Project Brief
Integrating Child Centered CSR in West Java and Beyond
Goal:
Improved living and working conditions for children and youth in West Java and beyond
Immediate Objective 1: Demonstrate why it makes good business to integrate CC CSR in business
operations and strategies. This approach will include the development of six business cases illustrating
how Indonesian companies in the retail and hotel industries have worked with CC CSR and the benefits
they have realized. Two toolkits for applying ‘UN Guiding Principles’ and“The ‘Children’s Rights and
Business Principles’ on strategies and operations will be developed to support businesses in the target
industries integrating CC CSR. As the specific challenges business and children face varies across sectors
and geographies, these toolkits will be context specific: One for the retail industry and one for the
hospitality industry both in West Java. Trainings and workshops will be conducted to complement the
toolkits and broader dissemination of the approaches will be sought through online dissemination of the
toolkits and via existing knowledge networks.
Immediate Objective 2: Strengthened capacities of key private and public stakeholders in promoting
and integrating CC CSR with the corporate sector. To increase impact, create sustainability and
transformational changes, this project will work with the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneur Association
(APRINDO), the Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce
(Kadin) and with district and national policy levels. These stakeholders will be capacitated to influence
the target industries to initiate integration of CC CSR. The industry associations will through the project
build knowledge and capacities in CC CSR to the extent that they can advice their members on CC CSR
and conduct trainings and workshops in line with the toolkits. The project will advocate for CC CSR
with district and national policy levels and highlight their responsibilities to ensure business respect child
rights. The project will provide evidence based recommendations for replication and scale-up of CC
CSR initiatives as well as for adjustments or development of new policies and initiatives to advance the
CRBP agenda. The project will be carried out in partnership with businesses, public and private
stakeholders, INGO’s and the children themselves. The strong involvement of stakeholders is important
as further attainment of child rights in Indonesia will require strong leadership from the private sector
and partners. Through their involvement and by capacitating them to take on the CRBP agenda, the
project aims at creating sustainable solutions.
Indicators:
Indicator 1: 60 companies will have commenced on/increased the integration of CC CSR by end of the
project. The following sub-indicators will be used:: # of companies that have:
Established policy commitments in terms of their responsibility to respect child rights
- Undertaken a due diligence assessing actual and potential children's rights impact
- Established child sensitive remediation mechanism
- Taken action to support children's rights
- Monitored and tracked progress on their responses to child rights issues
- Communicated externally on their efforts to address business impact on child rights
Indicator 2: National OR district policy levels will have initiated two initiatives to facilitate
/put pressure on businesses to adopt and integrate CC CSR. Indicator 3: PHRI and
APRINDO will have prioritized to allocate time for staff members to work on CC CSR
These targets are to be achieved by end of the project period.

Target Groups/Partners: To reach the beneficiaries, this project will work with companies in
West Java’s hospitality - and retail industries and their suppliers. The target companies are the
members of PHRI and APRINDO. The project also targets potential agents of change to ensure the
project benefits will continue beyond the project period. These agents of change include Kadin, PHRI
and APRINDO. They will be capacitated to deliver trainings, workshops and advisory services on CC
CSR to their members. This will not only make their service offer towards their members stronger, but
also potentially create new business opportunities. Finally, the district and national levels (primarily
with the Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child
Protection) are target groups and potential agents of change.
