INTRODUCTION
The following assignment evaluates the degree of organizational ethics and examines the
various techniques and strategies through which WIPRO is fulfilling their responsibilities to
key stakeholders. CSR can be defined as “A company's sense of responsibility towards the
community and environment (both ecological and social) in which it operates. Companies
express this citizenship through their waste and pollution reduction processes, by contributing
educational and social programs and by earning adequate returns on the employed resources.
As the era of liberalization, privatization and globalization set in India in 1991, many of
the companies which were already established and the companies which were established later
saw tremendous growth in terms of size as well as profits. Some of the companies looked beyond
profits and started doing something good for the cause of the society. This assignment aims in
evaluating the company’s ethics and CSR through various CSR activities conducted by the
company and various theories and articles that support organizational ethics.

EVALUATING CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
PERFORMANCE
In today's fast-changing business world, companies are facing multiple new
environmental, social, and cultural challenges that in large part determine their capacity to
establish, maintain, and protect their business, and to deliver sustainable growth to benefit all.
The achievements of companies in the area of sustainable development are currently
evaluated using the data provided on their website, in their annual report, and in their CSR
report. There is an underlying trend to merge these into an integrated report that discloses, in one
reference document, the company’s financial and extra-financial information.
Rating agencies rework and interpret the elements provided using criteria and
methodologies they have developed in-house to rank company performance and results.
A panel discussion at the World Economic Forum concluded that the approach adopted
by rating agencies presents a number of shortcomings, including:
Inadequate transparency on evaluation criteria and methodology
High degree of inter-agency divergence with respect to a company's evaluation and
ranking
Absence of media impact and reputation analysis
Essentially backward-looking evaluations that provide little prognosis

CSR standards
A CSR standard provides transparency and evidence of accountability. It embodies two types of
challenges:
i. The first challenge concerns the society’s expectations
ii. The second one incorporates the implementation activities in order to satisfy these
expectations.
However, none of the proposed CSR standards can satisfy these challenges simultaneously.
The selection of the CSR standard depends not only on the internationalized orientation of
the companies but also on the comprehensiveness of the local expectations and needs of society.
The global standards in most of the cases are more demanding than the local ones, while the
regional or local standards seem to adapt CSR to particular conditions of the country or region
where companies operate.
Larger companies tend to integrate CSR activities in their operations because they are
more visible to stakeholders and the cost of CSR standards, code conducts and social reports is
relatively small compared with that of small or medium size companies
RATING METHODOLOGY
The rating methodology is based on seven founding principles:
Evidence Based
Industry sector, country and size matter
Diversification of sources
Technology is a must
Assessment by international CSR experts
Traceability and transparency
Excellence through continuous improvements

WIPRO’S CSR POLICY TO THE STAKEHOLDERS
Wipro’s engagement with social and ecological issues goes back a long time. The central
tenets of their approach have been the emphasis on strong, meaningful work on systemic social
issues. Their CSR policy articulated below therefore reflects these principles and strategies that
have informed our long history of corporate citizenship and social responsibility over the years.
Their approach to social responsibility and sustainability rests on three important pillars
a. The Strategic: They choose domains and issues to engage with that are force multipliers for
social change and sustainable development. Social responsibility is as much about being a
sustainable organization as it is about external initiatives. Therefore, some of our areas of
engagement lie at the convergence of business goals and social purpose.
b. The Systemic: Within the chosen domains, they choose to engage on systemic issues that
require deep, meaningful and challenging work. Given the nature of social change, this implies
commitment over the long term, typically for several decades because real, genuine change does
that long to happen
c. The Deliberative: The emphasis on depth and on long term commitment implies a
deliberative approach that precludes spreading ourselves thin or engaging in ‘cheque book
philanthropy’. By implication, this also means that we are wary of expanding and growing our
social programs as ends in themselves. They will continue to adhere to this approach going
forward.
