Process Improvement: How to guide
As Is Analysis
Plan the Workshop
• Objective: document current process and identify issues/’pain points’
• Attendees: those with the level of detailed knowledge required and
who will contribute, keep to a manageable number
• Facilitator: the person who will manage the workshop and keep it on
track
• Scribe: person responsible for taking notes with sufficient
understanding of the process
Hold the Workshop
• Focus: on documenting the process and drawing out the issues. Don’t
look for resolutions and grading immediately
• Keep on track: keep it moving at a good pace
• Participation from everyone
• Follow Up
• Issue Notes asap and invite comments/corrections
• Schedule follow up if process and pain points not fully documented
• Documenting and scoring Pain
Points
Complete the table in slide 3
• Reference each pain point to the business process reference in slide 2
• Description of the issue and the proposed resolution
• Scoring:
• Use the key in slide to score each proposed resolution using the four
criteria giving them a score of between 1 - 5
• Try to get a consensus on the scoring across the group
• Each item then has a total score
• Sort the list by highest score first to prioritise
