More than any other big data technology, Hadoop has captured the interest and attention of business leaders because it redefines the economics of data management and enables the discovery of relationships and insights in data sets that were previously hidden or out of reach. According to Gartner, 68 percent of Hadoop adoption is initiated within the C-suite. To respond to this interest, organizations will need to understand how Hadoop works, how it can complement existing systems and workloads to modernize the data pipeline, how it can deliver the business value expected, and how you can prepare to implement it and get started more easily. In this session, you will get answers to these pressing questions from a panel of Dell customers who have relied on Dell’s experience and long-standing partnership with Cloudera to successfully design and deploy Hadoop systems that helped transform the business with data.
Ensuring Cloud Native Success: The Greenfield JourneyVMware Tanzu
Speaker: Coté, Director, Technical Marketing, Pivotal
Are you being asked to put more cloud in your strategy? If you’re like most people, the answer is a definite yes. The word “cloud” can mean so many things, however, that making an actionable strategy is impossible. At Pivotal, we divide cloud into two distinct parts: migrating as many legacy applications into SaaS as possible and focusing on perfecting the software you build in-house that runs your business. Gartner is predicting that by 2020, 75% of applications used to support digital businesses will be built in-house. If you’re one of these companies, you’ll need to quickly evaluate how you develop and run your custom written software.
We believe that soon, every company will either be a software company or losing to a competitor who is. It’s time to focus on the craft of managing the software development life-cycle, and this brief, but dense webinar will help launch your efforts to become a software defined business.

I. Data is taxing companies in three ways: it strains infrastructure through copying, has a high financial price tag, and many companies are unaware of this "data tax".
II. The data tax hits companies hard through increased IT costs, slowed application development, and decreased business opportunities. Measuring before and after Delphix shows median app development throughput can increase 2x.
III. While companies think they have the best processes, Delphix asks them to measure how long it takes developers to get environments to show there are usually better options like Delphix that can significantly reduce the data tax.
In this session we will discuss the use of Agile constructs within the domain of software architecture. This will include an exploration of how to balance emergent designs with intentional planning. Additional ancillary topics will also be addressed including: common architecture principles, guidelines for measuring good architecture, and an evaluation of agile techniques.
By the end of the session, attendees will have a new perspective on architecture that will empower them to create flexible software solutions.

The Case for Automated Network Diagramming a NetBrain WhitePaperKen Flott
Network diagrams are perhaps the most crucial tools network teams need to do their jobs. They serve as a guide that supports the role of the network engineer. Network engineers need easy access to precise network diagrams to facilitate their day-to-day responsibilities. Without accurate network diagrams, engineers cannot:
• Repair outages
• Implement a new network design
• Reconfigure the network
• Confirm their networks’ compliance with SOX, HIPAA, or PCI standards
Most urgently, network documentation is central to troubleshooting. When network engineers are troubleshooting, the network diagram is the most valuable asset they can leverage. If network diagrams are not accurate and up-to-date, they are completely unreliable and therefore useless.

Money Pitfalls and Failed Expectations: Optimizing Essentials for the CloudNicole Maus
Cloud promised a simple pay-as-you-go approach to technology, with cost-savings at the top of the agenda. But data from 451 Research finds that costs are a major issue for enterprises as new pricing models, services and features introduce waste and complexity into the procurement process. In this webinar, we examine the challenge facing enterprises and find a level of intricacy that can’t be solved using manual process – tools and expertise are needed.
This document discusses the challenges facing the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry and how building information modeling (BIM) can help address them. It defines BIM and explains how it changes the nature of practice by integrating the design process. BIM allows for better visualization, coordination, analysis and supply chain integration. Firms can take a horizontal, vertical or progressive approach to adopting BIM. BIM improves productivity and accuracy by focusing on the building model rather than traditional drawings.
This document discusses the benefits of implementing Building Information Modeling (BIM) on projects. It argues that BIM, when used comprehensively ("BIG BIM"), can transform the construction industry by improving efficiency, reducing waste, and enabling more informed decision-making. In contrast, using only certain BIM tools or on small portions of a project ("little bim") will not achieve these full benefits. The document urges industry professionals to embrace BIG BIM in order to create a more productive and sustainable built environment.

Quest: How Lean & IPD contribute to Building Smart Energy CommunitiesMurray Guy
By turning our communities into Smart Energy Communities, we can improve energy efficiency, cut costs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Canada.
So what is a Smart Energy Community?
First, a Smart Energy Community integrates conventional energy networks. That means that the electricity, natural gas, district energy, and transportation fuel networks in a community are better coordinated to match energy needs with the most efficient energy source.
Second, a Smart Energy Community integrates land use, recognizing that poor land use decisions can equal a whole lot of energy waste.
Third, a Smart Energy Community harnesses local energy opportunities.
How Lean and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) help to achieve the 6 Principles for Smart Energy Communities
1. First Reduce Energy Requirements
2. Optimize Exergy
3. Manage Heat Capture
4. Reduce Waste
5. Renewable Energy
6. Energy Delivery Systems
The document discusses how digital technologies and data can help address sustainability issues like reducing CO2 emissions and increasing climate change resilience. It provides examples of how technologies like the Internet of Things, analytics, and cognitive computing can give insights into issues like energy usage, transportation flows, and infrastructure management. These insights can then be used to improve operational efficiency, better prepare for and respond to events, and foster new forms of collaboration. The document argues that, with the right approaches and by treating data as a new natural resource, digital technologies have the potential to significantly reduce CO2 emissions from various economic sectors and help build more climate resilient systems.

MoneyBall: High performance at less costMurray Guy
As portrayed in the movie Moneyball, Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) the GM for the Oakland A’s implemented a performance metrics system called Sabmetrics that enabled his team to become one of most successful low budget teams in baseball!
By finding undervalued performance with on-base percentage players, young and older talent, the Oakland A’s have consistently outperformed the competition. In doing so the A’s have completely dispelled the myth that there needs to be tradeoffs between cost and performance.
If we were to adopt this same thinking for the building industry, could we deliver a CHAMPIONSHIP building that produces as much energy as it uses at no additional cost? (Net 0-0)

Fall accidents are the leading cause of injuries and fatalities in the US construction industry. While the number of construction-related fall fatalities has declined between 2006-2010, falls still account for about one-third of construction industry work-related deaths. OSHA data also shows that failure to provide fall protection is the most frequently cited violation. Falls in construction typically result in more serious injuries, with average missed work time of at least 10 days. Falls also reflect the highest costs of worker's compensation and medical expenses compared to other construction accidents.

Comparative analysis between traditional aquaponics and reconstructed aquapon...bijceesjournal
The aquaponic system of planting is a method that does not require soil usage. It is a method that only needs water, fish, lava rocks (a substitute for soil), and plants. Aquaponic systems are sustainable and environmentally friendly. Its use not only helps to plant in small spaces but also helps reduce artificial chemical use and minimizes excess water use, as aquaponics consumes 90% less water than soil-based gardening. The study applied a descriptive and experimental design to assess and compare conventional and reconstructed aquaponic methods for reproducing tomatoes. The researchers created an observation checklist to determine the significant factors of the study. The study aims to determine the significant difference between traditional aquaponics and reconstructed aquaponics systems propagating tomatoes in terms of height, weight, girth, and number of fruits. The reconstructed aquaponics system’s higher growth yield results in a much more nourished crop than the traditional aquaponics system. It is superior in its number of fruits, height, weight, and girth measurement. Moreover, the reconstructed aquaponics system is proven to eliminate all the hindrances present in the traditional aquaponics system, which are overcrowding of fish, algae growth, pest problems, contaminated water, and dead fish.

Advanced control scheme of doubly fed induction generator for wind turbine us...IJECEIAES
This paper describes a speed control device for generating electrical energy on an electricity network based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) used for wind power conversion systems. At first, a double-fed induction generator model was constructed. A control law is formulated to govern the flow of energy between the stator of a DFIG and the energy network using three types of controllers: proportional integral (PI), sliding mode controller (SMC) and second order sliding mode controller (SOSMC). Their different results in terms of power reference tracking, reaction to unexpected speed fluctuations, sensitivity to perturbations, and resilience against machine parameter alterations are compared. MATLAB/Simulink was used to conduct the simulations for the preceding study. Multiple simulations have shown very satisfying results, and the investigations demonstrate the efficacy and power-enhancing capabilities of the suggested control system.

Electric vehicle and photovoltaic advanced roles in enhancing the financial p...IJECEIAES
Climate change's impact on the planet forced the United Nations and governments to promote green energies and electric transportation. The deployments of photovoltaic (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) systems gained stronger momentum due to their numerous advantages over fossil fuel types. The advantages go beyond sustainability to reach financial support and stability. The work in this paper introduces the hybrid system between PV and EV to support industrial and commercial plants. This paper covers the theoretical framework of the proposed hybrid system including the required equation to complete the cost analysis when PV and EV are present. In addition, the proposed design diagram which sets the priorities and requirements of the system is presented. The proposed approach allows setup to advance their power stability, especially during power outages. The presented information supports researchers and plant owners to complete the necessary analysis while promoting the deployment of clean energy. The result of a case study that represents a dairy milk farmer supports the theoretical works and highlights its advanced benefits to existing plants. The short return on investment of the proposed approach supports the paper's novelty approach for the sustainable electrical system. In addition, the proposed system allows for an isolated power setup without the need for a transmission line which enhances the safety of the electrical network

Good morning(afternoon).
We are here to share with you how we are literally building the future and why you should join us in that journey.
It is an industry that represents 11% of total global GDP. An industry projected to grow (by almost 70%) to $12 trillion by 2020.
(Check McGraw-Hill Construction Outlook)
And to keep growing to support a global population that will hit 9 billion by 2050, that will require three times more buildings than exist on the planet today.
With 70% of people wanting to live in urban centers, this growth is equivalent to adding a city the size of London every month for a century.
(Source: IHS Global Insights and McKinsey Research)
But why exactly Newforma?
And why the need for transformation?
Today, the industry is broken. 85% of projects either finish late or run over budget.
It’s fragmented and inefficient. It’s running on razor-thin margins. And it’s incredibly conservative, resistant to change.
The amount of waste in our industry is simply unsustainable. 85% of projects are late or over budget. Here are just three examples:
- Chicago Millennium Park: 3 years late and $258 million over budget
- The BBC Headquarters in London: 4 years and 110 million pounds over budget
- NY’s Metropolitan Transit Authority’s East Side Access project: 10 years and $4.4 billion over budget
Unfortunately there are LOTS of other examples.
Note:
Another example of a stadium project (if more relevant to your situation):
- Wembley Stadium
- £430m over budget
- 3 years late
- and a huge litigation battle!

Voice – conviction to change
Owners are no longer willing to suffer the consequences of traditional project delivery and they are demanding a new wave of transformation…

As well as the building technology to design and construct the first mile high skyscraper as the world’s tallest building in Jeddah Saudi Arabia ‐‐ with four Newforma customers in key design roles on the project (Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, architects – Thornton Tomasetti, structural engineers – ESD, MEP – and HOK, master planners)
A new generation of technology is needed to manage the many challenges involved to deliver these innovative projects today and the buildings of the future.
The global building industry and all of its stakeholders - architects, engineers, contractors and owners - fully realize that as the complexity and scale of such projects has risen, so too has the risk.
And the fact is that you could replace the word risk with cost, waste, lost profit, increased delivery time, and rework.
A litany of consequences that impact every participant in the building value chain.
The idea of transformation is not new for our industry: though slow‐moving, it is constantly transforming.
From master builders in the 1800s…
To architects, engineers and construction companies operating in silos of expertise in the 1900s…
To today - - where the frustration of late delivery, the loss of billions of dollars in cost overruns and expensive litigation are demanding a different approach to project delivery, new forms of contract and technology innovation.
The construction industry is coming to realize that the answer lies in better integration of people… ideas… processes… information.
That it needs to stop the fragmentation for every stakeholder to be more successful and more profitable.
The transformation is beginning. People are getting on board with ideas like integrated project delivery, lean construction, LEED certification and more sophisticated building information modeling.
Our goal is to be right in the thick of things, driving integration and driving transformation.
When technology innovations and business model innovations converge, that’s when industries actually change – and that is our opportunity.
Newforma has pioneered subscription-based software licensing for architects, engineers, construction companies, and owners.
In addition we are providing innovative software and digital processes that drive integration across all phases of project delivery for every member of the project team.
And that is our opportunity.
With our entirely new model to take a holistic view of project delivery for the entire project team, we are at the core of the industry’s transformation.
It starts with a belief, based on this quote from Albert Einstein: that “we can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
Our task is one that doesn’t just make the process better – we need to make a better process.
Newforma customers are operating in a way that is faster, leaner, more efficient, and more integrated. They know that this is what is essential for them to transform their business, to lead innovation and capture competitive advantage.
Here’s how it works:
Today, there are people, tools and technology to manage projects.
And separate people, tools and technology to manage information.
This lack of integration is a root cause of all the problems that we’ve just been talking about:
Cost overruns, lost profit, rework, waste, risk, massive litigation and even anger…
We are the first company to unite the power of people with the power of data for ALL the stakeholders responsible for a project.
We integrate project management and information management through our innovative Newforma software that creates a better process for project delivery, captures project intelligence, empowers decision-making, provides transparency and drives accountability.
And it actually goes beyond information.
We’re integrating teams of architects, engineers, construction companies and owners – locally and globally – more closely than they’ve ever been integrated before.
And we’re doing it all by integrating office, field, mobile and cloud-based tools and technologies in ways that have the power to transform the way the industry works.
What this means for your business is greater speed of project delivery, increased accountability for all project team members, and more integration – which as we’ve talked about is driving the next wave of our industry’s transformation.
Ultimately your team will have more trust in the people they’re working with, the process they’re using, and the accuracy of the information itself.
They will be empowered to play a role in not just building better buildings, but also building a smarter industry.
Our customer partners always tell us that their ROI with Newforma is measured in hours, days, weeks and months that ultimately translate to significant cost savings.
Some customers have measured their ROI post deployment like BDP a 800 person AE practice in the UK who have calculated an annual savings of 216,000 British Pounds

….including many of the global leaders in our industry.
We have a suite of integrated digital products that support everyone from your entire company, to a team working on a specific project, to individuals in the field.
Our products always integrate with your existing technologies, as well as your external partners – whether your external partners are Newforma customers or not.
