Perspectives on the role of CO2 capture and utilisation (CCU) in climate chan...Global CCS Institute
Achieving the target set during COP21 will require the deployment of a diverse portfolio of solutions, including fuel switching, improvements in energy efficiency, increasing use of nuclear and renewable power, as well as carbon capture and storage (CCS).
It is in the context of CCS that carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), or conversion (CCC), is often mentioned. Once we have captured and purified the CO2, it is sometimes argued that we should aim to convert the CO2 to useful products such as fuels or plastics, or otherwise use the CO2 in processes such as enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR). This is broadly referred to as CCU.
In this webinar, Niall Mac Dowell, Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the Centre for Process Systems Engineering and the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College London, presented about the scale of the challenge associated with climate change mitigation and contextualise the value which CO2 conversion and utilisation options can provide.
Techno Economic Modeling for Replacement of Diesel Power PlantSyamsirAbduh2
Several problems occur in an old diesel power plant such as derating, low efficiency, high emission and noise decrease the performances of the systems. Besides, most of the old diesel power plants in Indonesia is still use High-Speed Diesel (HSD). In order to decide if the old diesel power plant is still feasible from the technical and economical point of view, a detailed analysis should be done. This paper proposes a model management tools to determine its techno-economic feasibility analysis from some factor such as cost, reliability, availability and economic life. This paper also propose the modeling calculation of Cost of Electricity (COE), Life Cycle Cost (LCC) and Equivalent Uniform Annual Cost (EUAC) methods to determine in techno-economic. A simple case study is discussed. The result recommends for asset retirement without abandonment for the old diesel power plant and replacement with the new Power Plant using a dual fuel engine (Gas Fuel and Marine Fuel Oil (MFO)). From the new power plant, it also can be estimated the replacement should be carried out in 14th year for the future. Finally, model management tools can be used to facilitate decision making in similar cases in the diesel power plant.

An energy audit is an inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows, for energy conservation in a building, process or system to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without negatively affecting the output. In commercial and industrial real estate, an energy audit is the first step in identifying opportunities to reduce energy expense and carbon footprints.
A modified particle swarm optimization algorithm to enhance MPPT in the PV ar...IJECEIAES
Due to the growing demand for electrical power, the researchers are trying to fulfill this demand by considering different ways of renewable energy resource as existing energy resources failed to do so. The solar energy from the sun is freely available, and by using photovoltaic (PV) cell power can be generated. However, it depends on rays fall on the PV cell, climatic condition. Thus, to enhance the efficiency of the photovoltaic (PV) systems, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of the solar arrays is needed. The output of solar arrays mainly depends on solar irradiance and temperature. The mismatch phenomenon takes place due to partial shade, and it causes to the power output, which brings the incorrect operation of traditional MPP tracker. In this shaded condition, PV array exhibits multiple extreme points. In general, under this scenario, the MPPT approaches fail to judge the MPP, and it leads to low efficiency. The conventional approaches of PSO based algorithms can able to track the MPP under shading condition. However, the optimization process leads to issues in tracking speed. Thus, there a need for an efficient MPPT system which can track MPPT effectively in shaded condition? Hence, the proposed manuscript presents a modified particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is introduced to enhance the tracking speed as well as performance. The outcomes of the proposed system are compared with the traditional PSO system and are found that the tracking speed of MPP, accuracy, and efficiency is improved.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
