Editor's Notes

  • #2 Welcome and thank you for being here today.
  • #4  Cambridge International Examinations is the world's largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 5 to 19 year olds. Our programmes and qualifications develop successful students in over 160 countries - hundreds of thousands of learners a year follow a Cambridge education. Cambridge International Examinations is valued by over 9,000 schools worldwide. We recently ran a survey with our schools, and 98% of schools who replied said they would recommend Cambridge to other schools. And we are growing fast. The number of entries for our programmes from around the world has increased by 17% in the past year.
  • #5  Our global community of Cambridge schools are spread all around the world – the areas in green on the map. Around half of our schools work directly with us. The other half work with us through governments – and we work with governments in over 40 countries and more than 30 ministries of education. So Cambridge is not only the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 5 to 19 year olds. We see Cambridge as a unique worldwide learning community.
  • #6  So why choose Cambridge? We understand education. Our mission is to provide excellence in education, and our vision is that Cambridge learners become confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged. Learners are at the heart of everything we do and we support learner-centred approaches to education. We believe in setting educational standards and then encouraging learners to exceed them. Cambridge International Examinations provides internationally recognised and respected qualifications. Every year, thousands of learners with Cambridge gain the qualifications they need to enter the world’s top universities; including those in the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore, Egypt, Jordan, South Africa, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain. Cambridge qualifications have a proven reputation for being an excellent preparation for university, employment and life. They are recognised by universities and employers worldwide, providing learners with a passport to global success. We are committed to providing qualifications and education programmes that are relevant, accurate, reliable, affordable and recognised by universities and employers worldwide. Cambridge programmes and qualifications are flexible to integrate and stimulating to teach. Schools can choose all or part of our provision to suit their learners’ needs. Cambridge programmes and qualifications have a clear structure to guide the progression of their learners from the start of primary to the end of secondary education. They enable learners to build their knowledge and skills progressively, to prepare them for the next stage of their education. Cambridge also provides access to first class support for teachers through publications, online resources, training and professional development. Let me talk you through each of these benefits one by one.
  • #7  We have developed guiding concepts of the Cambridge learner and Cambridge teacher to help communicate our educational values and make sure our professional development is as relevant and useful as possible. The Cambridge learner and Cambridge teacher qualities are aspirational. The decision as to how and what extent the qualities are adopted lies with each school, with support from Cambridge. The Cambridge approach supports schools to develop learners who are: Confident in working with information and ideas – their own and those of others. Responsible for themselves, responsible to and respectful of others Reflective as learners, developing their ability to learn Innovative and equipped for new and future challenges Engaged intellectually and socially, ready to make a difference We support Cambridge teachers to become: Confident in teaching their subject and engaging each student in learning Responsible for themselves, responsive to and respectful of others Reflective as learners themselves, developing their practice Innovative and equipped for new and future challenges Engaged intellectually, professionally and socially, ready to make a difference
  • #8  Cambridge programmes and qualifications are carefully designed to engage your learners and give them solid foundations to achieve high levels of academic and personal attainment. The programmes are progressive, giving you and your learners a clearly defined path to success from 5 to 19 years. Our four stages lead seamlessly from primary to secondary and pre-university years, and each stage builds on the learners’ development from the previous one. We offer flexibility, allowing you to shape Cambridge curricula to the needs and abilities of your learners. You can offer our programmes and qualifications for learners at every stage, or focus on specific ones. Our programmes and qualifications are compatible with other curricula, so you are free to build a unique curriculum that suits your school’s values. And you will have the expertise and support of Cambridge alongside you.
  • #9 Cambridge Secondary 2 is the third stage of Cambridge programmes and qualifications. It builds on the foundations of Cambridge Secondary 1, although it is not essential to have completed the Cambridge Secondary 1 stage before beginning Cambridge Secondary 2. It is typically for learners aged 14 to 16 years. Cambridge Secondary 2 leads to Cambridge IGCSE or Cambridge O Level qualifications.
