The client is a discount brand
catering to airport travelers. Actively
managed and owned by its founders,
the organization has enjoyed robust
growth and positive operating
income for over twenty years.
Established on the basis of joining
technology-enabled efficiencies with
proactive price management, the
company has been successfully
growing airport rental market share
and positioning itself as a viable
alternative to the larger brands in the
car rental space. The company has
retail locations mainly located on the
west and east coast.
The client recognized the need for
changes and technology leadership
to meet future business objectives. I
was engaged to perform:
 An end-to-end IT assessment of the
current environment
 Develop solutions that would
resolve current business issues
 Implement PCI Compliance
 Develop a 1-3 year high-level IT
strategy and roadmap to support
business growth and challenges
Approach
To address the client’s current
challenges, we:
 Utilized an Strategic Planning
Framework and Methodology
based upon experience working
with Big 5 consulting firms
 Conducted site visits and
interviewed key personnel
throughout the business
 Completed IT environment
discovery using asset inventory,
ITIL, COBIT, PCI, Security Audit,
and CMMI assessments
 Hire team members to deliver
critical application projects
 Identified and documented people,
products, process, partners,
technology & business issues,
improvement opportunities
 Provided an review of key business
processes and provided
recommendations to automate and
improve customer experience
 Summarized the current state of IT,
solution options and proposed
implementation approach
 Completed a high level business
case, return on investment (ROI),
benchmark IT cost spend and time-
phased implementation schedule
Results
Worked with the client to discover
and implement key projects that
would help enable their business
strategy and implemented key
initiatives to reduce current revenue
impacting operations issues. The
proposed solutions and roadmap
included PCI compliance, mobile car
return application implementation,
Infrastructure relocation, and
B2B/B2C web modification. Projects
that were completed during the
engagement provided the following
benefits:
 Car rental counter processing
dramatically improved by
replicating production data and
running reports against new
mirrored database
 Significantly reduced risk and
exposure by completing a security
audit and remediating the results
 Protected revenue by assessing
financial processing and
implementing PCI compliance
