Topic Computing - Information Presented The Way You ThinkDavid Lavenda
Information workers use over 9 apps/day, and have more than half of them open at any one time. This work experience makes it difficult for them to focus on what's important and to see the big picture. New developments in artificial intelligence, specifically natural language processing and machine learning, offer a new way to interact with the apps we already have - by topics. Cognitive science teaches us that our brains think in terms of associated topics, so it just makes sense that our interaction with technology should be in terms of topics, such as customer, product, or service, rather than by apps such as Outlook, Word, Salesforce, and Zendesk. This presentation describes the promise of Topic Computing

This document discusses 3 trends driving the adoption of AI into everyday enterprise use in 2022 and beyond. The first trend is that business users are starting to deliver more value with AI than data scientists alone. This is enabled by citizen data science programs that upskill analysts and business people to work directly with data and build AI models. The second trend is the convergence of automation, business intelligence, and AI into a single practice. The third trend is that over 50% of machine learning projects that organizations want to deploy are making it into production.

The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
13. What are Good Apps?
Easy to use
Fulfill a need (send of receive data)
Smart actions (automate / integrate)
14. What are Killer Apps?
A great app with bad data is worthless
A bad app with great data is valuable!
A great app with great data is a killer app!
A great app performing smart actions is a killer app!
17. Errors
Example:
Why it matters: Be clear and specific
on what and where the user’s error is.
Oftentimes users perform unintended
actions or actions that didn’t lead to
desired results – and allowing them to
go back and try again means they
won’t be frustrated, guilty and
will recover easily and keep moving on
the flow.
18. Don’t use more than
3 primary colors
Example:
Why it matters: combining three colors
is difficult, so for most cases more than
that should be avoided. You can use a
secondary color like black, white or
grey for a large text. This way you keep
your App neutral and better to read.
19. Use language that the user understands
Why it matters: You can set the whole tone off your app with language. Is it an App
used for business? Make sure your language is set in the right tone.
20. Use icons who are
easy to recognize
Example:
Why it matters: Icons must first and
foremost communicate meaning.
When it’s not clear what the icon
represents, it immediately loses its
meaning and becomes nothing more
than visual noise. What makes an icon
great is the fact that its meaning can
be understood without reading a label.
21. Use pictures who
give a point of focus
Example:
Why it matters: You can use photo’s to
let people get their focus to the right
place on the screen. The most
powerful iconic images consist of a few
meaningful elements, with minimal
distractions.
22. What are Killer Apps?
A Great app with
Great content (send receive valuable data) or
Smart actions (automation or integration)
23. What do Killer Apps do?
Easy access or creation of valuable data (on the go)
Data in SharePoint, SQL Server, CDS or API
26. Put all your data to work with
Common Data Service for Apps
Jumpstart apps using a standardized data model

To disrupt and innovate, industries must take on a strategy that connects their customers, employees, products and operations as effectively as possible. Streamlining their business to respond to customer demands, and pooling data across the organization so that analytics can hunt.
A concrete connected Business applications strategy and implementation can support industries that are looking to disrupt.
When you think about the real connection point between organizations—it’s the data—and the applications that are enabling forward motion.
Interconnected business applications are fundamental to ensure the most robust data is being generated and harnessed so that:
Customers have ideal experiences
Employees are empowered to do their best
Operations can ensure effectiveness and efficiency across the business
And that the best products and services are being developed and delivered

The framework we use to highlight how digital transformation is enabled is what we call digital feedback loop. And at the center is data. Data is coming out of everything. Every single product at this point is being wired up with telemetry and the ability to collect data – for example, my thermostat at my house knows when I'm changing my temperature.
Every motor that's manufactured at this point is emitting telemetry. Every time I browse the web there's telemetry being created. And so this torrent of information allows us to better understand our customers, our operations, the use of our products and services is fuel for this transformation….
<click>
….which then allows us to go mine for intelligence, predict what customers may need, understand when a piece of equipment is on its way to a challenging spot or to a failure before it gets there.
<click>
Taking all of this information, these predictions, and then feeding that back into your business processes, this is where the change is occurring.
