. We achieved further trade–offs
concerning our marketing efforts. In regards to the four Ps, including price, product, place and
promotion, KUGY took the decision to focus on all four would have opposed our strategy
implemented in the beginning. Hence, we focused our marketing strategy on product and promotion.
As previously mentioned, we have invested significant sums in the development of our products, by
investing in research and development over the rounds of the game, but also by adding and dropping
features into sectors that seemed to be of significance to our customers and hence rose perceived
benefits of our products from year to year. In addition to this advertising expenses were similarly

Designing A Representative Model Of Real World Environments
Most of the previous types of simulations and simulators referenced evaluating methods and
effective practices. In the distant past technological advancement in the form of medical training
mannequins or board games were the bulk of technology based simulators. With the growth of the
computer industry, we are naturally increasing our use of computerized technology. Simulation is
absolutely no exception to this. Computer simulations have become one of the greatest and most
common ways of creating a representative model of real world environments. Steadman, Coates,
Huang, Matevosian, Larmon, McCullough, and Ariel (2006) pointed out the spread of simulations in
the medical fields:
Fueled by the increasing emphasis on interactive medical education, the use of patient simulation
has spread from anesthesiology to a growing list of disciplines including emergency medicine,
radiology, pediatrics, neonatology, trauma, nursing, other allied health professions, and military and
disaster management. The applications of simulation range from routine skills and critical event
training to competency assessment. (p. 151)
The use of simulators has even seen an increase in entertainment circles with computer games such
as Flight Sim by Microsoft, Simcity originally by Electronic Arts and Maxis, and Sid Meier 's
Civilization originally by MicroProse. The value of these simulators lies in their ability to recreate
aircraft piloting, government administration, or historical society growth

Thus, in my workplace our shifts tend to focus more on intangible factors, such as employee
productivity, customer satisfaction and repeat business. In the business of telephone customer
service, we view our supply and demand in terms of how well we are meeting the demand of calls
coming in and how well we supply the desire of our customers to have their issues resolved in a
timely manner. During periods of high demand, such as the holiday season, we staff more
employees to work the phones. Similar to the situation in scenario 2, we have to be certain that the
number of representatives on the phone is still profitable by the business, so while there may be a
small wait time for a customer to speak with an agent, it is more profitable for the customer to have
a five minute wait than to put twenty more people on the phone to meet that increased business
need. Macroeconomic principles come into play when the whole market or more outside factors are
involved. Examples of this in the video game industry, which I work in, would be when the rating
system for games are under scrutiny, or when a new console is put on the market as competition.
These outside factors affect not only the company I work for, but every other company in the
industry, from the hardware manufacturers such as Microsoft and Sony, but also the game studios
such as Activision, EA and Rockstar Games. Microeconomic principles are caused by and effect
only my company in particular, such

Everyone in class made their decisions independently such as hiring the people based on their skills,
experience, work ethics and other factors and assigning different tasks to them according to the
requirement in specific period. The framework how the simulation works and it's rules can be
learned in a very small duration. Our instructor explained it clearly and helped us in taking our first
period decisions in the class. She cleared our various questions like when there are chances to get
the penalty and how we can take our decisions efficiently without losing our budget amount. Thus,
there are no perfect rules for how to win a simulation game, it just requires the efficient and mind
boggling decision making. So the best way is to analyze is take on the performance in all the
previous periods before taking decisions for the current period. I learned a lot from the Sim4 Project

other positions. The distributor's role is to get stuff from a manufacturer or other wholesaler and then
distribute that stuff to resellers. From reading the instructions, it appears that there are actually
different roles to play in the project, but I actually logged in from different computers to see if I
would get to play another role in the game, but every time I ended up in the distributor role. One of
the interesting things about the simulation was that one did not start from scratch in the project.
Instead, the simulation is already running and is in a certain week of production and distribution
when the student enters into the stimulation. This means that the student gets both the benefit and
the burden of work done by prior students. In my scenario, this ended up having a very detrimental
impact on me, because I began with a tremendous backlog of product that my retailers had ordered
from me. I cannot tell if the person before me was placing small orders or if they were

Capstone Reflection

  • 1. Capstone Reflection Greetings MBA Students! Several of you have requested more information on the "reflection paper" so I am providing more explicit instructions below: 1. The paper should be 3–5 pages long, double– spaced, 1–inch margins all around, 11–pt Times New Roman font. (I won't be a stickler on these details). 2.There is no single "right" content expected for the reflection paper; that is, different people can be expected to reflect uniquely on the simulation experience. Just think about your simulation experience for a while and then write about what stands out to you. 3. You should keep in mind that this is a capstone/strategy class; accordingly, your "reflections" may address strategic (rare, consequential, directive) issues, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, we decided that we needed to pick a business strategy and stick with it to develop in key markets and create success with all having the same goal in mind. Once we keyed in on that and made our decisions based on our own calculation and predictions, we started to see greater results. Most businesses do not get a practice round to see if they will make it in the business world as we did before we actually began and get a clean slate to try again. In reality, if we would have had a failed business venture, it would have resulted in a huge loss and we would have learned from our mistakes and had to invest more money on another attempt. Luckily, that was not the case, and we were able to make more analyzed decisions and complete the simulation quite successfully. The overwhelming part of the simulation was the time it took in making the decisions, when you have three CEO's who think very differently. Once we realized the decisions actually do need to be thought out and discussed, which took typically three to four hours of our own time outside class, we started to see results. In the beginning, we really underestimated the amount of time was needed to make educated decisions. Also, I felt just as we got the hang of the project and adjusted our strategy, more decisions were added, which took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a "big picture" course, i.e. instead of concentrating narrowly on a particular function or unit of the business, you must examine the total organization and environment within which it operates, and analyse the causes of its success or failure. Managers today ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3.0 Business Strategy Game (BSG) Overview (BSG Period Week 7 to 12) 3.1 General management of the firm and strategy implementation The BSG emphasizes the integrative skills and perspectives required for general management of a firm. In order to develop this set of skills, you will need to draw on things you have been taught in functional areas such as accounting, finance and marketing and learn how those different functional areas work together in a successful enterprise. The best – and most painful – way to learn those integrative skills is by spending a number of years working as general manager of a firm. The closest we can get in the classroom is good competitive business simulation. We will use a computer–aided competitive simulation in the first part of the course to give you some experience dealing with the challenges of general management. The Business Strategy Game is a computer simulation game that is designed to help students understand the challenge of managing a business and create an integrated, capstone experience. It will provide you with a realistic competitive environment, albeit a simulated one, that will require you to utilize everything that you have learned in the past several years as a business major. In addition, there are several other dimensions to the game that will help to prepare you for the "real" world that you are going to face soon. First, you will be asked to work closely with others. • 5. Marketing Simulation : Target Market, 4p's Of Marketing,... The marketing simulation allows us to develop a solid knowledge in the field of marketing. It helped to implement the marketing strategy in a lifelike environment and enhance our skills. We were able to implement all aspects of the marketing strategy including target market, product design, pricing, marketing communication mix, media selection, promotion, and place. Throughout the simulation, all 4ps marketing elements have been developed. The aim of this paper is to cover how each area of the simulation relates to what we have discussed in the class. We are going to discuss target market, 4p's of marketing, performance metrics and research data. TARGET MARKET Figure out the typical customers is the first marketing strategy. Business should find the right customers who would by your product and tailor and focus its marketing effort toward them. Thus, this target market represents the group of customer offering greatest opportunity. The simulation marketing game helped me develop a great solid knowledge and skills on how to define the target market. The Various target markets have different demographic, psychographic characteristics, products use demands, price sensitivity and other preferences. Knowing different characteristics that differentiate the market segments was helpful in choosing the right target market. During this simulation, we came up with several characteristics that make the particular target market to be unique. These segments vary in size and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. How Do Video Games Help In The Educational System? The Videogaming industry is one of the largest parts of the entertainment industry. Most gamers might cite that gaming is fun or a positive way to spend an afternoon, while those opposed to the idea only see it as a waste of time. Throughout the home gaming lifespan, it has had lots of success. The Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the Wii all sold roughly two hundred million units certainly proves this statement. With this in mind, we can see that gaming carries a lot of influence, especially with the younger crowd; moreover, what you did not know is that gaming technology could be easily applied to other systems to make them better than they were before. That is correct, video games can improve our everyday functions. The argument presented will not be whether or not to see if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The current developments could not only be used to enhance the educational system, but, could be used in both major construction projects and various careers of importance. The Educational system has long been outdated, most bigger high schools do not have access to the critical educational systems that they require. One way we could revamp this system is with video games. Now, one question that might be raised, is how would videogames help in the educational system? One way videogames help is through the training and honing of the data retention skill. Memorizing basic abilities and learning to use your learned skills to survive in the game enforces the positive light of remembering things equals rewards. Without memorizing and practicing those advanced moves, your progress will be heavily limited. This re–enforces the idea of retaining data in order to make yourself better. To further back up my point, Sarah D. Sparks writes about Daphne Balimer, and how she talked of how "regular but not obsessive playing of action games does not lower students' ability to pay attention. In fact... game playing can improve students' attention control" (Sparks 1). Without a single doubt, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Organizational Group Dynamics and Politics Essay Group Dynamics and Politics Within Organizations Individuals have their own personalities that can influence their enthusiasm and productivity within an organization. In addition, individuals also form groups and are part of teams that work together to reach a common goal within organization. According to Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly, and Konopaske (2009) dedicated and cohesive teams can have a tremendous impact on organizations effectiveness and the global market. However, all of this happens within the frame–work of office politics and can hinder or enhance the organization's effectiveness. Therefore, it is important to not only understand individuals, but also groups, teams and office politics within the organization. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third phase is when the group decides they need to get the project completed before time runs out and there is the final burst of energy. This model works well with projects and groups that have deadlines to reach their objectives. For example, the sustainability committee at the National Environmental Health Association was tasked with writing a white paper on how the organization viewed and was dealing with the issue of sustainability. The group identified tasks and then everyone worked on their part. The committee then reviewed the work that was done and determined next steps and the work moved along until the group realized they only had a month left to finish the project. There was a burst of energy form the group members to finish the project on time. Once the project was completed, the committee went back to their normal level of participation and activity. From this example, it is clear that groups can and do follow the punctuated equilibrium model. However, once the special project was over, the committee went back to their normal group activity. This suggests that both group development models are relevant based on the needs and purpose of the group. Group formation, development and outcomes are complicated and there are many factors that play a role in how they will function (Gibson, et al., 2009). • 16. Half Life Research Paper Half Life, everybody loves Half Life right? One of the most successful games in history, it's been given countless awards in the time since it's release. With people to this day still developing Half Life mods you'd expect them to have built upon the original to try to improve its quality. Some, like Black Mesa have, others, like Sven Co–op have most certainly not. Now don't get me wrong, it has nothing bad about it in principle, the idea was to add multiplayer missions to Half Life and allow players to combine their strength against bots. On paper the idea of multiplayer Half Life sounds amazing, however all things come at a cost, and this mod paid that cost dearly. In terms of its original function Sven co–op serves its purpose fine, with players all on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found the AI had much higher numbers than the players on every server, reaching upwards of 300 enemies in 10 minutes on some. The servers actually had at most 32 or so players but that many can cause a lot of damage. So much havoc was caused in fact, that the players could lag the server to a halt. Unfortunately for the game this took very little to manage, because when such a large group of people are all causing explosions and banging on walls, or all trying to fit down one passageway while trying to hit each other with crowbars. So the servers lag out too easily, of course, I imagine a lot of games would have this problem if the players could run amok too. However part of the blame for this rests with Half Life, its engine wasn't built to support 32 living players working together and heavy instances of AI beside them. There were other errors and problems that aren't the fault of Valve, like the fact that there was no way to mute players spamming the voice and text chat (and boy did they), or that the guns either did virtually no damage to enemies or would one shot them every ... By thinking ahead, senior managers can implement a process that takes into account the strategic thinking workshop approach put forward by Graetz, (2002, pp. 458–9). The advantage of this approach will be realised when staff from around the world are brought together on a problem– solving exercise. It is also necessary to take into account the communicative skill gaps that exist and what type of interpersonal skills are needed, and this is especially true in the ` context of decision making vis–a–vis strategic alliances, for example (Trim and Lee, 2003). What needs to be understood, however, is how individuals from different cultures relate to people from outside their cultural value system. The key issues which surface are issues such as the appropriate way in which to communicate within the organisation's hierarchy, and if necessary, how to communicate with government representatives. Therefore, training and staff development personnel in international organisations need to identify which ` type of simulation exercises will be most suitable for training staff vis–a–vis careers in an international organisational setting. Human resource management specialists will, therefore, need to develop staff development programmes that enable an individual employee to develop their skill base continually. This means, according to Blunden (1997, p. 277), that an individual needs to develop an ability to transfer his/her learning and skills from one situation to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Cyber Attack And Cyber Attacks Essay Most nations today fear terror attacks that include bombing use of reinforcements like machines guns and other firearms. This is because terror attacks most of the times leave many people dead and others disabled while others are left without families. However, there is another attack today in many nations that can be destructive like a terror attack and this is the cyber–attack and threats. Cyber–attacks can be responsible for large mass destructions by making all systems connected to cyber networks fail to work (Rhodes 20). An example is the Morris worm that affected the world cyber infrastructures and caused them to slow down to a position of being impractical. Therefore, as a result of these cyber–attacks resources are being established and designed to help counter the attacks. Cyber threat simulation is one of the resources that have been deployed to help deal with cyber– attacks. A cyber threat simulation is an approach where a real life attack is imitated and used to test how a firm using cyber infrastructures can respond to the threat (Montana and UcedaVelez 579). A threat is created where there exist two groups in one company the group bringing in the threat to the company and the group responsible for finding a solution to fight the threat. Simulations help to measure the speed of a real attack and how long it takes the company to respond to the threat. Cyber security industry has decided to establish new ways to measure the speed of threats rather than relying on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Beer Simulation Root Beer Simulation At the outset, I have to acknowledge that I had a problem with this simulation. Initially, in my first two orders, I confused the backlog and inventory sections, so that I believed I had a significant surplus in inventory. Therefore, rather than minimizing the bullwhip of supply and demand, I exacerbated the problem by limiting my supply well below the number of orders coming in, much less below what I could fill with the backlog and incoming orders. This error on my part certainly led to increasing instability, not only in my own incoming orders, but also in the entire supply chain. The simulation also kept auto–filling my initial order, which was only 10,000 cases, despite me ordering a significantly larger number of cases. I could not get the simulation to operate properly and allow me to place a larger order. It kept auto–ordering the 10,000 cases. I could not get it to place an order other than 10,000 cases. Because of this glitch, I continued to increase my backlog. I simply could not order more than 10,000 cases. I address this issue because the glitch certainly impacted my opinion of the computer simulation as a means of learning. In this scenario, the initial computer simulation was absolutely worthless as a learning tool. I made an error in my first order, but I do not think that error was meaningful. Instead, it appears that whatever number of cases I placed in my initial order would be the number of cases ordered over the next several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But Julian Dibbel's investigation in Tijuana revealed how players could transform procedures into self–serving, manipulative machines. Profiteering is likely not the lesson Bogost–or Epistemic Games for that matter–hoped to teach players. But what is the difference between Epistemic Games transferring players' power into solutions to real–life problems and Blacksnow transferring power into real–life profit? Simply stated, it is the players' motivation. More complexly stated, a game like Candy Crush commits no moral error by placing players into a work–based system of economic growth. This would make sense since games now have real–life applications and implications. But all things considered, the difference between a game and a simulation is arbitrary and based strictly on one's definition of each term. If the difference relies on how realistic the game is in its mechanics and play style, then Call of Duty might as well be called a combat simulator. Does a VR set such as the Oculus Rift–along with the still–in–development rifle–shaped controller and multi–direction gaming treadmill–automatically turn a game into a simulation? Perhaps every game is a low–stakes simulation of its real life counterparts. Pit, then, is a non–digital, non–profit simulation of stock market trading...that is, of course, unless one started playing for money. Then, does the inclusion of money turn a game into a simulation, or even into work? These terms are debatable. What is clear is the driving factor behind why games are made–beyond artistic expression, though not mutually exclusive of it, is the desire for profit. The gaming industry, much like the motion picture industry, is a business, driven by profit. Whether other companies design games for other uses–to teach or to problem–solve–is outside the scope of what the industry (not so much the indie developers) prides itself on. Executive Summary Everest, is a simulation game created by a collaboration between Forio Business Simulations and Harvard Business School, in which the objective is to virtually climb to the top of the world, Mount Everest. The gruelling virtual climb is meant to reflect real life problems of climbing a mountain, such as oxygen scarcity, volatile health conditions, and unpredictable weather. One of the main features of the climb however is the students who are thrown randomly in groups of 5–7, and are expected to collaborate and ultimately climb to the summit. The intuitive design of the simulation gives each team member a wide variety of information, distinct goals, and one role. The information is intentionally restricted towards certain individuals due to their roles. The goals are aligned with the roles of group member, the team leader's goal is to get everyone to the top of summit. There was two attempts in climbing the mountain. The first approach involved an autocratic leadership style, combined with limited communication, and group conformity ended in unsatisfactory results. The second time, with lessons learned from the first attempt, was overall better, as tasks was delegated, combined with shared decision making and improved communication, showed a significant improvement in performance. Although, Everest is an oversimplification of various organisational models, the experiences received for the team, as well as myself were tremendous. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Simulations create scenarios where nursing students can manipulate variables and make a clinical decision after seeing the results. 3D simulation can mimic the real clinical situation and encourage students to make decisions they would make at work. One of the great perks of having the business simulation is that it can be used for all employees, new and seasoned, to be able to develop further knowledge. With simulations they do not all have to be complex, like having all the business processes of the organization. The simulation could simply have specific skills related to them. These concepts could include communication, feedback, leadership and team skills, problem solving, decision making, managing resources, budgeting, and the list continues. Essentially every department can have its own business simulation game to learn the processes necessary. This allows the company to move individuals internally and allow for growth within the company. Say they have an individual who has been doing accounting for the company and want to promote them to finance manger, they can use a business simulation game to have them better understand the tasks they will be performing as a finance manager before having them go into it blind. Another example could be that the company has noticed there is some lack of communication going on between the manager and his employees. The simulator could enhance the mangers understanding of how to communicate stronger, which can improve the satisfaction of employees. Policy Gaming For Strategy And Change Essay Research Assignment 1 Summary: Policy Gaming for Strategy and Change The following assignment is a summary of the article Policy Gaming for Strategy and Change that was written by Geurts, Duke and Vermeulen in 2007. In the article, it can be read how companies can use gaming simulations in order to analyse future scenarios and adapt certain strategies to their complex organisational environment. The article begins with an introduction about policy gaming, why it is becoming more useful for today 's organisations and the statement that the unstable environment of today is a risk to organisations strategies, and that these risks would require coming up with innovative and creative solutions in order to solve these issues. It is stated, that there are two functions within a game policy that directly addresses this dilemma, namely on one hand as a customised and interactive approach and on the other as an opportunity to shape the own future, which can be explored and analysed, due to a mixture of role–playing and strategic simulation. Further on, the article is divided into two parts. In the first part, the authors explain how exactly policy gaming works, so how it is build up and how it is practiced. In the second part, the authors make a step further and defining how powerful simulation gaming is actually by using examples, which show the potential that simulation gaming has in real world cases. The government of Botswana has been over the years working tirelessly in trying to curb unemployment more especially among the youth, as well as motivating them to venture into different kinds of businesses as a way encouraging entrepreneurship and trying to diversify the country's economy which is highly reliant on diamond exports. This includes among other things, coming up with initiatives such as the Youth Development Fund (YDF) which exists to fund youth businesses to help fight unemployment and poverty. One of the programs of late is the Economic Stimulus Package (ESP) which aims at up–skilling and up–scaling unemployed youth among one of its many mandates. Again, there is the Citizen Entrepreneurship Development Agency (CEDA) which aims at providing financial and technical assistance to citizens to develop their businesses (CEDA, 2016). Working Through The Marketplace Live Simulations Essay While working through the marketplace live simulations, we had thought from the beginning the best way to start out our company would be to first create a lower level computer which was a part of the group workhorse. Our workhorse was a very low scale computer, only giving the customer the basic necessities that would be needed. After creating our first product, it did not sell the way we wanted to see we needed to go into a new direction. As the simulation had progress on, we had turned our attention away from the workhorse brand and started to go for the better types of computers such as the traveler and Mercedes type computers. Once we started focusing more on these types of computers our profit was increasingly coming much larger than when we were only looking at the workhorse. Another aspect that really helped us grow as a company was the use of all the input that was given after the quarter had been finished. We could go back and look what we were doing right and what we were doing wrong. I would rate our performance to be high, even though we did not do very well in the simulation compared to other teams we were able to pull ourselves out of last place and go higher in ranking. It is also very surprising how the knowledge that has been taught over the course of college is applied, but not directly put to pen and paper, but merely a mental function that is not thought of until after the simulation ends. Another vital piece to the business simulation is how managerial skills are developed overtime. To better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, SWOT (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) analysis and TOWS (strategic alternative) analysis are both subconsciously occurring during the decision rounds. The team would realize what the strengths of the company and then with the understanding of what opportunities are available, the team would utilize the strengths to take advantage of the opportunities. The ability to act upon originally taught information to us subconsciously showed how impactful the learning experience can be. Looking back to what was explained earlier, Krathwohl's Bloom's revised taxonomy is noticeable in the functions that were occurring during the simulation. Both dimensions are occurring during the decision rounds and when strategic plans are created it forced further usage of this taxonomy. Even in ERP, the taxonomy was affecting the continuing decision round processes. Included with ERP was the ability to recognize the affects of marketing and pricing on the sales on the products being sold. Even the knowledge of how the different functions worked without directly thinking about it shows the abilities of simulation and how valuable they can be to increasing knowledge and ... Tata Stimulation Game Essay The strategy simulation game is to provide insightful information with different scenarios which help in understanding the differences in different market structures of monopoly, oligopoly, monopolistic competition, and perfect competition. The overall goal of the simulation games is to maximize Quasar's profits and be competitive by making decision on strategies in dynamic market conditions. Simply, the total revenue minus the total costs is the method to calculate a firm's profit. However, the company also has to consider how the sales price will affect the demand. The simulation game shows that when the price is set too high, the demand will be low, vice versa. When the company set the price within the average total cost curve and ... When the demand rises, I think that upgrading production process in machineries can improve the operation efficiency and effectiveness. Therefore, I choose to upgrade the production process and reset the price at $2200 which generates $2.21 profits with 9.4 million units in demand. Advertising is the most effective methods to increase sales and detailed planned marketing strategies can assist companies in reviewing their existing position with foresight long term competitive advantages (Dibb, 2002). Long–term brand value creation through advertising has positive effect on brand choice because advertising is used to inform consumers about features and benefits, to strategically position a brand and to build awareness (Jedidi, Mela, Gupta, 1999; Low Mohr, 2000, p.3). This reflects that the simulation game's demand changes according to the advertising investment made. If the advertising budget is reduced, the demand shows reduction too. Advertising acts as a communications platform that educate customers about the company and the products which generate more sales (Kotler Keller, 2009). Upgrading production process can be done in two ways. One way is through upgrading existing tangible resources such as equipment and supplies, and the other way is to upgrading through intangible resources such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using a combination of timing, effectively ordering materials and prioritizing orders, I maximized production and turnover. During the simulation, I found bidding on contracts that allowed the longest time frames for completion with the highest payouts was the most effective strategy. I was able to bid on contracts I knew I would secure and order materials during the same turn. I was able to be even further ahead and I had a lot more leniency while manufacturing each order. In the beginning of the simulation, I focused on acquiring all my workers within the first few turns. I hired five employees who had three–star ratings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To achieve a high net income and be effective in fulfilling contracts in the simulation, it was important to have a strategy set in place. This requires a standard of control over how the business was going to operate and fulfill orders effectively. In order to gain a higher reputation to secure higher value contracts within the game, I worked to acquire specific contracts and purchasing materials to produce the items that would be shipped out to customers. I also found it important to have employees who were highly skilled within each area that they were employed in order to maximize the production process. By having higher skilled employees, I found it easier to continually fulfill contracts at a constant rate as and minimize slack between each area of production. I also found it highly important within the simulation to be able to adapt quickly to changing market and contact requirements because each required a different set of machines, number of materials and time to be produced. It was very important to understand the time constants in order to effectively produce and fulfill each contract within the time that was allotted. Having a diversified production process was also important so that the production process wasn't constrained to producing one type of contract. Through the game, I learned the ... The term ``case method ' ' has come to refer to a wide range of teaching styles and objectives that can be adopted within the use of case studies for teaching (Dooley and Skinner, 1977). It has been proposed that the case method can be used to: . gain illustration of particular points, issues or managerial principles; . provide managers with a neutral situation in which they are free to explore problems (because they are not their own); . relate theory to practice; . confront the complexities of specific situations; . develop analysis and synthesis; . develop self–analysis, attitudes, confidence, responsibility; . develop interpersonal skills, communication and listening; and . develop judgement and wisdom and enliven teaching. The method may gain the student 's intellectual and emotional involvement and assist the long–term retention of understanding and bring realism into instructional settings (Romm and Mahler, 1991; Osigweh, 1989; Smith, 1987; Christensen and Hansen, 1987; Dooley and Skinner, 1977). The case method is not without its limitations. Cases may be limited in the extent to which they present the realities of an organization. Yin (1989) comments that a case need not reflect a complete or accurate rendition of actual events; its purpose is to establish a framework for discussion among students. Supply Chain Game Board Game The object of the game is to meet customer demand for cases of beer through the distribution side of a multi–stage supply chain with minimal expenditure on back orders and inventory. There are four stages, manufacturer, distributor, supplier, retailer, with a two–week communication gap of orders toward the upstream and a two week supply chain delay of product towards the downstream. There is a one–point cost for holding excess inventory and a one–point cost for any backlog (old backlog + orders – current inventory). Suppliers, manufacturers, sales people, and customers have their own, often incomplete, understanding of what real demand is. Each group has control over only a part of the supply chain, but each group can influence the entire chain by ordering too much or too little. Further, each group is influenced by decisions that others are making. This lack of coordination coupled with the ability to influence while being influenced by others leads to what Stanford's Hau Lee refers to as the Bullwhip Effect. It refers to the effect that the amount of periodical orders amplifies as one moves upstream in the supply chain towards the production end. Even in the face of stable customer demand small variations in demand at the retail end tend to dramatically amplify upstream the supply chain with the effect that order amounts are very erratic, and can be very high in one week and almost zero in the next ... Business Simulation Game Competition and Strategy Business Game 15th April 2014 The aim of the Competition and Strategy course is to provide students with deep knowledge on strategic decision–making in a business environment and the strategic principles behind it. Within this course my team members Kristijan, Yaniv, George and me (Team KUGY) had the opportunity to apply our academic and theoretical understanding and knowledge in an online business simulation game, wherein we created our own car business and competed on the European car market fictionally. This paper aims to elucidate the advance of our strategic decision–making, observes the reasoning behind it and examines the following implementation of our approach. Founded on the definition of ... KUGY tried to adapt production to such a level where our team would not have any car in stock at the end of each business year and normally succeeded in this concern with minor exceptions. Moreover KUGY tried to decrease its labour cost and invest in automation instead. Our team decided it will suit our company strategy and image and to have three extremely technologized production plants, with small but very skilled labour forces. We achieved further trade–offs concerning our marketing efforts. In regards to the four Ps, including price, product, place and promotion, KUGY took the decision to focus on all four would have opposed our strategy implemented in the beginning. Hence, we focused our marketing strategy on product and promotion. As previously mentioned, we have invested significant sums in the development of our products, by investing in research and development over the rounds of the game, but also by adding and dropping features into sectors that seemed to be of significance to our customers and hence rose perceived benefits of our products from year to year. In addition to this advertising expenses were similarly high too, because of the fact that KUGY recognized communicating the benefits of both our efforts and our products to generate superior customer value as a first priority. George constantly highlighted that even the greatest product in the car market would not sell if its ascendancy or predominance were not communicated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Designing A Representative Model Of Real World Environments Most of the previous types of simulations and simulators referenced evaluating methods and effective practices. In the distant past technological advancement in the form of medical training mannequins or board games were the bulk of technology based simulators. With the growth of the computer industry, we are naturally increasing our use of computerized technology. Simulation is absolutely no exception to this. Computer simulations have become one of the greatest and most common ways of creating a representative model of real world environments. Steadman, Coates, Huang, Matevosian, Larmon, McCullough, and Ariel (2006) pointed out the spread of simulations in the medical fields: Fueled by the increasing emphasis on interactive medical education, the use of patient simulation has spread from anesthesiology to a growing list of disciplines including emergency medicine, radiology, pediatrics, neonatology, trauma, nursing, other allied health professions, and military and disaster management. The applications of simulation range from routine skills and critical event training to competency assessment. (p. 151) The use of simulators has even seen an increase in entertainment circles with computer games such as Flight Sim by Microsoft, Simcity originally by Electronic Arts and Maxis, and Sid Meier 's Civilization originally by MicroProse. The value of these simulators lies in their ability to recreate aircraft piloting, government administration, or historical society growth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The simulation takes a look at several different situations, outside market factors and governmental influence. In the business of telephone customer service, we view our supply and demand in terms of how well we are meeting the demand of calls coming in and how well we supply the desire of our customers to have their issues resolved in a timely manner. During periods of high demand, such as the holiday season, we staff more employees to work the phones. Similar to the situation in scenario 2, we have to be certain that the number of representatives on the phone is still profitable by the business, so while there may be a small wait time for a customer to speak with an agent, it is more profitable for the customer to have a five minute wait than to put twenty more people on the phone to meet that increased business need. Macroeconomic principles come into play when the whole market or more outside factors are involved. Examples of this in the video game industry, which I work in, would be when the rating system for games are under scrutiny, or when a new console is put on the market as competition. These outside factors affect not only the company I work for, but every other company in the industry, from the hardware manufacturers such as Microsoft and Sony, but also the game studios such as Activision, EA and Rockstar Games. Everyone in class made their decisions independently such as hiring the people based on their skills, experience, work ethics and other factors and assigning different tasks to them according to the requirement in specific period. The framework how the simulation works and it's rules can be learned in a very small duration. Our instructor explained it clearly and helped us in taking our first period decisions in the class. She cleared our various questions like when there are chances to get the penalty and how we can take our decisions efficiently without losing our budget amount. Thus, there are no perfect rules for how to win a simulation game, it just requires the efficient and mind boggling decision making. So the best way is to analyze is take on the performance in all the previous periods before taking decisions for the current period. I learned a lot from the Sim4 Project simulation game. The best part for this game was that everyone in class was playing against each other and not with the artificial intelligence, which helped in creating the environment for students, where they can actually apply their strategies by bidding for different resources. The Beer Simulation Root Beer Simulation From what I could see, there were not multiple roles to play in this simulation; instead, everyone logging into the simulation appears to play the same role, which was that of the distributor ordering products from the manufacturer and attempting to get them to the customers. This is an important point, because in many ways a distributor has greater flexibility than a retailer and a manufacturer, but, in other ways, faces far greater constraints than business people in other positions. The distributor's role is to get stuff from a manufacturer or other wholesaler and then distribute that stuff to resellers. From reading the instructions, it appears that there are actually different roles to play in the project, but I actually logged in from different computers to see if I would get to play another role in the game, but every time I ended up in the distributor role. One of the interesting things about the simulation was that one did not start from scratch in the project. Instead, the simulation is already running and is in a certain week of production and distribution when the student enters into the stimulation. This means that the student gets both the benefit and the burden of work done by prior students. In my scenario, this ended up having a very detrimental impact on me, because I began with a tremendous backlog of product that my retailers had ordered from me.
