Orca whales have been in difficult circumstances ever...
Orca whales have been in difficult circumstances ever since the first orca was captured in 1961.
The first orca captured lived two days in captivity then died and the reported cause of dead was
pneumonia. Many things come to mind when people think an orca is in captivity. Many people
tend to believe they are being treated, they will enjoy life more, and they will live longer due to
the fact they are receiving food and care. These statements are told to spectators at seaworld,
marinelandand many other water parks around the globe. The facts disagree with these statements.
Orca are very friendly animals, there have been no recorded attacks of orcas hurting any human
being in the wild. Most of them will come up to fishers boats and be... Show more content on

Most trainers received their job just walking in and applying. (Pg1) Another sad reason that orca
s may show aggression is most parks separate there baby s from the mother that way they can
ship them to other locations for visitors. Kalina was the first shamu born in captivity. Since most
whales live together in pods for all their life trainers thought Kalina and her mother Katina would
live together. Although at just age four management of Sea World decided that Kalina was too
much of a distraction when her mother was performing in shows. They relocated baby Kalina to
another park separating the baby from her mother. That same night her mother made a very high
pitched long distance call trying to find her daughter. Most scientists that work with whales say
they have never heard anything like it. Katina clearly was sad because her baby was taken from
her. SeaWorld chose to ignore this though because it was not profitable if the baby where to stay
with her mother. Orcas lives are decreased significantly in captivity. Today over one hundred fifty
eight orcas have lived in captivity. Two thirds of the orcas did not live past ten years (Pg1). The
average life span for an orca s have only increased a small bit since the nineteen sixties but still the
average life span is still very low. The current average life span for an orca is nine years. The
average lifespan in the wild for female

The National Security Act Of 1947
Even though President Truman implemented the Executive Order 9835 in order to ensure the
attainment of national security, it failed to do so in a legal manner. Any national intelligence
program such as the HUAC could not have legally used Truman s loyalty program in order to attain
national security. The National Security Act of 1947states that the methods of investigation utilized
by national intelligence programs should be free of political considerations ( National Security Act
of 1947, 12). Executive Order 9835shows how the HUAC s methods of investigation failed to be
independent of political considerations. As a broken loyalty program, Truman s Executive Order
was very opinionated. Any individual or organization deemed disloyal by the government without
any evidence of intending to subvert would be subject to further investigations done by
congressional investigation committees and other national intelligence programs. Those
conjectured as political leftists or fascists fell victim to loyalty screening despite not truly being of
an insubordinate nature. In this way, the broken system of loyalty determination created by
Executive Order 9835 cannot be justified through the attainment of national security since the
Executive Order failed to be independent of political opinions. Consequently, the HUAC failed to
comply with the official mandates of the National Security Act since its methods of investigation
were politically biased. In accordance with Truman s

Buzz Lightyear
What did Woody say to Buzz Lightyear? A lot. There were three movies! Toy Story being Pixar s
first feature film in 1995, was nominated for awards by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and
Sciences. In 1979 Pixar Animation Studios was founded as Graphics Group. It was originally the
computer division of Lucasfilm, and became its own corporation in 1986 with funding from Apple
cofounder Steve Jobs. People tend to think of creativity as a mysterious solo act, and they typically
reduce products to a single idea. Creativity must be present at every level of an organization. In

Before the merging, Disney had a leader that was ineffective and it showed in the work they
produced. I believe Catmull and Lasseter follow the House s Path Goal theory of leadership.
The basis of path goal is that effective leaders motivate subordinates to achieve goals by 1:
Clearly identifying the outcomes that subordinates are trying to obtain from the workplace. In
the Disney Pixar aspect, the main goal of everyone is to come up with new innovated film ideas
that have never been done before. Always trying to push the envelope. This in an interesting job
assignment, very challenging this day and age because everything is just getting bigger and
bigger. 2: Rewarding subordinates with these outcomes for high performance and the attainment
of work goals. I would think there would be compensation for producing a box office hit. There
is a shared interest in everyone s success. They really are a team, the success of a movie counts
on each and every person involved. And 3: Clarifying for subordinates the paths leading to the
attainment of work goals. To remove any obstacles, the company created an environment where
they remove the power structure. Everyone s notes are equal. Everyone is encouraged to share
ideas freely and honest feedback is given. This allows employees to

Police Enforcement Is An Evolving Agency Essay
Law enforcement has been an evolving agency just as many fields in the US. Most agencies have
the same goal, that is to prevent crime, investigate crime and apprehend criminals, maintain order,
and provide other miscellaneous services. The diversity in American cities is what makes law
enforcement unique, it has a huge impact and role as to how agencies operate with the citizens that
live in those communities. In the US policedepartments are more likely to use one of three or a
combination of 3 police strategies: community policing, problem oriented policing and zero
tolerance policing. With that being said all of these serve a purpose and have negative and
positives contributing effect onto communities. Through my experience and knowledge I have
learned from policing I would utilize a combination of problem oriented policing and community
policing if I were chief of police of a police department. Although both styles of policing have their
own goals and structures, problem oriented policing seems to tie in with community policing.
Utilizing these two styles would also help to bridge the gap between the community and the police.
Community policing is a model of policing that stresses a two way working relationship between
the community and the police, in which the police become more integrated into the local
community and citizens assume an active role in crime control and prevention, as stated in the
book The Police in America. This concept of policing style involves

How Did Henry Ford Impact The Automobile Industry
Henry Ford was the man who created the weekend and we thank him for that. Henry Ford
changed the car industry more than anyone before him. Ford was the man who started the Ford
Motor Company, the quadricycle, the Model T, and changed the way businesses run. Ford made
it farther with the help of friends, Thomas Edison who gave Ford a job at his plant. Due to all of
the things that Ford did, he impacted the car industry forever. The support in Ford s early life
helped him get to the inventor he was. Ford s parents supported him in his inventing, they gave
him a little work space in a barn for him to work on his invention. Henry Fordwas born on a farm
outside of Detroit, Henry was one of the children that William and Mary Ford had. Unsatisfied...

The Quadricycle was the first gasoline car Ford built, it was four horsepower and 6 cylinders.
Ford started working at Detroit Edison Company in 1890, He created and built three models of
the quadricycle while there. Henry decided to leave Edison s plant in 1898 to pursue his own
company. Ford sold his to finance work on a second vehicle, and a third, and so on. Ford used
his money to keep building his projects and create more things. Before leaving Edison s plant in
1898 Ford got his first patent on the carburetor. The quadricycle is what started Fords motor
journey in creating Ford Motors. The Detroit Motor Company was started in 1899 by Ford, It
would eventually be called Ford Motors. Before the Model T was perfected made Model N, S, and
R, none of them were as good as the Model T. Ford had investors that loved the Model T and its
success. Ford introduced the Model T, the first car to be affordable for most Americans, in
October 1908 and continued its construction until 1927. The Model T was able to be produced
for so long because of its investors, Charles Edgar, J.Frank Duryea, Elwood Haynes, and Hiram
Percy Maxim. The Model T only came in one color for the entire production of it. The Model A
was the new and improved Model T. The Model T s success wouldn t had been as great if ford

World Is Flat
In the video/summary of The world is flat by Friedman,. he was supporting globalization in the
21st century and he ignored the negative side of it. In his case, the term World is flat refers to the
leveling of the playing field between the economic dynamics of the West and the rising economic
powers of India and China. Friedman s idea is that because of huge improvements in technological
advances, the society is becoming more and more exceptional. He didn t to take into consideration
the realities concerning the fact that in society, for such a system to work with any kind of
sustainability it needs to create recovery to the ones that have been outsourced. Friedman s
resolution to this is that creativeness will take the place of the work... Show more content on

You can experience different circumstances. Friedman s idea is good and it mentioned that some
of our society s well successful enterprise are the ones that are most prepared to change but some
of them are still yet to invent or innovate anything, instead they are relying on finding new means
to produce existing products in a cheaper and faster way than their competitors, therefore raising
an environment that s not very conducive. The technology developers rarely benefit from the
majority of financial benefit from its sales agreement. He also basically he mentioned that you
have to stay educated because your line of work can become outdated in no time and then you
have to get new job skills quick. Personally, I feel that International business development in the
future will become huge as it is rapidly growing now. This particular area of business is often
ignored by professionals when making career decisions however no other sector offer such diverse

How Does Euclid Influence Greek Culture
Dunham begins his discussion in chapter 2 by noting the large growth in size and influence Greek
culture underwent during the time of figures such as Plato and Eudoxus. Greece was experiencing
a golden age for many intellectual areas of study, including mathematics. Initially, Dunham
mentions how physical areas were created for intellectual advancement and study, and later moves
into discussing how these institutions influenced important mathematicians, like Euclid, who
provided the first true proofs as we might see them written today, vocabulary notwithstanding. The
primary topic discussed in the chapter revolves around the work of Euclid. Euclid is attributed with
the creation of the Elements, which is a collection of mathematical works depicting... Show more

41), I.26 (pg. 43), I.27 (pg. 44), I.29 (pg. 45), and I.32 (pg.46). These propositions set the stage
for the great theorem of chapter 2 Euclid s proof of the Pythagorean Theorem. This proof is
important because, until this point in history, a formal written explanation and proof was not
existent despite its wide acceptance as truth. Proposition I.47 states, In right angled triangles, the
square on the side subtending the right angle is equal to the squares on the sides containing the
right angle. Euclid tackled the great proof by using geometry to describe the equation, c^2=
a^2+b^2, as seen in Figure 4. The ultimate goal is to show that the area covered by the two
smaller squares sum up to the area of the third square. Initially, we pose that triangle ABC is
right by design. Then, by proposition I.14, GAC must be a straight line. By examining the О”ABD
and О”FBC, we see that they have sides of (AB) М…=(FD) М… and (BD) М…=(BC) М… since
they are sides of squares. Next, since angle в€ABD=right angle+в€ABC and в€FBC=right
angle+в€FBA. Using postulate I.4 and common notion 2 we know в€ ABD=в€ FBC.
Consequently, Euclid could now show that ∆ABD=∆FBC by the side angle side triangle
congruence. Now Euclid applied his postulate I.41 to relate the area of the squares, to the area of a
triangle that shares the same base.

Helen Keller Analysis
Helen Keller was born normal, however, shortly after being born she suffered an illness that
caused her to be both blind and deaf. There is a movie about Helen s struggle called The Miracle
Worker . There is also a story by Helen Keller with called The Day Language Came into My Life .
Both the story and the movie, display how the miracles of language and learning allowed Helen
to overcome many obstacles in her life. This essay s purpose is to perform a literary critique of
both the movie and the excerpt about Helen Keller. Anne and Helen s characters, points of view,
and situation show the constant struggle of the desire for more knowledge even though the
odds are against her. The characters of Anne and Helen both offer different elements to this
story. In the story and movie, Helen is portrayed as lost in her younger years. She does not know
right from wrong; all she knows is happiness and anger. The movie shows a scene that involves
Helen walking around taking food off of her family members plates. The family does nothing to
stop Helen. They allow her to take whatever she wants so that they can continue in conversation.
This is appalling to Helen s teacher, Anne Sullivan. When Helen tries to take something off of her
plate she reacts and cannot believe the family allows this. This scene displays how Helen s life has
been thus far. It shows that because of her condition, her family never made her mind any manners.
This led to Helen knowing no difference between right and

The Superstitious And Mythical Figure Of The Vampire
The superstitious and mythical figure of the vampire has been seen throughout all era s off
history. It is a figure of mythology that is transcendent in an abundance of cultures and regions.
The most significant aspect of the vampire is its ability to redefine itself throughout history and
continued to stay relevant to society. The most modern and commonly known definition of
vampires is a preternatural being know to be a corpse that resurrects from the dead and lives of
the living, by draining humans of their blood, until a it is impaled by a wooden stick or burned. In
ancient history we see the myth of the vampireappearing in burial traditions, showing vast
similarities to the modern day definition of the vampire. We see this appear in various cultures and
regions like the Tibetans, ancient Babylonia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome (Wotherspoon, 6 8).
In The Tibetan Book of the Dead, it is explained by Lama Kazi Dawa that, they believe if a spirit
sees its corpse, it will try to reclaim its body resulting in vampirism. For this reason, it was
common for Tibetans to opt out of an earth burial and chose a fire burial or in modern terms
cremation (Dawa Samdup, 26). In ancient Babylonia, a tablet was found with an inscription that
explains their burial traditions. In this inscription, it states the Babylonians belief that if specific
burial traditions where not followed an evil force will come from their grave (Summers, 220). This
belief could very well be a parallel to the

How Marketing Sector Plays A Business Or Organisation Essay
Marketing sector plays a vital role in a business or organisation. It is a sector that helps to inform
and influence the society at large about the activities made by a business or organisation (Elliot,
2010). Working under the marketing sector would be challenging as it requires marketers to have
competent attitudes and skilful (Elliot, 2010). Although there are several flaws can be identified to
make marketingas a profession such as working long hours and working with an organisation that
does not embrace the marketing concept (Klein, 2004), it is a profession that is meaningful to me.
To work as a marketer, certain tasks require going one place to another to meet different people.
It is a job that not always makes you stay in office. Hence, it is not a monotonous job in
comparison to other jobs that have to do a repetitive work. It is one of the reasons why I chose to
work under the marketing sector in the future. Where, marketers able to meet and socialise with
people that have a different background. Therefore, it helps to expand and broaden my knowledge
on numerous matters. Another reason would be because of exploration and comprehension of
consumer behaviour. By understanding the behaviour of consumers, marketers able to help a
business or organisation to produce a product that is highly demanded by consumers. Thus, it also
expected to result in increase the profits of the company. Last but not least, chose to work under a
marketing sector would be meaningful to me

No On Traveling To Mars
Since the beginning of time, people have been curious, and are always trying to explore. But
now it is 2017, and we have to understand what we should do and what we shouldn t do. People
today have a good idea about the hazards of space travel and know the consequences space travel
can have for people. And after considering Andy Weir s statement regarding travel to Mars, I am
of the opinion that we as a nation should not fund a manned mission to Mars in the near future
because it will be very expensive, we have a larger need to explore places here on Earth, and it
purposes a large danger to the people traveling in space.

Analysis Of How Elizabeth Barrett Browning Let Me Count...
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Elizabeth Barrett Browning said that in her poem
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. to show her love for her unnamed husband. She
shows just from that statement her love for him if she is willing to make a list solely for the ways
she love him. If that is true from the poem, it show that Browning has a problem with man. Maybe
even an obsession to loveher unnamed husband. The poem states that she loves him enough to
make a list, that Browning loves the man from night to day, and lastly she writes that she has
taken her love of God and put towards her love for him. Browning has just written about her
obsession over her husband and how it seems to be a problem with her day to day routine... Show

If she only has candlelight then it should indicate that there is no light outside and that it is the
evening. So her meaning behind the quote is that she loves him from the morning to the evening.
If that isn t enough to sound a bit weird for somebody to love another person everyday. Browning
obviously loved this man a great deal, but was a bit too much?
ВЁI love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath...ВЁ.
The poem is a love poem, but at times Browning has seemed to get carried away with writing
about her love for this man. The quote states the ВЁI love thee with a love I seemed to lose.
With my lost saints.ВЁ The love that she lost is almost certainly the of God. When she says
ВЁlost saintsВЁ a saint is a person that has a likeness are closeness to God. A person with
exceptional holiness. So when she says that ВЁlost saintsВЁ it should mean her lost of love
towards God. So when Browning writes ВЁI love thee with a love I seemed to loseВЁ then it
should mean that she loves him more than God, because it seems like she has replaced her love
towards God and replaced it with her love towards him. Putting the man in her mind at a God like
state or being. So if Browning loves this

Paper Towel Essay
Background Information: Paper towel is a common household cleaning item in almost every
house. They clean up spills and messes. It is important that you have a good quality paper towel
so you can clean up messy spills easily without a hassle. They should stay together and not fall
apart into shreds. Paper towels were invented by a man by the name of Arthur Scott. He lived in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the time he was inventing it. He invented paper towels in 1931.
Arthur Scott invented it because he wanted to prevent the spread of illnesses and germs since
back in the days they use to have 1 cloth in public restroom which everyone would use. While I
was researching on the internet looking at commercials I have found that in other people s tests
is that bounty is the most absorbent paper towel. The fibers in paper towel make them to be
absorbent. The thicker and more woven the paper towel is the more liquid it will absorb and trap.
All paper towels have air pockets and that is where the liquid will go in order to be absorbed. Air
pockets get formed when factories stamp shapes in the paper towel to give it a quilted look.... Show

Upper Extremity Robotic Analysis
As of 2016, approximately 795,000 people have experienced a stroke, with an individual
experiencing a stroke nearly every 40 seconds (Mozaffarian et al., 2016). The American Heart
Association (2013) predicts that the number of individuals who will have a stroke will increase
20% by 2030. The increased prevalence of stroke may lead to serious issues in daily functioning for
individuals; therefore, stroke interventions that address functional impairments are crucial. Upper
extremity robotics is a relatively novel occupational therapy(OT) intervention for stroke

Occupational therapists working with the stroke population use activity analysis and observation
skills to identify and analyze the functional impairments that result in activity limitations (McHugh

functional impairments in the stroke population (Nilsen, Gillen, Arbesman, Lieberman, 2015;

example of an OT assessment that measures participation, one s involvement in a life situation

The testing process was a general meeting with the staff who are qualified to administer the

order. First off, the tests had to be checked in by two people; the principal and the counselor who
is also in charge of testing. The boxes of tests are then delivered to the testing closet where they
are counted and checked in their designated area. This closet is locked all the time and only the
principal has keys to it. The teachers were responsible to come to the testing closet to collect their
materials. The principal was responsible to make sure that staff members sign out their bins and
that all their materials are in the bin.
Reflection
As I reflect on state standardized test, I realize that budgeting extra time is always necessary.
While all PARCC tests have enough time, there was a day where one 8th grade class started late
and had technology issues. This caused a delay in lunches being served to the students. There
was also another issue with the technology in general. Many computers did not load the tests as
there was a JAVA update that needed to take place. There was also the issue with having the tests
spread out over 7 days and the whole school testing window over a month. The vision is to have
the students test on mine net books and I pads. While many schools do go that approach, I find
that we would have to teach our students how to use these tools first prior to the test. This would
take always instructional time. While we have ample computer labs to accommodate 6 classes at
one time, it would cause a hardship on the schedule. I would prefer to

Dust Storms In The 1930 s
During the Dirty Thirties , this is a period of dust storms that damaged the ecology and agriculture
of the United States and Canadian prairies in the 1930 s. Drought came in three waves, 1934,
1936, and 1939 1940. Some regions experienced drought conditions for as many as eight years.
The drought of the 1930 turned soil into dust, in which the destroying winds blew away in
humongous clouds that sometimes blocked the skies. Choking waves of dust named black
blizzards or black rollers traveled across the country. Great dust storms spread from Dust Bowl era.
The drought is the worst it s ever been in U.S. history.

Snow Flower And The Secret Fan Analysis
In the novel Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, by Lisa See, the role of women presented by the
author incorporates historical context of societal value and conventions, reveals the agonizing
subjugation necessary for life, and explores the subtleties of female power in a male centric
world. Through characterization, dialogue, and imagery, the meaning behind the story of two
friends reveals itself. Set in rural China in the early to mid 1800s, historical context plays a major
role in defining the value placed on women by their society. Seen from the beginning, a young girl
in a family acts only as a burden on them by being an extra mouth to feed and less valuable than a
son. Young women at the time were only given value based on who they married, whether they had
sons, and if they followed the conventions set before them. The main character, Lily states that her
mother looked at her as a temporary mouth to feed and a body to dress until I went to my
husband s home (See 12). By setting the stage of the time period, See defines the role of women as
child bearers first, and servants to her husband s family second. Despite protests to that idea in
contemporary times, women then understood their roles as being miserable so that their children
may one day succeed. Pain and convention controlled a womans everyday life, such as, When a girl,
obey your father; when a wife, obey your husband; when a widow, obey your son (See 24). Women
held the lowest status in the social

The Grand Canyon has plenty of volcanic rocks near the bottom and the top. ICR, Institute for
Creative Research, has been involved in a project for years to date these volcanic rocks. this
study has come a long way to show that many of the Grand Canyon strata could have formed
rapidly, and that the erosion of the Canyon by the Colorado River has not been going on for
millions of years. Comparative Essay 3 Compare and Contrast . The Grand Canyon and its age
determined by the young earth and old earth scientists will always be a controversy. Either the
rock dating is the evidence of millions of years, or it is largely the evidence of Noah s Flood. It
can t be both. If we believe what the geologists says that the earth is billions of years old and
shows no sign of a worldwide Flood then that belief contradicts our belief in Noah s Flood. If we
accept God s inspired testimony regarding the Flood, we cannot logically believe in millions of
years. Noah s Flood truly washes away millions of years. The debate about the age of the earth is
ultimately a question of whose word we are going to trust, the all knowing truthful Creator who
has given us His book (the Bible) or scientists who give us their books that contain maybe errors
and therefore are frequently revised. If you firmly trust and carefully read the Bible and become
informed on creationist interpretations of the geological record, you can

The Significance of Australian Youth Culture and Radio
Today the world in which we live in can be seen as a vastly media integrated way of life.
Whether it is film, television or advertising, these forms of media constantly surround us,
influencing and changing the way we live. But what about radio? Some say that radio is dying,
that its use has become useless, that it was only an aid of assistance during the early and mid
1900 s. But the way I see it, I think that radio is more relevant and significant today than it ever
was, especially for the diverse Australian youth cultures. Their lifestyle, education, political views
and social aspects come under a large role due to what they listen to over the radio. So how do
radio stationsmaintain and attract their listeners? What sort of impacts... Show more content on

Australian youths of different ethnicities are searching for more innovative and creative ways of
sourcing and utilizing information in order to exchange their culture and way of life with the wider
community so that they are able to gain a sense of belonging. By broadcasting the news and issues
of a local community and the country of their origin in their own language, it builds and strengthens
new communities as well as establishing confidence and providing the essential atmosphere for the
growing Australian youth.
For many people, community radio broadcasting plays a significant role in their lives especially for
those who come from country or rural areas. As highlighted before, community broadcasting
develops a sense of Australian identity, character and cultural diversity. Statistics show that the 9.5
million people that tune in to community radio each month state that they value their local content
and diverse local music that their community radio produces for them. With regards to the
Australian youth, community radio is of great importance as youths in rural areas are able to keep
up to date with current news as well as their local news as opposed to more urbanised youths
where their news is constantly provided with other forms of media during their everyday lives.

Influenza A Virus Essay
In the human body, there are commensal bacteria serving as part of the normal flora. Various
viruses can interact with these bacteria in order promote their infectivity. Poliovirus can bind with
bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for stabilization to prevent premature RNA release and improve
cell attachment to host cell through the poliovirus receptor. For retroviruses, specifically MMTV
(mouse mammary tumor virus), binding to LPS improve their chances of successful transmission.
MMTV bound LPS get binds to toll like receptor 4, which is a pattern recognition receptor of LPS.

Furthermore, bacteria and virus interactions extend beyond the binding of virus with normal
intestinal microbiota. Through the co infection on influenza A virus and Streptococcus
pneumoniae, it increases chances of mortality. It is important to note that the two are working
together rather than through any direct binding to increase infectivity. Prior infection with
Influenza A virus allows for colonization of S. pneumoniae in the nasopharynx. Sialic acid, a non
reducing sugar, is released from cells and mucus after cleavage by influenza neuraminidase. The
sialic acid serves as a nutrient source for S. pneumoniae for colonization. In addition, a deficient
of the S. pneumoniae s neuraminidase, NanA (neuraminidase A), which is essential for breaking
down of sialic acid to allow for adherence to host cells can decrease colonization. During co
infection, influenza virus can partially restore nasal colonization of NanA deficient pneumococci.
Co infection is also beneficial for the virus since it can decrease specific influenza antibodies.

Characteristics Of Anglo Saxon Heroic Period
The Heroic Era
The Anglo Saxon Period
Old English
In every era, of course there are certain areas that defines the way of living of people on their
specific time period. Some of these are the style of government, the roles of each gender, the
conduct of people, military, language, social and/or economic hierarchy, and more. The Anglo
Saxon Era is no exception. In the Anglo Saxon Period, the most distinguishing areas would be the
Style of Government, the Roles of Men and Women and the Language that they use.
The Anglo Saxon, these are Germans who went to Britain after the fall of the Roman Empire. They
became the masters of the land and the had kept the legacy of the Romans. They brought

Living in this era is the total opposite of the way of living today. In those times, the perspective of
being famous or good is quite different but they would meet up in one specific area, being

people that endangers the safety of your tribe. In this time, bravery, truth, honor, loyalty and duty,
hospitality and perseverance are some of the Anglo Saxon values. Anglo Saxon, as illustrated by the
literary text named Beowulf, the times were barbaric and would require the use of weapons in
order to bravely defend the land. in this time, the concept of hero is basically what most of the

This widespread transmission of a corporation s misconduct will then have significant
ramifications for their reputation and profitability. The case of Shell in Ogoni (Niger Delta,
Nigeria), the Brent Spar in the UK as well as Nike s sweatshop saga in Asia in the 1990s are
good examples of how the social conducts of a corporation can affect their reputation. However,
the tension between CSR concepts and CSR practices remain and this has led some to 3declare
that there is a need for logic and empirical evidence to show the true cost and benefit of CSR for
both business and society (Devinney, 2009, 44). This paper attempts to contribute to the CSR
debate by addressing the following questions: (1) To what extent has the adoption of the CSR
principles and practices resulted in positive outcomes for both oil MNCs and local communities in
the Niger Delta area of Nigeria? (2) What are the implications of the Nigerian case study for CSR
theory from a developing country perspective? Before I begin to address these questions, I will

This story follows one man s quest to uncover the origins and reveal the mysteries of a possible
Holocaust artifact some historians now say never existed: lampshades made of human skin. When
the floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina receded, they left behind a wrecked New Orleans and a
strange looking lamp that an illicit dealer claimed was made from the skinof Jews. This whirlwind

The Pros And Cons Of Birth Control
Since the beginning of mankind, humans have found and used different forms of contraception to
prevent pregnancy. One of the first recorded cases was from 1550 BCE when Egyptians used
honey, acacia leaves, and lint to block sperm from entering the uterus. Since then, birth control has
grown in popularity, uses, and types. 92% of sexually active women have used some form of birth
controland 68% of those women are currently still using it. 67% of women use nonpermanent
contraception methods such as IUDs, the pill, the patch, etc., while 25% of women rely on
sterilization and the other 8% rely on male contraception such as condoms. While some see no issue
with birth control and its uses, others have very strong beliefs against it. The most recorded issues
with birth control are religious affiliations, parental influences, and political views. To begin with,
there are certain religious faiths that have strong beliefs against birth control and its use within its
community. Such religions include different forms of Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and others. An
issue revolving around birth control from a religious standpoint is physicians allowing their

and duloxetine have approved for the treatment of neuropathic pain in diabetic patients by the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Canada, and the European Medicines Agency. (Pop

Also, the tapentadol, which is a novel centrally acting opioid has regulatory approval in the U.S.

The Psychology of Terrorist Group Recruitment
Introduction One of the most complex aspects of counterterrorism (CT) for the intelligence

What issue or issues did this person address in his or her work?
Give specific examples of the methods this person used to make changes articles or books written,

What reforms or changes took place as a result of the individual?
Jane Addams was one of the first people in America who sought to improve the lives of these
desperate poor. In Chicago she founded a settlement house (community center) called Hull House.
Her work toward social improvements in Chicago, coupled with the work of other reformers,
marked the beginning of the Progressive movement in America. Reaching its height in the early
twentieth century, this movement sought to overcome the often dehumanizing effects of rapid
industrialization through a variety of political, economic, and social reforms. Later in her life,
Addams focused her energies on international problems, becoming a dedicated leader in the peace

The Working For A Major Cola Company
We were assigned the ultimate task of finding the phosphoric acid in several rival sodas for this
experiment but to get there it required many steps to be taken in advance. As we were a working
for a major cola company it was crucial that we were aware of how to use the technology and
then more importantly the relationships between all the findings we made through numerous
experiments. Our main source of technology was a spectrophotometer so in order to move
forward in finding anything out about the colas we had to learn how to use this Spec 20. After
looking at the machine and doing research we determined that by using the Spec 20 we would be
able to get values of both absorbance and % Transmittance for a solution. The Spec 20 is able to
give these values by shining a lightbeam through a solution and measuring the intensity before and
after it has passed through the solution.1 After doing research we were able to put the machine to
use in order to get first hand experience of how to use the machine and to get an understanding of
the relationships between results present by the spectrophotometer. Food coloring was the subject
of our first tests with the Spec 20 and our group choose the colors red and blue. Along with the
food coloring we would also be running Potassium Permanganatethrough the machine. By sending
light beams of different wavelengths through the solutions we were able to find the absorbance of
each solution shown in Table 1 as well as the relationship

500 C. E Trade Affected Afro-Eurasia
During the years 500 B.C.E to 1450 C.E trade impacted Afro Eurasia heavily. There are many
things that a person could talk about I am going to pick out the 3 important ones that stand out to
me. The first is religion I think that this had the biggest impact on cities on the different trade
routes. The second is new technologies that it brought. And the third is how these trade routes fell
due to the spread of disease. The 3 main religions are Buddhism, Islam and Christianity. As trade
started to become a trend in cities s did religion as missionaries and merchants would travel in
search for new products they would often be faced with an entire new way of looking at life
through religion and they would bring it back with them to their home

Passing and Human Relationships
Passing and Human Relationships
The Harlem Renaissance was a turning point for many African Americans. A vast amount of
literature was created specifically for this group during this era. For the first time, African
Americans were being told that it was okay to be proud of who they were. This new consciousness
and self awareness was prominent in many works of literature, but several writers began exploring
the darker side of this movement with literature that concentrated on the negative aspects of race
relations in America. Nella Larsen s novel Passing concentrates on this theme with the story of
Clare, a tragic mulatto who passes as a white person. Not only is Passing representative of the plight
of the tragic mulatto, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that she has to deny her identity in order to feel safe eventually leads to her realization
that her life has become a lie. Clare tells Irene that she nearly died of terror the whole nine months
before Margery (her daughter) was born for fear that she might be dark (Larsen 168). Her husband
nicknamed her Nig, because she gets darker each day.
Although Clare s desire to return to the African Americancommunity outwardly seemed merely
whimsical, inwardly, Irene begins to see something groping, and hopeless, and yet so absolutely
determined inside this woman (Larsen 200). Clare will stop at nothing to leave the life she once
desired in order to re enter the African American community. Clare begins to realize that her
desire to return to her African American heritage overshadows any disaster it may cause. In
order to get the things she wants badly enough, she d do anything, hurt anybody, throw anything
away (Larsen 210). In reality, Clare s ultimate loss of soul is realized in the fact that she is
willing to forsake her family, including her daughter, in order to reclaim her racial identity. This,
not her eventual death, becomes Clare s ultimate tragedy. She loses something of her own soul
living in the world of white men. Clare feels that society forces her to abandon her family simply
because part of her is African American. The fact that Clare pretends to be white in order to

The Agreement with Iran over Nuclear Programed Achieve in...
On Nov. 14, 1979, President Carter declared an emergency freezing Iranian Assets in response the

Over 30 years in latter part of September 2013, for the first time in 30 years, the president of the
United States spoke with the president of Iran
An agreement with Iran over its nuclear program was achieved in late November 2013
In the past, the international community has chosen to deal with the Iranian situation by an ever
tightening series of sanctions/actions: for the US it was the Iranian Hostage Crises. President
Carter in November of 1979 declared an emergency and ordered a freeze on all Iranian assets
according to PBS. In November 2011, the United States designated the entire Iranian banking
regime as potentially aiding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was followed by a further decrease to about 700,000 barrels per day by May 2013, according
to industry sources cited by Reuters. This was to deny hard currency that can be siphoned for Iran s
nuclear program
June 2010, the European Union enacted measures similar to those approved by the U.S. Congress
that banned investment and assistance to Iran s energy sector, and a series of other prohibitions
was placed.
It is transparent that this is not a US only action not only has the EU imposed sanctions , the UN
has also imposed sanctions and for the UN to pass a resolution, the UNSC has to act with all five
permanent members needing to agree (United Nations Security Council) this makes the Iranian
program an international concern:
Resolution 1737 (2006); the Security Council today imposed sanctions on Iran, blocking the import
or export of sensitive nuclear material and equipment and freezing the financial assets of persons or
entities supporting its proliferation sensitive nuclear activities or the development of nuclear
weapon delivery systems
Resolution 1747 in March 2007, intensifying the previous sanctions package while also naming
specific officials as targets of the sanctions and adding additional sanctions against Iranian financial
institutions.
Despite sanctions from the US, EU, and the UN, Iran still had the necessary means in material,
capital and engineering to further its nuclear

The Duchess Figurative Language
Through the use of figurative language, imagery, and symbolism Robert Browning is able to
portray his poem about the Duke in the light he wants. The several literary devices used in
figurative language aid in he conversational flow, while the imagery gives you the sense of what
emotion is going at the time, and symbolism showing the underlying use for the subjects
mentioned throughout the poem. The several literary devices most predominantly used in the
poem are assonance and alliteration. For example, the depth and passion of its earnest glance... is
an example of assonance used in the poem as well as And seemed as they would ask me, if they

To make a clearer depiction of the character of the Duke and his opinion and treatment of his late
wife, Browning effectively made use of Renaissance images. The most apparent symbol used is the
portrait of the late Duchess, painted on the wall by artist FrГ Pandolf. The poem only tells the
reader that the painting captures the Duchess bright personality and her love for life a depiction
that has distressed the Duke when her wife was still alive. But the painting itself and how it
came to be tells us more about the Duke s personality. The painting portrayed and captured the
duchess in a nice light, however, the duke chooses who can see it as he stated, none puts by the
curtain I have drawn for you, but I... clearly the duke only wants to show a select few of people
how he wants his last duchess to be remembered. Also, he also mentions a bronze statue of
Neptune towards the end of the poem where he speaks of himself like the god of the sea and as
you read further on the reader will notice the duke likes to present himself as someone in power.
The duke turned things into valuable pieces in order to show he is dominant and powerful, just
like how he personified the painting of his late wife and how he described the bronze

Limitations Of Peribulbar Anesthesia
Discussion With an examination of the acquired results from the study, we can notice that the
quality of globe akinesia in the 10th minute in the rocuronium group was comparatively better, and
86% of the patients underwent the total akinesia; whereas, the percentage of the total akinesia for
the cisatracurium group and the control group in 10th minute was 73% and 66% respectively (p
value 0.444).
Peribulbar anesthesia is widely used for cataract surgery. This method is associated with less
serious complications compared to intravenous anesthesia (8) However, it has the disadvantage of
a slow onset of orbital akinesia (9) and the frequent need for a block supplement. (10) To overcome
these limitations, many adjuvant drugs have been added to the local anesthetic mixture used for the
peribulbar block to increase its efficacy and accelerate its initial rate; their effects, however, were
different. (11, 12, 13)
In retrobulbar approach, a needle is inserted into the intraconal space, a space behind the eye
formed by the extraocular muscles, containing the major nerves of the eye and its adnexa.
Therefore, it may be associated with potentially serious eye damage such as: a scleral
perforation, a stimulation of the oculocardial reflex and an injection of an anesthetic in the
perioptic meningeal space. However, this approach may have the advantage of rapid onset of
analgesia and akinesia with the use of relatively smaller volumes of anesthetic. (14) (15) In
addition to commonly observed conjunctival edema, a higher initial IOP is accompanied by the
higher volume of the anesthetic agent (16), also the need for additional injection is higher for
peribulbar block compared to retrobulbar block (14).
Neuromuscular blockers have been used as adjuvants for many trials. Reah et al. added a dose of
0.5 mg vecuronium to a mixture of lidocaine and bupivacaine with 15 IU / mL hyaluronidase. (6)
In the study of kucukyavuz et al. Atracurium 5 mg was added to the same anesthetic mixture
without hyaluronidase. (5) The siege of Peribulbar was carried out in these two studies using a
technique of 2 injections (Infertembporal and medial orbital). Y.Aissaouit et al. added 0.06 mg / kg
of rocuronium to the anesthetic mixture,

The Causes Of Ethnic Diversity In The United Kingdom
Ethnic Diversity in United Kingdom Immigrants, are they really the bad people or are you? Some
say immigrants affected the ethnic diversity. Culture, language, and religion are different in many
ethnic groups, it s amazing on how many different things you can learn. Is it vital that the migration
that happened during the late 19th century has led to an effect amongst the ethnic diversity in the
United Kingdom? In this paper internet sources contained many more accurate information. Books
talked very little about ethnic diversity in United Kingdom. In addition to talking about the 19th
century immigrant the internet had many sources that talked about it. Books contained information
but very information about each ethnic group. Using the internet went into more details about each
ethnic group. It was easier finding more information on the internet than the books. Finding
information in books never change but on the internet the information can be updated. These
sources contained information about the British Asians,Africans,White European,Mexicans, and
immigrants. Using the internet over books gather more information about ethnic groups and
immigrants.
Before we begin, it is important to understand a few key terms related to our studies: ethnic
diversity, ethnic groups, and cultural diversity. Ethnic diversity can mean different things in
varying contexts. It means races from around the world just different in language and skin tone.

An Analysis of the Australian Curriculum
Introduction
With the introduction of the Australian National Curriculum into all education systems across the
country, many questions and debates have occurred in reference to its effectiveness. From the often
perceived conflicting curriculum definitions to the unfortunate failures of past attempts of
curriculum implementation, every member of the community has an opinion on this significant
shift in the way Australia thinks of its children s education (Rudd, 2007). The Australian Curriculum
however, has attempted to provide answers to these misgivings and societal concern, from an easy
to use website interface, transparent developmental process and state/ territory inclusion of
common educational individualities. The Australian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Australian political structure and the level of authority the federal government has over state
/territory and independent organisations over educational policy, may have been a contributing
factor for this lack of committed development and intended eventual nationwide implementation
(Marsh, 2010). Learning from previous governments attempts implementing a national curriculum,
the federal government from 2009, enacted a series of shaping reforms, with the aim of successfully
gaining support and legal authority over the implementation of a national curriculum (Marsh, 2010).
The request for state/territory appointed representatives, statements of open consultation in
development, through to what Brady and Kennedy (2010) refer to as hard policy , including the
establishment of ACARA as a statutory body over all manner of educational policy and the linking
of funding repercussions to the implementation of the Australian Curriculum (Schools Assistance
Bill, National Education Agreement) has led to all educational organisations agreeing to the use of
the impending curriculum documents.
Brady and Kennedy (2010) state that no single form of curriculum model is commonly used by
developers, therefore using specific components of different models and designing a process that
works for the organisation or individuals intent. As such the Australian Curriculum developers

Minerva was a heroine because she was the bravest sister. Minerva is hearing

Essay about High Stakes Testing
High Stakes Testing
In 1997, President Bill Clinton stated that the United States needed, a national crusade for education
standards not federal government standards, but national standards, representing what all our
students must know to succeed in the knowledge economy of the twenty first century (http:/
/books.nap.edu/books/0309062802/html/13.html). The way to succeed in this journey is through
standardized testing that results in consequences for teachers and students.
Throughout this paper, I will be discussing how important high stakes testing is to our country.
First, I will show how these tests prevent students from moving on to the next grade level or

Out of 91,000 students tested overall, almost 26,000 failed. After summer school, 15 percent, 13
percent, and 8 percent of students were retained at the three grade levels (Chicago Public Schools,
1998a)(http://books.nap.edu/books/0309062802/html/116.html).
High stakes testing also improves students achievement. Eugene Watts, Ohio s State Senator,
discusses a new exam that will be required for high school graduation starting in September of
2004. It is a tribute to the process we have established that Ohio was one of only three states to
receive a grade of A by the Fordman Foundation in its appraisal of math standards in 1998. Ohio s
model math standards also have the highest rating by the American Federation of Teachers and a
grade of B+ for the level of rigor in a review of state standards in 1998 by the Council of Basic
Education. Before proficiency testing, Ohio schools were graduating students with second grade
math skills and fourth grade reading levels (http://www.enc.org/topics/ assessment/testing
/document.shtm?input=FOC 001574 index). The students of Ohio were given a challenge, and
they not only lived up to the standards, they surpassed them! This is the kind of attitude all students
need to have towards school, and high stakes testing is just the incentive they need. The AIMS test
in Arizona will be required to graduate in the year 2008, and the Arizona Department of Education

This was most commonly based on negligence of the commandment broken and was offered on

  • 2. Orca whales have been in difficult circumstances ever... Orca whales have been in difficult circumstances ever since the first orca was captured in 1961. The first orca captured lived two days in captivity then died and the reported cause of dead was pneumonia. Many things come to mind when people think an orca is in captivity. Many people tend to believe they are being treated, they will enjoy life more, and they will live longer due to the fact they are receiving food and care. These statements are told to spectators at seaworld, marinelandand many other water parks around the globe. The facts disagree with these statements. Orca are very friendly animals, there have been no recorded attacks of orcas hurting any human being in the wild. Most of them will come up to fishers boats and be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most trainers received their job just walking in and applying. (Pg1) Another sad reason that orca s may show aggression is most parks separate there baby s from the mother that way they can ship them to other locations for visitors. Kalina was the first shamu born in captivity. Since most whales live together in pods for all their life trainers thought Kalina and her mother Katina would live together. Although at just age four management of Sea World decided that Kalina was too much of a distraction when her mother was performing in shows. They relocated baby Kalina to another park separating the baby from her mother. That same night her mother made a very high pitched long distance call trying to find her daughter. Most scientists that work with whales say they have never heard anything like it. Katina clearly was sad because her baby was taken from her. SeaWorld chose to ignore this though because it was not profitable if the baby where to stay with her mother. Orcas lives are decreased significantly in captivity. Today over one hundred fifty eight orcas have lived in captivity. Two thirds of the orcas did not live past ten years (Pg1). The average life span for an orca s have only increased a small bit since the nineteen sixties but still the average life span is still very low. The current average life span for an orca is nine years. The average lifespan in the wild for female ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The National Security Act Of 1947 Even though President Truman implemented the Executive Order 9835 in order to ensure the attainment of national security, it failed to do so in a legal manner. Any national intelligence program such as the HUAC could not have legally used Truman s loyalty program in order to attain national security. The National Security Act of 1947states that the methods of investigation utilized by national intelligence programs should be free of political considerations ( National Security Act of 1947, 12). Executive Order 9835shows how the HUAC s methods of investigation failed to be independent of political considerations. As a broken loyalty program, Truman s Executive Order was very opinionated. Any individual or organization deemed disloyal by the government without any evidence of intending to subvert would be subject to further investigations done by congressional investigation committees and other national intelligence programs. Those conjectured as political leftists or fascists fell victim to loyalty screening despite not truly being of an insubordinate nature. In this way, the broken system of loyalty determination created by Executive Order 9835 cannot be justified through the attainment of national security since the Executive Order failed to be independent of political opinions. Consequently, the HUAC failed to comply with the official mandates of the National Security Act since its methods of investigation were politically biased. In accordance with Truman s ... • 4. Buzz Lightyear What did Woody say to Buzz Lightyear? A lot. There were three movies! Toy Story being Pixar s first feature film in 1995, was nominated for awards by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. In 1979 Pixar Animation Studios was founded as Graphics Group. It was originally the computer division of Lucasfilm, and became its own corporation in 1986 with funding from Apple cofounder Steve Jobs. People tend to think of creativity as a mysterious solo act, and they typically reduce products to a single idea. Creativity must be present at every level of an organization. In filmmaking and other kinds of complex product development, creativity involves a large number of people from different limitations working effectively together to solve... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the merging, Disney had a leader that was ineffective and it showed in the work they produced. I believe Catmull and Lasseter follow the House s Path Goal theory of leadership. The basis of path goal is that effective leaders motivate subordinates to achieve goals by 1: Clearly identifying the outcomes that subordinates are trying to obtain from the workplace. In the Disney Pixar aspect, the main goal of everyone is to come up with new innovated film ideas that have never been done before. Always trying to push the envelope. This in an interesting job assignment, very challenging this day and age because everything is just getting bigger and bigger. 2: Rewarding subordinates with these outcomes for high performance and the attainment of work goals. I would think there would be compensation for producing a box office hit. There is a shared interest in everyone s success. They really are a team, the success of a movie counts on each and every person involved. And 3: Clarifying for subordinates the paths leading to the attainment of work goals. To remove any obstacles, the company created an environment where they remove the power structure. Everyone s notes are equal. Everyone is encouraged to share ideas freely and honest feedback is given. This allows employees to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Police Enforcement Is An Evolving Agency Essay Law enforcement has been an evolving agency just as many fields in the US. Most agencies have the same goal, that is to prevent crime, investigate crime and apprehend criminals, maintain order, and provide other miscellaneous services. The diversity in American cities is what makes law enforcement unique, it has a huge impact and role as to how agencies operate with the citizens that live in those communities. In the US policedepartments are more likely to use one of three or a combination of 3 police strategies: community policing, problem oriented policing and zero tolerance policing. With that being said all of these serve a purpose and have negative and positives contributing effect onto communities. Through my experience and knowledge I have learned from policing I would utilize a combination of problem oriented policing and community policing if I were chief of police of a police department. Although both styles of policing have their own goals and structures, problem oriented policing seems to tie in with community policing. Utilizing these two styles would also help to bridge the gap between the community and the police. Community policing is a model of policing that stresses a two way working relationship between the community and the police, in which the police become more integrated into the local community and citizens assume an active role in crime control and prevention, as stated in the book The Police in America. This concept of policing style involves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ford made it farther with the help of friends, Thomas Edison who gave Ford a job at his plant. Due to all of the things that Ford did, he impacted the car industry forever. The support in Ford s early life helped him get to the inventor he was. Ford s parents supported him in his inventing, they gave him a little work space in a barn for him to work on his invention. Before leaving Edison s plant in 1898 Ford got his first patent on the carburetor. The quadricycle is what started Fords motor journey in creating Ford Motors. The Detroit Motor Company was started in 1899 by Ford, It would eventually be called Ford Motors. Before the Model T was perfected made Model N, S, and R, none of them were as good as the Model T. Ford had investors that loved the Model T and its success. Ford introduced the Model T, the first car to be affordable for most Americans, in October 1908 and continued its construction until 1927. The Model T was able to be produced for so long because of its investors, Charles Edgar, J.Frank Duryea, Elwood Haynes, and Hiram Percy Maxim. In his case, the term World is flat refers to the leveling of the playing field between the economic dynamics of the West and the rising economic powers of India and China. Friedman s idea is that because of huge improvements in technological advances, the society is becoming more and more exceptional. He didn t to take into consideration the realities concerning the fact that in society, for such a system to work with any kind of sustainability it needs to create recovery to the ones that have been outsourced. Friedman s idea is good and it mentioned that some of our society s well successful enterprise are the ones that are most prepared to change but some of them are still yet to invent or innovate anything, instead they are relying on finding new means to produce existing products in a cheaper and faster way than their competitors, therefore raising an environment that s not very conducive. How Does Euclid Influence Greek Culture Dunham begins his discussion in chapter 2 by noting the large growth in size and influence Greek culture underwent during the time of figures such as Plato and Eudoxus. Greece was experiencing a golden age for many intellectual areas of study, including mathematics. Initially, Dunham mentions how physical areas were created for intellectual advancement and study, and later moves into discussing how these institutions influenced important mathematicians, like Euclid, who provided the first true proofs as we might see them written today, vocabulary notwithstanding. The primary topic discussed in the chapter revolves around the work of Euclid. Euclid is attributed with the creation of the Elements, which is a collection of mathematical works depicting... These propositions set the stage for the great theorem of chapter 2 Euclid s proof of the Pythagorean Theorem. This proof is important because, until this point in history, a formal written explanation and proof was not existent despite its wide acceptance as truth. Proposition I.47 states, In right angled triangles, the square on the side subtending the right angle is equal to the squares on the sides containing the right angle. Euclid tackled the great proof by using geometry to describe the equation, c^2= a^2+b^2, as seen in Figure 4. The ultimate goal is to show that the area covered by the two smaller squares sum up to the area of the third square. Initially, we pose that triangle ABC is right by design. Then, by proposition I.14, GAC must be a straight line. By examining the О”ABD and О”FBC, we see that they have sides of (AB) М…=(FD) М… and (BD) М…=(BC) М… since they are sides of squares. Next, since angle в€ABD=right angle+в€ABC and в€FBC=right angle+в€FBA. Using postulate I.4 and common notion 2 we know в€ ABD=в€ FBC. Consequently, Euclid could now show that ∆ABD=∆FBC by the side angle side triangle congruence. Now Euclid applied his postulate I.41 to relate the area of the squares, to the area of a triangle that shares the same base. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anne and Helen s characters, points of view, and situation show the constant struggle of the desire for more knowledge even though the odds are against her. The characters of Anne and Helen both offer different elements to this story. In the story and movie, Helen is portrayed as lost in her younger years. She does not know right from wrong; all she knows is happiness and anger. The movie shows a scene that involves Helen walking around taking food off of her family members plates. The family does nothing to stop Helen. They allow her to take whatever she wants so that they can continue in conversation. This is appalling to Helen s teacher, Anne Sullivan. When Helen tries to take something off of her plate she reacts and cannot believe the family allows this. This scene displays how Helen s life has been thus far. It shows that because of her condition, her family never made her mind any manners. This led to Helen knowing no difference between right and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Superstitious And Mythical Figure Of The Vampire The superstitious and mythical figure of the vampire has been seen throughout all era s off history. It is a figure of mythology that is transcendent in an abundance of cultures and regions. The most significant aspect of the vampire is its ability to redefine itself throughout history and continued to stay relevant to society. The most modern and commonly known definition of vampires is a preternatural being know to be a corpse that resurrects from the dead and lives of the living, by draining humans of their blood, until a it is impaled by a wooden stick or burned. In ancient history we see the myth of the vampireappearing in burial traditions, showing vast similarities to the modern day definition of the vampire. We see this appear in various cultures and regions like the Tibetans, ancient Babylonia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome (Wotherspoon, 6 8). In The Tibetan Book of the Dead, it is explained by Lama Kazi Dawa that, they believe if a spirit sees its corpse, it will try to reclaim its body resulting in vampirism. For this reason, it was common for Tibetans to opt out of an earth burial and chose a fire burial or in modern terms cremation (Dawa Samdup, 26). In ancient Babylonia, a tablet was found with an inscription that explains their burial traditions. In this inscription, it states the Babylonians belief that if specific burial traditions where not followed an evil force will come from their grave (Summers, 220). This belief could very well be a parallel to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a sector that helps to inform and influence the society at large about the activities made by a business or organisation (Elliot, 2010). To work as a marketer, certain tasks require going one place to another to meet different people. It is a job that not always makes you stay in office. Let me count the ways. to show her love for her unnamed husband. She shows just from that statement her love for him if she is willing to make a list solely for the ways she love him. If that is true from the poem, it show that Browning has a problem with man. Maybe even an obsession to loveher unnamed husband. The poem states that she loves him enough to make a list, that Browning loves the man from night to day, and lastly she writes that she has taken her love of God and put towards her love for him. ВЁI love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath...ВЁ. The poem is a love poem, but at times Browning has seemed to get carried away with writing about her love for this man. The quote states the ВЁI love thee with a love I seemed to lose. • 18. Reflection On PARCC Test The testing process was a general meeting with the staff who are qualified to administer the PARCC exam. The principal ran through a state provided PowerPoint and provided the schedule that works well for the school. The principal explained the security measures as well as who to contact in case of emergencies or problems. There was also another meeting for the staff that could not attend the original. All staff members who were involved with PARCC testing had to sign a paper acknowledging that they attended the training. I was able to work with the secretary and principal to coordinate testing times. I also served as a testadministrator and shadowed the principal. In regards to the NJ ASK, there were multiple security components that had to be in order. First off, the tests had to be checked in by two people; the principal and the counselor who is also in charge of testing. The boxes of tests are then delivered to the testing closet where they are counted and checked in their designated area. This closet is locked all the time and only the principal has keys to it. The teachers were responsible to come to the testing closet to collect their materials. The principal was responsible to make sure that staff members sign out their bins and that all their materials are in the bin. Reflection As I reflect on state standardized test, I realize that budgeting extra time is always necessary. While all PARCC tests have enough time, there was a day where one 8th grade class started late and had technology issues. This caused a delay in lunches being served to the students. There was also another issue with the technology in general. Many computers did not load the tests as there was a JAVA update that needed to take place. There was also the issue with having the tests spread out over 7 days and the whole school testing window over a month. The vision is to have the students test on mine net books and I pads. While many schools do go that approach, I find that we would have to teach our students how to use these tools first prior to the test. This would take always instructional time. While we have ample computer labs to accommodate 6 classes at one time, it would cause a hardship on the schedule. I would prefer to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Snow Flower And The Secret Fan Analysis In the novel Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, by Lisa See, the role of women presented by the author incorporates historical context of societal value and conventions, reveals the agonizing subjugation necessary for life, and explores the subtleties of female power in a male centric world. Through characterization, dialogue, and imagery, the meaning behind the story of two friends reveals itself. Set in rural China in the early to mid 1800s, historical context plays a major role in defining the value placed on women by their society. Seen from the beginning, a young girl in a family acts only as a burden on them by being an extra mouth to feed and less valuable than a son. Young women at the time were only given value based on who they married, whether they had sons, and if they followed the conventions set before them. The main character, Lily states that her mother looked at her as a temporary mouth to feed and a body to dress until I went to my husband s home (See 12). By setting the stage of the time period, See defines the role of women as child bearers first, and servants to her husband s family second. Despite protests to that idea in contemporary times, women then understood their roles as being miserable so that their children may one day succeed. Pain and convention controlled a womans everyday life, such as, When a girl, obey your father; when a wife, obey your husband; when a widow, obey your son (See 24). When the floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina receded, they left behind a wrecked New Orleans and a strange looking lamp that an illicit dealer claimed was made from the skinof Jews. This whirlwind journey takes us from Chicago to Buchenwald, from CSI type labs to the remains of the pathology department where the SS conducted medical experiments on inmates. Before journey s end, they go back in time to meet the most notorious Nazi villainess of all: Ilse Koch, the so called Bitch of Buchenwald. I must say I never saw something that was put together so flawlessly. Seeing that most people are attracted to the holocaust for some odd reason, I am sure I am not the only one who was on the edge of my seat every second of the video. As the video began the speaker wasted little to no time explaining that his goal was to discover whether the lamp that he received from a friend was actually made of human origin. Since then, birth control has grown in popularity, uses, and types. 92% of sexually active women have used some form of birth controland 68% of those women are currently still using it. 67% of women use nonpermanent contraception methods such as IUDs, the pill, the patch, etc., while 25% of women rely on sterilization and the other 8% rely on male contraception such as condoms. The most recorded issues with birth control are religious affiliations, parental influences, and political views. To begin with, there are certain religious faiths that have strong beliefs against birth control and its use within its community. The Working For A Major Cola Company We were assigned the ultimate task of finding the phosphoric acid in several rival sodas for this experiment but to get there it required many steps to be taken in advance. As we were a working for a major cola company it was crucial that we were aware of how to use the technology and then more importantly the relationships between all the findings we made through numerous experiments. Our main source of technology was a spectrophotometer so in order to move forward in finding anything out about the colas we had to learn how to use this Spec 20. After looking at the machine and doing research we determined that by using the Spec 20 we would be able to get values of both absorbance and % Transmittance for a solution. The Spec 20 is able to give these values by shining a lightbeam through a solution and measuring the intensity before and after it has passed through the solution.1 After doing research we were able to put the machine to use in order to get first hand experience of how to use the machine and to get an understanding of the relationships between results present by the spectrophotometer. Food coloring was the subject of our first tests with the Spec 20 and our group choose the colors red and blue. Limitations Of Peribulbar Anesthesia Discussion With an examination of the acquired results from the study, we can notice that the quality of globe akinesia in the 10th minute in the rocuronium group was comparatively better, and 86% of the patients underwent the total akinesia; whereas, the percentage of the total akinesia for the cisatracurium group and the control group in 10th minute was 73% and 66% respectively (p value 0.444). Peribulbar anesthesia is widely used for cataract surgery. This method is associated with less serious complications compared to intravenous anesthesia (8) However, it has the disadvantage of a slow onset of orbital akinesia (9) and the frequent need for a block supplement. (10) To overcome these limitations, many adjuvant drugs have been added to the local anesthetic mixture used for the peribulbar block to increase its efficacy and accelerate its initial rate; their effects, however, were different. (11, 12, 13) In retrobulbar approach, a needle is inserted into the intraconal space, a space behind the eye formed by the extraocular muscles, containing the major nerves of the eye and its adnexa. Therefore, it may be associated with potentially serious eye damage such as: a scleral perforation, a stimulation of the oculocardial reflex and an injection of an anesthetic in the perioptic meningeal space. However, this approach may have the advantage of rapid onset of analgesia and akinesia with the use of relatively smaller volumes of anesthetic. (14) (15) In addition to commonly observed conjunctival edema, a higher initial IOP is accompanied by the higher volume of the anesthetic agent (16), also the need for additional injection is higher for peribulbar block compared to retrobulbar block (14). Neuromuscular blockers have been used as adjuvants for many trials. Reah et al. added a dose of 0.5 mg vecuronium to a mixture of lidocaine and bupivacaine with 15 IU / mL hyaluronidase. (6) In the study of kucukyavuz et al. Atracurium 5 mg was added to the same anesthetic mixture without hyaluronidase. Essay about High Stakes Testing High Stakes Testing In 1997, President Bill Clinton stated that the United States needed, a national crusade for education standards not federal government standards, but national standards, representing what all our students must know to succeed in the knowledge economy of the twenty first century (http:/ /books.nap.edu/books/0309062802/html/13.html). Before proficiency testing, Ohio schools were graduating students with second grade math skills and fourth grade reading levels (http://www.enc.org/topics/ assessment/testing /document.shtm?input=FOC 001574 index). The students of Ohio were given a challenge, and they not only lived up to the standards, they surpassed them! This is the kind of attitude all students need to have towards school, and high stakes testing is just the incentive they need.
