The document summarizes the DXLab, the first innovation lab at the State Library of New South Wales. The Allard Pierson museum in Amsterdam celebrates its 75th anniversary by showcasing new technologies that help to understand and enjoy cultural heritage in the exhibition ‘The Future for our Past’. This exhibition focuses not only on innovative ways to digitise and showcase cultural heritage, but provides a rich, visual language that is in line with the current youth culture. The exhibition shows augmented reality on mobile devices (showing for example the Forum in Rome in 320 AD), allows to walk your avatar through the ruins and reconstructions of the villa of Livia (the wive of emperor Augustus) or shows the broken statue of a pharao being transported in time to its original state. By focusing on heritage education for youngsters, the exhibition makes a firm statement on where the Future of the Past lies. Together with this exhibition, a series of workshops for cultural heritage experts will be held that shows the workflow behind each setup at the exhibition and allows to get acquainted with the do’s and don’ts of these new technologies. In other words, due to the complex, systemic, and interrelated nature of the serious social, economic, and environmental problems confronting us, we need entirely new forms of solutions. Clearly, we humans must learn to think differently about our complex world and to work together in unusual and very strategic new ways. We need to more fully see and understand the systems within which we all exist so that we can learn to identify and create conditions for social innovation.

With the world moving at such a rapid pace, new stuffs are coming out at a speed never before. Regardless of your age, gender, how educated you are, where you are from, how much money you have or which position you hold in a company, embracing changes and learning new things should have become a way of life. Otherwise, you’ll soon find yourself becoming obsolete… or even redundant. Looking back, in a matter of just 10 years, the amount of information and data has increased by 10 folds. That’s a lot! On the other hand, the amount of time that we have in a single day – 24 hours – is exactly the same as it was 10 years back. So, that also means with the same amount of time that every one of us has, we now have at least 10x more information to consume and digest, with more coming out every day. This can be really overwhelming! Therefore, to keep pace, we all have to learn how to learn faster. In this deck, I share with you 7 ideas that might help you learn new stuff more efficiently. Stephanie (Charlie) Farley, Gavin Willshaw This was presented at the Playful Learning conference, Manchester, July 2017. The University of Edinburgh’s (UoE) Information Services Group (ISG) has developed a Playful Engagement strategy, utilising playfulness to create interest, boost attendance, and encourage interaction with its services and activities. We target appropriate workplace learning opportunities which support our strategic priorities in developing digital skills, engaging with open educational practices, promoting diverse role models and using our collections in innovative ways. Activities have been designed to: • model good practice • re-use existing designs • stimulate social learning • focus on authentic tasks with tangible outcomes • support reporting on staff engagement. This workshop will present our approach, providing opportunities for delegates to experience and reflect on examples of our playful engagement activities. Each activity will be set up in a separate area of the room, with information about the activity and its use in ISG provided to the group. Case studies (which you can take away with you) highlight how we have aligned our activities to University strategic aims while also utilising the full potential of gamification, friendly competition, use of metadata, a focus on facts, makers and sharers, third wave feminism, Dolly the sheep, and copious baked goods. Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing

Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process. In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds. - These are slides of the talk given at IEEE International Conference on Software Testing Verification and Validation Workshop, ICSTW 2022.

This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).
