There are several types of busbar systems for connecting electrical equipment in substations. The main types are single busbar, main and transfer bus, double busbar, breaker and one-and-a-half system, and ring mains system. The selection of a busbar system depends on factors like the required operational flexibility, immunity from shutdowns, installation costs, and the load handled. Busbars can be rigid pipes or strain wires supported by insulators overhead.

2. INTRODUCTION
• Busbar system is a system where all incoming and outgoing feeders, lines,
transformers are connected through isolator and breaker.
• The selection of any busbar system depends upon
 Amount of flexibility required in operation.
 Immunity from total shut-down.
 Initial cost of the installation.
 Load handled by the busbar.

3. Different types of bus-bar system
• Single busbar

4. SINGLE BUS-BAR
In this scheme, the generators, feeders, transformers are connected to busbar
through isolator switches and circuit breakers as shown in the figure.

Rigid Bus
• In the rigid type, pipes are used for bus bars and also for
making connections among the various equipments wherever
required.
• Since the bus-bars are rigid the clearances remain constant.
• Due to large diameter of the pipes, the corona loss is also
substantially less.

10. strain type bus bars
• The strain type bus bars are an overhead system of
wires strung between two supporting structures and
supported by strain type insulators.
• The stringing tension may be limited to 500-900 kg.
depending upon the size of the conductor used. These
types of busbars are suitable for earthquake prone
areas.
