Native American Mascots Research Paper
Sports teams across the country are all represented by a mascot. A mascot is used in a variety of ways,
but mainly to represent a team s identity and motivate both players and fans alike to bring out the
competitive spirit. Many teams are represented with normal names and themes, while some are more
controversial such as the Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Blackhawks, Cleveland Indians, Florida State
Seminoles, Atlanta Braves, and Washington Redskins (to name a few). A prickly topic for years, even
decades the usage of Native American mascots continues to strike controversy in fans, players,
alumni, as well as disinterested fans. Depending on who you talk to, it s a stain on the organizations it
affects or is it a way of honoring those who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reality is that most people, especially fans and some Native Americans themselves want to keep
these names. Again, depending on who you talk to keeping these names pay tribute and honor those
who have come before us. An example of this is the team Atlanta Braves. When you think of the
meaning brave, you see a person who is courageous and a person who will face and endure danger or
pain. Without teams using these names, people would not know the history or background of some
Native American tribes. We can say the actions of some mascots may be questionable or over the top
at times but they are not intended to poke fun at the Native Americans for their culture or beliefs, they
are only used for the spirit of the game and to get the crowd pumped up. In my own opinion, I do not
think Native American mascots should be discontinued. Discontinuing these symbols or nicknames
would bring a lot of pain to sponsors, supporters, the sports club, and its fans. Bottom line, the teams
that utilize these Native American themes or symbols do not utilize them in a stereotypical or racial
way. In fact, they mascots are used in a way to honor Native Americans and to remember them

The Film Moonlight Film Analysis
This is a criticism of Moonlight, a film directed by Barry Jenkins. It is a coming of age story, telling
the journey of a young gay black man named Chiron. Through linear character development the film
follows a young Chiron from adolescence into adulthood while growing up with alpha males in
Miamis black ghettos. The Story is told in three parts, with a different actor playing the lead role in
each section: a young Chiron named Little , as a teen named Chiron , and an adult named Black .
Despite a compelling lead performance by Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris, and its great
soundtrack, Moonlight falls flat and never gets out of the shadow of its typical cliche plot, all the
while, the film continued to never overcome the obstacle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Part Two Chiron fast forwards to Chiron, now a high school student, still continuing to be bullied by
his peers, who now more than ever suspect him to be gay. Nothing much has changed, he is still very
coiled up and scrawny framed. Chiron and Kevin have continued to stay friends through out the years,
but in the middle of the scene, there friendship takes a different turn. One night on the beach Kevin
and Chiron share and intimate moment, Chiron s first and only homosexual encounter with a man. Not
long after Kevin is pressured by the high schools bully Terrel, to attack Chiron. It makes no sense, as
to why Kevin would do such a thing after an intense, intimate moment the two had just previously
shared. This act is another reminder to Chiron that he cannot trust anyone, especially after the
complete betrayal that Kevin has shown in front of countless other students. Chiron and Kevin shared
an emotional connection that he has never experienced before. The scene ends as, Chiron walks in to
class, as per usual does not say one word, and slams Terrel in the back of the head with a chair and is
taken to Juvenile Detention. This is a defining moment as we see Chiron standing up for him self.
However, it leaves the audience wanting more. Now as part two comes to a conclusion we see that
Chiron had the opportunity to become his own and live up to his true identity. Yet, Not much has
changed, but Because he was denied this as a young boy, as a teenager he still is

My First Year Of Learning With The Open University
My first year of learning with the Open University has certainly challenged me. It has proven to be a
huge platform for my academic progress. From various essays and tutors feedback, I am learning to
develop both academic and personal skills as an independent learner. I have been assigned tasks such
as researching for essays using various types of material including books, the internet and visual
material and also reflecting on my learning experience.
As this was my first exposure to distant learning, I did not know what to expect and now that I am
nearing the end, I feel a mixture of emotions. On one hand I feel a great sense of achievement, but on
the other, the feeling that I would like to have scored a little better in each of my assignments.
Unfortunately it has been a very difficult year for my family and I, but I feel that I have progressed as
a student in being able to overcome the obstacles, pull through and at least keep up with the course. I
refused to give up when times were tough and that determination to some extent I feel reflected in my
continuation on the course. As a result of this, I feel I have I am on the way to developing skills of
time management and organisation, which proved to be essential in my circumstances and despite
having to ask for an extension for TMA 03 and considering doing so an other occasions, I completed
all essays, which in itself is an achievement for me.
Before starting the course, I was a little unsure about essay writing. It was

The Theory Of Emotional Intelligence
Howard Gardner is a Harvard graduate and developmental Psychologist who founded the theory of
multiple intelligences. There are nine different types that allow educators to identify differing
strengths and weaknesses in students. The types of intelligences include; verbal/linguistic, logical
mathematical, visual/spatial, bodily kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic, and
existential. Gardner has created a multiple intelligence charter school that uses these categories to
better teach and shape young minds. Along with Gardner; there is another psychologist, Daniel
Goleman, who expanded the theory of emotional intelligence over IQ. Emotional intelligence,
differing from multiple intelligence, is the ability to recognize one s own feelings and others emotions
and is just as important to success as multiple intelligence. Multiple intelligences will greatly affect
one s academic and professional success. Depending on which area one is strongest in, an ideal work
environment would allow for that strength to be used. For example, if an individual were strongest in
the logical mathematical intelligence, he or she would want to work as an IT technician or a financial
advisor. It s the same as if an individual had the most strength in musical intelligence, he or she would
want to be a musician or conduct an orchestra. Knowing one s multiple intelligence could be
extremely beneficial to one s academic and career success. For example, If an

How Stress Affects The Body
Stress is absolutely affects our body and blood pressure. The stress is temporarily increasing the blood
pressure by causing the heart to beat faster and the blood vessels to narrow. Stress affects the blood
pressure because the body produces a surge of hormones when the person is in a stressful situation and
the hormones increase the blood pressure. The body produces a flow of hormones when the person is
in a stressful situation. When the stress replies happen rarely, the body can improve comparatively fast
form physiological, psychological and emotional changes the stress response brings about. Under the
normal conditions, these changes rapidly subside and present no long term effect.

The renin angiotensin aldosterone system controls blood pressure and fluid balance in the body.
Activation of the renin angiotensin aldosterone system causes increased sodium retention by the
kidneys, which leads to reduced water loss into the urine and therefore blood volume expansion. If the
RAAS is abnormally active, blood pressure will be too high. RAAS activation occurs during heart
failure, which leads to fluid retention in the body. When the plasma sodium concentration is lower
than normal or the renal blood flow is compact, the juxtaglomerular cells in the kidneys convert
prorenin into renin, which is then unseen directly into the circulation. Plasma renin then cuts a short,
10 amino acid long, and peptide off a plasma protein known as angiotensinogen. The short peptide is
known as angiotensin I. Angiotensin I is then converted, by the removal of 2 amino acids, to form an
octapeptide known as angiotensin II, by the enzyme angiotensin converting enzyme found in the lung
capillaries. Angiotensin II is a potent vaso active peptide that causes arterioles to constrict, resulting in
increased arterial blood pressure. Angiotensin II also stimulates the secretion of the hormone
aldosterone from the adrenal cortex. Aldosterone causes the tubular epithelial cells of the kidneys to

History of The Mustang II Essay
More than 22,000 Mustangs were ordered on April 17, 1964 when it was first released by Ford. Show
rooms were visited by more than four million people and there were over 2,600 ads in newspapers. In
1974, the Mustang II began. Buyers loved it since it was smaller and had a weaker engine. This would
use less fuel during the fuel crisis. Sales had tripled since the year before. It also was easier to drive
because of its rack and pinion steering. In 1978 Mustang added many fashion features that would
appeal to female buyers. The rear seat was divided into two seats even though it had been a single seat
in the years before. Along with many new colors there were also pockets in the door handles,
illuminated driver vanity mirrors, and Fresno ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the best selling small engine cars was a Ford Mustang. The way a muscle car engine sounds is
also a big part of what people like about it. A classic muscle car has that rumbling sound that tells
other drivers to watch out. If the engine isn t making a steady sound there is something wrong with it.
The 2012 Dodge Charger was a big improvement since the previous year. With a new Hemi engine
that produces 45 more horsepower than the year before, this was the most powerful Charger ever
made. When the roof of each cylenders combustion chamber in an engine is hemispherical, it is a hemi
engine. On the other hand, the 2012 Chevrolet Camero did not change as much as the Dodge Charger
did, but it did improve a little. In 2011 the engine had 312 horsepower, in 2012 the Camero had 323
horsepower.
The 1960 s was a big time for muscle cars, and the Plymouth Road Runner was one of the best. It was
great on the street and even better on the race track. In 1976, Plymouth made a big mistake, they made
a new Volare Road Runner that wasn t even as close to as good as the others. Its engine only had 160
horsepower and it rusted so much that Plymouth had to recall it. Another car that didn t do so well was
the Delorean. Even though it was a big hit in Back to the Future, the actual car didn t meet standards.
The 1980 to 1981 Delorean DMC 12 might have had gull wing doors and the body panels might have
been stainless steel, but compared to five other sports cars it was the slowest

The Role Of Finances For Health Care Systems
The role of finances for health care systems Inc. will be for managing the business s finances. This
ensures having cash available for expenses to ensure the business stays afloat and to ensures there is
cash to provide a cushion for any costs that come up unexpectedly. Ensuring that the finances are
managed means the company can make plans to ensure the future of the company (Brumley, 2015)
and utilize the resources of the company to ensure its running at peak proficiency. The primary users
for the financial information will be the finance department which consists of the chief financial
officer, comptroller, treasurer and the personnel in charge of specific financial information within the
company departments. This whole department reports to the chief executive officer who is responsible
for all financial transactions for the company (Gapenski, 2013). There are many legal and regulatory
issues that this business has to follow due to being in the health care industry. Some of these issues are
that the health care industry is highly regulated for people entering the industry for the well being of
the public. The personnel working in the health care industry have to be licensed or state certified. The
facilities themselves have to be licensed and inspected by state personnel that ensure the quality of the
facility and the personnel. The legal concerns for this health care business are varied for the health
care industry but the primary concern is professional

Sparta Go To War Essay
All rise for the beginning of council
Greetings Spartan representatives, Athenian representatives, allies and Oracle.
This meeting has been called to discuss murmurs that have risen referring back to the tragedies of
430BC 402BC and the possibility of them happening once more; of course, I refer to the
Peloponnesian Wars. Today in council we will discuss the immediate causes of the wars and what we,
as a progressive and united nation, can do to prevent it from happening in the future. The overview of
this section of council will address the following: To what extent did exterior forces motivate Sparta to
go to War?
It is well known that both Sparta and Athens committed awful behaviours concerning the
Peloponnesian conflicts, and as a member ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A preliminary dispute between Corcyra and her colony of Epidamnos escalated to have Corinth siding
with Epidamnos and Athens on side of Corcyra. To add to this, a revolt of Potidaea, a colony of
Corinth but a part of the Athenian Empire, went to Sparta for military help as they received no further
aid from Athens, to which Sparta replied if Athens attacked Potidaea then they would in turn invade
Attica . Another Athenian ally had since then been excluded from the Athenian marketplace and no
ship were allowed to dock at any Athenian based harbour (Rickard, 2011). Due to a military stalemate
consisting of the fact that Sparta was not at their best when fighting on the seas and Athens could not
fully articulate strategy on land, Pericles, the acting general, convinced Athenian troops to retreat
behind the city s long walls, figuring that Sparta would eventually tire of receiving no forceful
opposition (Martin, 2000). Martin supports all of these statements, further stating that disagreements
arose in the 430 s over how each of the city states treat their allies, inevitably leading to a peace treaty
collapse, alongside hoe the petty actions of lesser powers pushed the larger nations, namely Sparta and
Athens, to initiate violence. Both authors mentioned beforehand provide a modern perspective on
these conflicts and hence are not as emotionally or physically involved, providing a lesser biased view.

Fetus Removal Literature Review
Literature review
Bailey, citing Professor Ray Dolan of University College, London, writes in a meeting that feelings
impact our choices constantly . It is additionally concurred that the mental component of premature
birth can t be disregarded on the grounds that fetus removal is, without question, a critical life
occasion causing high mental worry at the time. Argent proposes that fetus removal may include
sentiments of blame, disgrace and lament. However others dissent, recommending that the experience

The writing encompassing this subject contains numerous predispositions. Some emerge from the
ideological perspectives or suspicions of the creators and some emerge as a result of poor strategy.
Some writing is one sided toward the desire for extreme negative responses of women who have
encountered fetus removal and a few writers are exceptionally incredulous of this. These creators
feature the improper speculation of conclusions from these examinations and propose they are of
constrained logical legitimacy and educate small concerning the experience of by far most of abortion
patients . There is considerably less recorded data with respect to the potential constructive outcomes
that fetus removal may convey to the women or the impacts on women when abortion is denied, a
special case being the paper by Dagg (1991). The writing has a tendency to recommend that ladies
who don t encounter trouble following premature birth may encounter more positive feelings, for
example, alleviation, fulfillment and a feeling of coming back to ordinariness. Post abortion feelings

Personal Statement In Structural Engineering
A simple bridge truss was the first structure I ever analyzed. The simple combination of beams that
could hold cars, trains, and trucks over long spans of water fascinated me. Having the tools to analyze
the loads on the truss further increased my interest in structures. I encountered the bridge in a textbook
for my first engineering class.
Knowing that the professor, Mr. Paul Davids, was a tough teacher, I asked him for the textbook so I
could study and get ready for the class over the summer. Just arrived from Belize, I was determined to
succeed. In class we learned about forces on simple members and then we put the members together to
form a simple truss. At this point I had almost decided that structural engineering was the career for ...

John Updike s Short Story A P
John Updike s mother, Linda Grace Hoyer, was an inspiring and passionate writer. Her influence on
Updike was perpetual. He grew up to be successful in high school as well as Harvard, where he
graduated with a degree in English. The short story A P, written by Updike, is wonderfully written and
full of implications and scenarios that lead his audience to draw conclusions and opinions based on
their knowledge. At the time of Updike s work, women were just beginning to take a stand for their
rights and challenge long established gender roles. With Updike s mother being well respected and

equality. In his short story A P , he recognizes and expresses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His comments towards the females are completely unnecessary. The detailed description of the girls
and their overexposed bodies would make any person, not just a female, uncomfortable. Sammie
could have simply noted how appealing the girls were and acknowledge their choice of apparel instead
of stating, in detail, the way Queenie s bathing suit had slipped a little on her (Updike 19). Sammie s
character is portrayed as lustful. If the girls were not in bathing suits would the same attention be
given? The perception that clothing makes all the difference, not only in a literary setting but also in
daily life, is controversial. A recent movement was sparked when a police officer voiced a sexist
comment that women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized (McAfee 1). The
SlutWalk was then created as women all over the world protested and marched, carrying signs that
read my clothes are not my consent. This real world issue is evident in A P as the mindset of a man
when faced with the three women and their lack of clothing is revealed. Updike noticed and brought
attention to the social barrier he saw in his society, that is still evident today, that needs to be torn

All that Heaven Allows Movie Analysis
In a film, ideology plays an important role in connecting the film to the society and allowing the
audience to have better understanding of the film. According to the German philosophers Marx and
Engels, (1978) ideology is identify as the relative systematic body of ideas, perception, and the actual
subconscious though of a given class, or group of individual in a certain time and place. In their
statement, there were four criteria to this definition, Marx and Engels always considered the state,
politics, education, religion, the law and other activities not directly a part of material production to be
ideological forms or manifestations of ideology . The second criteria is the highest authority class will
often have strong influence in any society, also ideology represent an incomplete, inaccurate, distorted
understanding of social reality , there are 2 main reason where ideology indicate the interest and point
of view of a class. However, normally that class will represent as always true and valid and ideology
depends for its clarity on the corresponding clarity of the social relations extant in the society . Lastly
the fourth criteria is each specific expression of ideology is mediated, which can be explained as
between the overall ideology and its expression, there were experiences, creativity, individual thought
and many more. During first cold war, from late 1940 to mid 1960, most of the Hollywood cinema

way they are serving their students by proving comfortable spaces where students from diverse
backgrounds can relate. Mrs. Salter mentioned how she wished her campus had a safe space like a
student union where students can spend more time on campus. Staff and faculty members do not see
this change necessary for their campus, which is problematic. Similarly, Dr. Mathews stated that he
wished the university had a safe space for students that identify as Pacific Islander, but have different
cultural backgrounds since some of these students do not come from the Philippines. It is unfortunate
that the students at the University of Hawai i, of Hilo may not be experiencing inclusion since they are
all clustered into one ethnic background. Both campuses need to work on providing a safe space for
their students in order to have a more inclusive campus

Iago Psychopath Essay
In the tragedy, Othello, written by William Shakespeare in 1603, the readers are never given a direct
answer on why Iago acts the way he does, and why manipulates and tortures everyone in his life. Thus
not being given a direct answer on why he does this without any remorse, readers are to draw
conclusions on their own, to tie the loose ends on his ways. Iago shows many characteristics of being
mentally ill, with a psychopathic disorder. Shakespeare has left the readers to figure this out, and to
use the text to presume if he is a wether he is a psychopath or not.
The definition of psychopath is: A mental disorder in which an individual manifests amoral and
antisocial behavior, lack of ability to love or establish meaningful personal relationships, extreme
egocentricity, failure to learn from experience, etc.. (dictionary.com) Only one character fits the
characteristics in the play, Othello, and that is Iago. Iago is manipulative, conniving, too faced, and a

Abstract
Childhood maltreatment is a prevalent problem through out the world. As a child grows and matures
the brain continues to develop according its experiences. During this time sensitive periods of
development for different areas of the brain. A few areas that are of interest are the stress influenced
areas, which are at an increased risk for developmental problems when exposed to maltreatment. The
extra stress from such exposures can influence abnormalities throughout the brain, which have been
linked to structure changes with in the corpus callosum, anterior cingulate, dorsolateral prefrontal,
orbitofrontal cortex, and hippocampus, amygdala, and cerebellum, as well as changes to stress related
hormone systems. These structural changes are associated with an increased risk of psychopathology
and other life long educational and physiological risk.
In 2013 an estimated 679,000 children were victims of maltreatment and approximately 3.1 million
children received help from Childhood Protective Services in the United States alone. Abuse or
neglect can be categorized as maltreatment, which takes many different forms from physical, sexual,
or emotional abuse, and parental neglect. It is accepted that childhood maltreatment has lasting effects
as the victims grow into adults. One example of these effects is behavioral

The Role Of Abolishing The One Child Policy In China
Historically, societies in which men substantially outnumber women...Often they are unstable.
Sometimes they are violent (Last). In China, over the past thirty years, gendercide, resulting from the

The gendercide in China was caused, first by the institution of the one child policy, and second the

An alternative solution to the two child policy is, A financial incentive for parents to keep girls...Son
to have a worth of about 1.85 years of income, while the first born girl held a value of only about 0.43
years of income (Gendercide | All Girls Allowed). A financial incentive for parents to keep girls would
help close the large income gap between first born boys and first born girls. This alternative solution
would allow for parents to keep girls and have the income that is often secured by first born boy. This
solution would also benefit families that have two children that are both boys and girls, she hoped she
would become a doctor, but her family only had enough money to send her brother to school; as a
man, he had a more likely chance of making money to support their family (Hayoun 2). Many families
may not have money to send both their children to school or college, so, sons are sent to school
because they are seen to have more opportunities and a higher income. The alternative solution will
help end gendercide and allow for girls to get a higher education. Overall, a financial incentive is a
more positive alternative solution rather than a child limiting policy due to the embracing of girls to

Application And Investigation Of Control Framework...
This thesis deals with the configuration and investigation of control framework structures for electric
drives furnished with changeless magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) in car application. With the
expanding prominence of multi level inverters, the opportunity to get better of the execution of
voltage source inverters has persistently been tried for different applications. The fast improvement of
high exchanging recurrence power gadgets in the previous decade leads towards more extensive use of
voltage source inverters in AC power era. In this way, this prompts the requirement for a regulation
method with less aggregate symphonious bending, less exchanging misfortunes, and more extensive
direct balance range. The present theory highlights the examination of the customary two level
inverter and the three level diode cinched inverters for the application in car industry. The proposition
highlights the DC connection adjusting control which is the most ordinarily confronted issue in the
event of a three level diode braced inverter, with no extra circuit. Changes of the regulation strategies
for the acknowledgment of the DC connection adjusting control have been proposed. Correlation of
the aggregate symphonious bending of the line to line voltages at the yields of the two and three level
inverters has been exhibited for PWM, SVPWM CB SVPWM methods. The postulation likewise
manages the control of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor drive utilizing Field Oriented

Summary Of No Logo By Naomi Klein
Naomi Klein in her book No Logo outlines her thoughts as to how marketing and advertising by a
company has made a dramatic shift from showcasing a product, to the branding of the company name.
Companies have now shifted their focus to creating an association between the company and an idea.
The company then uses this idea to sell their products. In her book she also addresses the growing
massive globalization of corporations into global Goliaths. She makes the claim that such large
corporations may even be considered form of multinational government. Klein states that these huge
corporations are squeezing out the competition and creating less competition to compete with within
the markets, and less of a fight to attract consumers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book Klein fears that the brands have allowed the companies to become too powerful and there
is no counterbalance to their power. These super corporations are allowed to act at will and often are
stepping all other smaller corporations as well as within the countries these corporations operate in.
Her arguments are very much in line with the anti globalization movement that is gaining popularity
in the world. The brands of companies have become so powerful and insidious that they are almost
impossible to escape. Our culture has surrendered to the idea of the brand. Brands now dominate our
society and even have crept into our education systems. Klein says in her book, ...this corporate
obsession with brand identity is waging a war on public and individual space: on public institutions
such as schools, on youthful identities, on the concept of nationality and on the possibilities for
unmarketed space. (5) Coke and Pepsi have bidding wars over the rights to have their vending
machines in schools. College and university sports arenas are plastered with advertisements, or even
named after a corporation, like the Taco Bell Pavilion in Boise. There are certain corporations which
market themselves so aggressively, which are so intent on stamping their image on everybody and
every street, that they build up a reservoir of

Social Organized Crime Perspective Paper
Social Organized Crime Perspective Paper Many could argue that organized crime takes place in our
society because of the circumstances in which our society has chosen to exist. It could have been
started because of rules, regulations, and laws that we have placed upon ourselves that not every
person agrees with. It could be a problem because several of the people within our society choose to
live differently because they feel they can. Whatever the logic behind the choice organized crime does
exist in our society and has for quite some time. In this paper will take a look at the perspective of
social organized crime. We will discuss and explain the term social institution and how it applies to
organized crime. We will discuss empirical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory attempts to give insight as to how a person can choose to live a life of crime and or choose
to become affiliated with an organized crime group and live a life of crime as a profession and a
career. In conclusion we are a society that has formed and developed into a social institution. We have
rules that are both written and unwritten. Those rules may not be for everyone and those who refuse to
agree to live by them often choose to live a life of crime. Once they learn a life of crime they may
choose to make a career out of their efforts and become more intelligent as criminals. When this
happens they learn to behave more and more like criminals until their life becomes that surrounded by
and involved with organized crime. We as a society refute this and by refuting it we encourage it.

Analysis Of The Article The Model Minority Losing...
It is the 21st century and there is still racial prejudice in America. Many may not realize this, but there
is a growing problem between Asian Americans and the American society. A growing issue is that
minorities, especially Asian Americans are being judged based on their race rather than the accolades
and achievements they have accomplished. In the article The model minority is losing patience, the
article discusses about a high school senior by the name of Michael Wang, who was denied six out of
seven Ivy League colleges, even after coming in second place in his class of 1,002 students for
academics, scoring a 36 (perfect) score on the ACT, scoring in the top 150 of a national math
competition, and much more. Many would assume based on all of these accolades and achievements,
any student would be accepted to many elite colleges, including Ivy League schools. The article goes
on to say that racial prejudice is a major problem even within the high school level. Racial prejudice is
a major problem as discussed within the article, and the authors do an effective job in presenting that
there is a major racial prejudice issue among high school students and college administration s. This
article starts out with a simple story of a high school senior by the name of Michael Wang. Mr. Wang s
story is a story of unfairness. A story of inequality. A story of a one man s success, becoming
meaningless with the denial of college administrations. The article shows that Mr. Wang was

Comparison of the Story of an Hour and a Sorrowful Woman...
The Portrayal of the Plight of Women by the Author, In Their Particular Period of Time Kate Chopin s
The Story of an Hour and Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman are similar pieces of literary work. Both
stories offer a revealing glimpse of extremely unhappy marriages due to being forced into
stereotypical roles. Both stories portray women, who are trapped in their marriages and trapped in
their socially expected matriarchal characters. They are identified by their role as a wife and mother.
In A Sorrowful Woman the wife is depressed with her life, so much so, The sight of them made her so
sad and sick she did not want to see them ever again (p.1). This wife and mother has come to detest

In The Story of an Hour Chopin portrays marriage and the role and feelings of women in the 19th
century as subordinate contributors to the husbands. The third word of the story is Mrs. , identifying
the protagonist as a wife, defining her role and her life. She is also identified as weak and fragile.
When her husband is killed in a train accident Mrs. Mallard cries, but for different reasons than would
be expected. She is sad for her husband s death, but, moreover, she is overcome with joy. For now she
is free. No one recognizes her true emotions because women fall apart when their spouse dies; it s
required. Marriage is portrayed as a life sentence. She said it over and over again under her breath:
free, free, free! Her pulse beat fast, and the coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch of her body
(1). Mrs. Mallard was relieved that her husband died for she thought her sentence was over. When she
realized that he was still alive, and therefore she was still committed to the marriage, she died from the
shock and horror of being trapped.
In both stories, women were expected to keep house, cook, bear and rear children but little more.
Moreover, should a woman find work, employers generally discriminated against women by hiring
them for menial jobs. Repression in both women may very well have been the reason for their
ailments and certainly their deaths Though a weak heart and suicide might be a stretch, as to be caused

Liquidity Risk, Distinctions Between Asset Liquidity And...
Excusive summary
This report is designed to investigate liquidity risk, distinctions between asset liquidity and liability
liquidity management, as well as the main features of an effective liquidity management. In order to
gain insight of liquidity, there is a graph based on the liquidity ratio to analyze the liquidity risk of
four major banks in Australia and the advantages and disadvantages of the liquidity ratio.
Furthermore, it outlines how Basel III effects the banking liquidity management.
Introduction
In recent years, liquidity risk has become the public problem to the commercial banks. Bank for
International Settlement (2008) indicates that the most of bank failures happened with the reason that
the liquidity can not satisfy the demand, therefore, the liquidity risk is the most basic aspect of risk
management. Moreover, the production and implementation of Basel III is able to address the liquidity
risk effectively by applying two ratios which are LCR and NSFR.
1.0 Liquidity risk and liquidity management
1.1 define liquidity risk
Liquidity risk refers to the bank s ability to meet maturing obligations as deposits come due and quick
processing the assets into cash with minimum loss or being able to get enough funds when necessary
and processing profitable securities trading by using available funds (Gup, 2007, p19). The reasons for
liquidity risk occurs can be concluded in two aspects, which are asset side and liability side. On the
asset side, the loan commitments

The Importance Of The Women Of New France
The Importance of the Women of New France
Throughout history males have been perceived as the dominant sex. This notion had been strong in
Europe and most of the Western World. The colony of New France, however, was able to break this
way of thinking and began to regard their women as an equal. Women s roles in New France could be
described as small but very important as day to day life would not be as efficient without the help of
the women of New France. Both European women and Aboriginal women had jobs that were essential
to everyday life, women helped contribute to the fur trade, Catholic nuns had major roles in education

of the domestic economy. The descent went through the female and only women could give names to
the men when they were promoted to chief. Women had all the say in who was selected for chief and
made the call to go to war. It is incredible that for the centuries that Western men did not respect the
opinions of women, yet Aboriginal men of the New World were able to respect their women so much
that they called most of the shots of how their tribes should be run.
Women in New France were very important. Both European and Aboriginal women were respected
and had a significant amount of say in what went on in the colony and tribes. Aboriginal women were

A Day At The Meadowlands Flea Market
Growing up in such a majorly diversified city, and having attended public schools all of my life, I
barely encountered racism of any sort. It was something that was not discussed often in my home or
anywhere else, outside of my knowledge of slavery s history in America or what I ve seen in movies.
Having friends and family from so many different countries, backgrounds, and ethnicities, it was
tough relating to any direct form of discrimination that I know others around me have encountered.
Then, there was that day ...at the Meadowlands Flea Market. Here... In New Jersey, the learned hatred
for people of color stared me right in face, as if it was my time to finally confront something I have
never been exposed to. This was one of many life changing events that has happened to me, though it
happened at least 10 years ago, the memory is as fresh as yesterday s occurrences. This very moment
opened my eyes to a new respect for any other minority or anyone who has endured racism and
discrimination.
Springtime in New Jersey meant finally taking the coats off and enjoying some outdoor fun, festivals,
carnivals, flea markets and such. One Saturday morning my mom and grandmother decided we all

Charles Darwin s Natural Selection Theory
Darwin did not publish his theory of evolution by natural selection until 1859. He was not the first,
however, to develop a theory of evolution. As scientists developed an increasing interest in the natural
world, it became evident to many influential thinkers of the late eighteenth century, such as the Comte
de Buffon and Jean Baptiste Lamarck that species changed gradually over time. While these prior
scientists had ideas on evolution, their theories were often misguided and failed to threaten the status
quo of society to any significant degree. Darwin s theory of evolution by natural selection, however,
created a greater controversy. Not only did Darwin provide a functioning method of change backed up
by copious amounts of scientific support, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What set Darwin apart from his predecessors, however, was his theory of natural selection. Natural
selection is differential survival and reproduction. Those individuals that are best suited for their
environment will have the best chance of being preserved in the struggle for life and will survive to
produce offspring similarly characterised. Not only was his theory inspired by observations made
while he was on the HMS Beagle, Darwin was heavily influenced by Thomas Malthus and his An
Essay on the Principle of Population. Malthus states that population, when unchecked, increased in a
geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio. Since resources are limited, a
struggle for existence would inevitably ensue as individuals competed over available resources. There
must be a strong and constantly operating check on population from the difficulty of subsistence. In a
struggle for survival, those individuals most fit for their environment would outcompete those less fit.
Malthus essay became essential for Darwin s understanding of natural selection. Furthermore,
variation in individuals, Darwin determined, was largely due to random chance. Darwin did not
believe, like Lamarck, that evolutionary change had an end goal in mind. Evolution did not always
select for the most complex organism. This idea threatened the Christian world. If variation was
random and there was no force directing evolution towards a specific goal, there was no room for
God. Natural selection was seen as a threat to religion. There was limited room for divine intervention
in Darwin s theory. Darwin himself, starting out as a firm believer in the supernatural, grew to be an
atheist by his death. However, despite protests by theologians, there was a significant amount of
empirical evidence backing up natural selection. For more than 10 years, Darwin

soldiers.
The new anti bleeding material originates from shrimp shells and is later developed into a spraying

chronic open wounds, RT reported on Wednesday.
The sprayable polymer based foam can be significantly vital for treating major injuries in street

In some cases, hemorrhage can be stopped by applying compression of a tourniquet or bandage at the
injury site. However, the majority of hemorrhages that prove fatal are non compressible , such as those
due to an internal injury in the truncal region.
They followed by stating.
Currently, there is no effective way to treat such injuries. In this initial study, we demonstrate that a
sprayable polymer based foam can be effective at treating bleeding from soft tissue without the need
for compression.
The active material chitosan (a biopolymer derived from the shells of shrimp and other crustaceans) is
said by researchers to be used to physically connect blood cells into clusters via hydrophobic
interactions , Business Insider reported.
With an exciting new method to stop bleeding in the works, researchers went ahead and initiated
several tests using the foam. Researchers found success after restricting blood from an injury to the
liver of pigs. According to reports, within a few minutes of using the foam, bleeding from the pig s
injuries stopped.
Of course, without the use of compression and only the foam, about 90% blood loss was

Artists And The Art Trade
While artists and the art trade were in the business of presenting the new, this was a conceptual
challenge for museums. (Altshuler, 2008, 15). Discuss the challenges that advanced artistic practice
presented for museums in the late 19th and early 20th century.
The period of the second half of the 19th and the beginnings of the 20th century saw some of the most
extensive transformations in the art market and the institution of the art museum in history. With the
rise of the avant garde and new artistic practices, the traditional enlightenment didactic vision of the
museum was put under threat. This essay will focus on the tension between the museum s historicity
and the general tendency to move towards modernity and the discussions ... Show more content on

However, the works acquired were still exclusively under the strict rule of the Academy, operated by
the state. The rise of progressive artists advocating advanced art, pioneered by the likes of Courbet,
Manet and others caused a re evaluation in the system of these principles. The coming of the avant
garde together with the increased commercialisation of art set in motion an increased tension with the
established institutions. Eventually this culminated in the formation of autonomous exhibition spaces
where artists displayed their works separately from the Academy. This tradition began with the Salon
des Refusés in 1863 and extended to establish a parallel to that which would have been traditionally
the role of the state museums as the academy continued to turn away from progressive art practices.
Although some of the contemporary works were acquired by the state, it was not until 1896 that the
Luxembourg agreed to exhibits works of the impressionists, and it would be even later when state run
institutions would acknowledge the full extent of the modern art tradition.
In the span of the last decades of the 19th century, art in Europe began to focus itself on new
developments in artistic practice. Exhibitions such as the

Trends in the Industry of IT and the Business Cycles Essay
The name information technology was used for the first time in 1958, in an article in Harvard
Business Review and since that time this industry has seen only innovations throughout the history.
Some problems that the industry is facing are the increase competition from the offshore and inshore
players, the slow growth of the hardware sales, the decrease in the IT spending globally etc. But
despite all the problems and challenges that the industry is facing, the opportunities are many. One of
the most important ones is the increased number of the smart device users which is established as a
very profitable segment for the information technology segment.

Information technology industry is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The slowdown in the IT spending globally
According to information technology industry estimates, global IT spending growth has been 2%
which is smaller than the previous forecast of 4.1% for 2013. The decrease in the IT spending by
enterprises as the cut on capital expenditure is due to economic uncertainties prevailing globally
which could negatively impact the IBM s revenue growth.
Competition from offshore players
The competition from offshore players has been increasing in recently. Offshore IT outsourcers are
selling directly to the end users and in this way they compete directly with the local suppliers of these
services such as IBM. This phenomenon creates a highly competitive industry which makes
companies to continually search for ways to differentiate themselves from their competitors.
SlowGrowth in the hardware segment
One of the main problems is the slow growth in the hardware segment. IBM sales growth has been flat
in the last quarters because the company has been unable to successfully close new multimillion
dollars hardware and software deals in the last year because of the bad economic conditions. The
hardware sales have been declining because different firms prefer moving to cloud services which run
largely on low cost hardware often custom build for cloud architectures. IBMs revenues from servers
and hardware have been decreasing a lot. Even though IBM moved to a new high value area such as

Popularity Of Chain Supermarkets Are Monopolizing The Market
1. How would you describe your knowledge of proliferation of chain supermarkets?
The rate of proliferation of chain supermarkets is very fast and the number of branches increased
rapidly.
2. Do you think chain supermarkets are monopolizing the market? If so, in what ways?
Chain supermarkets are absolutely monopolizing the market. Chain supermarkets own nearly all of the
market and many small sized grocery stores have to wind up their business as the turnover is
insufficient for the expenditure. Other small sized enterprises like fruit stores also suffer hard in the
sluggish competition with chain supermarkets and the income is reduced. A barrier is formed for
others to enter the retail industry and the space for small sized enterprises to survive in the market is
very small.
3 What do you think are the differences of a grocery stall and a chain supermarket? ... Show more

The development capacity of the chain supermarkets is obviously higher. The turnover rate of a small
sized enterprises, like my grocery shop is far lower than that of chain supermarkets. In terms of the
business mode, chain supermarkets can provide more discounts for the consumers but due to the
limited capital, grocery shops cannot follow suit. Thus, most consumers would tends to shop in a
chain supermarkets instead of grocery shops, especially during the discount period. Although both the
staff of the grocery stores and the staff of the chain supermarkets would chat with the customers, I
think the hospitality and human touch in small sized enterprises is still higher. Established customers
like to purchase in my grocery stall and chat with me. They have been supporting my business for a

Why Students Should Be A University Essay
Transferring to a four year college or university can be challenging depending on some factors, but it
is not an impossible task. Two year colleges like NOVA are working closely with four year
universities to ensure this transition is smooth and easy. Four year institutions and universities have
also recognized what a transfer student can bring to their schools. Most students attend community
college with a plan of transferring to a four year university. Community Colleges have great
opportunities for their students, with high resources, affordable expenses and small classrooms
students have many reasons for choosing community colleges as a freshman. Nonetheless, an
Associate Degree is designed to be a transition rather than an end goal. According to a study done by
Community College Research Center (CCRC), While 81 percent of entering community college
students indicate they want to earn a bachelor s degree or higher, only 33 percent of entering students
actually transfer to a four year institution within six years (CCRC,2016). There are many factors why
students should consider transferring to a university to at least earn a bachelor s Degree. The main
point being, four year university helps students continue a path of academic and career success. As a
student moves out of the two years community college experience, the academic opportunities become
broader.
Moreover, academic facilities at four year universities offer great resources. University advisors and
counselors

The Success Of Accuracy And Efficiency Of Neuromorphic...
The success of accuracy and efficiency of neuromorphic architectures led to the the advent of more
applications that demanded even more work in this field.Advancement at architecture level and state
of the art in silicon neural processing began in the early 1980 s when Carver Mead, widely regarded as
the father of neuromorphic computing, wrote the book Analog VLSI and Neural Systems. . The
following sections of the paper provide a comprehensive survey of the prior art discussing the current
trends in neuromorphic chips.
A. Device Technology and Neuron Architecture
Developments in electronic devices is trending towards lesser area and more functionality. This trend
has been driven by Moore s Law (*?) [1965_Moore] which states that transistor density will double
every 18 months and as it is evident from roadmap of semiconductor technology that this law has
reached its bottleneck[3].So when scaling in terms of dimensions and voltage was no longer and
effective alternative we enter into the More than Moore regime that involves exploring other
alternative strategies for improving efficiency and transistor density and neuromorphic architectures is
one of them. Digital neurons are able to have high throughput, consume less power, and increase the
density, which make a compelling argument for their future.Analog neuron don t affect scaling yet
they still have a seat at the table when it comes to neuromorphic architectures. Authors demonstrated a

Negative Effects Of Red Meat
Meat is an important staple in human diets and nutrition, but not every type of meat is healthy. Red
meat is defined as meat that is red when it is raw, for example beef or lamb. It is consumed in mass
amounts all over the world, although there are risks involved in consuming so much red meat.
Previous research has connected red meat to increased risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and
certain cancers. It also causes an increased risk of mortality. The components put into meat, whether
processed or unprocessed, adds to these risks and is unhealthy to put in the body. However, there are
some benefits to eating red meat such as getting vitamins and minerals like B 12 and iron as well as
using it as a source of protein. Too much red meat consumption negatively affects people s health by
causing health problems, creating increased risk for diseases and certain cancers through the
processing of the meat as well as how the body reacts to it.
There are many risks when people eat high levels of red meat. A study suggests that consumption of
red meat and heart disease are tied together because of gut microbes breaking down carnitine, which
helps metabolism and is found in red meat. These microbes help break down food, in the process
forming small compounds. One of these compounds is trimethylamine, which when metabolized
forms trimethylamine N oxide (TMAO). It is associated with atherosclerosis, which is the build up of
fats, cholesterol, and other materials in and on the

  • 2. Native American Mascots Research Paper Sports teams across the country are all represented by a mascot. A mascot is used in a variety of ways, but mainly to represent a team s identity and motivate both players and fans alike to bring out the competitive spirit. Many teams are represented with normal names and themes, while some are more controversial such as the Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Blackhawks, Cleveland Indians, Florida State Seminoles, Atlanta Braves, and Washington Redskins (to name a few). A prickly topic for years, even decades the usage of Native American mascots continues to strike controversy in fans, players, alumni, as well as disinterested fans. Depending on who you talk to, it s a stain on the organizations it affects or is it a way of honoring those who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reality is that most people, especially fans and some Native Americans themselves want to keep these names. Again, depending on who you talk to keeping these names pay tribute and honor those who have come before us. An example of this is the team Atlanta Braves. When you think of the meaning brave, you see a person who is courageous and a person who will face and endure danger or pain. Without teams using these names, people would not know the history or background of some Native American tribes. We can say the actions of some mascots may be questionable or over the top at times but they are not intended to poke fun at the Native Americans for their culture or beliefs, they are only used for the spirit of the game and to get the crowd pumped up. In my own opinion, I do not think Native American mascots should be discontinued. Discontinuing these symbols or nicknames would bring a lot of pain to sponsors, supporters, the sports club, and its fans. Bottom line, the teams that utilize these Native American themes or symbols do not utilize them in a stereotypical or racial way. In fact, they mascots are used in a way to honor Native Americans and to remember them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Film Moonlight Film Analysis This is a criticism of Moonlight, a film directed by Barry Jenkins. It is a coming of age story, telling the journey of a young gay black man named Chiron. Through linear character development the film follows a young Chiron from adolescence into adulthood while growing up with alpha males in Miamis black ghettos. The Story is told in three parts, with a different actor playing the lead role in each section: a young Chiron named Little , as a teen named Chiron , and an adult named Black . Despite a compelling lead performance by Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris, and its great soundtrack, Moonlight falls flat and never gets out of the shadow of its typical cliche plot, all the while, the film continued to never overcome the obstacle of ... Nothing much has changed, he is still very coiled up and scrawny framed. Chiron and Kevin have continued to stay friends through out the years, but in the middle of the scene, there friendship takes a different turn. One night on the beach Kevin and Chiron share and intimate moment, Chiron s first and only homosexual encounter with a man. Not long after Kevin is pressured by the high schools bully Terrel, to attack Chiron. It makes no sense, as to why Kevin would do such a thing after an intense, intimate moment the two had just previously shared. This act is another reminder to Chiron that he cannot trust anyone, especially after the complete betrayal that Kevin has shown in front of countless other students. Chiron and Kevin shared an emotional connection that he has never experienced before. The scene ends as, Chiron walks in to class, as per usual does not say one word, and slams Terrel in the back of the head with a chair and is taken to Juvenile Detention. This is a defining moment as we see Chiron standing up for him self. However, it leaves the audience wanting more. Now as part two comes to a conclusion we see that Chiron had the opportunity to become his own and live up to his true identity. From various essays and tutors feedback, I am learning to develop both academic and personal skills as an independent learner. I have been assigned tasks such as researching for essays using various types of material including books, the internet and visual material and also reflecting on my learning experience. As this was my first exposure to distant learning, I did not know what to expect and now that I am nearing the end, I feel a mixture of emotions. On one hand I feel a great sense of achievement, but on the other, the feeling that I would like to have scored a little better in each of my assignments. Unfortunately it has been a very difficult year for my family and I, but I feel that I have progressed as a student in being able to overcome the obstacles, pull through and at least keep up with the course. I refused to give up when times were tough and that determination to some extent I feel reflected in my continuation on the course. As a result of this, I feel I have I am on the way to developing skills of time management and organisation, which proved to be essential in my circumstances and despite having to ask for an extension for TMA 03 and considering doing so an other occasions, I completed all essays, which in itself is an achievement for me. • 6. The Theory Of Emotional Intelligence Howard Gardner is a Harvard graduate and developmental Psychologist who founded the theory of multiple intelligences. There are nine different types that allow educators to identify differing strengths and weaknesses in students. The types of intelligences include; verbal/linguistic, logical mathematical, visual/spatial, bodily kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic, and existential. Gardner has created a multiple intelligence charter school that uses these categories to better teach and shape young minds. Along with Gardner; there is another psychologist, Daniel Goleman, who expanded the theory of emotional intelligence over IQ. Emotional intelligence, differing from multiple intelligence, is the ability to recognize one s own feelings and others emotions and is just as important to success as multiple intelligence. Multiple intelligences will greatly affect one s academic and professional success. Depending on which area one is strongest in, an ideal work environment would allow for that strength to be used. For example, if an individual were strongest in the logical mathematical intelligence, he or she would want to work as an IT technician or a financial advisor. It s the same as if an individual had the most strength in musical intelligence, he or she would want to be a musician or conduct an orchestra. Knowing one s multiple intelligence could be extremely beneficial to one s academic and career success. For example, If an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The body produces a flow of hormones when the person is in a stressful situation. The renin angiotensin aldosterone system controls blood pressure and fluid balance in the body. Activation of the renin angiotensin aldosterone system causes increased sodium retention by the kidneys, which leads to reduced water loss into the urine and therefore blood volume expansion. If the RAAS is abnormally active, blood pressure will be too high. RAAS activation occurs during heart failure, which leads to fluid retention in the body. When the plasma sodium concentration is lower than normal or the renal blood flow is compact, the juxtaglomerular cells in the kidneys convert prorenin into renin, which is then unseen directly into the circulation. Plasma renin then cuts a short, 10 amino acid long, and peptide off a plasma protein known as angiotensinogen. The short peptide is known as angiotensin I. Angiotensin I is then converted, by the removal of 2 amino acids, to form an octapeptide known as angiotensin II, by the enzyme angiotensin converting enzyme found in the lung capillaries. Angiotensin II is a potent vaso active peptide that causes arterioles to constrict, resulting in increased arterial blood pressure. Angiotensin II also stimulates the secretion of the hormone aldosterone from the adrenal cortex. Aldosterone causes the tubular epithelial cells of the kidneys to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show rooms were visited by more than four million people and there were over 2,600 ads in newspapers. In 1974, the Mustang II began. Buyers loved it since it was smaller and had a weaker engine. This would use less fuel during the fuel crisis. Sales had tripled since the year before. It also was easier to drive because of its rack and pinion steering. One of the best selling small engine cars was a Ford Mustang. The way a muscle car engine sounds is also a big part of what people like about it. A classic muscle car has that rumbling sound that tells other drivers to watch out. If the engine isn t making a steady sound there is something wrong with it. The 2012 Dodge Charger was a big improvement since the previous year. With a new Hemi engine that produces 45 more horsepower than the year before, this was the most powerful Charger ever made. When the roof of each cylenders combustion chamber in an engine is hemispherical, it is a hemi engine. On the other hand, the 2012 Chevrolet Camero did not change as much as the Dodge Charger did, but it did improve a little. In 2011 the engine had 312 horsepower, in 2012 the Camero had 323 horsepower. The 1960 s was a big time for muscle cars, and the Plymouth Road Runner was one of the best. It was great on the street and even better on the race track. In 1976, Plymouth made a big mistake, they made a new Volare Road Runner that wasn t even as close to as good as the others. Its engine only had 160 horsepower and it rusted so much that Plymouth had to recall it. Another car that didn t do so well was the Delorean. Even though it was a big hit in Back to the Future, the actual car didn t meet standards. A preliminary dispute between Corcyra and her colony of Epidamnos escalated to have Corinth siding with Epidamnos and Athens on side of Corcyra. To add to this, a revolt of Potidaea, a colony of Corinth but a part of the Athenian Empire, went to Sparta for military help as they received no further aid from Athens, to which Sparta replied if Athens attacked Potidaea then they would in turn invade Attica . Another Athenian ally had since then been excluded from the Athenian marketplace and no ship were allowed to dock at any Athenian based harbour (Rickard, 2011). Due to a military stalemate consisting of the fact that Sparta was not at their best when fighting on the seas and Athens could not fully articulate strategy on land, Pericles, the acting general, convinced Athenian troops to retreat behind the city s long walls, figuring that Sparta would eventually tire of receiving no forceful opposition (Martin, 2000). Martin supports all of these statements, further stating that disagreements arose in the 430 s over how each of the city states treat their allies, inevitably leading to a peace treaty collapse, alongside hoe the petty actions of lesser powers pushed the larger nations, namely Sparta and Athens, to initiate violence. He grew up to be successful in high school as well as Harvard, where he graduated with a degree in English. The short story A P, written by Updike, is wonderfully written and full of implications and scenarios that lead his audience to draw conclusions and opinions based on their knowledge. At the time of Updike s work, women were just beginning to take a stand for their rights and challenge long established gender roles. Sammie s character is portrayed as lustful. If the girls were not in bathing suits would the same attention be given? The perception that clothing makes all the difference, not only in a literary setting but also in daily life, is controversial. A recent movement was sparked when a police officer voiced a sexist comment that women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized (McAfee 1). According to the German philosophers Marx and Engels, (1978) ideology is identify as the relative systematic body of ideas, perception, and the actual subconscious though of a given class, or group of individual in a certain time and place. In their statement, there were four criteria to this definition, Marx and Engels always considered the state, politics, education, religion, the law and other activities not directly a part of material production to be ideological forms or manifestations of ideology . The second criteria is the highest authority class will often have strong influence in any society, also ideology represent an incomplete, inaccurate, distorted understanding of social reality , there are 2 main reason where ideology indicate the interest and point of view of a class. Effects Of Maltreatment On Childhood Brain Development Effects Of Maltreatment On Childhood Brain Development Alysa Treat T00587098 November 8th, 2016 Neurobiology Dr. Sayyed Abstract Childhood maltreatment is a prevalent problem through out the world. As a child grows and matures the brain continues to develop according its experiences. During this time sensitive periods of development for different areas of the brain. A few areas that are of interest are the stress influenced areas, which are at an increased risk for developmental problems when exposed to maltreatment. The extra stress from such exposures can influence abnormalities throughout the brain, which have been linked to structure changes with in the corpus callosum, anterior cingulate, dorsolateral prefrontal, orbitofrontal cortex, and hippocampus, amygdala, and cerebellum, as well as changes to stress related hormone systems. These structural changes are associated with an increased risk of psychopathology and other life long educational and physiological risk. In 2013 an estimated 679,000 children were victims of maltreatment and approximately 3.1 million children received help from Childhood Protective Services in the United States alone. With the expanding prominence of multi level inverters, the opportunity to get better of the execution of voltage source inverters has persistently been tried for different applications. The fast improvement of high exchanging recurrence power gadgets in the previous decade leads towards more extensive use of voltage source inverters in AC power era. In this way, this prompts the requirement for a regulation method with less aggregate symphonious bending, less exchanging misfortunes, and more extensive direct balance range. The present theory highlights the examination of the customary two level inverter and the three level diode cinched inverters for the application in car industry. The proposition highlights the DC connection adjusting control which is the most ordinarily confronted issue in the event of a three level diode braced inverter, with no extra circuit. Changes of the regulation strategies for the acknowledgment of the DC connection adjusting control have been proposed. In her book she also addresses the growing massive globalization of corporations into global Goliaths. As scientists developed an increasing interest in the natural world, it became evident to many influential thinkers of the late eighteenth century, such as the Comte de Buffon and Jean Baptiste Lamarck that species changed gradually over time. While these prior scientists had ideas on evolution, their theories were often misguided and failed to threaten the status quo of society to any significant degree. Darwin s theory of evolution by natural selection, however, created a greater controversy. Not only did Darwin provide a functioning method of change backed up by copious amounts of scientific support, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What set Darwin apart from his predecessors, however, was his theory of natural selection. Natural selection is differential survival and reproduction. Those individuals that are best suited for their environment will have the best chance of being preserved in the struggle for life and will survive to produce offspring similarly characterised. Not only was his theory inspired by observations made while he was on the HMS Beagle, Darwin was heavily influenced by Thomas Malthus and his An Essay on the Principle of Population. Malthus states that population, when unchecked, increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio. Since resources are limited, a struggle for existence would inevitably ensue as individuals competed over available resources. There must be a strong and constantly operating check on population from the difficulty of subsistence. In a struggle for survival, those individuals most fit for their environment would outcompete those less fit. Malthus essay became essential for Darwin s understanding of natural selection. Furthermore, variation in individuals, Darwin determined, was largely due to random chance. Darwin did not believe, like Lamarck, that evolutionary change had an end goal in mind. Evolution did not always select for the most complex organism. This idea threatened the Christian world. If variation was random and there was no force directing evolution towards a specific goal, there was no room for God. Natural selection was seen as a threat to religion. There was limited room for divine intervention in Darwin s theory. Darwin himself, starting out as a firm believer in the supernatural, grew to be an atheist by his death. However, despite protests by theologians, there was a significant amount of empirical evidence backing up natural selection. For more than 10 years, Darwin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Sprayable Polymer-Based Foam Scientists have developed a new method to help battle major injuries for first responders and combat soldiers. The new anti bleeding material originates from shrimp shells and is later developed into a spraying foam. This new sprayable whipped cream like foam can significantly hault bleeding for even the most chronic open wounds, RT reported on Wednesday. The sprayable polymer based foam can be significantly vital for treating major injuries in street violence and combat zones. According to a ACS Biomaterials Science Engineering study, the sprayable foam is based on an Amphiphilic Biopolymer, and should be primarly used when compression is not an option for treating Hemorrhage. Researchers who conducted the study, made the following consideration. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some cases, hemorrhage can be stopped by applying compression of a tourniquet or bandage at the injury site. However, the majority of hemorrhages that prove fatal are non compressible , such as those due to an internal injury in the truncal region. They followed by stating. Currently, there is no effective way to treat such injuries. In this initial study, we demonstrate that a sprayable polymer based foam can be effective at treating bleeding from soft tissue without the need for compression. The active material chitosan (a biopolymer derived from the shells of shrimp and other crustaceans) is said by researchers to be used to physically connect blood cells into clusters via hydrophobic interactions , Business Insider reported. With an exciting new method to stop bleeding in the works, researchers went ahead and initiated several tests using the foam. Researchers found success after restricting blood from an injury to the liver of pigs. According to reports, within a few minutes of using the foam, bleeding from the pig s injuries stopped. Of course, without the use of compression and only the foam, about 90% blood loss was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Artists And The Art Trade While artists and the art trade were in the business of presenting the new, this was a conceptual challenge for museums. (Altshuler, 2008, 15). Discuss the challenges that advanced artistic practice presented for museums in the late 19th and early 20th century. The period of the second half of the 19th and the beginnings of the 20th century saw some of the most extensive transformations in the art market and the institution of the art museum in history. With the rise of the avant garde and new artistic practices, the traditional enlightenment didactic vision of the museum was put under threat. This essay will focus on the tension between the museum s historicity and the general tendency to move towards modernity and the discussions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the works acquired were still exclusively under the strict rule of the Academy, operated by the state. The rise of progressive artists advocating advanced art, pioneered by the likes of Courbet, Manet and others caused a re evaluation in the system of these principles. The coming of the avant garde together with the increased commercialisation of art set in motion an increased tension with the established institutions. Eventually this culminated in the formation of autonomous exhibition spaces where artists displayed their works separately from the Academy. This tradition began with the Salon des Refusés in 1863 and extended to establish a parallel to that which would have been traditionally the role of the state museums as the academy continued to turn away from progressive art practices. Although some of the contemporary works were acquired by the state, it was not until 1896 that the Luxembourg agreed to exhibits works of the impressionists, and it would be even later when state run institutions would acknowledge the full extent of the modern art tradition. In the span of the last decades of the 19th century, art in Europe began to focus itself on new developments in artistic practice. Exhibitions such as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Trends in the Industry of IT and the Business Cycles Essay The name information technology was used for the first time in 1958, in an article in Harvard Business Review and since that time this industry has seen only innovations throughout the history. Some problems that the industry is facing are the increase competition from the offshore and inshore players, the slow growth of the hardware sales, the decrease in the IT spending globally etc. But despite all the problems and challenges that the industry is facing, the opportunities are many. One of the most important ones is the increased number of the smart device users which is established as a very profitable segment for the information technology segment. The slowdown in the IT spending globally According to information technology industry estimates, global IT spending growth has been 2% which is smaller than the previous forecast of 4.1% for 2013. The decrease in the IT spending by enterprises as the cut on capital expenditure is due to economic uncertainties prevailing globally which could negatively impact the IBM s revenue growth. Competition from offshore players The competition from offshore players has been increasing in recently. Offshore IT outsourcers are selling directly to the end users and in this way they compete directly with the local suppliers of these services such as IBM. This phenomenon creates a highly competitive industry which makes companies to continually search for ways to differentiate themselves from their competitors. SlowGrowth in the hardware segment One of the main problems is the slow growth in the hardware segment. IBM sales growth has been flat in the last quarters because the company has been unable to successfully close new multimillion dollars hardware and software deals in the last year because of the bad economic conditions. The hardware sales have been declining because different firms prefer moving to cloud services which run largely on low cost hardware often custom build for cloud architectures. IBMs revenues from servers and hardware have been decreasing a lot. Even though IBM moved to a new high value area such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Popularity Of Chain Supermarkets Are Monopolizing The Market 1. How would you describe your knowledge of proliferation of chain supermarkets? The rate of proliferation of chain supermarkets is very fast and the number of branches increased rapidly. 2. Do you think chain supermarkets are monopolizing the market? If so, in what ways? Chain supermarkets are absolutely monopolizing the market. Chain supermarkets own nearly all of the market and many small sized grocery stores have to wind up their business as the turnover is insufficient for the expenditure. Other small sized enterprises like fruit stores also suffer hard in the sluggish competition with chain supermarkets and the income is reduced. A barrier is formed for others to enter the retail industry and the space for small sized enterprises to survive in the market is very small. 3 What do you think are the differences of a grocery stall and a chain supermarket? ... The turnover rate of a small sized enterprises, like my grocery shop is far lower than that of chain supermarkets. In terms of the business mode, chain supermarkets can provide more discounts for the consumers but due to the limited capital, grocery shops cannot follow suit. Thus, most consumers would tends to shop in a chain supermarkets instead of grocery shops, especially during the discount period. Although both the staff of the grocery stores and the staff of the chain supermarkets would chat with the customers, I think the hospitality and human touch in small sized enterprises is still higher. Established customers like to purchase in my grocery stall and chat with me. They have been supporting my business for a long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Why Students Should Be A University Essay Transferring to a four year college or university can be challenging depending on some factors, but it is not an impossible task. Two year colleges like NOVA are working closely with four year universities to ensure this transition is smooth and easy. Four year institutions and universities have also recognized what a transfer student can bring to their schools. Most students attend community college with a plan of transferring to a four year university. Community Colleges have great opportunities for their students, with high resources, affordable expenses and small classrooms students have many reasons for choosing community colleges as a freshman. Nonetheless, an Associate Degree is designed to be a transition rather than an end goal. According to a study done by Community College Research Center (CCRC), While 81 percent of entering community college students indicate they want to earn a bachelor s degree or higher, only 33 percent of entering students actually transfer to a four year institution within six years (CCRC,2016). There are many factors why students should consider transferring to a university to at least earn a bachelor s Degree. The main point being, four year university helps students continue a path of academic and career success. As a student moves out of the two years community college experience, the academic opportunities become broader. Moreover, academic facilities at four year universities offer great resources. • 46. The Success Of Accuracy And Efficiency Of Neuromorphic... The success of accuracy and efficiency of neuromorphic architectures led to the the advent of more applications that demanded even more work in this field.Advancement at architecture level and state of the art in silicon neural processing began in the early 1980 s when Carver Mead, widely regarded as the father of neuromorphic computing, wrote the book Analog VLSI and Neural Systems. . The following sections of the paper provide a comprehensive survey of the prior art discussing the current trends in neuromorphic chips. A. Device Technology and Neuron Architecture Developments in electronic devices is trending towards lesser area and more functionality. This trend has been driven by Moore s Law (*?) [1965_Moore] which states that transistor density will double every 18 months and as it is evident from roadmap of semiconductor technology that this law has reached its bottleneck[3].So when scaling in terms of dimensions and voltage was no longer and effective alternative we enter into the More than Moore regime that involves exploring other alternative strategies for improving efficiency and transistor density and neuromorphic architectures is one of them. Digital neurons are able to have high throughput, consume less power, and increase the density, which make a compelling argument for their future.Analog neuron don t affect scaling yet they still have a seat at the table when it comes to neuromorphic architectures. • 47. Negative Effects Of Red Meat Meat is an important staple in human diets and nutrition, but not every type of meat is healthy. Red meat is defined as meat that is red when it is raw, for example beef or lamb. It is consumed in mass amounts all over the world, although there are risks involved in consuming so much red meat. Previous research has connected red meat to increased risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers. It also causes an increased risk of mortality. The components put into meat, whether processed or unprocessed, adds to these risks and is unhealthy to put in the body. However, there are some benefits to eating red meat such as getting vitamins and minerals like B 12 and iron as well as using it as a source of protein. Too much red meat consumption negatively affects people s health by causing health problems, creating increased risk for diseases and certain cancers through the processing of the meat as well as how the body reacts to it. There are many risks when people eat high levels of red meat. A study suggests that consumption of red meat and heart disease are tied together because of gut microbes breaking down carnitine, which helps metabolism and is found in red meat. These microbes help break down food, in the process forming small compounds. One of these compounds is trimethylamine, which when metabolized forms trimethylamine N oxide (TMAO). It is associated with atherosclerosis, which is the build up of fats, cholesterol, and other materials in and on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
